I ordered online and I was really disappointed. I could see that the food had the potential to be great, however, we only received 2 tiny packets of soy sauce (about a tablespoon each) to go with 16 pieces of sushi and you would think the staff would understand that everybody likes a soy sauce dipping. The Miso soup was so plain and flavourless compared to other Japanese restaurants in the area, only one got eaten out of 3 soups. I’ll stick to Sakura from now on. I’m giving the 3 stars because the sushi was lovely but it doesn’t hit the spot without the soy sauce!

I went here with my teenage son for a birthday meal, he has fairly adventurous tastes so thought we'd try something different as we'd not been for Japanese cuisine before. We dined early on a Thursday evening and the restaurant was quiet, service was friendly and very prompt. As we'd not tried much Japanese food before I asked the waitress for some tips and she recommended the sushi sharing platter which was a smart move, and we also had an unagi don (grilled eel) dish for the main, with squid rings for starter. It was somewhat hilarious watching my son grappling with the chopsticks, but he managed the squid rings in the end which were delicious, and the mains were very good too - some really interesting things on the menu that I'd like to try on a second visit! Dessert was mochi, I had passion fruit and mango, my son had salted caramel, again both were lovely. We had a great time here and I'd love to visit again.

Fantastic authentic Japenese Restaurant, beautiful atmosphere and staff. You can tell that there is a lot of love and care put into the food! Highly reccomend if you want to know what Japenese food should taste like. Was pleasently surprised by the price too!

Incredible to find an authentic Japanese restaurant in the middle of Fareham! Excellent food from Japanese staff, and reasonable prices. Almost empty on both occasions we visited - hope it survives!

Outstanding sushi again. Such a great restaurant.

If I could give 3.5 stars, I would. The food is excellent, and the servers were wonderful. However, our experience was marred by a small issue. Our party of ten requested additional chili oil, which usually comes free with the sushi. Given the size of our group and the long table, the two small portions provided (about four tablespoons total) were insufficient. Despite spending nearly £450, we were told by a young server that any extra chili oil would incur a charge, as per the kitchen's instructions. This felt unreasonable, considering the negligible cost of the chili oil. This minor incident slightly lowered our overall rating.

Love the sushi board (platter C I think) where you can try many different things in one without having to order lots of little bits. Fish is very fresh and top quality ☺️ only thing is it's a little cold in there! Cannot recommend the set enough

Brilliant restaurant, picked due to it's good Google reviews, but now I understand why! I've not been prompted in any way to leave a review, but I felt I must. We had a table of 9, and the restaurant were nothing but accomodating. There was something for everyone, including the vegetarian and the one that didn't like sushi! The food was fresh and came out very timely. Service was brilliant, and the pricing was very reasonable. Our group are planning to go back again, when we are next all in town!

Utter disappointment after having this place recommended. Finally a Japanese restaurant announced itself in Fareham but it has nothing to do with Japanese food.. Pros: -Design and atmosphere Nice looking place, playing nice calm music, the furniture is new and the place has a nice Asian decor -The staff is not unnice That's about it.. Cons: -Food Total disappointment, bland in taste and overpriced for what you get. We got chicken skewers, tempura shrimp and the B 22 piece sushi set. It took forever to get the food even though there was almost no one at the restaurant. The yakitori had barely any meat on them, somehow managed to hold to the skewer and barely had any taste. The meat had barely any flavour which was assisted by the sauce. Tempura looked and tasted like it came frozen from a supermarket.. The 22set consisted of california rolls and volcano rolls, 6 nigiri and cucumbers maki. Having a lot of sushi this was the final nail to the coffin for the whole dinner. The idea of volcano rolls is to either shape it like a volcano or have something look like it's coming from the roll. Here it was a plain roll with fried salmon on top. Nigiri had no wasabi but at least wasn't all rice. The whole thing was bland and there was a tiny bit of wasabi and ginger to the side of it. -Service Non existent, staff was kind of nice but did not care whatsoever. When we asked about an item on the menu the staff was not sure about what it was. We got the first two sides within okay time but it took forever just to get the 22 pieces. No one checked on us or the food throughout the whole time we were there and in the middle of our stay our waitress finished her shift and making us wait forever to be noticed by someone else. The waitresses were just standing by the bar and chatting and when finally someone came they spoke to us while chewing gum.. You pay 10% service charge on top of your purchase which is a joke for the kind of service they offer. I would not take my Asian friends there or recommend it to anyone after spending £60 pounds to get a pizza on my way home..

By far one of the best Japanese restaurants we have been to. The food was delicious and so very fresh, the atmosphere was brilliant and the staff that looked after us during the visit were fantastic and very attentive. As soon as we came to the table the staff asked if we had any dietary requirements which is something you don't really get anymore with other restaurants, so that was a nice little thing to have for people that need it. We ordered quite a lot and were pleasantly surprised with the speed the food came out. I would say it was actually faster than fast food places, but with each dish, every care and attention was made to make sure it looked perfect. We will definitely be going back again in the future. The price for all the food we got was excellent too and definitely reasonable. I highly recommend Kumo. They have done excellently!

We had a wonderful meal with incredible fresh ingredients prepared at the time of the order. This did create long waits for food, the service could be more attentive I.e. they left finished plates on the table for a long period of time and forgot a dish. Overall we would recommend it and we will be back!

We went to Kumo as a end of half term treat for the kids, the first thing that stood out to me was authenticity, daruma dolls on the counter and other decor really made the front of the place feel welcoming, I was worried because I had (fussy!) kids but the staff helped us find things they were likely to enjoy and try. Towards the back the restaurant has a very classy garden area. Foodwise, the cooking is amazing. It's incomparable to chains, and it was clear that the staff all work well together, the chef prepared our food with kids in mind and went out of their way to present it in a way that was potentially more enticing to kids. This place clearly can (and does) cater to families and those who are looking for a nice place for a date. I'll definitely be going back!

Cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Clean, friendly, efficient and the food is amazing. You won't regret your visit here.

That was fabulous! Smashing mix of starters and my teriyaki chicken don was sublime! The staff are great too. So I'd recommend Kumo to anyone either new to Japanese food or very experienced, it's delicious ❤️

This place is well worth a visit. The food was really good. Presentation of the food was excellent. The decor looked great. It was a midweek lunchtime so only 1 other couple in it. I would worry how long it will stay open for in Fareham. Please visits so it stays. My only disappointment was the service. Not that great pretty flat really. Didn’t show much enthusiasm considering we were the only ones left. And an automatic 10% service charge for doing their job. If I was given the choice I wouldn’t have given a tip as nothing special. I wonder if that was then the case would the waitress have tried a little harder to impress. But besides that go for the food. It’s well worth it

I tried the Kumo roll recently and I haven't stopped thinking about it, it's SO delicious !!! I am not the biggest fan of sushi in general but this was unlike anything I've tried before, it was a mix of a perfect flavour AND a perfect bite with the crunch from the cucumber along with the delicious fillings and rice 😍 10/10 recommend, also the portion sizes are really good, especially for the ramens which I've tried before as well!

We visited this restaurant for my daughters birthday and the food was incredible,the freshest fish,we had starters edamamé,tempura prawns, salt and pepper chicken wings and the octopus. Mains we had 2 platters for 4-5 people ( we're greedy 😂) they were so accommodating with allergies and made changes to the platters. Birthday girl received a lovely starter dish as well. We will definitely be frequenting this restaurant in the future. I can't thank the staff and chefs enough for the lovely food and service.

If you want an unusual experience this is a good place to go. Enjoyed the food. Not so keen on Saki. Loads of choice. The lady who served us was very friendly and helpful. 1 critism could have been a bit warmer.

The on ly thing that I felt could have made the experience better would have been more heating, the place was really cold. The service was excellent, and our waitress explained all the food options and different types of Saki. The food was great. We will definitely be going back

First time I have tried Japanese food, and really enjoyed it. It's not just about sushi. Went with friends and everyone enjoyed their meal. The only downside was that the main courses were not all brought out together.

Just visited Kumo in Fareham for a birthday treat for my husband. Visited with my daughter, son in law and granddaughter. What a fabulous meal! Staff were so lovely and went the extra mile to make it an extra special night. Food was superb and very reasonable prices. We will definitely be returning! Thank you Kumo! October 26 2023.

I don’t usually review places but this restaurant was so lovely I had to rate it. We’ve been searching for a local high quality sushi restaurant for ages and I’m so happy we’ve finally found it. The Ramen was perfect, full of flavour and was a generous portion. My partner loved the Katsu Curry and we both will be back for the Spider Roll. A real gem.

Several years since we’ve had Japanese food, so was good to see a new place opening in Fareham (goodness knows we need some, since several have closed over last 3 years). The place is pleasantly and calmly decorated. Staff helpful & courteous, menu extensive. Was relatively quiet when we visited recently, about 40% full. Food delicious, hot (temperature), knife, spoon & fork available to those of us not adept with chopsticks.

Clean, good food, good service and reasonable prices. They asked on sitting down about any dietary restrictions we have and brought out a list to cover my sons allergies. If you are celebrating or eating out this is a place to consider visiting.

I can’t comment on the atmosphere, as we ordered tonkotsu ramen, spider roll and katsu curry for collection but it was delicious. And the food remained hot and crispy in the 15 mins it took for us to get home. So glad there’s a Japanese takeaway doing ramen in the Fareham area now!

We had a wonderful dinner at kumo this evening. We took the kids and got a platter to share plus a few extra starters and some rice so that we could try something of everything. It was all amazingly good, and very fresh. Staff were really friendly and efficient, and the food was served quickly and delivered in the order it was prepared. I'm very lucky we have found this gem on our doorstep. Now we don't need to go all the way to Winchester for great Japanese food. See you again soon. (Sorry about the photo- noone could wait to get stuck in before I took it! 😂🤦🏻‍♀️)

We've been here a couple of times now and the food is always amazing! It's always so flavorful and the portions are just right too. We usually end up here for lunch and I'm still surprised that these tables aren't filled, with the staff being really friendly and polite to boot. If you haven't eaten here you're missing out! If you've not had Japanese food yet, this is the place to go to get your teeth into the more well known as well as delicious side of the cuisine. Highly recommend

Absolutely delicious restaurant. Really friendly staff. The food is very well presented. The menu is varied and there's a good mix of portion sizes so you can match your order to your appetite. I particularly enjoyed the Unagi Don dish. Please note that my price reflects my appetite tonight and menu choices - it is easily possible to dine for under £15.

We want to try this new restaurant and it is very disappointed. It wasn't busy and the wait for the food was much longer than I expected. The sushi display was very nice but I rather it taste better. It's very normal standard. I love Japanese food and it is not the one for me. The soup of Ramen is served in a lukewarm temperatures and it's not right. The staff was too attentive. With a one course meal, the staff came to the table over 10 times, I felt so under pressure...I understand she tried to be nice but I was trying to enjoy the time with my family. The staff asked some of the questions are not professional at all; can I clear any of your plate please...firstly we are just starting to eat, I was thinking what plate can I give to her? Senconly she can clearly observe by herself and all the plates still have foods.

Let me just take a moment and say WOW! My partner and I went to Kumo as a one off to see how the sushi was and We are never turning back! The food and Atmosphere are both 5 stars but I’m giving the service a 4 purely because I had ordered a different sushi platter and was served/charged a larger platter. That being said, I was still so happy with the quality and taste! Anything that I wasn’t able to eat, they boxed it up for me and it held perfectly the next day! Overall, it is now our favorite sushi and will come again and again!

It was a delayed girlfriend day lunch out. Thanks to my amazing bf😊. Im so Asian, the best treat would be asian food. He found this restaurant as it was highly rated - we had to try it out. That day, I saw the owner come in and I confirmed it was authentic. 😊 ambiance and decor was spot on. Cozy japanese feels. Sleek and dainty. My partner enjoyed his eel (UNAGI DON). He has had eel before but jellied coz British 😅. He said the eel was very delicate, sauce was great, and rice was perfect. The eel was boneless and that made him very happy. I had the shrimps (EBI DON). 5 pieces of battered shrimp, fried til golden brown. It had its own sauce with egg and onion. Dont get me wrong the shrimps very juicy and plump. The batter was not crispy - it was a little bit soggy cause of the sauce. It happens. But the rice was very good. It made me really happy. We got asahi beer coz it just pairs well with rice. 😊🤣🍚🍤🍻 Wonderful experience to dine in here and I am glaf my partner took me here. It is located in Fareham town center. Just go straight to the end and its on the right side. Newly opened. Accepts card payments.

Ordered delivery online and the food was absolutely amazing. The ramen packs the broth separately which I really like. Only downside in my opinion is that there aren't any dessert options and too many sushi options but otherwise amazing!

As appointed 17th January 2023. Nationality Chinese. Fresh made dumplings or hand rolled sushi, fresh wassbi paste.I can not lagimetely confirm. The overheads on the dishes or group servings are good and well balanced. A well presented menu. Offering plentiful choices. I had fresh sushi and tastey ramen. Wasabi paste a first-time shocker. Taste nice as I tip toed carefully through the spice ride of the generous first dollop I used😚. soba, somen, and udon, noodles with a cultured broth, was prepared and came to the table within 20 minutes. Good culture beer £5. All in. Gyoza dumplings, ramen pork bowl , sushi roll, sea food wrap, beer, single dining £42. Would Return 10/10. Treading carefully for those genuine cultured diners. Thank you to the staff and chefs.. very nice.

Food was good, service was terrible, too many mistakes, too long between courses when they finally got it right.

I only ordered from this place on uber eats did not eat from there directly so can only rate the food though do plan on going eventually. But i dare say there food well the ramen i had Tonkatsu Ramen as dont like spicy food it tastes better than the Wagamama version had more flavour despite being slightly smaller portion in all but the noodle part compared. But it was really good shame would be awesome if they offered larger portions for a little more money was so good. Now to the Katsu Pork that tasted really nice lots of flavour nice portion to well worth buying i also got some green tea witch is good to. So to anyone reading this you should give it a go or best yet go there in person witch i will do down the line. Update: went to the actual restaurant other day with my sister and mum was pricy but good my sister got spicy tuna rolls and the chicken teriyaki don though she did say portion seemed a bit small but it was ok. I got some pan fried chicken dumplings i liked them and pork katsu curry was filling and good my mum got the pork katsu curry as well the place looked good to nice atmosphere and staff were nice to. I will say due to the price it will be more somewhere to go now and again not all the time.

Food tasty, but very little meat in the Ramen (two small slices of beef). Tuna sushi nice and Salmon on rice very nice. Drinks very expensive. Staff attentive and always asking how food was or if further drinks needed. Only one loo for entire restaurant? What about those on 1st floor? By far biggest disappointment and what will prevent us going again was the (optional) service charge. When staff asked how much of this charge they got, the reply was "zero". Not one penny to those who had been so attentive. We declined to pay this, but left equivalent as cash, so hopefully it did go to staff (front and back of house) as a service charge should.

It's all perfect, the food is impeccable, the owner and the staff are super friendly and accommodating, and the look of the restaurant with its traditional Japanese art and posters is really nice. Fareham has a real gem now with this restaurant - it's so good we immediately went back the very next day!

When we booked the table for four we asked if they had a gluten free choice and was informed that they did, we arrived got the menu and my wife ordered based on the gluten content file she was given by the waitress eventually after much back and forth to the chef it became evident that the only gluten free choice was peas for starters and then fried rice as a main. The waitress was very apologetic and looked after us very well. when we got the bill i noted the service charge had been added to the bill. i asked the waitress if she got this and she said no. the serice charge goes to the company. I'm sure this is against the law now. I wouldnt recommend it as as this seems grossly unfair to the waiting staff. My food was very nice.

We had the edamame, tempura king prawns, katsu curry and spicy chicken roll. We asked for the roll not to be spicy for the kids and it was perfect! It was all well made and tasted incredible! Such high quality ingredients! I would go back in a heart beat!! So good!! Xx

Fantastic food, good service but silly things let it down. Eg white wine not cold. Nice decor but attention to detail would help. Eg work print on the wood detracts from decor. Will be going back as food excellent. Went out of way to cater for child even though no child menu available.

I’ve been here several times since its first opening, the food is amazing, authentic and some of the best tasting sushi / ramen in the area. I would recommend visiting. Pleasant experience and the waitresses are always polite and courteous. Overall 10/10

The food was outstanding! Everything made fresh to order. Beautiful presentation and high quality ingredients. The service was really good. Really friendly welcoming atmosphere, spotlessly clean and very attentive staff. Our server was called Tash, she went above and beyond to make our evening as special as possible. Nothing was to much trouble, she was very friendly, explained all of our food to us and even sourced some wine by the glass! They only sell sauvignon blanc or a fruity red wine by the glass. I'm not a fan of a sauvignon, unfortunately they don't sell anything else by the glass and the drinks list is limited but Tash organised a glass of pinot by the glass for me which was really kind or I would have had to have had a soft drink so I was very grateful. We had a really lovely evening, I can't recommend this place enough. We will definitely be back soon!

Very nice food, served in a timely manner. I would have liked to have seen some more (non-sushi) rice and noodle dishes on the menu, but where it's a new place, I give them the benefit of the doubt, and assume they're trying things out, before branching out. What we had was well presented, and very tasty. Service was fine, but (constructive criticism) the serving staff could do with being a little more knowledgeable about the dishes, and we weren't offered cutlery, when other tables were. We didn't need it, to be fair, but it was a tiny bit inconsistent. As I say, this is just constructive criticism, and didn't ruin our experience one bit. Very nice, on the whole, and we definitely plan to revisit, and bring others with us. Good luck for the future, Kumo! It's nice to see actual Japanese food in Fareham at last.

Excellent restaurant! Ate here for dinner and had the Chicken Teryaki Donburi and the Special Seafood sushi. Both dishes were excellent and very tasty, and the portion sizes were great. The Sushi was melt in the mouth, the rice was perfectly cooked and the teriyaki chicken was great with the crispy skin. Atmosphere was nice and the staff were friendly and attentive. Overall would highly recommend and will definitely be coming here again!

Fantastic food! I regularly travel to Sakura in Southsea to get decent sushi and Kumo is on par if not better! So glad we now have good quality Japanese food in Fareham. We had the pork katsu curry, unagi don, dragon roll and spider roll (soft shell crab) which were all really delicious. Some teething problems with service but understandable given they have only been open a few days. The quality of food and pleasant staff more than make up for it. I highly recommend them if you want to eat good sushi and Japanese food (not the supermarket stuff).

Being a lover of Japanese cuisine, and finding out a Japanese restaurant was opening in Fareham, I just had to make a visit upon it opening! Having visited today I was so impressed! The atmosphere and decor was amazing! The staff were friendly, the service was quick and the food was very tasty! We went for some starter items and then went for a sharing platter for our main, the presentation was great and as I said previously, the food was very delicious! The bit I disagree with was the 10% service charge, a lot of restaurants do this nowadays and I very much disagree with this practice. It’s one way to put customers off from making future visits. Also for people wishing or planing to visit please take into consideration that drinks/alcoholic drinks are what I would consider quite expensive! Having visited within the initial opening period, being a new restaurant and being impressed with my experience I decided not to challenge the 10% service charge on this occasion but I will challenge it on future visits. However, from what I’m aware of, you can request the service charge to be removed and then contribute your own tip. Saying all that, overall I’m happy with my experience, hence the five stars and I’m so happy something like this has opened within Fareham!

Food was fantastic along with the food looking great and presentable, good portion sizes as well. The wait was a little long for due to online orders but the staff were chatty and friendly. Fareham has been overdue a sushi restaurant so I’m glad Kumo has filled in this necessity and looking forward to visiting more.

I ordered a take away via Deliveroo, the food was ready quickly and I received it in 30 minutes. I ordered the pork bento box, a hand roll & the Takoyaki. All were absolutely delicious, the cold fresh sushi was cold and fresh, and the warm pieces were beautifully cooked. Hoping to get a baby sitter soon so me and my husband can go in person. Truly a delight for Fareham
