Kuti's in Southampton

Walked in hungry, left feeling right Chicken biryani moist, garlic naan light Bengali lamb shank stole the show, falling apart, so tender yk. But the lamb in the biryani was a bit tough, seasoning was good but it needed more love. The mood was chill, the price was fair, we had plenty to spare.

Amazing Service and Delicious Food! We had the pleasure of being looked after by Brother Fahim and his team, His attentiveness and care were exceptional, ensuring we felt welcomed and well taken care of throughout our time. The food was absolutely lovely – flavorful, well-prepared, and clearly made with love. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Thank you, Brother Fahim, for such outstanding service! Everything was great. The one thing they need to work out is their parking situation. No one could give me a clear answer on wether you needed to pay for parking or if because you were a paying customer you were covered. The Hyderabadi lamb was dream. Big up to Rimon (I think that's how you spell) who looked after us. Top tier customer service.

The pier in Southampton has always been an important landmark and venue, so it deserves to continue to be an amazing culinary destination. The food was absolutely amazing from the delightfully piquant seekh kebab starters to the superbly tasty mains (I was very impressed with the Murgh Malabar!). The service was impeccable. We will return with friends very soon!

Had dinner here in December prior to our cruise, the food was excellent along with the service. We even got a guided tour by the owner of the historic building which was a nice surprise. Looking forward to coming back again in June

Had a meal at De Ja Vu this evening and the food was amazing, service was perfect and lovely waiters too. Faheem took us and showed us the building and told us his plans for DeJa Vu going forward. Held our christmas office party here last week. Everything was brilliant. The waiters looked after us well, and the food was so YUMMY. Great food, great venue, great staff. Thank you team dejavu for a wonderful evening.

Not the best experience I've had at an Indian restaurant, and quite possibly the worst. We were sat by friendly gentleman, and quickly given poppadoms for appetizers, but they then must've forgotten to take our drink order as they did not come to take them until well after the appetizers were eaten. Then they took our orders... But only took the curry order not our rice or sides. They then walked back and said other people on our table had ordered our rice for us and when I questioned him he gave a rude response "what so you want more mushroom rice" very odd way of taking orders. The setting was fairly dead, about 4 other seated tables in there so there was no need for a poor service. Lastly the urinals had a big bucket full of urine underneath it, I went to the toilet twice in my visit and it could've been changed in this time. Highly unlikely I'll visit again.

Super tasty food was dining on my own because I’ve missed red funnel and they were super friendly nice and chatty and the food was great and very reasonably priced 10 out of 10 recommend

It was unplanned weekend visit to Kutis. Actually we opted it because some other restaurant we tried was full. But it was worth visiting and dining at Kutis with family and friends. Since it was weekend, almost all tables were occupied., but they arranged a table that fit us all together. Less waiting time compared to other restaurants in weekends. Quantity was good enough for the money. All items were good and taste will bring us to North part of India. Beverage section has also good menu options.

Food is an absolute best!!! I love it. Service was okay, but it was much better couple of years ago. Music was too loud and not Indian enough.

We visited this restaurant with our family while we were on holiday from Australia in August 2024. It was the summer bank holiday weekend and that Sunday it was a cold windy day. There were 10 of us and the evening started off okay but got worse as the restaurant got busier. We had to ask several times for the door to be closed as it was very cold inside. The waiters kept on taking the serviettes & cutlery away and we had to keep asking for them back! We also had to keep asking for our drinks as that seemed to be forgotten. Also the service was very slow. The food was mediocre at best. The curry sauces all tasted the same. My husband had the Tandoori Mixed Grill and we took some leftover food home and to our dismay the chicken was uncooked! We asked for 2 Irish Coffees at the end of the meal only to be told that the wait would be a while as the machine was not working. We eventually got the coffees and I did not even finish mine as it was the worst Irish Coffee I ever had. The inside of the restaurant needs a bit of TLC as well. Overall it was very disappointing (not to mention expensive) and we will not be going back there again.

It's really lovely food. I had a lamb rezela, keema rice and a cheese nann. Loved it and will revisit when next in Southampton.

Nice but why do they charge £24.95 for dishes that costs £12 everywhere else?

Would leave 6 stars if I could! Very reasonable prices and huge portions. Great flavours, attentive staff, love the decoration and atmosphere.

Me and my husband went for the first time to Kutis for our 7 year wedding anniversary and we were amazed by how beautiful the restaurant is but not only that. The staff were incredible! They made sure we were comfortable, kept checking on us without making us feel uncomfortable, the food was amazing too! Everything tasted so fresh and they even ask us if we wanted to take the rest home and gave us free chocolate. We will definitely be coming back 🤩

First time I been kutis in few years so was so excited…… but omg was sooooooooo disappointed….. curry was like a ready made coop curry…lamb was fatty and tough……. Nan bread dry and nasty……. Never again will I go there….. prices are bad for the quality…… service very slow……. They had a magician…. He was the best part of the evening…… the bill was £100 such a waste of money we we were gutted!!!!!!! And top it off my son has woke up with bad stomach cramps and diarrhoea!!!!!!

Awful service with uncooked food. Got refund for starters. Ran out of beer. Generally terrible used to be so much better. Shame must of changed management.

Having been a number of times with work as 70 mile round trip from home hadn't been for a year or so. However having been back on the weekend for a family celebration meal was pleased to say service and food is as good as ever. Staff were friendly and attentive and food came quickly and was all spiced exactly as requested with great flavours. Many thanks for an enjoyable evening.

Would never go again food was so bland even though we asked for more spicier food. Charged me £5 for a bottle if water. Food was so sub standard. If you are of ethnic background and understand taste and smell then you know if it is cooked properly. I am even going to tell my friends never go herë. My daughter had graduated so we went to celebrate she was deeply upset. Never go here we wasted over £130 herë. All they could say we will chat to the chef. The chef should have been given the sack.

We entered the rstaaurant and watched a men standig and talking on mobile phone for 5 min ignoring us. We left hungry searching for another restaurant 🤦🏼‍♂️

Historic building. Had vegetarian dishes plus nan. Full with a mix of locals and tourists. Recommended.

Booked table for 8:15 got there early and and was showed to table. Could not fault the service and was really made welcome by all the staff. Food was spot on could not fault. Would definitely go again when were next in Southampton. Prices very reasonable

Fantastic food, excellent service.

Had a table of 20 of us and the food was good but the portions for the price was ridiculous. £15 for a lamb korma in a small bowl with only 4 dices of lamb. The canopy area was disappointingly closed and very messy the bonus was the sun beaming in. Smelt a mixture of cleaning products and damp when you walk in. For a place that looks like a palace outside it definitely needs TLC but none the less the staff were very nice and friendly and service was great but I probably wouldn’t go here again.

£19 FOR A BRIYANI!???!!! WTH DAY AND NIGHTTIME ROBBERY

We had a table booked for 18:30. By 18:45 no drinks orders had been taken so some people went up to the bar to order (which was also very slow). Appetisers arrived 19:00. Orders taken for mains 19:10 (menu was small and expensive). Mains arrived 20:15 !!! Just a total lack of staff. Weird flashing lights felt tacky. Strange music. Won’t be returning.

Still very good but a bit less than it was before Covid. Music still ok. The dishes are smaller the taste still ok, but the waiting for the servers a bit too long even knowing the place was moderately busy. But still recommend to visit if you want to spoil yourself or your guests.

Everything took for ever. Ages to order drinks, ages for drinks to come. Ages to order food, needed two reminders to bring entrees. Took forever to clear away table. Mains weren't too bad. Ordered more drinks, didn't come. Took over 2 hours. Spoke to Maitre D who said they were 2 chefs down. I said would have been better to tell us that at beginning rather than let us believe restaurant was rubbish.

Best Indian restaurant. The food, pricing and customer service is exquisite and has a wonderful atmosphere in such a beautiful building. I would highly recommend this restaurant for couples and large groups. Thankyou kutis ❤️

We stumbled upon the place whilst looking for somewhere to park during the boat show so that we could see the Red Arrows. Kutis gave us a VIP space. Dave (security) gave us (my daughter and I) a tour of the place. We met Mr Kuti. Instantly felt welcomed. Decided to stay and have lunch and that was that. Have been 4 times since. The service is always attentive, polite, charming. Extra shout out to the lady who’s probably head waiter? She’s always very cool, top service and deserves an extra special mention. Excellent staff experience 5 out of 5. The food is delicious. Good prices. The tandoori mixed grill is the best I’ve ever had in the UK. Enough for 2 people. Chicken and lamb are super tender. Prawn better than I have in Thailand. Main dishes we’ve had Tika Massala, Balti, Butter Chicken and always been exceptionally good. Creamy, tender, super tasty with great textures. Top chef. 5 out of 5. Restaurant atmosphere always good. It gets busy sometimes so book in advance but we’ve always got seats at short notice and again, 5 out of 5 fun relaxed experience. I’ve lived in London for 25 years, New York for 3, eaten all over the place at some of the finest establishments. I’ve been to top rated Tandoori restaurants in Delhi. I’ve directed videos for some of the finest restaurants in the UK, I’ve eaten all around Brick Lane and the East End for 25 years and I have to say, Kuti’s is my favourite restaurant at the moment. A Southampton legend clearly built on a commitment to sustained quality. Well done team Kuti’s.

First time for a long time that iv had a meal at kuti's and all I can say is I wish I'd returned sooner as the meal I had was the best Indian meal iv ever had . I will definitely book to go there again in the near future .

Came here for dinner. Haven’t been for a few years. Am a bit disappointed if I’m being honest as service wasn’t too great as very slow for some reason. Waited a long time for menus and then when we asked for the bill it took a long time. It wasn’t as if there was lots of people in the restaurant and there were plenty of staff. Very odd. The food was overpriced in my honest opinion. Mains were around £14.95 on average and you had to get rice separate from the main. Pricey if I’m being honest.

Have always loved visiting Kutis, been coming here for years for special occasions! Myself and my family adore Mr Kuti, he is always the perfect host. Always dresses in a snazzy suit too! You feel like family at this restaurant, staff were so quick, efficient, friendly and upbeat. Food was delicious as always, best Indian restaurant in Southampton by far! Well worth a visit, if booking in advance, definitely request a booth as it has the best feel while you have dinner.

10 to dine for late lunch - range of mains and wine, £400 ish. Post the Soton Boat show, there is nowhere else local open at this time. The staff were excellent, the food is always reasonable but never a meal you walk away thinking - WOW - busy so a good atmosphere. Wine list is moderate. This is easy dining. No surprises, good service, nice people. You will leave thinking that was all OK.

Absolutely amazing, the service and food was different class.

Excellent Indian food. Unfortunately the desi curry was not available but the lamb shank was excellent. The menu would benefit from more dishes which contain chicken on the bone, but otherwise superb. The naan bread was delicious. Also, the lamb dishes contain lamb, not beef. This is unlike many other, less scrupulous curry restaurants.

Starters was good and it looked like it would be a lovely meal. Nothing further from truth. Different waiter came to take our order. Grumpy older, short man with glasses. I ordered 3 vegetarian curries set. I asked that one would be paneer and spinach. He said its ok. When it arrived I didnt get what i wanted. Curries were awful. Like if someone stir fried pepers and onions and threw it in a sauce. They were hardly cooked. All three were bad and I didnt eat any. The waiter didnt come back to check on us during a whole meal. Terrible experience.

Visited with friends (our curry night group). What a wonderful eating experience. I can't fault the food, service or ambiance, all are first rate. The waiters were very well turned out and couldn't do enough to help. Tonight was a return visit. If anything, it was better than our first visit, which was outstanding.

Delicious curry, my favourite in Southampton, but the location at the Pier is not as nice as the old Oxford Street location - it could do with some interior renovation. That said, the food itself was excellent. I had the Lamb Thali and all selections were delicious and a good variety. The size was generous and appreciated too! Service was very good too, and we enjoyed our meal and look forward to returning next time we’re back in Southampton.

Try the Desi chicken... Real Indian chicken stew your mother used to make ... If she was Indian. Very family friendly.

Still the best curry I’ve had south of Bradford. Kuti’s is still the original and best in my opinion.

The restaurant was empty, and still they asked us to leave in 45 minutes. how can we finish our 2 course meals in 35 minutes 😫. Ended up our orders to take away.

Excellent Indian, we were met at the door by a chief who was preparing a sample dish just outside - it was excellent. Service was good, food was excellent. Very casual dress.

Its easy to just click a star to rate the food. It really, really is good though. Very good value for money too. When you think most places offer a burger and a measily handful of chips for £12.50(or more in the new forest), Kuti's offers a dinner for a similar price with enough food you want to book a taxi back to your car. Why would you get the rot burger and chips?

Ambience: 1. Place is fancy. But its gets quite noisy at time which ruins the experience of dining. 2. Placing for tables were very inconvenient and in close proximity of other tables. Gentleman at the table behind us kept hitting back on my chair each time he get up or got back to his chair. No offence towards him as distance between both chairs were so close i could stretch my arms and take food off his plate. Which also has a drawback of privacy. As guests are made to sit so close to each other that you end up overhearing each other's conversations unintentionally. Big turn off. Service: Not upto the mark with respect to the status and stature of the restaurant. 1. At first, table where we were seated was broken, it had a tilt towards one end. Quite annoying. 2. Ordered double whiskey with water for first round. And when requested for drinks repeat, they gave me whiskey with soda (which they charged me). Shows how attentive their wait staff was towards their customer order. 3. Ordered a portion of rice, which came with no serving spoon. They had spoon on the table for personal use which they expect guest to self serve from the bowl which is still ok, but when same portion is shared by 2 individual you wouldn't want to dig your personal spoon in a common rice container specially when you are taking second serving. And when a serving spoon was requested, wait staff picked up spoon from adjacent table and gave it. Least expected from a restaurant of such stature. 4. Wait staff wasn't attentive towards customer. Completed our food and had to wait for good 10 mins if not less for someone to clear our plates. However at same time staff were busy securing/staking unused cutleries from vacant tables. Indicates staff just wants to rush back home at the mark of the hour and not pay attention to the guest present in the restaurant. 4. On a positive note, staff were friendly and engaging towards guest. Food: Average. Rice was undercooked and veggies wasn't upto the mark considering the price tag of each portion was high. Restaurant needs to improve on many aspects. Disappointed.

Kuti's came highly recommended as the best Indian restaurant in Southampton. I visited with family and friends, unfortunately cannot say it lived up to our expectations. Location, building and ambiance and service are the positive bits. Food, drinks and dessert were all very basic same as any average Indian restaurant. Butter chicken and chicken vindaloo had dry chunks of chicken with no marinade or taste inside. Didn't expected potatoes in vindaloo either. Mojito had appetizer rather than sparkling lemonade which completely changed the taste. Pina colada was mostly coconut milk with very little pineapple juice and I have never seen a pina colada with a slice of Mango on the glass. Naan was average, kulcha was good and so was the gulab jamun. For a good restaurant quality food and taste is important rest all is secondary, unfortunately Kuti's has a lot to catchup on.

Amazing food, great flavours, genuine service, portions were perfect sizes and very fast service, good atmosphere and setting by the sea front, 10/10 would recommend anyone to come here, you will enjoy it

We loved our evening here, for a start what an amazing building and it's just as lovely inside Lots of choice, some nice speciality dishes as well as the staple curries we all know so something for everyone Loved how the poppadoms were served and have to mention the Peshwari naan which was sooo good I had a vegetable biryani... My usual and it was delicious Really enjoyable evening

Had a large family gathering here for a special birthday (21st) the restaurant staff were very accommodating and well prepared so everyone had a great experience and would recommend!

First the positives! The history of the building and ambience really are special and the initial service when first arriving is excellent however the food although good isn't as outstanding as i would expect for the price. The madras was lacking in depth and delicacy of flavour and the naan bread was very disappointing as was ridiculously thin, literally the same thickness as a chapatti! The other issues were that some of the prices were more than stated on the current online menu which is somewhat misleading and I was constantly asked if I was "finished" (4 times within an hour and a half) which seemed unnecessary as the restaurant was only 50% full so felt as if I was being rushed to leave which isn't really conducive with a relaxed dining experience particularly when paying high tier prices. Overall was OK but don't think I ll be going back.

Absolutely great food! We enjoyed eating here. Unfortunately, there was an issue with the device for electronic payments, and they had us try with multiple cards from multiple banks. We were reassured that we would be reimbursed if the amount was paid multiple times. After returning to Belgium, we found out that the amount was paid twice. Kuti denied repeatedly to reimburse the money. We had to file a complaint through the credit card company (and got our money back). This leaves a very sour aftertaste, as a tourist.

Didn't eat here so just commenting that the building itself is stunning and worth a visit.
