We were visiting a friend in West Hampstead and decided to introduce her to Vietnamese food when we saw Ladudu. She absolutely loved her first Vietnamese dining experience and as Americans who are much more exposed to Vietnamese fare we loved the quality of everything that we tried that included:1. Summer rolls2. Vietnamese pancakes3. A typical vermicelli dish4. A hearty Hue soupWe would return here in a heartbeat. (It is smallish and does fill up rapidly -- we also felt that the two servers were really stretched -- but they were ever polite and responsive.)

Was a bit nervous as we hadn't eaten Vietnamese food before. Should not have worried as the staff were very helpful and took us through the menu. When the food arrived it was vibrant , full of flavour and very very tasty. Portion sizes were more than adequate. There is a short but fun cocktail list and a choice of three Vietnamese beers. All in all it was a most enjoyable experience. The place was very busy for a Thursday night in November so booking is advised. Looking forward to our next vist.

The only good thing about our visit here was the staff. Incredibly friendly and attentive. However, the food was bland and not worth the money. I found 2 hairs in my food. Tried to ignore the first one as was so hungry but after finding a second I was put right off! The staff took it off the bill which is good. Really enjoyed our visit last Saturday. Food was really tasty and generous portions. Our server was lovely but somehow one meal from every course got delayed/forgotten. That said the delays were minimal and they were very helpful and vegan friendly too. None of us had ever had such wonderfully chunky Spring rolls. We'd go back just for them. Since I moved to West Hampstead, whenever I had craving for some Viet noodles soup or felt too lazy to cook, I would pop by here to get some pho or other dishes with rice or even order delivery.I cant say they have been consistence with quality of the food or the service have always been great but I'm not the type to make a fuss about small details. Yet today, for the first time I dropped in for lunch, I had the worse experience I had ever experienced in a restaurant (putting it shortly: I as many other Londoners, had been to many many restaurants in the world!).The restaurant was quiet, there were 2 tables occupy at the time I walked in. I took my seat, the waitress came over to give me the menu. Then she came back to tell me about the 'special' they have for lunch with discount prices of course. Which to be honest, I'm never interested in most special menu in any restaurants anyway. So the waitress told me about their special yet no question whether I have decided on my order yet, I had to stop her before she left by asking if I can order my drink - which in any restaurant, that's the point where most waiters will ask whether their seated customers want a drink first or any appertisers. She left to get the drink. Came back with my drink and left again, no question again about whether I'm ready to order - to this point I have been seated for a bit and it's around 2pm, shouldnt I get some food by now? I waited but the manager was busy chatting with another table as well and there were just 2 of them servicing altogether. Until the waitress came by to get some newspaper along where I sat, I managed to get her attention with a question: would you like anything else? - I was suprised by that question since I thought, I came in a restaurant for food, not just for a drink which I can just go to a cafe for that - I ordered my food anyway which were: a steam rice, a stir-fry choi-sum in garlic sauce with beef extra if they can (which they have another choice of oyster sauce with exact same type of vegie) and a bowl of hot and sour soup with vegie, at this point she said yes and scribbled down, I then thought she got what I meant as in I wanted it as a soup only so I added: I want all the dishes came together, not the soup as a starter first because you get to order the soup by itself as a starter or you can have the soup with rice noodles as a main. And she just acted like she totally get what I meant. Please bear with me here since the main part is not here yet.She came back with the order paper saying they dont do beef with the stir-fry, so I asked her if I can get the soup with prawn instead and the stir-fry of choi-sum (to my defence I really did told her twice the word: choi-sum) and the rice. The food came, the stir-fry and the soup in a big bowl. I noticed that I realised she mistaken what I order as in a main. I stopped her even before the bowl touched the table, telling her: I wanted the soup only, not the one with noodles, she looked at me puzzle, I had to tell her again that: this one has noodles at the bottom, I only ordered the soup. She said she'll get it fix and left with the soup. I thought that was just a misunderstanding. Then I looked at the stir-fry dish, I realised it wasnt the vegetable I asked for but just some green beans and bean-sprouts. Before I can turn to find the waitress, the manager came and asked me: "what was the problem?" with a very unhappy face and stern attitude when she speak.I was caught of guard since I didnt expect I was making "a problem" when all I did was telling the waitress that she's mistaken my order before I even touched any food.So I told the manager that I asked for the soup only, I even told the waitress that I wanted all the dishes came out together which made me think she knows that I didnt want the soup came out as a starter before all other food. To this point, the manager asked me: did you tell her that you wanted it as a starter or as a main? - to be honest, if you're in any kind of service, you dont question your customer like that as if your customer didnt know what they want or worse, their English was too bad to read the menu to your staff.I told her: she didnt even ask me whether I want it in which way, so when I told her I wanted all the dishes together, she said yes, I thought she knows what I wanted.By now, the attitude of the manager had really put me off, the way she didnt talk to her untrained staff first, the way she came over to ask me about 'the problem' which I expect the waitress can simply go and change the order with the kitchen and deal with it herself - not having the manager had to come and ask the paying customer who hasnt even touch any food or sending it back because of any other reason. And her attitude made me felt as if she saw me as I was there trying to make trouble, not having a simple quiet lunch after my busy week. After she got what she didnt understand about me sending the dish back, she just left, saying nothing as: sorry about the misunderstanding on the order or apology for her staff's mistake; I was still in shock to even bother to tell her about the yet another-mistaken-stir-fry order. On top to all of that, the waitress after brought the soup back, left cutlery for the food, didnt even ask me if there's anything else I need or have no basic skill to even brought over a spare bowl for me to eat since all 3 dishes I ordered are a dish of stir-fry, a tiny bowl pile high up with rice or a starter bowl full of soup, I honestly didnt know how they expected me to eat. Nowhere serving any kind of Oriental food would be happy leaving their customer a table with just food and cutlery but no eating bowl or plate - it's a really basic culture knowledge. After few minutes gathered myself of the treatment I get as a paying customer, I realised the waitress has no clue about the menu nor the food she is actually serving (by not knowing about the soup options, the name of the vegetables) hence she got my order wrong and even presumed that I ordered the 'special stir-fry she earlier advertised with me when I actually wanted a totally different one. And as you are reading this, I can confidently say that even though I am an Oriental girl but my English speaking or writing is way better than even some original born and bred English people (no offence to anyone please).Even though I was so upset yet I never let anyone ruin my beautiful afternoon when the sun was shining outside, I decided to have the food anyway and not going to ever order anymore delivery service or come in to eat here again. I'm writing this to express my disappointment on such poor level of service. The food overall is okay most the time and I always tell people about the restaurant if they ask me of a place to eat Vietnamese food around the area but to experience such attitude in a restaurant when all I wanted was to have a simple nice lunch is horrid. I hope the management can take this in (if they are as they said: welcome any comment to improve their service) and improve their service skill. And to have over 100 reviews yet 20% of those are bad ones on their service, I really think they should improve their service; maybe they dont care because they still get customers come in but eventually, bad reviews go around faster than good ones, hope it wont come to that. All the best.

We've visited here on two occasions for a reasonable snack at Sunday lunchtime and each time came away very content. This time, the vegetarian spring rolls had a delicate flavour and each of our soups, hers veggy and mine chicken were substantial and filling with a range of herb and spices apparent. Desert selection is tiny, as normal in asian restaurants, but I suggest you try the tapioca and cocomat milk desert (little complain on my side that they added nuts to it, which I've never seen as an ingredient in Vietnam ). I forget what else we ordered but it was an interesting experience.Service could have been a bit better. Had to do a bit of arm waving a couple of times as the staff was not too attentive towards us. It got reflected in the tip.It was our first go at Vietnamese food. I do not know how authentic it is but as it is Asian, I expected that lots of more trouble would go in preparing it as mostly all Asian cuisines take lots of preparation, which fills the food with aroma and spices.Location of the restaurant is good, within walking distance of the underground, the overground and the Thames link stations. And on a Saturday night, it does get busy. We had to reserve the seats as we were a party of 6.The price was a bit higher than what we had expected. I think, it is a bit overpriced..

The real fault is what mattered. The food. The summer rolls held very little flavour, and hardly any herbs, just lettuce. Ok the spring rolls were reasonable, if very oily. Feeling a bit disappointed we looked forward to our mains ever hopeful.. Sadly both were similarly disappointing. Took my wife here for dinner recently. There was a reasonable crowd although the atmosphere wasn't great. Service was slow and apart from one young lady it was quite rude. But that is not the real problem with this place. I can honestly say the food was absolutely dreadful. I've eaten Vietnamese food many times, in London and abroad and this was so bad neither of us could finish any of our courses. We were both ill afterwards, my wife more so than me as I had eaten very little of my main course. When the waitress saw my more or less untouched main course she asked if everything was ok. I replied that the food was dreadful and I couldn't eat it. They gave me a bill for the full amount and I refused to pay for my main course. This resulted in some serious attitude from a woman I presume was the manager. After a few minutes of trying to embarrass me in front of other diners, implying that I had no idea what Vietnamese food tasted like and I hadn't used enough "sauce" on my starter she reluctantly agreed to take the cost of my main off the bill. There are a lot of really good restaurants in NW6, Banana Tree just up the road being one example. One word sums up this place for me... AVOID!

I ordered a green papaya salad that came with pork belly and prawns. It was great but I'm not a fan of the smelly fermented tofu sauce they use on the dish. Also I got a spicy beef noodle soup. I found the beef inedible and the instant noodles were not nice, but the liquid soup itself was good. In the end I tested a shot of the vietnamese coffee beans and they were distinctively stale with a medicine woody taste! Staff were nice.

Called in here late on a Sunday afternoon and found it clean, comfortable & the service was attentive and friendly. The price was reasonable as was the food but that's as far as it goes. It's the first time I've eaten Vietnamese and on this showing I'd probably resort to my Thai default setting - but people tell me that Vietnamese food is so fragrant and 3 dimensional. So I will try again but I wont make a detour here. It's OK really, but that's where it finished. Shame really.

We popped in for lunch when swapping lines. This was a most enjoyable dining experience, we shared a starter of calamari & king prawn with a chilly and fish dip. This was served with pickled carrot & onion .... Very very tasty Then we had two noodle dishes one beef and one chicken, that were equally tasty washed down with a crisp white wine. Very nice and I would recommend.

Wanted a change from the local good quality Chinese or Indian restaurants so thought we would give this one a try. Really glad that we did. The Vietnamese spring rolls were really tasty. We had two main courses plus egg fried rice but the main courses were so generous that we ended up saving the rice. Would really recommend the lemongrass stir fried chicken and the beef hot pot. They were each for two people and were very good value and quality.

This is a true gem in the heart of NW London (West Hampstead)!! Amazing flavours all round the menu - I would highly recommend the following: squid w/chilli&garlic, papaya salad, summer rolls and DON'T MISS the beef noodle soup with an amazing broth including ingredients such as star anise, cinammon, etc. Might look a bit pricey but trust me the quantity is very well thought out, you can even share. The ladies on the welcoming side are lovely and they know the menu by heart and have great knowledge of sauces etc.Winner!!!! for friends hanging out, they do do big tables, or with your loved one!!!!! make sure you call to see availability, they are always busy (and they should be) !!

We stumbled upon this place after searching high and low around Finchley Road for a decent place to eat. I was initially dubious, but the menu had a fair few veggie options, so I thought I would give it a go.Turned out to be the right choice. They had 10 minutes of happy hour left, so we quickly ordered some red wine, which was lovely. The waiter was friendly, and our food came really quickly, considering it was quite busy. The food was tasty, and the portion was pretty generous. Had the veggie Pho, a good choice it turned out. Will definitely return soon!

I wanted to go back to this restaurant for a while because the first time I went I was very impressed, but sadly not this time. My friend and I had summer rolls and spring roll to share. The prawn and pork Summer Rolls didn’t rock my boat where the filling consisted of 90% iceberg lettuce! The Vietnamese Spring Rolls had a better flavour all around. The Special Pork chop rice that my friend had was very tasty while the marinated chicken with vermicelli rice noodle and other bits were 3 nano-skewers of chicken mainly skin and fat. I complained there and there and they apologised saying that was the wrong dish and I got another one which looked more like a chicken escalope which I don’t think it was what I ordered anyway the flavour was good and I got on with it. Overall we were quite disappointed especially for value for money. I have been to Pho in Soho which is a chain and to be honest the food quality was better and quite a bit cheaper if I had to compare the two. Next time that I feel like having Vietnamese food it is very likely I will go back to Pho or look for some other independent ones.

Very nice place, I love meat and they do it great there, but they also cater so perfectly for vegan/vegetarian people too all my friends are so when I chose it it was perfect we went a couple of weeks ago (November) I went there once before with the boy for my Graduation celebration lunch in (July) and we realised we have a restaurant for life just round the corner from where we live! Good for both couples and friends but I give the edge to couples as the lighting is a little romantic. Also the cocktails just try one I dare you! My fav's are the Collins bunch :-D

This place has really lovely original food made with good quality ingredients. The service is good and the ingredients are fresh and tasty. Only bug bear is that it's not mega intimate and romantic but for what it lacks in "romantic pretension" it makes up for in practicalities. Good value for money and the guys work hard. The stairs to the toilets and the toilets themselves are a little neglected-half flushed toilet is not a good look and the corners of the loo when looking at door (i.e during the act) are not clean and should be. Toilets and kitchens often go together. Please clean it as a mark of respect to customers. Would have been a higher rating if this had been up to scratch.

We have eaten in the restaurant before and thought the food ok but the service poor. We put it down to a busy night or two. Twice now with deliveries our experience has been even worse. The latest was a waiter on the phone telling us he was too busy to hunt down our missing delivery order. I guess they want us to take our custom elsewhere. In a city as big as London, that won't be too hard.

Feeling hungry while walking through West Hampstead, my wife and I popped into Ladudu as we're big fans of Vietnamese food and were encouraged to see the place full on a Sunday evening. How disappointed we were. Vietnamese food should be fragrant, with depth of flavour. Ladudu's food was decidedly average, and hugely overpriced for what it is. A dish of salmon chunks cooked in a fish sauce reduction was £11.50 but came with no vegetables and no rice, for which we had to pay extra as a side dish - just salmon in a fairly bland, watery sauce. One of the week's specials, a coconut chicken dish for £9, again had so little flavour, despite being advertised as a dish containing fresh herbs and spices. We complained to the manager, who said that our complaint was our opinion ("most people say our food is excellent") and he was unwilling to take our complaint on board. In fact he made us feel quite uncomfortable for having complained and we were eager to leave despite his offer of a free ice cream. Overall, a pretty poor experience and didn't feel like value for money. We've eaten far better Vietnamese food at this (or lower) price point in London (e.g. the Pho chain and the little hole in the wall place on Upper St in Islington).

La Du Du is a cafe/restaurant and with a relaxed atmosphere and good food. Good place to go with a crowd and share the soup noodles. Betal beef rools/soft shelled crab/squid starters very good. Main courses of sauteed beef and caramalised salmon hotpot were very tasty. Plenty for vegetarians as most dishes give you a choice of beef/pork/chicken/tofu.The food is authentic and they serve traditional Vietnamese coffee and exotic cocktails. Try the cocktail with espresso coffee. The service was very friendly and efficient. We went Friday evening and needed to book. Ask for seating away from the door as it can be a bit draughty.

We visitied this restaurant last year and were pleased with their food. However, when we tried them again last week, the standard was nothing like what it used to be. The chiii garlic squid was tough like rubber and the meat in our 'Pho' contained pieces that resembled offal rather than beef. Other dishes such as the 'Combo' was poor value for money. Definitely will not be returning.

After many year's of not trying Vietnamese, was very pleasantly surprised to come across La Du Du by West Hampstead Overground Stn. We tried the lunchtime special, a big bowl of their vegetarian noodles, with tofu...YUMMY!! We were not rushed at all, and felt very relaxed. The food does not come out quick, but that is good, as it shows the food is being freshly prepared..and it tasted like it also! Lots of lovely fresh, just-cooked-right, ingredients I have never taken to cooked celery...until a visit here...it made a lovely addition to the meal. This dish contains quail eggs, so if vegan, ask accordingly. It had a wonderful relaxed atmosphere and by the height of lunchtime, the place was really filling up. The other dishes that were coming out of the kitchen for the other diners looked equally as fresh and impressive. So, if you are in West Hampstead and hungry for something tasty, without being rushed, then I would definitely recommend this place. One of the best meals I have had in a very long time!

Its always a bit of gamble to organise a get together of friends in a restaurant that you dont know and on a Saturday night. But la Du Du proved to be a good choice. The bistro-like design comprises a flexible and wide range of seating options making the place suitable for groups of two to ten. Postioned opposite West Hampstead overground station and just up the road from West Hampstead tube, the restaurant was convenient and quickly found by all my group. The menu is sufficient to provide variety and includes vegetarian options. The spicey beef stew was a hit amongst my group but everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The home made ice cream provoked a few ooos! The location, the layout , the food and the helpful attidue of the staff all made it a very enjoyable evening for me and my friends. The cost per person worked out at £33 for two/ three courses (not everyone had 3), a few vietnamese beers each and coffee (according to a poster on the wall Vietnam is the world's biggest exporter of coffee!
