La Cueva in Stockport

Our second visit here, first time was a Monday evening and the food and service was fantastic. This latest visit was as a Saturday evening and completely the opposite. Things started out well, but as the restaurant got to capacity, it seemed like the staff were struggling to cope. We waited 20 minutes to place a dessert order, they never came. The same waiter came approx 20 mins later and asked if we wanted dessert! I told him not now, and asked for the bill. 15 mins later, we put on our coats and paid at the till on the way out. That's our second and last visit.

Dined in the salt cave, which was lovely and nice and warm. Service was attentively, friendly, and attentive. All dishes ordered were tasty, and the Paella was packed with seafood. It was my sisters birthday, and they came out and sang happy birthday to her, which was a really sweet gesture. They even put a candle in her ice cream.

24th birthday celebration , amazing! Recently visited from Cornwall to visit family and decided to try La Cueva as a tapas place for birthday. Very glad I chose this beautiful restaurant as the interior is salt rock cave style very instagramable and so impressed with the food and service. Staff very attentive , every dish was flavourful and beautifully presented. Staff made an effort to make my evening special , seafood albeit not by the sea tasted very fresh and the bruschetta was the perfect appetiser. Thank you!

We had a meal here for 8 people, following a work meeting. The service was fantastic, the food was amazing, we overordered a bit on the tapa though so be careful! 😂 Would definitely visit again, all the dishes we had between us I would recommend, from chicken, chorizo to spicy potatoes, to paella, to the fresh warm bread, to the cheesy mushrooms and spanish omelette they were all amazing. Quick and efficient service too. If I was nitpicking I would say the spicy potato's could do with a bit more spice. Oh, the meatballs. How could I forget those?! Those meatballs must be some of the best I've ever had. And I've had a lot. They were still juicy inside (loads these days are dry and overcooked) and the taste... my god. Anyway, spot on, would go again and would recommend to anyone in the area.

Service fine. Food fine. Good choice for vegetarians. One of our pleasures when dining out for Tapas, is to find an interesting Rioja. So disappointing to only be offered a supermarket wine at an enormous mark up.

Absolutely delicious food in the incredible 'cave' room at the back of the restaurant. The walls are lined with great blocks of what looks like Himalayan rock salt and the roof has stalactites hanging down. It's brilliant. Great service too.

Work dinner food was quite good quality and varied. Portions are OK.

Heard good things about this place, overall experience rubbish food very bland just slop left most of it and sent a dish back as couldn’t stomach it as it was just swimming around in a dish full of oil. Waitress wasn’t very attentive and looked miserable a smile goes a long way in this line of work. Spoke to the manager he took the dish of the bill we sent back. Wouldn’t go again we dine out a lot and this has to be at the bottom of my list

Visited this restaurant on a busy Friday night and the food quality and service was excellent, despite the restaurant being extremely busy, and the staff running around constantly in an effort to deal with the volume of people in the restaurant. We enjoyed a lovely evening and somehow the food was served to us at a good pace. Not a cheap night out when you add in bottles of wine and brandies etc but well worth it as the whole experience was very positive.

Delicious meal here, lovely decor and atmosphere and service. Tapas delicious, particularly reccomend the creamy chicken, the creamy sauce is lovely! Croquettes excellent too! Hope to return ◡̈

Just spent a few hours enjoying the food, drinks and atmosphere. Weather was decent (not sunny but warm) so sat outside on the terrace at the front. So much to choose from and all looked and smelt delicious - wish would could’ve ate more but saved space for churros. After licking the plate clean (and getting caught by the waiter) we knew it was good :) Will be back, highly recommended and thank you for your hospitality and great food. 10/10

Went here for lunch on a sunny weekday. Sat in the outside seating area which was nice, hence the higher atmosphere rating. When we got here we asked for a table and the waitress asked us to wait a moment, with her back to us we waited a few awkward minutes whilst she did something on the computer (we were the only people in the restaurant at this point) When the food came I found it obvious the food was frozen and then deep fried, the calamari is perfect rings which is a key sign, they tasted OK but were accompanied with a brown wilted leafy salad. The empanadas were terrible, the meat inside was incredibly dry and the pastry was burnt. The croquetas tasted ok but these were also frozen then deep fried. Very over priced for tapas which doesn’t taste authentic or good quality in the slightest. We had 4 tapas & 2 soft drinks, the bill came to £41.25 which in my opinion is terrible considering the quality of the food. As for the service, the waitress decided to have her lunch whilst we had ours, never returned to check our food was ok (she was having her lunch at the time anyway) or asked if we enjoyed it when we went up to the desk to pay the bill. Would not recommend, sorry.

I attended this restaurant with my partner and her family. Between 6 people we ordered way too much food! It cost a total of £270 (around m £45pp) which is reasonable considering the quality of food and service. Good tapas is hard to come by. My partner and I personally shared: [ratings out of 10] Patatas Bravas [8.7/10] Ensalada La Cueva [8.1/10] Albondigas con Mozzarella [9/10] (meatballs with cheese) Croquetas de jamon serrano [7.8/10] (Ham Croquettes) Pinchos de Cordero [10/10] (grilled Lamb Cubes) Brochetas De Pollo Y Chorizo [9/10] (chicken & chorizo) Garlic bread & cheese [8.8/10] As you can see we had plenty of food between us! Only comment being the Ham in some croquettes was a little hard and chewy but that didn’t ruin anything. I also tasted the Ribs which were a solid 8.5/10. The atmosphere was great and the service was perfect, cleared empty plates and took orders very quickly. The wait for food wasn’t long at all and it all practically came out together. I would say given the people I was with, the atmosphere, the decor, the service, the taste and price, this was top 5 meals I’ve ever had. Only downer being we were sat in the middle of the restaurant and I had the end seat which constantly kept getting nudged every time a customer or waiter passed which was a little annoying. However, if you take one thing from reading this, ORDER THE LAMB CUBES! Best meat I’ve ever had.

Had a brilliant meal with friends here last night. Service was tip top from both wait staff, super friendly and attentive. The food was incredible, and the wine was a great pair. We will definitely be back. For 6 people with wine very reasonable at around £45 each with tip for 3-4 dishes per person.

Came here on a Sunday when it first opened and was absolutely great. Good service, great food and a nice atmosphere.

Pretty good, a little spenny though for what you get. £9 for 3-4 calamari although they were cooked well and were a decent size. They give you plenty of bread if you order it. Service great, amazing atmosphere.

Never been here, the food was great however the service wasn’t great at all! Nobody came to see how the meal was! Waited around 20 minutes to ask for the bill! Food great service not great! Have to say the waiter who delivered some of our food was lovely great banter but the 2 female waitress’s seemed like they couldn’t be bothered!

Ate early evening on a Saturday with the two kids. Was relatively quiet when we arrived, which was great as we went to sit through the back section of the restaurant. Would recommend this if possible as it has a lovely intimate atmosphere with a low ceiling and salt stone walls. By the time we had finished dining, the place was pretty much full. The staff were really pleasant and attentive, and actually apologised for being short-staffed but you would never had known. Now to the food... Wow! As good as any tapas I've had in Spain. Our order included garlic prawns, meatballs, creamy chicken, chicken wings and the ham croquettes. It was hard to pick out a stand-out dish as all were absolutely superb! And another amazing thing was how fast the food came out, with everything being piping hot. Can't believe it has taken me so long to get round to trying this place! Will definitely be back. Highly recommended.

The food was very good, but the presence of halloumi, feta parcels, hummus and pita (all traditional eastern Mediterranean dishes) on a menu for a Spanish restaurant seems out of place. The lamb estafado, chorizo and garlic prawns were excellent, but the pork belly was slightly overcooked and dry. Nonetheless, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. They also cater to gluten intolerant diners. And they do excellent cocktails. Vaya!

I can’t begin to tell you how amazing this place is! My son loves the food here and requested that his 14th birthday celebrations were held there. There were 15 adults and 4 children. The staff went above and beyond, they also made my son feel so special. I was able to go during the day and decorate the tables , everyone was so helpful. The food is amazing!!! Literally every dish on the menu is exquisite. We have all come away on a high and can’t thank you all enough. What a place! What a night! THANK-YOU each and everyone of you xxx

I come here with my boyfriend for a celebration, this place is fabulous. The food is always 10/10 and the staff are amazing. The atmosphere is lovely it’s a great experience, especially with the salt cave.

What a fantastic service!!! Our waitress was called Julie and she was the best, so polite and recommended us dishes to try. She was faultless I'd return for her to serve us she was just brilliant! The food was sublime, the creamy chicken was outstanding. Thank you so much

Overpriced Wine. Food very average. Small oration of olives £4.50 asked for some more pitta bread £2.95 for 1 Chicken paella for 2 few peas, green and red peppers for and 4 pieces also very dry and tasteless not worth £26.95. Customer service dreadful rushing around like headless chickens once order taken that was it! Not even a smile! Would definitely not recommend and certainly wont be going back.

Never left a bad review in my life worst tapas I have ever had and massively over priced fell bad for putting this review but I'm being honest flavours we're terrible and I had 4 forks my partner also left 80% of her food was 180 pound , also waited 20 min to take drink order and had to ask to order , sorry 😞

Great food but it was extremely busy and we felt rushed as they had people waiting- that’s good as you know people want to eat but not at the expense of being felt like you are holding people up! Very small table for three people meant glasses were balanced on little shelf and we had to mix tapas to get everything on!

We’d heard rave reviews for this place from friends and family so we’re excited to try it for ourselves. When we arrived we were rushed in and plonked on a table with no greeting or menus, bearing in mind at this point the restaurant wasn’t very busy. We were left for about 20 minutes before anyone came to greet us. And the first thing we were asked was “how long will you be staying because you might not be able to stay at this table”. To which we didn’t really know how to respond as at this point we hadn’t ordered or seen a menu. Bearing in mind all this time other tables were being seated, given menus and had drinks orders taken. We finally ordered or drinks which then took about 15 minutes to arrive again all while other tables seated after us were receiving there drinks. We ordered various tapas (which arrived faster than the drinks) and the food was okay nothing special but the service at the start really ruined the whole experience for us, so purely because of the service unfortunately we would not return again or recommend this place. Over all we just didn’t feel very welcome and felt slightly uncomfortable which shouldn’t be the case.

One word… WOW Been to a few tapas places over time but this by far beats every one of them. The sangria was lovely and each dish I had was so nice. I think if I had to choose a favourite it would be the creamy chicken. Service was good and very speedy. All the staff we spoke to were absolutely lovely. My only negative was the volume of the music but that is all I can say as a negative. I don’t think this place is pricey like I’ve read, it’s tapas and I think the pricing is normal. We all agreed we would definitely come back again and I would highly recommend it to everyone and anyone.

Ordered a take away paella for 50+ people for an event. Easy to organise, collected it on time, even got a trip through the kitchen, which was spotless clean and well organised. The food was a great success - tasted FANTASTIC and everyone loved it. Clean plates all round!

Lovely restaurant and decor. Nice wine.. awesome chicken wings, calamari, and chorizo. Service was quick and efficient but lacked a friendly attentive touch from the serving staff who looked like they didn't want to be there. Pricing is spot on.. A busy venue and a nice atmosphere.

Me and hubby went for his birthday treat as its quite expensive , beautiful food , Our daughter phoned earlier and paid for a bottle of Prosecco to be bought to our table ..which we never received 😢 She has received a refund and an apology to say it was very busy !! Sorry La cueva really not good enough !

Came for first time wanted to visit for a while. Ordered pina colada was given a warm glass of milk with coconut bits floating around the glass, the drink had not shaken as a cocktail should be. He stirred with spoon tasted it and put back in my drink paid for drink and starter and left won’t be back.

Food is nice. Drinks very expensive. J20 with soda £5.95! When ordering food, read the Spanish of what we wanted which is on the menu next to the English and got told to order in English. Bit rude when I was just trying to make an effort

Food was AMAZING. Can’t fault it!

Me and my other half came here as we’ve been before but it’s been a while. Absolutely faultless, fast and fresh. We got a table fast without booking. We ordered 6 dishes between us and that was enough. My favourites were the ham croquettes and the lamb cubes! Definitely worth going in. One of the best places we have been to in a while. Cheadles hidden gem.

Having heard good recommendations and being local to us in Cheadle, we booked for a party of 10 in early October for Friday 15th December at 9pm. Despite conflicting information about the last order time for the kitchen of 10pm, we were assured by staff, and even the owner, numerous times over the lead up, and when paying the deposit, that there wouldn't be a problem on the evening. We arrived on time and were seated off the main dining area which was fine, firstly ordering drinks. There was continually confusion between the waiters as to whether the draught beer was Estrella or San Miguel, and 2 bottles of Rioja were placed on the table open, and left for us to pour ourselves. The waiter didn't ask if anyone wanted to taste if it was acceptable. I have never experienced this before! We ordered entrees and tapas dishes, which arrived very quickly, and have to say the food was very good. Once we had all finished, the waiter came to clear away the dishes, and we asked to order main courses, this was at 9.45pm. He told us that the kitchen was now closed and the cook had gone home. We protested this was contrary to what had been said during the booking process, and the stated kitchen closing time of 10pm on the website, nor had it been communicated when we ordered the drinks and tapas. Over the next 15 minutes, a waiter, then a manager came and went but kept coming back just reiterating that there was now nobody in the kitchen, along with various irrelevant excuses and apologies. Extremely annoyed and our evening drastically curtailed, we asked how much was owed, but that we would not pay the 10% service charge, and were informed that it was £211. This was after the previously paid deposit of £100 had been deducted. No bill or receipt was offered, and we said we would pay £200 (cash} and this was readily accepted. We walked out at about 10.15pm. In the 45 minutes we were sat at the table, we had spent £311.00, and had we been able to complete the evening with additional food and drink, we anticipated that we would have spent at least further £250.00, our evening was completely spoilt by the mismanagement at La Cueva. We have never had an experience of this kind in all the years we have been doing our annual 'get togethers', either in Bramhall, Cheadle or Wilmslow restaurants, and despite the food being fine it has certainly put many of us off going to La Cueva again unfortunately.

With a warm welcome and spacious table arrangements, allowing freedom of movement and conversation, this a new favourite for me. The menu offers plenty of choice, the prices seem on the high side but the food is excellent quality and value for money. The staff are friendly, helpful and efficient with a special shout out to Alex who has brightened each of our visits. I would highly recommend this little gem. Private dining is also available.

I really visited this restaurant after hearing rave reviews. I have to say that o wasn’t overwhelmed. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy and I liked that the staff weren’t hovering over us. Unfortunately the lady who took our orders was very stony faced- no hellos or pleasantries- just a”what do you want”. I had a glass of very average Rioja, which I found bizzare in a Spanish restaurant. The food was was really delicious but the prices are insanely high and the portions are insulting small. The calamari we ordered, for example (which was £8) was literally 4 small rings on a plate of leaves and so it went on with every dish. There’s one thing to keep costs down in this economic climate, please understand things are expensive, but this was really a joke and an insult. I’d be embarrassed to recommend this to family or friends for this reason.

Every dish was absolutely beautiful, the staff were incredible, such a beautiful meal in a fantastic setting..could not recommend it more 😀 I went last week for the 1st time, and went again yesterday, and will definitely be back there soon.

Would not recommend this place. Reservation made for a group of 6 well in advance. We arrived too early and where told the table was not ready, so no drama we'll pop to the pub down the road. Arrived back at our reservation time to find now there is no table available. Made to wait outside for 40 minutes past our reservation time, when we eventually gave up and went else where. Very poor service and management.

Booked a table for 11 people for my hubbys birthday meal, we were seated on arrival and were looked after from start to finish. Food was amazing. Everyone had different dishes and said how lovely and tasty they were. Highly reccomend booking 5* Will definantly be returning. Thank you all so much.

My wife and I went for dinner on Saturday night, and we both said what a cracking place this is. The staff were very friendly and gave us time to pick out tapas. We picked 5, and that was more than enough, and they were all to a very high standard . We also had a glass of very drinkable wine ( just 1 driving ) . The price was an even better so good value

Friendly restaurant, with a great range of dishes available. The food comes out as and when it is ready as is normal with tapas. Our group had items including the Belly Pork, which was very tender and Paella which was very tasty. All dishes served are big enough to share between 2 people so nice to try a selection of dishes.

Really nice restaurant with authentic tapas. Food great, it's real tapas rather than all your food coming at same time. The cave at the back with the rocksalt walls is great and service excellent.

Went as a Saturday night treat. Booked the table for 7:30. The greeter couldn’t find a table for us so we waited near the door along with a few others. Eventually seated whilst the waitress cleaned our table, apologising, she said they always overbook. Had to ask for menus. Then had three waitresses in succession ask us if we were ready to order. Drinks served fast and we eventually ordered 6 tapas dishes. The waitress said they would arrive as they were ready and we expected the usual relaxed tapas style service. They all arrived within the next few minutes. Wham bam thank you mam. We were in and out in under an hour. The food was disappointing. Calamari was 3 rings of 70% batter to 30% squid. Goats cheese croquettes tasted very processed and mostly filled with a floury sauce. Again 90% filler and I could barely taste the goats cheese. The potatas bravas were really disappointing. Soggy squares with a tomato sauce on top. No crunch there at all. Even just chips or deep fried potatoes would have been an improvement. My husband had meatballs which he enjoyed and some pork which was edible. The pardron peppers were the only thing they got right. When they bought the bill the waitress bought the pay machine with her and waited for us to pay up immediately. I asked for a few moments to review the bill and said that we felt that the whole meal had been rushed. She apologised and agreed and left us for a few moments. For some reason this place is incredibly busy. I really don’t understand why. There are loads of better restaurants in Cheadle.

A great place. Tapas are only small so it's better ordering two dishes. Plenty to choose from and great drink selection as well. The bill can add up (the more you have), but still: a celebration, date night - it's worth at least once a month. Best to book a table in advance as well. Parking is practically no existent so- a taxi is best - drink more sangria that way!

Nice place and friendly service but the food wasn't the best.

If you love tapas food and excellent service it's a must visit venue. First time visit and nothing but praise from us. Staff are very attentive food delivered very quick even when resturant is full. Very tasty dishes and great varied menu. We had 6 plates between 2 and a bread side easily enough and the Malbac is a great wine nice seating on the kerbside its like you are on vacation on a warm late summer evening a definate for another visit 5*

Service was a bit slow to begin with, as in it took a while for then to take the food order, however the food came quickly once ordered. Food itself was very nice.

Late afternoon meal with family. Enjoyed each dish, eleven ordered. Requested a staggered service (twice) but most dishes came all at once. Space an issue. Delay before salad and then paella. Recommend only order a few dishes at a time! Wine expensive for quality. Recommend food.

Great food, lovely staff and atmosphere! We had 9 dishes between 3 and they were all delicious, would 100% recommend the lamb cubes! The red wine sangria was really nice and complemented the food well (as you'd maybe hope with tapas).

Food is amazing even thought I ate vegetarian food with my friends who are vegetarian. The Tapas food was amazing till I forgot to take the pictures!🤣🤣 Service is good. Will go back to try the meat tapas and seafood paella!!
