I will not recommend this restaurant. I had stomach ache after eating their food. As my stomach is very sensitive to bad quality food, I will avoid this restaurant forever.

Incredible food! We visited here about a month ago and there is an amazing selection of food which is all yummy. Starters and mains were great. There is a large selection of options for vegetarians which is great. Service was lovely. They have also recently started serving at White Cloth Hall in Leeds which I visited yesterday! It was great too see them there and loved all the starters we picked. Great food at a great price.

Went searching for something different this evening after a cinema trip, and found this place via Google. Don't let the outside or the chairs put you off, because the food inside is absolutely fabulous! The Roti Canai was the nicest thing I've eaten recently, and I'd have been very happy to have had a few more orders of that! The portions were good, the food was lovely - though the pandan custard didn't have much of a pandan flavour. The only thing that let it down was feeling rushed out of the door when we were done. Could have done with some time to sit and let our mains go down before getting pudding, and then a little time after pudding to chill. Instead, as soon as the last spoon hit the plate the server was over to chase us on. So perhaps were I to fancy Malaysian food again, I'd order it as a takeaway rather than a sit in.

This was my third time at KL Cafe restaurant, and yet again it did not disappoint. I went for dinner for my birthday meal last night and had a truly lovely time, we had the whole upstairs to ourselves and it really did feel like I had hired out the restaurant. Everyone enjoyed there food and said the atmosphere was lovely, the waitress even turned on the fairy lights for us which added a level of ambience that was truly comforting. The staff as always were so kind, accommodating and simply very sweet-mannered. I think this restaurant is such a hidden gem that most people do not know about, and I think many people lack the experience of Malaysian food, which is truly to die for! Malaysia has such a rich culture, and having travelled to Kuala Lumpur in the summer, I can confidently say that this restaurant does their cuisine the justice it deserves. If you are looking to try something new and explosive with flavour, then give this restaurant a visit and help out a small family owned business!

Excellent Malaysian food! I had Malaysian cuisine often when I lived in Singapore and sometimes visited Malaysia, but I have to say I love the taste of this restaurant most (these food are house-cooked or sold at stalls very cheaply there, so not comparable with this fancy restaurant having the recipes of an awarded chef though)! Beef Rendang, curry, Nasi Lemak... everything is soooo yummy. These surprise you as they go beyond the expectation, and even the menu of drink follows so Malaysia! I wanna go back to this restaurant so much after writing this review.

Heard good things but very very disappointed. The place is simple which I have no problem with but walls inside are dirty and carpet dirt and turning up. We ordered satay to share, never seen it like this but again not a complaint, all four pieces of chicken were burnt black and not at all tasty I ordered Beef Rendang, it was bland and tasteless, no taste of lemongrass as there usually is, the rice somewhere between normal and sticky was just ok. My partner ordered the Lim Curry with Chicken, again very bland although lemongrass was a very predominant taste but none of the mentioned spiceness. The atmosphere is strange, not what I expected, Now Music 115 or something similar. Far better advocates of this kind of food within walking distance. Shame

The reviews are incredibly misleading. If you've had authentic Malaysian food before, prepare to be disappointed. It's more like your bog-standard Indian takeaway, where it has been severely sweetened and simplified for the western palette and is nowhere near the level of what you would expect in London or Manchester. - There was a lot of sugar in the food and the dishes weren't seasoned anywhere near enough to counter how sweet they were. - The vegan beef was incredibly tough. - The chicken in the masak merah wasn't cooked on the bone and seemed to be some pieces of processed / reconstituted chicken. - There were no boiled eggs included in our nasi lemak, which is a pretty integral ingredient to forget. The starters of the tofu sambal and roti canai were okay, however, so that's what the stars are for.

I had previously been to the Kuala Lumpar in Horsforth, so one warm spring evening, I decided to give the one in Headingley a go. Tom kindly brought some BYOB budweisers, which was uncharacteristically generous of him. The restaurant is small and cosy, which reminded me of the eateries I stumbled across on my travels. After some debate, we ordered prawn crackers and the chicken satay as starters, both of which were insanely delicious. Next came the mains: curry dishes, I can't remember which. The curries came with boiled eggs, anchovies, the full works. The curries weren't meant to be spicy, but Tom started to struggle so I quickly ordered him several pints of tap water - situation resolved. All in all a really nice restaurant, that.

Ate here yesterday and to be honest I didn't enjoy it massively. I was annoyed with my starter as it cost around £5 for some bog standard spring rolls that you can get from the Chinese supermarkets in Leeds. The chicken satay was nice enough but completely lost in a huge smothering of sweet peanut sauce. My chicken rendang mains was tasty but very heavy. So really nothing to moan about but nothing to sing praises about either. I might get some of the chicken skewers again but only takeaway. I wouldn't dine in again.

We had a really lovely chat with the owner after we had our meal. I was really excited to attend this cafe as I live Malay food, been to Malaysia 7-8 times and eaten really good Malay in London. I am afraid this was not Malay food. Everything had about 20 teaspoons of sugar, in fact all the dishes we ordered were overloaded with sugar and I have never eaten Malay curries which were more sugar than flavour. The satay meat was ok but the home made sauce rustic peanut sauce lacked flavour and consistency. It was very rough and ready and again full of sugar. The Chicken pastries were hard and flavourless. Only the roti was passable as a bread but then these are bought frozen and heated up. A real shame as this could have been a staple restaurant we could attend regularly . This is clearly a restaurant for people who have never experienced real Malay cuisine.

Delicious vegetarian and vegan food all hand made Good size portions and I’d def recommend the paneer dosa to anyone. Not a chicken tikka masala in sight! Excellent quality and service too

You’d be better off buying a pot noodle and staying at home!

This spot might not be great for a fancy date, however, the food is delicious. Portions are massive, prices are low and service is fast. I would have liked to see a larger selection of iced teas as I was told there was none and there was only hot green tea. It is a place where you go to eat something delicious cheap and quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. 4 stars is only due to lack of selection of drinks. Only thing to bare in mind, the duck is served with a chunk of bone which is cut up, shards of bone may be present, id recommend having a knife and fork to take it apart if you're having the duck. Food is 5/5, I have been waiting for a long time to discover a spot like this. Recommend you bring cash to pay.
