We ordered a takeaway for seven people last night and both the service and food were absolutely top notch. We ordered six pizzas and a chicken wrap along with a number of sides and not only was everything available exactly at the time we asked for (on a busy Saturday), but it was delicious and good value for money. Would definitely recommend for anyone visiting Dunoon and looking for tasty food to satisfy a group.

Above review was left previously - this time we were downstairs in La Cantina who hosted a wonderful pizza and milkshake lunch for my daughter's 10th birthday. We couldn't have asked for a better experience; we were warmly welcomed, so well looked after and the food was delicious as always. Hugely grateful to all - Management, Service and Kitchen - for such a fab afternoon and happy memories.

Nice little restaurant with great hardworking staff. Pizzas are great, fajitas were ok as chicken slightly dry. Not the cheapest but on the whole food is nice.

It's an okay place to go when in Dunoon , not that it has much competition. Food was under seasoned and a bit bland.

Great friendly staff and very prompt. The food was lovely , I had the chicken burrito and the serving size was generous. The menu had a good variety of options too, overall 100% worth the reasonable price.

Yesterday whilst in Dunoon for a visit we decided to have our meal in this restaurant as there was not a lot open. Staff were attentive and service was good. My wife opted for the BBQ Chicken with Bacon and I chose the Scampi. Both came well presented, warm and tasty! They have a good range of options, drinks and cocktails. Worth a visit if you are in the area!

Absolutely fantastic meal here. Visiting the area and we decided on trying here due to the excellent reviews. Totally lived up to the reviews we read. Loved the atmosphere and American theme, food was excellent, service was top notch and the owners son was really friendly, we loved chatting to him after our meal and hearing the history of the place. If we come back to the area we wouldn't hesitate on coming back here, well done all!!

Amazing food made more amazing by outstanding service by Alison! Girl deserves a raise for sure. Goes above and beyond without even being prompted. After being in hospitality for 18 years and regarding myself as the best waitress/manager ever, Alison is absolutely a close second. She cares about and absolutely loves her job an it shows in every single aspect. An absolute credit to her manager and owner.

Very impressed with our first time eating in La Cantina. Waitress with a smile, tasty food, and an excellent band to dance to after our meal. Perfect Saturday night. 😀

It was ok, bit grubby and basic. Maybe too much variety between American, Italian and other cuisines ?

So a very mixed experience. The first day I had scampi and chips. It was great and I'd go 5 stars. A few days later I went for a PLAIN cheeseburger and it was a disaster. I expected the burger to be plain but it had been made with herbs and onion and garlic powder so it definitely wasn't plain. Don't advertise something and then serve something else. I was really disappointed that day.

I absolutely loved this place. I visited eith my other half and my little girl and we all enjoyed it. The staff were great with my girl who is almost 2 and the food was top notch! 👌 we will be back next time we visit Dunoon!

Food was ok. Service was friendly. Chicken burger wasn't a proper southern fried chicken burger as advertised but was edible. Bacon and mushroom pasta was ok also but very heavy on the garlic. Edible food at a sensible price but nothing special.

If you’re looking for a decent American style pizza crust you’ll find it at 51st State. We were ecstatic to discover the crust they make by hand is chewy, crispy, light and flavourful. Also have had the Mac and Cheese which is huge and very tasty. The onion rings are battered not breaded but they use real sliced onions. Next time I’ll be ordering a strawberry milkshake to see if its as thick as American shakes. Will definitely be getting our pizza fix from 51st State from now on.

We had a lovely meal here at 51st State on a Friday night. We would recommend booking your table as it gets quite busy especially at weekends. I had the Chicken wrap with sweet chilli sauce chips and salad which was good. My partner had the smothered chicken and chips which was very good indeed. We had a few drinks and also the sticky toffee pudding for dessert and this was equally as good as the other food we had. We have been here quite a few times and would most definitely come back in the future.

Food was not bad, not great. My burrito was covered in loads of cheese which was a bit odd and not that nice. The starter of squat lobster was nice. Good kids menu and friendly service.

Came here for my birthday dinner with three friends, menu has everything on it, from burgers and pasta to tex mex, we decided to have starters which arrived in no time, they were great sized portions very well presented and delicious!!, our mains arrived not long after we had finished eating our starters and I think we all had a OMG I’ll never eat all that moment, the portion size of the mains were huge, the food was piping hot and delicious, we all tucked in but all thinking maybe a starter wasn’t such a good idea, needless to say we were unable to finish our mains, as much as we wanted too we were full, The staff are lovely, friendly and chatted away and nothing was a bother. For 4 of us incl 2 glasses of wine and 2 soft drinks the bill came to just under £90, well impressed. I definitely recommend you come here for dinner when your visiting Dunoon you will not be disappointed, the only difficult bit is choosing a main course and whether you want a starter or dessert. I would recommend the steak burrito, or the Cajun chicken, or the Mac N cheese or the chilli burger, all very delicious and very filling.

Staff are friendly food is good, great atmosphere for a casual munch or formal dining.

I visited here with about fifteen of my colleagues from Oxfam for our Christmas lunch and it was fantastic. The food was hearty, well-cooked, and certainly delicious. The service was cheerful and kind, and I thought the atmosphere was calm and very inviting. No one in our party was complaining and we've been talking non-stop about it since. I sincerely recommend it.

Hubby and I ate here on Friday night, prior to his running in the Ultra the next day. We both ordered the special of Caledonian chicken. This was chicken breast with haggis and a creamy mushroom sauce. Chips and salad came too. We both had huge portions. Chicken was very tasty and the sauce wasn’t heavy at all. Lots of lovely mushrooms. French fries were tasty and the salad had a delicious crunchy topping. I could have eaten the salad all night. Will definitely return to la cantina. Lovely food, good value and super service from our servers.

We as party of (10) booked at short notice to eat at this restaurant in the early evening and everybody enjoyed the freshly prepared food and.the ambience and staff are worth a mention also. I would recommend this restaurant to my family and friends.

Visited here during the Cowal Gathering weekend and was really pleasantly surprised. Firstly, we hadn’t booked and this is probably one of the busiest weekends of the year. Nevertheless, they made space for us, and told us up front it was really busy so they may be slower than normal.

My partner and I visited la cantina for dinner last night, food was fantastic, the lamb meatballs were the best I have ever had. The house wine was lovely and the service was great. Highly recommended will definetly be back for another visit when are back in Dunoon

I've been lucky enough to spend time and live in several places across the world including the USA. La Cantina is genuinely my favourite place to eat.

I took my family in for a meal I had cod and my kids had kids meals and ice cream. The cod was amazing and a great all round experience would recommend it

Quite possibly the chef hadn't turned up that night or was lying drunk somewhere through the back, there can only be an excuse like that for what was possibly one of the worst meals out we have experienced. If I could mark them as minus 5 star I would. Poor service, worse food. On a group booking they knew when we'd be there they still took over an hour to serve starters, and then it looked as though the toast on my bruschetta had actually been cooking for the full hour. Completely black as a chunk of coal they'd tried to disguise it with a large lump of cheese rather than simply making a new toast. When taken back to the kitchen I was then presented with a replacement of a piece of garlic bread with the same cheese that had been scraped off the first attempt. Some of our group were presented a seafood pasta so tough nd eh eared it could have been used as bouncy balls, completely inedible. The pizza was a slimy slab of oily wafer which resembled pizza only in so much as it was flat and round. Fortunately most food wasn't charged for but by the time we'd been served it was too late to go elsewhere so most of the group left unhappy and hungry. Terrible

we Visit La Cantina reasonably regularly and are never disappointed. My recent visit was no different. VAried menu offering plenty of options. Food cooked to order and cooked well! Staff were pleasent and attentive. Dishes were well presented and very tasty. I happily recommend La Cantina and it wont be long until i am back for more.

this is a restaurant, serving 'Italian style' food - end off garlic mushrooms as a starter, very average indeed, masked by based breadcrumbs to add some extra flavour pizza was "OK' although overpowered by the dried Oregano on top Fifes tenderly pork, was not tender and the cause was like water my sons rib eye was "OK', and was cooked correctly the staff were nice enough, but if i was to give it a score as an italian restaurant, idea give it a 4. Seriously, i don't know what standards the other review work to, but from someone who eats out a lot, this is very, very average

We went to the la cantina for the second time having visited last here when visiting a friend, the meal again was excellent and good value

He estado yendo a La Cantina durante más de una década, desde que era de alrededor de 8 y siempre será mi restaurante favorito! Mi familia y vienen a Dunoon sólo para mi favorito - tagliatelle al 3.3.0 - es la pasta con pollo a la barbacoa. Tan delicioso! Mi padre incluso ha viajado abajo y vaya a ir para mi madre y que me encanta mucho. No haber sido en un tiempo, pero no puedo esperar a volver un montón este verano!

We went to La Cantina on impulse, we had the most lovely salads on a very warm evening, We were stuffed full , the food was really tasty the staff were very friendly and the food came quite quickly. We enjoyed it very much.

El restaurante italiano está situado en la planta baja de un pub/American Diner que también ofrece bar-comida y aperitivos ligeros que parece ser muy popular. La planta baja es un entorno cálido y acogedor. No sé si es un chef italiano o propietarios, pero es la mejor comida italiana que he probado fuera de Italia. Está bien de precio para la calidad.

Visitamos por primera vez para la cena de Nochevieja, y realmente lo disfruté. La comida era adorable, excelente servicio y precios muy razonables, incluso nos dieron un cortesía un licor al final de la comida.

It would be easy to miss this fabulous restaurant if you were not aware of it. I have eaten in La Cantina on a number of occasions and each time it did not disappoint. The food is delicious and there is a good choice on the menu. It has a relaxing and cosy atmosphere, and prices are reasonable.Would definitely recommend.

The meal we ate here was pretty good and we were given a warm welcome. The upstairs restaurant seemed busier than the part we were in. Unfortunately we were a little put off by the cleanliness of the toilets.

A hidden gem situated on the main St under another restaurant 51st state.Only had mains on this visit. Freshly prepared as advertised they did take a good few minutes to arrive. But when they did wow! They were amazing. The best carbonara ever and an extra spicy cray fish and prawn fettuccini.Will defiantly be back next visit to Dunoon

This is by far the best restaurant in Dunoon along with its sister restaurant situated upstairs the 51st state. It has a great variety on the menu, a lovely setting for all occasions. I've witnessed birthdays, retirements and even hen parties fine here! Staff are always on point with your food and deliver great customer service. Food is outstanding every single time. I couldn't not offer a 5 star rating to this restaurant!

I visited this restaurant with high expectations to be sadly disappointed. I took my kids as they wanted pizza and macaroni. I ordered the chilli bowl for myself, when it came it was a greasy crispy taco and inside there was salad, and underneath the salad there was about 2 spoons of chilli, pretty bland and no heat at all. I instantly felt disappointed and ripped off for £8.50. The kids pizza was barely 6 inch and was thin, barely had any cheese or tomato and was like chewing a piece of cardboard. The macaroni looked like it came out a tin with zero taste. Complete total rip off 23 quid, didn't even stay for dessert. I will never eat here again ever. Prison food is probably better.

We found this restaurant by chance after a day out and on our way back to catch the ferry. What a fantastic restaurant with amazing food and great service. We were on a weeks holiday from Essex and this was by far our best meal. Gorgeous.

Went for family dinner early on a Saturday evening. We were the only ones in, but the restaurant quickly filled up. Drinks orders were taken quickly, and food menus given. Good varied selection in menu, and tastes to suit all. Orders were soon taken, and our starters arrived soon afterwards. Everyone enjoyed their starters, and our main courses were not long in arriving. Comments from round the table were complementary as soon as the plates were placed. A couple of comments were that their courses were far superior to recent one they had at Frankie and Benny's, and they also tasted far better. Two of the meals were that generous, that we asked for "doggie bags" to take them away. Only two of us could manage some ice cream afterwards, but a good sweet selection was available. This must be one of the top restaurants in the area, if not, the top one. Well worth a visit, and always good food, and service. P.S. Their milkshakes are to die for, and the steaks are also great. Specials are available. P.P.S. I don't work there, and not related to anyone at the restaurant

Really liked this restaurant, waitress was very friendly and attentive. I had the pesto stuffed chicken with tagliatelle which was perfect. The menu was very large and had a wide selection of choice, you also got offered Parmesan and black pepper which you normally do at a tradition Italian which was a very nice touch. I couldn't help myself but order one of tinge desserts, a lot of them looked very tempting. I eventually picked the toffee and apple pie which I have to say has been one of the best desserts I have had on a long time.

Despite visiting Dunoon once a year for the last ten, I've only ever eaten at the Indian places. Seeing as the Bombay is now shut, it seemed like a good idea to try something new and looking at the website this seemed a lovely a wee place. It's quite odd in that you have to go through another restaurant to get to it but it's worth finding. We both had pizzas which were really rather good but it was the starter that really stood out - baked aubergine. As a major fan of melanzane alla parmigiana, this was right down my street and perfectly executed. Good, attentive staff too and makes me wonder why I hadn't been sooner.

Good is all I'm afraid. It was a definite 4 stars until the spaghetti vongole arrived with clams from a jar! Not what we were expecting. As I said though apart from that it was good. The portions were very large and the staff were great.

We visited La Cantina whilst on holiday at a nearby holiday park. We had an excellent experience. We were warmly welcomed and served drinks quickly. We waited a little while for our food but it was worth the wait, our food was delicious (and it does state on the menu that all dishes are cooked to order and so a short wait is to be expected) We ordered a range of pasta dishes, steak, pizza and garlic bread and it was all freshly cooked, piping hot and we all served at the same time ....not something that always happens when there are six of you! I can't recommend this place enough, our meal here was the most enjoyable night of our break in Dunoon. If we are in the area again, we'll certainly return.

Been there a few times now.51st State is upstairs an excellent place to eatTex-Mec, burgers ets.AllFreshly cooked and you can get take away.Downstairs is more of an Italian theme,lovely food again.You can order from either menu if you are in a group and sit wherever.The staff are really nice and friendly and service is good..Great chef.

Only had main course but it was very nice. Tagliatelle with barbecued chicken. Also asked for another main and asked for gluten free pasta. Waitress was ever so helpful and we were given loads of choice from the menu that could be offered gluten free. The meal which arrived was tasty and the pasta perfectly cooked. The decoration in the restaurant is a bit tired and in need of a revamp, but overall very satisfied with our evening.

Lovely atmosphere and courteous, attentive staff - Tommy and Fiona. We both had Lamb Shank which was superb. I'm not keen on mint so mine was thoughtfully served with a plain, but delicious, gravy. Pinot Grigio so good we had 2 bottles! Highly recommended.

We ate in this restaurant on Saturday night 7th November. We both had prawn cocktail starter.Plenty prawns and lovely fresh salad. I had melt in the mouth lamb shank on a bed of mash potatoes with carrots. My husband had ribeye steak.He said it was delicious. The service was good and the staff friendly. Would definitely recommend you eat here when in Dunoon.

Just got back from visiting this eating place, and I can honestly say give it a miss, not many eating establishments in Dunoon so we picked this place my wife had pasta and I had a Chilli beef burger, after a long wait (and there wasn't many in) and a visit down stairs to the toilets which we dirty and in need of a complete refurbishment and opposite the open kitchen,which cannot be Right! Our food came, my wife was missing the sun dried tomatoes and my chilli burger came in a bun in it was a ordinary burger with chilli con carni poured on top which in turn to the all burger in to a mile of mush, when the waitress came round and asked me was it ok I tolded her no it wasn't and then she turned round and said well what do you expect in a awfull manner and was quite rude and this how they have always done them, I left the whole meal and will definitely not go back and would advise anybody not to eat here Avoid!

Had dinner here on sunday 13th. Food is amazing will be back. Staff are very helpfull and know the menu well as everything was explained to us.

Absolutely shocking lunch, how anyone can ruin Nachos is beyond me. Piping hot plates, cold tortilla chips, cold "Hot chicken" and melted microwaved cheese. On top of that the staff could care less. Avoid anything to eat here.

Four of us had a lovely meal here. It was quite early so we were on our own but the atmosphere was still good and the waitress was very nice. We will come again.

This is a great place to go if you visit Cowal Argyll it's on the main argyll street basement of 51st State reasturant, a wide choice of Italian food ,the food is plentiful and nicely presented. The staff are friendly courteous and go out there way to accommodate requests there is access for disabilities although parking is limited reasonable priced well worth a visit but worth booking in advance .Popular with the local community .

Dined in La Cantina on a wet stormy evening on 1st May. Both the food and the staff were warm and welcoming. The menu was extensive offering a good mix of Italian, Mexican and American style burgers all freshly prepared. This was our first time eating here but we would not hesitate to return. Many thanks for a lovely evening.

Food was good. I started with the duck parcels which were on special and partner had the crayfish tail which were slightly over cooked, but better that than under, but very tasty. Chicken alla massalla for main for me which was good, although could have been better with sauté as opposed to boiled new potatoes for me. Partner had the balsamic glazed beef which was excellent.Wine was a Malbec which was ok and the wine list offered a number of good alternatives.Staff were excellent.All very enjoyable.

The decor is very old-fashioned, but don't let that put you off. Waiter was quick to get us seated, and the menu was extensive. I had 'special' grilled sardines to start (yum!) and very pleased that kitchen staff were happy to serve our main courses as 50:50 pizza/pasta (saves swapping over plates half-way). Wine was simple but tasty and all very reasonably priced. The '51st State' upstairs (burger bar- part of the same business) was much busier but 'La Cantina' was exactly what we were looking for. Hope we'll be back next time we visit Dunoon.
