We celebrated our Grand Daughters 17th birthday…The service was average…We had to ask for a wine by the bottle menu which was in fact a better deal…The menu was not as impressive as the website suggests…I ordered lobster ravioli at $23.95 and received 7 not homemade with no crabmeat or tomatoes. One of my Grand Daughters ordered the beautiful NY Strip medium well; it came out late medium rare. When returned fifteen minutes later it was perfect but the entire table had finished eating…I hope we experienced a night where key kitchen help did not show up for work; otherwise this restaurant needs to tighten up to stay in business…

We had an excellent experience tonight! Took a group of 14, and the waitress handled it like a pro! Great food! Best eggplant parmesan ever! We thought the food was an excellent value for the price. Some had the filet which was tender and cooked perfectly. Veal parmesan was delicious! Wonderful desserts, too. Loved the house salad dressing, too!

We were in Salisbury for a funeral and La Cava was highly recommended by some friends from home. Based on the reviews, I made a 6:45 reservation as we were traveling from out of town. We arrived and were immediately seated. Truly a beautiful restaurant, as it is a transformed church with spectacular stained glass and an amazing wooden ceiling. It took a while for a server to come by the table which we found a bit odd. They let us sample two different wines before we made our selection; very nice touch so we thought we in for a great evening. Our server seemed quite new and not familiar with the wines nor the menu items. We ordered appetizer, both specials of the evening; leek and potato soup (vichyssoise?) and a watermelon and prosciutto salad. The entrée menu was short and not as many Italian options as we would have liked. I ordered the Veal Parmesan and was informed it was sold out (at 6:45?) which was odd. I ordered the 'special' fettuccini with mushrooms. Very good but truly over priced for the dish served. We had to continually summon the server for fresh pepper (no salt or pepper on the tables), cheese, etc. We were never offered a second glass of wine. While the food was good, the service lacked for such a highly recommended and reviewed restaurant. When the bill came, I was wrestling with the gratuity, yet they bought the computer over and we had no choice; 20% being the lowest option. Truly offensive... I guess when a server knows they will receive at least 20%, service can be at their pleasure, not yours. I am not sure when we return to Salisbury this will be on our list of 'go to' restaurants. my wife had the spinach

We came from out of town to take a couple out for their birthdays. We selected LaCava from Trip Advisor reviews. We were not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious and the menu and off-menu items offered wonderful selection for everyone’s taste. The service was nicely paced and very friendly. And the atmosphere, especially the stained glass windows, was wonderful. We had a delightful experience - it was just what we hoped it would be. The only suggestion I’d have for the LaCava team is that the food wasn’t as hot as it could have been when delivered to the table.

The restaurant is beautiful (in a architecturally great church built in the 1890's) and the food well prepared. The Lobster Ravioli was the best that I have had anywhere. My wife's gluten free pasta with sausage also was excellent. Drinks were well prepared and a great wine selection. The wait staff were friendly and efficient (and all wore masks). Plenty of room for social distancing seating. Considering the quality of the food and service, the prices are reasonable.

What an evening. We went to La Cava to celebrate my birthday with several friends. 2020 has been an interesting year. We haven’t had the opportunity to really celebrate with friends a whole lot. We certainly selected the appropriate place to do this at La Cava. It’s beautiful inside and out the food was wonderful and the service was amazing. We ordered the Ravioli, they plant Parmesan, wine beer salads and a dish that I am afraid I don’t recall the name but it was a small piece of bread with honey and cheese. Amazing. And the desserts I can’t say one was better than the other they were all delicious. Really enjoyed our self and will be back. Thanks for a great job everyone.

I would not live in Salisbury, NC were it not for La Cava. Let me tell you the story. When my wife and I visited Salisbury back in 2005, looking to move here, I was NOT on board. Pulling off of 85 onto E Innes St back then really reinforced my desire to stay where we were in comfortable, suburban Loudoun County in Northern Virginia. Back then, E Innes at 85 was an eyesore. It has improved immensely since then, but in 2005, yuck. By the time that we got to the downtown and West Square historic district, things were looking up a bit, but I maintained my desire to not move to Salisbury. We looked at some houses, including the one that brought us to town. The wife was excited - not me. It was not until we had dinner at La Cava on Saturday night, that I got on the Salisbury bandwagon. We were greeted by Jessica at the table and after mentioning that she did not know us and introducing herself, she then asked, "So what is the plan tonight? Are you hungry now? Do you want to have a drink and relax for a bit? How do you want tonight to go?" I was gobsmacked. I was used to the DC market where, as soon as you sit down, they start the meter running to get you to buy as much as they can, in as short amount of time as possible, and then get you out the door to do it all again with the next table. Well we had the most wonderful relaxing dinner. The atmosphere was lovely, each course better than the previous one. The service was perfect and gracious. At the end of the meal, Jessica came by and said, "How about an after dinner drink?" Now, at this point, it is important to mention that I ran a fine dining Italian restaurant in Northern Virginia that about $2.5 million dollars in sales annually, so I know restaurants and I know wine. I decided to take a chance to ask if Jessica had Vin Santo. For those of you that are not familiar with Vin Santo, it is a Tuscan dessert wine that is wonderful and tastes like sunshine. As I was asking the question, and older gentleman was walking by the table, stopped suddenly and asked, in an Italian accent, "I'm sorry. Did you just ask for Vin Santo?" I was a bit taken aback and said, "...um yes." He said, "I have a bottle that I have been waiting for someone to ask if we have. I'll be right back." He returned with bottle in hand, three glasses, and asked if he could join us. He introduced himself as the owner, Gianni Moscardini and shared the bottle of Vin Santo with us. I was now on board with moving to Salisbury because La Cava would be a block and a half from the house we ended up buying. I have been a regular customer there ever since and it is truly my "home away from home." If you go, ask if Gianni is in. He would love to meet you and tell you his story. He is a great friend. Also, tell him Greg sent you.

My wife and I were in town for the first time and found the restaurant on Trip Advisor. We called and made the reservation. Upon arriving we were treated and seated by very friendly staff. Our waiter immediately took our drink orders, brought fresh bread and wine to the table. The menu offered many different options. I had the NY strip that was covers in a delicious mushroom sauce My wife had the eggplant parmigiana. We ended the night with delicious deserts. The setting in the old church built in 1897 is not only unique but beautiful with the sun coming through the stained glass windows. That with the table setting if flowers and candles make for a delightful dinner experience. We will surly make this stop the next time in the area.

We had a reservation at 9 and when we came in the door they acted like we had no business coming in. The restaurant is a former church and the atmosphere and decor are actually pretty nice. The hostess was pleasant and sat us. Took more than a few minutes to get drinks and menu. The server told us no rush but that kitchen closing soon. The posted closing time is 10 and we got there at 9 so that was annoying but whatever. We order the special New york strip and it was decent, though a bit more medium rare rather than medium, taste was ok, not great but not bad. A chef or someone did come out and ask if my steak was ok bc they could see it was undercooked. I said it was ok but kept getting redder and redder as I ate. We Also had a pasta dish it was good, but had a strange aftertaste. Again not great but not bad. The broccoli was really undercooked and when I told the server she said " Wow" like that I was offensive that I didn't like it. We were not offered dessert even though the table beside us were, they even brought a cart out for them to look at. I understand when its closing time people are ready to leave but we got there an hour before posted closing time and didn't feel welcome at all. The food was decent but not special. I would pass on this restaurant.

When I called to make the reservation, I was told they could squeeze us in at 5:30. We didn’t want to go that early, but I took what was available. Upon arrival at 5:30, the doors were locked and all the 5:30 reservations were standing in the cold. We had to call from outside to get someone to let us in. Their response...@ we don’t open u til 5:30”. The restaurant was not even half full, so I’m not sure why they told me they squeezed us in. We were seated and the oil was poured for bread.... but the bread didn’t come for 15 more minutes. The food was expensive but not memorable at all. It is a beautiful facility in an old church. It could potentially be fabulous.... but I would never eat here again. Very disappointing. My sister warned me it wasn’t that good for the money.... my son also told me that. But I wanted to give my 82 year old mother a memorable New Year’s Eve. But after standing in the cold waiting to get in... she was ready to leave before we even got started. People in town are in awe of this restaurant, occupies an old church in the middle of an historic neighborhood, but their awe is always followed by 'it's so expensive." This was out 2nd visit in many years, because, it's 'so expensive', but we were celebrating a major event and wanted to treat ourselves. It was such a let down, the price stature has remained the same and the quality, variety and taste was such a let down. I think if the prices had been 30% less I would give it a 3+ rating. It seemed like canned crab on the pasta crab entree which was very dry, the appetizer, figs, pepperoni and cheese wasn't special at all, we ordered the tomato, mozzarella, basil as a salad and there was less than a leaf of basil. Our desert was good, tiramisu, and appropriately priced. We knew our tab would be high, we were celebrating, but thought the quality would be up there with the price. Instead it was so, so and unremarkable. I expect much better at that price point. (I would quote exact menu prices but can't remember the specifics)

Our large group was one of only two parties in the restaurant the entire time we were there, yet we found the service somewhat lacking. When gratuity is automatically added to large parties, you expect top notch service. Several people in our party had to ask for drink refills. The food was good- loved the appetizers and the desserts were fabulous, but the main dishes were a little too fancy for our taste. My spaghetti was full of onions and quite spicy. The red snapper was too much for me with eyeballs and all. The ambience of the restaurant was great. Candlelight and the stained glass windows were beautiful. We took my wife out for her birthday to La Cava and were somewhat impressed. I say somewhat because the history of the building was wonderful, the wine and beer list was adequate, the service was somewhat strained and the food was almost perfect. Let me explain the 3 bullet rating. The service was strained because we never knew who was who. We had 5 different servers at ant given time and we couldn't figure out who was the head waiter. This is hard when you need help. The food was almost perfect except for the deboning of the red snapper. Yep, they missed at least a dozen bones. We said nothing but that's because we didn't know who to speak to. It would have helped if they deboned the red snapper in the little more light. And last but not least the prices were very expensive for Salisbury. It was great to go there once.

We dined with a group of six for a special late dinner celebration and this was the perfect locale. The restaurant is in an old church building which adds to the ambience with souring ceilings and stained glass windows, but the nightly specials stand on their own. Don't even bother with a menu, just listen to your professional server and make your selections from among the special appetizers, salads, soups and entrees. Daily dessert specials are presented tableside. We enjoyed everything we ordered this way! The chef is obviously well trained and each dish is authentic, while fresh and unique. I loved my pappardelle with a lamb ragout and the seafood dishes were also hits with my family. The burrata caprese salad special was incredible! We shared a dessert from the dessert cart, and it too was tasty. Portions are generous, service exemplary. As another reviewer stated, it would be most helpful if the specials were typed out so they could be referred to after the server announces them. Just too many specials to remember with all the details. Also the typed specials would be helpful to those with impaired hearing.

Went to this place on the recommendation of a local colleague. The place is located in a former church. Outside it's nothing to write home about, but inside it is very intimate and cool with most or all of the stained glass windows still in place. Arrived early with two work buddies. We were greeted immediately and given a table. Water arrived quickly and our drink orders were as well. Wine list was not huge, but far larger than we expected for an independent restaurant in a small town. Multiple options were available both by the bottle and by the glass, and all were generally reasonably priced. Bread arrived with our wine order. The menu has a nice selection of Italian favorites. But, we were happily surprised to learn of an extensive list of special items, both for appetizers and mains. Our trio ordered three different appetizers, all specials on a Wednesday night. I had a pulled pork taco dish with onions and pickled jalapeños and it was incredible. The owner/chef checked on us as we began to eat and described the dishes and offered to modify things if we preferred. My main course was a veggie and cheese ravioli dish that was superb. Wait times between ordering and the arrival of each course was very good. My friends were equally pleased with their dishes as well. Service was prompt and attentive without being intrusive. Finished the meal with some Gelato. Overall an excellent experience. I highly recommend this wonderful place.

From one who has traveled to Italy many times, I can honestly say that this lovely restaurant rivals the motherland! In fact, I had Bronzino, a delicate white fish, which is very difficult to find in the US, and it was just as good as Bronzino I've had in Italy. The watermelon salad with prosciutto, gorgonzola and arugula was tremendous. Our dining companions were duly impressed with the mixed grill and stone crab.

Food is really good but it is over priced. Do yourself a favor and have a cocktail before you go and get the special. It makes the prices a little easier to take.

Having searched in vain for a really good restaurant in Salisbury, we stumbled across La Cava and were impressed by the quality of the food. From appetizer, through main dishes and dessert, we were delighted by the skill of the chef. The use of fresh fare and the creativity of the offerings was impressive.

I have been here many times and have never used a menu. Their daily specials is all I ask for. Plenty of variety for all tastes. Service is great along with the ambionse. With that said, it is pricey. Oh, yeah i have to give a shout out to the dessert cart. I can't wait to go back again.

We had a party of 5 who dined at La Cava recently. I recommended La Cava for this special event even though it had been 7 or 8 years since we ate there last. I was a little concerned if it would be as spectacular as I had remembered. The food was over the top delicious and unusual and the atmosphere tranquil and peaceful and the service paced just right for fine dining. They had so many appetizer, salad and entree specials that it was hard to remember them all. I would suggest that they leave a card or sheet with the names of the specials to refresh your recollections of the servers descriptions. An abundant and varied selection of deserts were wonderful. If i didn't live 3 hours away I would dine here as often as I could afford.

The dining experience here was so special. It is an old church converted into a small personal dining experience. The food was exquisite and the staff were very personal. Including a personal description of every special by the Maitre' D. Plan on spending at least an hour donning, as food is presented in phases, not rushed

I recently had a dinner date at La Cava there in Salisbury, and what a wonderful surprise this Restaurant truly was. Everything about the place was exceptional, including the service. Yes, it was a week-night, so somewhat of a quiet evening, but the food, the service, and the ambiance was simply wonderful. It was worth the trip up from Charlotte to dine here, and I look forward to having an excuse to dine there again. Wonderful experience.

We just loved the fact that this restaurant was inside an old (1897), small church. Very unique setting. Beautiful stained glass windows. Just adds to the atmosphere for sure. The food was excellent. All made to order Italian. They offered many specials. I would say about as many as regular dishes on the menu! Quite a dessert selection too. Everything we had was terrific. Very attentive, friendly service. A bit pricey, this is a definite on our list for special occasions. If going on a weekend, I would call for a reservation. Not a huge place, but that makes it quite quaint.

Have been going here for many years for special occassions and although its always been expensive it has always been absolutely worth it as the food has always been amazing. No longer... the last couple of times we have been its not been anything like it used to be :( We always eat from the 'specials' no the menu... the choice has become very limited with little or no real 'cooking' particularly the appetizers. The mains were poorly executed. Very disappointing as its just too expensive unless its top notch which it no longer is :(

This place is quiet, Professional servers, You get authentic Italian and it is real good. I had a slice of Pizza that was great and crisp crust as it should be also had Lasagna. never had it so good. Service was as I said Professional, You know.. where they serve from the left and take from the right... Having a background in Restaurant service I was impressed to have the server stand behind the customer serving. This is a lost art found in Salisbury N.C. Good work guys. I would say I'll be back, But maybe not. Buth then again ya never know.

They moved quickly, caring for each table and greeting each customer with genuine warmth. Their knowledge of the menu is impeccable and they can answer questions about each dish. Beautiful old church transformed into a lovely restaurant. As impressive as it was with white linens and candles, I observed many opportunities to update the décor. Staff was great. Owner present the entire time we were dining but did not visit the patrons (except for 1 table, and the time he came to our table to speak w/ our waitress and didn't bother to say hello or, excuse himself for interrupting)1 of our 2 entrees was excellent. The other was over-ridden with garlic. I would excuse the kitchen but not the owner.

What a great place for a special occasion. We were seated in the former alter of this refurbished church turned fine Italian dining. Great table by ourselves next to the "wine wall". Beautiful view as the sun set through the magnificent stained glass windows. Wow!

My partner is an Italian with extensive fine restaurant background, I am a native Southern Appalachian cook. We both have very picky palates. When we can't make the 2 hour round trip from south of Charlotte for dinner at La Cava we think about it and want to be there. Truly wonderful food. Just go. Thanks again, Gianni! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Unfortunately unable to review accomodation, food or service as we were double booked. Apparently landlords wife responsible for this so she was summoned. Landlord then completely ignored us and didnt even offer us a seat let alone an apology, this was left to his wife. She didnt seem well and was apparently in hospital at the time of our booking. She went away, 20 mins later produced £140 to cover the cost at premier inn who had ample availability and she had phoned them. Premier Inn denied any phone calls from Helen. They had one room which went whilst we were trying to book it. Plenty of certificates of awards, shame they are so old and tatty like the pub. I hate being lied to but rudeness, lies and facing a night in the car... Dont book here, disgraceful performance. Tired and niaive, should have insisted they booked it in front of us! Took the edge off Bath Christmas market tbh!

It’s the first time for years that I’ve been for a meal at The Agra. It was always good previously but I was blown away by the experience tonight. The staff were attentive but not intrusive and the decor had been updated and was elegant. The food was absolutely delicious. I had sweet chilli chicken with rice which was wonderful. I was in a group of 4 adults and a child and we all chose a different main course after sharing a selection of starters. Each dish was amazing and only my grandson could manage a dessert. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will look forward to going back.
