Kowloon in Wakefield

Honestly, it's the best Chinese in wakefield, The food is always super fresh & hot. The staff are attentive & polite, Its ready to collect within twenty minutes of ordering.

Iv been using koqloon since a child the mother and father ran it then I believe The food is still as good as in the 80s. Sweet and sour chicken 3 big breasts battered enough for 2 ppl with rice, Spent £30 and with the munchies 3 adults lasted 2 days

Ordered food, collected within the 10 minutes. Food flat cold chicken over cooked and the sweet and sour sauce hadn’t touched a heat source. Very disappointed and will not be returning

Update! Since changing ownership, I feel it has lost that special Kowloon feel and taste. Everything is much greasier. Portions have dropped in size quite a bit. It's such a shame that the institution that was Kowloon has fallen.

The food here is top notch would recommend you try it

I'm in shock and traumatised that you think it's acceptable to use reformed chicken in the curry I had.

Never had a bad meal from the Kowloon. We travel a 35 mile round trip, so that say's a lot for takeaway food. I can highly recommend the Kung Bo chicken and the chilli beef, while my husband recommends the house special chow mein and the sweet and sour chicken. Delicious!

Always order from Kowloon. Value for money and portions are massive. The sweet and sour chicken, chicken chow mein & salt and pepper prawns are amazing.

My favourite takeaway 😊. I drive 5 miles just to visit Kowloon. I don't get a takeaway often but when I do it's Kowloon all the way. Great, happy staff 👍

Best Chinese takeaway around , kung po chicken is so much better than anywhere else in any city, bigger chunks of meat, more cashews and sticker sauce, soooo good. I get it everytime I’m back in the North. So cheap too, only downside is cash only so have to search for a cash machine beforehand

Disappointed in the food, plenty of it but wasn't hot and a shortage of beansprouts in the chow mein, husbands chicken curry far too sweet. All in all not a happy experience.

This is a take away food place so that is why the atmosphere doesn't get many stars. The new generation have exceeded the previous one. Food is fantastic, tasty and lots of meat and spice in my Singapore chow main (extra hot).

First time back for about 8 years. Went for the meal for 2 and we enjoyed it. The sweet & sour chicken was still how we remembered it, really nice. It's not amazing chinese takeaway food but decent & large portions...

I've visited Kowloon twice and both times they've given me charge for £10 when I'd handed them £20. Following two embarrassing arguments which only ended when I insisted they did a quick till check was I properly re-imbursed.

It is fresh, very good meal and delicious.

We have been using the Kowloon for over 30 years even before in was on Batley Rd , when it was In Wakefield town centre. We have been tonight and cant believe the quality was so poor the beef was inedible so tough and chewy . The overall set menu was no where near as good as it was . Don't know if it has changed hands when I asked if it was under new management she wouldn't answer. Then to find out the price for the set menu for the same food had increased by £10 . Needless to say we will not be using the Kowloon again. The increase isn't the reason it was the poor quality of the food. How sad for the end of a era.

A really busy and great value Chinese takeaway, went Xmas eve and because of its popularity 45 minutes wait time. Being going for over 20yrs.

Never thought i would say anything bad about the Kowloon, been a customer of theirs for over 30 years but the meal I had this week which was Special Curry it was 50% onions won't be going there again

Everytime the food is soo tasty. I try so many dishes from them and its worth every penny. Good price, nice to customers, the phone ring all the time and they work really hard to do food on time. My favourite takeaway

Good value check your order before you leave though sometimes theres something missing.

Food was good and plenty of it great value for money

The man on the counter was extremely rude when I asked how much the order came to. (I was told a different amount by the wife at home who had placed the order). Rather than calmly explain the extra charges due to the cost of ingredients going up (which should have been explained on the phone) he just kept shouting and repeating the price and aggressively banging on the perspex, pointing at the sign which explains this in plain black small font text. We were still overcharged even when taking into account the extra charges! On top of that the meals were poorly stuffed into a plastic bag so much that you couldn't use the carry handles. Extremely disappointed and will not be using again.

I have been to Kowloon for the past 20+ years, even though I dont live locally... amazing food, friendly staff, massive portions and so tasty. I highly recommend them

Always drive from Dewsbury to go here cos there's not a good Chinese in Dewsbury and am never disappointed, great portion size and good food.

Been using Kowloon for years and years. Over the years the quality has always been pretty good. It is a solid take out and the food is plentiful and tastes good. Like most Chinese it is a touch on the salty side but one of the better Chinese take outs overall. We have the set meal for 2 with additional prawn toasts and another meal, it feeds 4 comfortably. The only gripe I have is that they charge for prawn crackers and let's be honest, after spending £25+ it would be nice yo get something extra!

Always worth the 20 mins round trip to collect, one of the best Chinese anyone will have Quality meat and full of flavour probably tried half dozen others Chinese don't come close Kowloon every week for me .

We’ve used this take away years ago and thought we would give it another go. The sweet and sour chicken used to be to die for. However, that was years ago. My wife ordered the Prawn Curry and amongst others it duly arrived for takeaway. It didn’t even look like a Curry and tasted even less like a Curry. She didn’t eat it. Normally the following day the takeaways improve but on this occasion there was a jelly formation floating on top. Disgusting. Being a good cook she rinsed all the prawns and made her own version of a prawn Curry, which was gorgeous. Moral. Only eat here if you can’t cook a Curry yourself.

Lovely food and nice staff reasonably priced but dont have a delivery service which is a little disapointing as I would use more often if it did.

17/01/2020. Just like to say the meal was disappointing, the chips were dry and cold . The sweet sour pork was not what we expected as the pork was battered, the sauce was in a small separate tub and it was tasteless. The curry was average.

Always fast service, incredible food, best Chinese cuisine in wakefield, always polite on the till and massive portions, would reccomend to anyone

Best Chinese takeaway in Wakefield not only for food but for value for money and staff very friendly and helpful.

Massive portions and great selection of dishes available. Would have given 5 stars but the black bean sauce was a little bland this time. Have eaten from there before and it’s been spot on. Will definitely give them another try and hopefully it will be the same standard as last time.

If there is a family of 4 of you on a tight budget then the sweet and sour chicken is a mountain of food that is epic value for money. Never had a bad meal from this place. Salt and Pepper chips are great too.

King prawn chow mein is my go too order every Friday night, prawns are so big I swear they must be krackens, always tasty and stacked, dude at the counter is a spiffing bloke always up for a laugh and some banter about anything.

Kowloon has been a top quality Chinese take away for years, not sure when they first opened but myself, family and friends have been using them for 20+ years. Impossible to review these guys without mentioning the sweet and sour chicken which impresses everybody. You get a lot for your money and the sweet and sour chicken could feed two, maybe three people when split with rice/chips/noodles etc. Kowloon does not have a delivery service yet remains one of the most popular Chinese places in the area, highly recommend, never had a bad meal from here ever

it was absolutely vile! Everything was dry and not cooked properly! My mum ordered the sweet and sour chicken, it was some kind of battered chicken and a pot of so called sweet and sour sauce but it was vinegar and a slice of pineapple!!! Do not go there!!!

Fantastic takeaway portion sizes are that big you even can have it the next day. The food is quality as well and the best thing is the curry’s sauce, They don’t deliver and for me they don’t need to, cos they are that good! Service is great And very friendly!

Foods ok but don't phone orders in because they start to cook it when you walk in unless your a regular just a heads up

Can be slow but this is because they are always busy. Rather wait for good food than get rubbish quickly.

We love the Kowloon. It excellent value for money because the portion sizes are huge. We enjoy that many dishes from her e it takes us ages to agree on what we're going to get. It makes a lovely weekrnd family treat for us all.

Food is amazing and the portions are unbelievable, no other Chinese have come near with regards to size of meals and well priced. Salt and pepper chicken is my advice.

Without a doubt one of the most popular Chinese Takeaways in Wakefield, however this is for two simple reasons, number one - most people who eat there are pretty clueless and number two, the gigantic portions and cheap prices, which the pretty clueless customers think counts as an adequate criteria. The fact that the standard of Chinese food in Wakefield is so stupidly low also doesn't help. Of course everyone loves the rubbery, cheap water injected chicken in greasy thick batter, it's only competition is the horrible premade chicken balls everyone else serves. Tip Number One - Only get anything containing pork if you love gristle and fat.Tip Number Two - If you like being spoken to like dog muck by someone who's vocabulary doesn't include please or thank you (or even hello!) but does include 'yep' and '10 minutes' (even though it will take 40) as her only means of communication, then ring a few times and eventually you will get to 'speak' to this delightful member of staff.Tip Number Three - Lotus in Wakefield Centre is miles better. Lucky House around the corner from Kowloon is a lot better.

I have visited this takeaway for several years and never had a bad meal. Yes I have occasionally had to wait but I appreciate the fresh produce used and you know each meal is cooked from fresh, hence the wait. I have tried other places but nowhere beats this for value, with reasonable prices and huge portions and it does taste good. Try the Singapore vermicelli, best thing on the menu!

I ordered a takeaway on New Year's Eve as I expected it to be busy that evening I rang and gave four hours notice of what dishes we would like. When I got there we wait a further 45 minutes before our food was ready!!! The food was good and obviously freshly cooked but the service was terrible.

Had the special curry which had no chicken in and all the pork was very fatty and inedible. The prawn crackers were soggy, the fried rice was very dry and bland tasting.

I live seven miles away and have been a customer for 20 years. They are always packed which means the food is prepared fresh everyday unlike some other take aways which serve you meat and veg that has been in the fridge all week. The portions are always huge and the House Special is one of my favourites, always topped with two two large slices of chicken and char siu pork and a dash of homemade gravy. Their most popular dish has to be the sweet and sour chicken, i have yet to find anywhere which does it like they do, and whats more, if you don't like sweet and sour sauce you can choose a sauce of you like for no extra cost. Definitley the best Chinese for miles!

Please do not order food from the takeaway. I took away and ended up throwing away after only a few mouthfuls. I ordered a special chow me in that consisted of noodles and veg with a piece of chicken, a piece of pork slapped on top with some disgusting gravy like sauce. Bland with a horrible after taste. My husband ordered a chicken curry and chips which was just about edible. Very disappointing.

Monster portions, decent prices, some dishes can be abit wammy. you can easily feed a family of 4 with 2 main dishes (depending on your family!) Convenient location, would recommend.

This Chinese is always busy. You get a lot of food for you money especially in the meal deals. The only thing is that the food sometimes lacks flavour. However for the price it s extremely good value and can feed many for an acceptable amount of money.
