KOKORO sushi and bento in Kingston upon Thames

I tried kokoro twice but never again. The food’s quality is extremely poor and the prices are not cheap! I had a beef bolgogi this evening and I regretted it. Every piece of meat has a vein of ligament in it and chews! Not sure what cut of meat they used but seems like the discardable bits. Their Veggie rolls are green and odd. I never say disgusting about food but their food is unfortunately disgusting. Never again!

I went in and was ignored , then someone jumped the queue and served them first . Kingston store is useless compared to surbiton branch

All their dishes are truly exceptional, Served Hot whether dine-in r Takeaway. Staff is also very friendly and kind. Servings are remarkable truly giving you your money's worth.

This chain did amazing food when they first started out a few years ago but have to say they all rubbish now. You literally feel sick after eating it. The chicken is so rubbery one can bounce it off the floor. There’s no effort put into the cooking whatsoever. AVOID!!!

We ordered the spicy pork. This should come with some sort of warning as it was so spicy it gave me a tummy ache after a few forkfuls and my husband was ill because of it ( it was his main meal). There is no description apart from “hot hot” on the website. This is not really much of a description and doesn’t really mean anything. I ordered salmon teriyaki for my children. This was ok but quite sweet. I think it was too sickly sweet for them by the end of the meal. I had the yakisoba noodles. These were very dry and tasteless. We also shared a salmon and tuna sushi set. The tuna sashimi was cut so thick it was just a massive hunk of raw fish. Although the sushi was probably the nicest thing we ordered. In short if you want real, good quality Japanese food then go somewhere else.

I started going to kokoro a few years ago, but as of recently I have started going to the Putney kokoro rather than the kingston one. The food is consistently poor, with grey chicken than tastes funny. The kingston used to be great, but I can no longer recommend it.

Did not cater for allergies, refused to serve me despite the sign saying to ask staff about dietary requirements

I visited Kokoro with my family and was initially impressed with how well presented the food looked. I brought a few dishes to take home and was NOT impressed with the outcome. The meat was dry and the sauce was gloopy. Therefore, if you are thinking of buying from this place then I would highly advise you don’t. I certainly won’t be coming back here in a hurry!

Loved their katsu curry it’s one of the best ones I have had. Tofu Katsu was nice but didn’t like tofu chilli that much which needs improvement. All in all a great fast good Japanese place. If you are in the mood for authentic Japanese food at a reasonable price then I wouldn't recommend it enough! Great service too and can't wait to go back and try more of their dishes.

At the one in putney kokoru delivery drivers gather closely chat no masks waiting for their delivery to take to customer. Restaurant has been told residents have spoke to drivers and police regularly patrol. Don't get take away from here

The Chicken Katsu Is Definitely My Favourite From Here. Large Portions Of Food For Great Prices And The Staff Always Have Nice Smiles, And Good Chats

We ordered meals for lunch and a take-way. Sushi was fresh and delicious. Crispy chicken was good with sticky rice. We enjoyed the lunch with gusto.

This was a great find and I actually walked passed it twice not thinking to go in. I was in the mood for katsu curry so thought I would give it a go. I was not disappointed as the food was very good. They are a bit light on the veg, the addition of which would have really helped the meal feel more balanced as the katsu, chicken and rice is plentiful (large box was ordered on this occasion). They also do very mochi desserts so I will be coming back for some more delicacies :)

Fomos visitar o castelo e aproveitamos p dar uma volta na cidade , onde almoçamos neste restaurante . Comida boa a um preço normal p este tipo de japonesa e ou chinesa . Arroz com galinha normal e agridoce a 6,90 pounds e massa com porco por 5,90 . As atendentes não são muito simpáticas !

Love coming back. The food is amazing, staff are friendly and definitely worth the money. The new restaurant area is kept clean and tidy after a table becomes available.

This is a great place to go for a quick Chinese,no frills just good food,my kids really love it too.

It's a lot like that other Japanese chain called "wasabi". Uxbridge needed something like this. Severe shortage of Japanese cuisine here.When I visited on a Saturday afternoon, there wasn't much sushi left. They close at 9pm so not sure what they do till then, make some more or everyone is forced to eat the hot stuff like noodles. My sudhi was ok. Price was about £9 for a mixed selection and a miso soup.Like I said earlier, this is a handy addition to the many eateries in Uxbridge.

Since another shop with the same name opened next door and the quality of food in this shop started going down. The other Kokoro next door does not seem to be part of the same franchise (the Kokoro on 10 Castle Street is not listed in Kokoro's website). American Express currently has a promotion to visit small shops that accept Amex card and Kokoro was participating so I brought my family to the large Kokoro shop (10 Castle Street) but they didn't accept Amex card. Apparently that shop was not Kokoro (only the small one at 4 Castle Street is part of Kokoro franchise). Food in both shops doesn't taste as nice as other Kokoro franchises. The entire staff looked very unhappy every time I visited (they must be trained to look depressed). A sad place... won't go back.

I went to their smaller restaurant first and they had no vegetarian options at the time, so they sent me to their larger restaurant which next to it.

Love the sweet sour chicken and dumplings they are my favourite. Good value for money and nice staff and clean place. The only thing which disappoints me is that why they don't have toilets.

The food used to taste and look far more appetising. on my last visit the food looked a lot sadder and more beige / grey in colour. maybe a new chef or cutting costs?

Personally I use this KOKORO at least once every 2 weeks and it’s always great. The chicken katsu curry is a must try for first timers, but many other dishes are available such as sweet spicy chicken and curry options ☺️ also there are sides available like kimchi, udon, seaweed etc. along with a wide selection of drinks. There is something for everyone and it’s always good quality and good temperature.

My favourite takeaway of all time! The portion size is great. I normally have a regular size and that fills me up for half a day.

whilst the quality of the chicken is questoinable, this is a really popular choice for teenagers wanting fast tasty food. Service also good, as is location. Inevitable queues move fast, generous portions.

Excellent sushi & sashimi set, and also very good relation price quality. I would recommend it and repeat it in my next visit.

The food is OK. Nothing special, edible . Katsu sauce made from powder and often you can taste it grainy. Chicken often not too good, like it’s not cleaned before cooking. A few months ago it was a very good place but I guess either the owner changed or staff or both.

I'm a fan of Kokoro already so when popping through Kingston thought I'd be on safe ground coming here for lunch. I fancied something spicy and the friendly and helpful staff suggested the spicy pork which was delicious and had a real kick! I think I'll be trying all of the other branches too!

I just had my food form Kingston Kokoro. Teriyaki chicken with rice. Had a black hair in it. Is just sick. Never again.

Absolutely love stopping here once or twice a week. Not only is the food tasty and speedy, but the portions are very generous :)

Food was good portion for medium size and very filling. Sweet and sour chicken was very good. Dumpling were amazing also.

"Spicy" sushi on Sunday, vomiting within 4 hours, then two days off work to recover. In their defence, the hot food has lots of fans and my two co-diners had chicken katsu, as they have had many times, and emerged unscathed.

I have been here multiple times and thought it was great the food is always amazing, they give you generous portions and it does not take long!!!!!!

This place has a great variety of dishes and the portion sizes are great for the price. I got the medium chicken katsu curry and it was very filling and tasty. I tried some of the teriyaki chicken dish from a friend however, and the chicken seemed cheaper than in the katsu curry. The flavour was good though, so I'm not sure if he just got a bad batch, but with a bit more consistency in quality this place would be 5 stars!

This is the number one choice for me and my partner whenever we want a quick and filling meal! The Chicken Katsu in particular is really amazing, but all is really tasty and affordable! However, disappointed that the loyalty card has been discontinued! + there is virtually no seating inside, and no toilets!

I decided to try their katsu curry and as the lady was cutting the chicken I noticed it was slightly pink so I told her i did not want that chicken and she gave me another, this too was pink but before I could say anything, the manager shouted at her for throwing the chicken in the bin!!!! I was appalled by the manager. the only good thing was the rice.

I've never had a bad pot of food from here, granted I've not tried there sushi, but their hot food is amazing. Great quality for a great price. The staff are very respectful and polite.

Can't here with a friend last week. We needed to grab some food on the go. Big line of people outside but it went down really quickly. There are a few seats outside & a small bar on the inside but it's mainly take away. I had the large salmon sushi pack & it was the best thing I've ever eaten, so fresh & totally delicious. Couldn't recommend enough!!

Small place with massive queue! Nothing taste better than sweet chilli chicken with noodles If u want something quick to eat u have to go there !

If ever I'm in Kingston I always pop into Kokoro to buy my lunch. I range from having the sushi selection, hand roll, seaweed salad and edamame beans to the hot sweet and sour chicken with rice. All very tasty and good price for what portions you get. It's quite small inside and there's limited seating, but I can see why they are there, as it's such a good location. Definitely recommend going in your lunch hour or to take home for lunch/dinner.

Mio marito non mangia pesce crudo e nemmeno io lo amo, quindi abbiamo preso pollo, riso e salse varie. Una porzione è bastata per 2 perchè era abbondante e noi, inoltre, siamo abituati a mangiare poco per pranzo, di solito un tramezzino in due, macedonia e succo di frutta. Questa volta abbiamo derogato perchè avevamo voglia di qualcosa di diverso e caldo. Non ci siamo pentiti. Cibo buono e a buon prezzo per un ristorante giapponese. Ambente piccolo all'interno, pochissimi posti a sedere, ma ci sono tavolini esterni, personale gentile. Ci torneremo

I have got food from here a few times and it is delicious! Last time I went I had the Chicken Katsu Curry . I couldn't fault it, loads of chicken, loads of rice/noodles and loads of sauce. So much nice food for a small price. The staff are always friendly and the only problem I have is that there is no room to eat inside. One of my favourite places to eat in Kingston

Love this place, cheap, great quality and lovely to eat for lunch. Bit of a pain ordering when busy as it's a small place but it's well worth the queue.

Lunch from there was okay. Tried the Pork and chilli chicken both were decent but a little greasy. Portions were huge - I ordered a medium and had to throw half of it away. £7.50 for lunch with a bottle of water

I went to Kokoro for the first time for lunch today, with my son and daughter. I have mixed feelings about my experience.The food is quite good quality and helpings large, even though called medium, it is a large portion so good VFM. I had the spicy chicken which was OK, not really spicy, although it had a "natural" taste and feel to it. My children had sweet & sour chicken and sweet chilly chicken They though the food better than I did.Unfortunately the one abiding memory I have will be the smell of stale urine from a nearby alley. The seating outside is also shared with many pigeons and they presence is very evident. Whilst the food was OK the surroundings of the table outside and the smell in particular means I will probably not go again. A shame as the restaurant owners cannot be held responsible but it is an issue.

Whilst at university, I spent most my lunches running to and from this place to get the food. Honestly it is so good! Would recommend the spicy chicken on rice but ask for katsu sauce (costs extra but worth it) over it. I miss it so much!

This must be the smallest restaurant in kingston, buy sells a good range of sushi and cooked dishes. The restaurant has only 3 chairs in side but has several outside tables.

From the speed of service, the polite manner of staff, fresh, piping hot dishes and delicious selection of sushi it's the perfect fast fresh food spot. The chicken katsu is by far the top seller, with its crispy chicken pieces and delicious curry sauce.Likewise I've enjoyed their sushi combos and gyoza's.Reasonably priced and also with a queue out the door id highly recommend the experience.

Good takeaway because the staff are quick at taking your order. The food is delicious - you get what you pay for. There is also readymade sushi available on the side to grab and pay. My only problem would be that there are limited dishes for example, when I went there were only 6 dishes available - 2 of them had been run out. However, it's worth having a quick takeaway here because the food quality itself it quite good.

Unexpectedly, this shop was run by Korean. Taste was good. Great service and cheap. You could have a lot of choice though the shop was quite tiny. How wonderful that I did have my curry chicken rice during chilled weather. It also provided 3 tables outside.

Kokoro is a great place to get some of the best Japanese food in Kingston hands-down!They have a great selection, are always VERY generous with the portions and are brilliant value for money.I go every week I enjoy it so much.

Sono stato in questo piccolissimo locale che si affaccia sulla strada per un "pranzo" alle 4 del pomeriggio, il giorno del mio arrivo a Londra. Ho optato per un pollo fritto in salsa di curry su un letto di noodles. Il tutto viene servito in una sorta di grande coppetta di cartone. La coppetta "medium" è davvero sostanziosa e sazia anche il più affamato dei viaggiatori. Consigliatissimo

My favourite takeaway shop in Kingston. Don't expect to get fine dine quality because this shop is meant to serve lower grade Japanese food which tastes like Japanese food. Unlike Namu in Kingston market, Kokoro serves awesome takeaway food. I've always hated Katsu curry but they made me love it. Their katsu is always crispy and the batter is just right! The takeaway salmon box is good portion and reasonably priced too! I've taken away countless Salmon boxes already. 10/10 nevertheless!!

Absolutely love KOKORO!Often visit the Kingston and Wimbledon one as it's so easy and quick to get.I used to buy the sweet and sour chicken until my partner told me to try his Chicken Katsu Curry and it was the best thing I've ever done.I am so totally obsessed with the Chicken Katsu it's so yummy especially with rice as it can be hard to get to the noodles in the container it's in.Probably my favourite place to grab something to eat in Kingston. Would recommend to anyone!

Without a doubt one of the best places for food in Kingston and a definite hangover cure!! Delicious food and more than satisfactory portion sizes! Never once had a complaint, go back time and time again!!

Never disappointed whenever I go to visit kokoro for some lunch. The noodles and stir fried always lovely. This time I had sushi and they tasted fresh and the sushi rice was soft.

This is arguably one of the best restaurants in Kingston upon Thames, 9 times out of 10, the food is impressive and fails to disappoint. Probably their best selling dish is the chicken katsu curry but coming a close second is their sweet chilli chicken. Also worth trying is their spicy chicken curry. Both can be served either medium or large and with rice or noodles. There is also the option of mixing and matching two different dishes for £6 (prices are somewhere in the £4-£6 area). But it because it's popular, you can expect long queues, particularly at lunchtime. Nevertheless, a visit to Kokoro is essential.

Rapide, peu cher et très bon, je vais très facilement y chercher mon déjeuner pendant ma pause ! Le service n'est pas tip top (c'est du fast-food, hein !) mais c'est bien copieux pour le prix. Il y a rarement de la place en terrasse donc je conseillerais plutôt de prendre à emporter.

First time in kokoro and by the end i could barely walk. As we approached it there was a long line and we knew it'd be good ! Chicken gyoza is not great but the chicken katsu tasted like heaven! First you choose the base noodles/rice and then your meat(massive portions bro).the small seating area was full so we went down to river thames(5mins) and devoured ityou can also get udon versions and ready made sushi/gyozaOur total came up to around £15(2 mains 1 side)

I've been here a few times to get a take away on my lunch breaks and every time uv been I've had BAD food poisoning, and when I got the chicken it wasn't even cooked proper , for the price of the food I would be expecting something much better but wouldn't recommend this place and definitely wouldn't go back

Absolutely amazing food, especially the Katsu curry. Service is usually speedy despite the queues being out the door.

Having been a student at Kingston university I will probably miss KOKORO in Kingston the most now that I have moved. It´s an affordable lunch/dinner option, and is superb. I most recommend the chicken katsu and the rice.

Love Kokoro. The sushi in there is delicious. It is always busy and its best to get a take away as there is limited seats inside and a few tables outside. Best time to go is before or after lunch when it is less crowded.

what a great little place, we had some cucumber sushi followed by a very large pot of Chicken Katsu with curry sauce, absolutely fantastic with perfect cooked sticky rice. overall delicious and good prices , will be back soon

As an avid fan of world cuisines, japanese is something I love, recently went to Kokoro in Kingston, and ordered a medium chicken teriyaki with noodles which looked more like a large and found it to be very filling and well cooked with excellent staff service. Would definitely go there again to try something else on their menu. Recommend it.

I ate there yesterday with my boyfriend... I am vegetarian and only could buy noodles (without anything else in it)... my bf got something with chicken and he said his food was very good and tasty... my noodles were ok...is just it was dissapointing that I couldn't get anything else. We both had the large portions which are of a very good size and the price is very good for the quantity of food and the quality of it.I would not recommend it for vegetarians (particularly because there are so many other options in kingston) but for people looking for a quick meal at a good price I'd say...go for it and give it a try :)

Kokoro's spicy pork is very delicious! I enjoy eating this dish as it is somewhat different from traditional recipes - it is made with whole chillies (as opposed to chilli paste). The coriander goes well the pork. I usually eat this with a can of diet sprite (bought from the supermarket). The sweetness of the soft drink counteracts the spiciness of the dish. Very tasty!!

Called in here on Saturday lunchtime wanting something quick and easy. We were all so pleased that we did. It is something more than something quick and easy.It is tasty, filling and cheap. The portions are huge. I had the chilli chicken which was served with noodles or rice. I had soft sticky rice. Other options were sweet and sour chicken, spicy pork, a tofu option as well as other dishes that I can't remember.There we also the biggest sushi pieces and the best seaweed.I will definitely be going here again. So pleased that we found this place.

They should considere more vegan options...and the tofu should be firm instead of soft. It is never well cooked.

I go here regularly for my work lunch. They're always so quick and it fills you up well. Yummy sweet and sour chicken and noodles. Can't go wrong and cheap as well. Definitely recommend this place.

We love Kokoro, especially the one in Guildford which is brilliant every single time. I am afraid that Kingston Upon Thames did not live up to our expectations. The queue was very long at lunch-time, so a long wait. A few tables and seats outside the front of the restaurant, and enough for two/three people to perch inside. We planned to order one sweet chilli chicken with noodles and one katsu curry with sticky rice. When my husband ordered, he was told "no Katsu" which was very disappointing. It was only about 12.45, so not even peak time to have already run out of one of the most popular dishes. So he ordered something else instead. Then there was a problem with the noodles - they had to be reheated in the microwave. We were both really gobsmacked at this ... cold noodles reheated in the microwave? By then we had waited so long that we hung on until the pot had been re-heated. When we sat down to eat, we heard that the next person who ordered Katsu curry got it. Unbelievable - they had not explained that it would be a three minute wait for Katsu curry, but said "no Katsu". A few mouthfuls into my meal (reheated noodles and sweet chilli chicken) I realised that the noodles were warm rather than hot, so I left them The sweet chilli chicken was a delicious and plentiful as it always is. But otherwise, a disappointing experience altogether.

Kokoro is one of those places I will (no joke) go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and enjoy it every time. You just cannot go wrong. YUUUUM.

Small little place to grab a ball of noodles for lunch, it used to be tasty but now I feel like all their food is over cooked and just not tasty, not enough salt or flavor and it's dry. Their sushi also doesn't taste fresh, everything is just not satisfying. On top of that they don't have enough options to choose from and barely any vegetarian meals and the staff barely speak any English. I used to go there now I avoid this place, you better go find somewhere worth it !

My favorite place for a lunch in Kingston. Sushi definitely needs improvement, but bento is just delicious. I will be very happy if one day you will open in Southampton!

Great sushi takeaway for their price. Although being a regular has its up for collecting stamps, it has its downs - as I have realised their standards are slipping, their sushi isn't as exceptional as before, but still good.

I could see some sushi been made at the time as it was busy.Then a member of staff just started putting the rice into moulds ...I was intrigued...Got my phone and searched for it when I realise that this kits are from beginners. I felt insulted ...

This is a nice little sushi/noodle counter where you can get genuine, tasty Japanese food at a reasonable price. Don't get your hopes up for gourmet food but if you need something quick, this is the place to eat. I'd opt for the Salmon Teriyaki which is great! The only shame is that there's nowhere to sit down!

Katsu is out of this world - makes Wagamama seen like dirt! Sweet and sour delicious too. Very flexible with options - get a mixed pot if it's your first time (i think up to 3/4 different things) only £6 and don't have to get rice/noodles - more of the good stuff!!

I have greatly enjoyed over several years the delicious Japanese dishes prepared in this minute takeaway and restaurant. Three very cramped high seats by the door, and outside, a few tables with chairs are also available for 'al fresco dining'. Sushi, sashimi, nigiri, gyoza dumplings, seaweed, edamame beans etc, as well as a good selection of hot noodle and rice dishes are also available, together with an assortment of chilled bottled waters, juices etc. The close conditions inside, on days when sitting outside is not an attractive prospect, demonstrate the loyalty of dedicated customers. The food does not disappoint, and is especially good value for its excellent quality. It would be a great bonus if more space was available, but meanwhile, if you take a seat or take away, enjoy a good authentic, affordable Japanese meal!

Kokoro are fantastic! So well priced and always busy for good reason! Their sweet chilli chicken and chicken katsu curry are my favourites.Can't fault them.
