This place has gone downhill, used to be good but last 2 visits have been a let down

Great food with even better views of the north coast

Super yummy fish and chips! Loved it. The only issue was that the kids' chicken nuggets were not plain, and so they would only eat the chips. We were able to sit outside with our dog at our side, which was super handy. We will be back! (Just won't order chicken nuggets for the kids)

Lovely fish and chips. Nice little wooden huts to sit and enjoy your food to keep you sheltered from the wind coming right off the beautiful coastline.

Was recommended to come here by another local chip shop as they fry chips separately in soy bean oil. I asked about the vegan options and the owner explained the menu thoroughly. Although I am not gluten-free, I understand the full menu is gluten free. Chips were very nice and service was great. It was a quiet time of the day but the little pods are lovely to sit in and eat. Really good experience here!

Was in Kraken Fish and chips Bar in Portrush today as me and my crew mate was out doing the SupercupNI with St John Ambulance and went to get food after. We just want to say thank you to the manager I believe he is for the free food will definitely be back again for the lovely food they do.

Scampi rather tasteless. Fish was OK.

Was recommended by a friend unfortunately the food was awful. Me and my wife got a fish and chip it tasted like something out of a supermarket portions were also small for the price.

Scampi was horrendous. Over cooked and tasteless. Exceptionally disappointed as we were out for a family meal. Staff standing around cluttering the small area to order, doing nothing other than offering alcoholic drinks, seemed very odd. Certainly will not be back ever again.

Friendly, tasty, nice environment, sea view, dog friendly, no nonsense fish and chips, big portions, decent price!

Average at best, chicken tacos had one chicken goujon each and the "jumbo prawns" were quite small. For the £60 we spent we were left very disappointed.

I have just come back from ordering a takeaway and I ordered fish and chips . The fish batter was not one bit crispy, in fact just about cooked and a bit soggy. Also ordered the special which was Korean prawns served with salad and fries. For £10.50 I would have expected more than five baby prawns , the box was filed with fries to make it look like more. Sorry but this was a disappointing takeaway.

First and last visit on 8th June approx 7pm. Pods were dirty, don't know when they were last cleaned. Fish and chips not good, chips were overcooked and mostly wee hard ends batter on fish too heavy. On Saturdays experience l could not in all honesty recommend this to anyone.

Fish is frozen not fresh and smoked. Poor service. Not a good experience.

Very nice fish and chips plenty of food and not greasy, surroundings not bad either.

Service is meh. But good food. Limited menu. Fish and chips were fine, though a bit oily. I would recommend the squid. It was seasoned very well, and the chili sauce made it. We dipped everything in that chili sauce. Each sauce is 1 pound. They prefer cash, but had trouble getting me change.

It was one of the best fish and chips I've had in a long time. The chips were plentiful and were crispy on the outside and soft inside . The fish was delicious and flaky, and the batter was crispy and not greasy. I would certainly recommend this place.

BT53 8EX The place is so clean x tidy, excellent untill there's a pile of rowdy ones come in and throw food at each other I went over x ask them do you throw your dinners like this at home get it tidy before you leave theave. they ignored me came my turn the ladies s said thanks noone has ever took that lot on didnt do any good do you have cctv iif you have i could put there pics up x let some others know wat there like. They never came back. see you all next week

Stopped in for a quick bite and everything exceeded our expectations. The owner (or a very diligent employee?!) was brilliant, quick to bring a baby seat and show us the heaters. It was lovely to sit in the huts and admire the views. Food was delicious, the tacos were great! There wasn’t a crumb left between us! Really enjoyed the experience and will be back!

Other than the young girl at the till (seperated from the food area) playing with her hair while we ordered and paid, the experience was great.

Food just ok but eating areas were grubby and needing cleaned. Whole atmosphere not one which would make me rush back.

I would highly recommend the Kracken. I had a voucher to spend & was warmly welcomed & my order taken immediately. They honoured my voucher to the full, supplementing my order to my delight, with a quarter bottle of wine which I enjoyed while waiting. The waiting area has a lovely family vibe with pods available for those who don’t want to take away. After waiting just long enough to enjoy my drink I was buzzed that my order was ready. I had scampi & chips it was meaty, warm & delicious the accompanying salad was crispy & fresh. A 5 star experience thank you.

As someone with celiac disease, it was honestly such a refreshing experience to walk in and not worry about my food being cross contaminated with other foods. Can't tell you the last time I had a chippy, and this experience did not dissapoint. No matter how far away you are from Portrush, it's a tickbox you need to check off if you can! Food was amazing!! Honetly cant wait to come back and try everything on the menu! The service was great- friendly staff who were enthusiastic about actually caring for you gluten free needs, and a lovely environment! My food was also cooked pretty quickly in comparison to other places, and the portion sizes were spot on. I had got a burger with a portion of chips and a portion of battered sausages. Totalled to about £14, which is phenomenal for something that big and is ALSO gluten free, so don't worry about getting getting your money's-worth! I would happily go there again, without hesitation, and I honestly couldn't express the need to try it if you are also gluten free.

It is so brilliant to find a totally GF fish and chip shop and why not! Gf fish and chips is better than the stuff offered by glutinous establishments. The fish tastes fresh and the chips are crispy and hot. Portions are generous. The staff are great and very funny. We wish we had a Kraken where we live!

Great service. Very helpful staff. We spent a day sightseeing along the beautiful Antrim coast and stopped for fish and chips at Kraken. The fish (haddock) was perfectly cooked. The chips were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's a good deal for £12.50. Would highly recommend a visit.

Poor service. Especially from the English gentleman with the receding hairline and bad teeth at the door. Would not go back. Rude and appalling service. Atmosphere not good either. Food was also not amazing.

Only chippy in Portstewart we could find that served GF fish and chips (they said, "All their food is GF"). Ordered from the booth at 5:30pm using QR code. Looked like an efficient process, until it took 17 mins for the food to be delivered, which was too long... considering it was only moderately busy. £14.50 for one piece of fish and 2 portions of chips... was expensive. Especially as fish was very small and the chips were hard and well below average quality, although nice and hot. The music was also rap, with some very crude lyrics. Overall, a disappointing experience.

Foods great! Pods are brilliant idea however the heater did not work, coming into winter now .. other than that brilliant and will still be back

Four of us had a great evening at Kraken. The food was delicious - super GF options for me. We sat in one of the beach huts with the heater on so it was very cosy. The service was excellent. Definitely worth a visit. Next time we'll bring the dog as there was a water bowl under the table.

The food here is fabulaois but service is even better. After being serviced our food the server came out with a sausage to give to our dog. Really nice place and dog friendly! 😀

We got a takeaway from Kraken yesterday- it was really excellent. The fish tacos were amazing, as were the salt and chilli prawns and the chips were the best we have had anywhere. The staff were nice as well. And it was well priced considering the quality of the food.

First time to Kraken Fish & Chips (25 Aug. 2023) and it was wonderful! I wanted to get the Korean Chicken Fries, so I got a kids fish and chips and there was so much food! The fries were loaded with chicken, and the prices were very reasonable for so much food. It was also so good. Crisp, fresh fish, chips, and the loaded fries were plentiful, spicy, and excellent. Everyone was so friendly, professional, even saved a space for me outside. Table area had a heater, so even though I was outside, the temp was warm. I will definitely go back again next time I'm in the area.

Busy, but outdoor seats were available even though we didn't book a table. These are under a covered area, but no real protection from the wind when it picked up. There appears to be indoor seating available as well, however, for such an occasion. Lots of little wooden cabins to sit in, which were cute, but all full; very popular. As it was a warm evening, many preferred outside; caught glimpses of the sea over the fairly high wooden fence. Even saw dolphins or porpoises in the bay! Food was great. Normally the kids don't finish meals when they're out, but these were definitely finished. Big portions. Was very hungry going in, but stuffed by the time I was wandering out, just after a main course. High quality ingredients. Not greasy at all. Perfect seaside food. Will go again.

The chips I think were deep fried in fragrant butter, and was so good.

it has a cute and cozy vibe, the food was good, but perhaps too intense in flavour for someone who isn’t used to spicy (korean bbq chicken). boyfriend did not enjoy his fish very much, but overall, the experience was nice. staff was polite and friendly, but i can’t give five stars due to the high price of drinks. overall enjoyed my time there, but would come pre-hydrated

Called in today to order takeaway, as they weren't busy at that time they said we could order anything we wanted on the menu. On way in my daughter caught her thumb in the door, the girl on the till quickly got her ice and checked her hand and then the chef handed her a chocolate bar to cheer her up, which was so kind! Whilst waiting we got speaking to another member of staff who checked on my daughter and even got the chef to give us an extra sausage for our dog. I have to say the food was amazing but the staff went over and beyond for us. I really can't recommend this place enough. 😊

The fish and chips were absolutely incredible. Even if you don't like curry sauce you should try this one because it is excellent 👌. The buffalo wings were delicious and delightful. The chips 🍟 were lovely. Really good service as well very nice people really easy to order and pay. Overall I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THis PLACE

Kraken Fish & Chips is the best in Ireland, We wouldn't go anywhere else, and the family love them also, so it's a win-win. The food is 2nd to none and the staff are extremely friendly and polite. We have never had a bad meal in it and keep returning to Portrush for the food before anything else 😋

Nice spot, but cute cabins and ambiance is better than the food. Limited drinks and food options. fish was not great, the chicken burgers were okay the highlight was the loaded chips but did lack description of toppings (i would have had the red chilli taken off if i am known) ... was a nice enough meal but would not be returning.

Once again, first class food, which is gluten free, so no missing out on the best tasting fish and chips. The gin and tonic and glass of wine is an added bonus!

Fish and chips we went to on a local recommendation! The atmosphere and table space are well decorated, so it's great to eat while looking at the sea or enjoying the atmosphere :) However, it's a little bland for my taste, but I recommend it because all my local friends and family loved it. Prawn Taco's were absolutely delicious 3 large king prawns on each Taco £9 The Chicken Taco's very disappointing one tiny chicken strip on each Taco? £8 Chicken isn't expensive so can't understand why so tight with a tiny strip of chicken? Skinny fries with skin on £4 lovely fresh & tasty. The quality of the food was lovely just seemed strange to put such a tiny amount of chicken on each Taco that would equal a quarter of a chicken fillet over the two.

So we sat in and between running out of fish and chips, getting someone else's order brought to us and then removed as we were opening it, to then finally getting our order nearly an hour after placing it, with one wrong dish and missing chips from another, we didn't have the best experience. We were in a little conservatory which had sticky tables and had a really loud engine noise that muted our conversation. The fact it was mediocre was beyond disappointing but the £54 price tag for 2kids meals, 2 loaded fries and drinks was worse still. Maybe got it on a bad night but its wasn't worth the walk to it, never mind the money it cost. Reviews for their fish seem good but we can't comment on it.

Great little fish and chip joint in Portrush. They have lots of outdoor seating, plus little cabins you can sit in with a group of friends. It's counter service, with fish and chips served up in takeaway boxes even if you're dining in. The fish and chips were decent. The fish was mostly crispy, though being served up in a box, it wasn't crispy all the way though. Still good though. Plenty of parking nearby.

Staff didn't seem to care much if u where there or not. Food brought out to ur hut in a bag like a takeaway and very over priced for fish and chips with wooden cutlery. Wouldn't be running back to it

Very dry tasteless haddock and chips

Ate in an outside ‘pod’ which was handy as it was pissing down. Cod was super fresh with a nice thin layer of batter. Service was friendly and professional

The Kraken was a great experience. We got fish and chips and chicken tacos. Wow, I can't stop thinking about the tacos and the fish. This place is gluten free which is amazing and the chips were proper chips to enjoy at the sea. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the service was also really good. We had a 30 minute wait, but that shows how popular and must say worth it the food was.

Takeaway food, served in individual wooden pods, sea view, alcoholic beverages and cocktails are also available. Enjoyed our meals. scampi, chips, salad and dip, haddock fillet and chips. Pods can be opened up on nicer days or evenings, doors and windows. have lights and heaters available and it was nice and cosy after a short period with it on. Lovely little evening out

Not sure why they don't advertise the gluten free fish here. Couldn't tell the difference and had no problems after. Good portion for a reasonable price. And the outdoor seating in little shacks to protect from the elements is a stroke of genius! Not sure why more restaurants don't adopt this style

This fish and chip cafe is wheelchair accessible and the food is delicious and the staff are friendly and helpful and we came back again for lunch on our way home back to Belfast I would recommend this cafe to anyone

Went for a takeaway and they told me to come back in 30 mins. I came back in 25 mins and they told me they were closed.

Dine-in in the outdoor pods. Fear not heat, light and rainproof doors made this a great experience. each pod could comfortably take 6 adults. Portions of our fish & chips and scampi and chips were pleanty big enough. Also beer and cider is available - only the weather was a bit of a downer on our visit.

Great food, their chips are absolutely amazing and 95 percent of their menu is gluten free (some chicken menu items being the exception as they use buttermilk). A bit pricey but worth every penny

Nice fish and chips spot! The view is absolutely a plus. The fish was nice, the batter was extra crispy, the chips were tasty, but could have used a more generous portion of tartar sauce. The place was quiet and not overcrowded, we enjoyed our lunch! Nice spot in Portrush!

Lovely, but it's now getting too expensive. It was £11 for a fish supper a few weeks ago but is now £14 😳 most expensive Chip shop in the area.
