We went here for a return visit after not having been for years. It was so good again. We had the mere cold plate which had humus, salad, olives, tahini, tzatziki, beans on sauce, etc. We also ordered stuffed aubergine, chicken and peppers and a vegetarian casserole. We really over ordered but the food was great. We ate it all then even found room for baklava and a warm custard in filo pastry with coffee. It felt like being in Greece.

This little restaurant is incredible! We had the vegetarian moussaka, and it was delightful! Not too oily or heavy, and not too salty either, it was just perfect. It came with an assortment of salads (small scoops of each), which round it it very nicely. The service was very quick, the restaurant was clean but fuss-free, and the prices were quite decent (£9 for a very large and filling lunch, £3 for a big, mouth-watering slice of baklava!). I loved it!!!

This was my second visit to this lovely ‘rustic’ Greek cafe for lunch. On each occasion I was greeted warmly and the food was outstanding value and so fresh. I’m kicking myself that I hadn’t visited before on my occasional visit to the market. Today I had the meze plate & previously had the moussaka with salads. Beautifully presented authentic Greek home style cooking - do go - you won’t be disappointed!!

Located in the open market on London Road this small Greek cafe punches above its weight with its food. There are usually at least 6 options for main meals and they are always delicious and filling. The staff are friendly and the prices very reasonable. It's why it is usually pretty busy.

We had to wait 45 minutes for food. No apology- people arriving after us fed before us - not good. When the food arrived it was only warm and on cold plates. When we left most of the tables we unoccupied and not cleared. The food was reasonably tasty. Not the sort of place that deserves our hard earned money Geoff

We happened upon this gem by chance. They serve very healthy delicious food, from meat to vegan. The food is unbelievably good value. Unfortunately, they don’t serve alcohol and you can’t BYO. We had a meze starter each for £2.50 each then a huge mixed plate for £11 which included the best humus I’ve ever had and delicious tzatziki. The plate included Greek sausage, Greek spinach and feta filo pie, moussaka, salad, couscous, a meat moussaka style dish with pasta in it and toast (there were other things too). Everything is home made. Just brilliant. We find that we are rarely impressed when we eat out. We were bowled over with this restaurant.

Just had lunch with my wife on a drizzly Saturday in Kouzina Brighton, but it feels more like eating in Greece than Brighton. We had a light delightful lunch and the food was great, like homemade from a Greek taverna somewhere off the beaten track in central Greece. Kouzina is no frills, small and basic, but brilliant value for money, see photo inc drinks (great coffee) all for £18.....brilliant I will come again.

He estado aquí media docena de veces y siempre muy, muy impresionado. El servicio es excelente, y la comida es realmente atípica griega. Sin embargo, lo que realmente hace que se destaque es la atención al detalle de cada elemento colocado en la placa. My girlfriend is coeliac. We came here 5 months ago and asked which dishes were gluten free. We were told that the chickpea and spinach stew was gluten free and so were the Greek sausages. When we received our meal it had bread on the same plate. We asked them to take it back and wipe the plate. After receiving the dish back and after eating my girlfriend fell ill for a few days. We put this down to the contamination with the bread on the plate. We came back to try again making sure there would be no bread in the plate. We noticed that one customer had been served a vegetable dish but was not what she had ordered so this was brought back with the bread on the plate. The vegetable dish she was given we were told was gluten free however they tipped the vegetable dish back in the pot it was cooked in however bread had been on this so there was instant contamination. We asked again if the spinach, chickpea and potato dish was gluten free and they said it was . We also asked if the Greek sausages were gluten free and told that they are and also hand made. After ordering these two dishes and eating them my girlfriend started to feel ill within 20 minutes and is almost certain the sausages are not gluten free.We can never come back here because the staff have no concern for people with allergens. This is clear from tipping food that had been contaminated with gluten back in the pan ready for another customer. I am so disappointed that my girlfriends weekend will now be ruined as they've made her ill again ☹️️

This is a superb surprise that you could easily walk past without noticing, hidden away in a corner of the Open Market (now covered). But once you've tried it, I guarantee you'll keep coming back as I do.The food is authentic Greek, and the presence of a number of Greek customers when I first went there told me all I needed to know. Sometimes you tend to have a favourite dish at a restaurant you know well, but I can honestly say that I can never decide between about four or five favourites at Kouzina. The Yahni (chickpea and spinach casserole) is recommended for vegetarians, and the sausages are splendid for carnivores. And the portions will be large and will come with mountains of salad. An amazing cafe - I go because it is friendly, the food tastes authentically greek and it's somewhere I feel equally comfortable eating alone or with others. I've recently taken my rather fussy partner here who described it as "restaurant quality food at cafe prices" (no mean praise as he considers himself quite a food connoisseur!) Expect to spend £5-7 on a filling and flavorsome meal with fresh jugs of water available if you want to save on the cost of a drink, and there is a salad option for around £4 too.

Visited just yesterday with some friends and was amazed at the little place that is KOUZINA. Tucked away in the corner it's small, no frills, friendly and authentic. The food was wonderful! The menu was small but the the quality 100%. Exactly what you need for a lunch or snack. The greek breakfast was lovely as was the salad bowl. My friend had the casserole which was delicious. Very reasonable price wise. The staff are so friendly and caring too, bringing my friend extra bread for his casserole and us all some free cake! Definitely visiting again and would recommend 110% Thanks for a lovely lunch x

Great find for lunch when we explored the Brighton open market, with a very warm welcome.Tasty spinach & feta pie was turned into a generous lunch by spending a whole extra £1 for a good selection of salads on the side. Bargain. Lentil soup warm & filling.

I live near the recently renovated Open Market, and I'm delighted that Kouzina is so close to me. It's a small cafe in the corner of the market, with fresh, delicious food and friendly staff. You can peek at all the daily specials before making your choice, and you won't go wrong with tender pork meatballs in a tangy lemon and rice soup, juicy sausages served with Greek salad, or an unctuous lamb and lettuce stew, all at ridiculously reasonable prices. The coffee's good, too, and you can even get the food to go - but then you'll miss out on the people-watching at the market!

This independent café/ restaurant offering Greek food in a corner of the newly refurbished Open Market is just great! Freshly prepared mains at very reasonable prices, with a good choice of salad sides (at just £1.00 for a mix of two!) Very generous portions, vegetarian and meaty options, a chance to look at the dishes before you decide (as you would be able to do in Greece!) and relaxed, welcoming service. What's not to like? The mixed meze, with delicious toasted bread with olive oil, is a must, and try the veggies roasted in olive oil and honey. An honest and unpretentious place in a varied and vibrant market.Tourists should seek it out.Locals should support it.

We discovered this place on a visit to the newly renovated Open Market. The market istelf has had a great makeover and worth a visit when they have a weekend antique/retro day. We only had a light lunch at Kouzina but it was a surprise to find a Greek restaurant there at all. Friendly service and great toasted sandwiches with Greek flavours and ingredients. I only wish we had a bigger meal as the food on the next table looked amazing and a huge portion. It may only be a market cafe but it is fun and a definite positive addition to eating in the London Rd area.

Visited Kouzina in Brighton open market London road. This was my second visit. It's a nice stop off to have lunch or just. Snack either way you cannot be disappointed, from the large salad or hearty soups, lovely meat dishes which I have yet to explore. So here's to another good visit, keep the good work up

Kouzina provide the 'obvious' filo and cheese pastries, moussaka and Greek salads (and they do them very well) but they ALSO cook and serve fresh and interesting food that I've never eaten in a UK Greek restaurant. More like home cooking, if your mother could REALLY cook. Meatballs in rice and lemon sauce! Plump tasty sausages that you cut open to reveal delicious meat inside. Toast drizzled in the best Greek olive oil...And it's in the newly reopened Brighton Open Market, so its great for people watching and shopping for other affordable good quality food.

Kouzina is situated in a corner of Brighton's Open Market and can seat approximately 20 diners. We called in for brunch and opted for a toasted halloumi sandwich, salad bowl and coffee. Everything was freshly prepared and absolutely delicious. If you want a tasty meal that's slightly different from the norm, please try this establishment.. Hot meals were also available and there was plenty of choice.

Had lunch here with a friend last week, having noticed how busy this place was on previous visits to the newly refurbished Open Market. My friend had a mezze plate with dips and bread and I chose a spinach and feta slice with 2 salads. The mains are homemade and delicious and this unpretentious little cafe is a big asset to the market. Service is great too, very friendly and welcoming and at around £12.50 for 2, including soft drinks, I would definitely recommend! Loved watching the passers by and enjoying the market atmosphere as well.
