Kokoro Brighton - North Street in Brighton and Hove

Great food at a good price, but the only issue I have is they out wayyyy to much rice in with the chicken, and sometimes it not very easy to get the person serving the food to adjust the rice to chicken ratio.

Food tasted nice but the portions are so much smaller than they used to be. I also wish they did a kids size, my children love it but an adults portion gets wasted

The young girl clearly have no ideas about how to make coffee OMG I just have to say OMG If you wanna mess your day . Come here As you see pic this drinks should be flat white but is brown water . 🤮

Great portion sizes and consistently delicious food

Food still great for the price just don't treat it as a restaurant and you'll be fine, nock down a star because they consistently are out of miso soup.

Looking for a place to eat, we passed the little Kokoro restaurant in Brighton on North Street and thought we'd give it a go. While the food didn't particularly impress me, it was passable for a quick lunch. I chose a portion of rice with spicy chicken. The chicken was extremely spicy but still, well cooked and with a nice taste if you like spicy food. The person I went with opted for a mix with noodles, with Sweet & Sour chicken and Sweet Chilli Chicken. I tasted these dishes and honestly, I didn't like them at all. The flavors were not well balanced and the sauces seemed too sweet and heavy for my taste. A positive aspect was the attitude of the staff. The sellers were super helpful, friendly and ready to recommend what to choose from the menu if you ask for their advice. Unfortunately, the place is very small with only a few tables available. The tables are usually for two people and are placed very close to each other. There is also a longer table where you can eat if you are alone, but it is not the ideal place if you prefer to have more space or privacy while dining. All in all, Kokoro Brighton can be a decent option if you're looking for a quick and affordable place for lunch, but I wouldn't recommend the noodle dishes, at least not the ones I tried. If you go there, it's good to expect a small space and a simple, no-frills dining experience.

The workers there must not be getting paid enough because clearly they hate serving customers.

There are 2 vegetarian meals to choose from. The curry tofu rice is quite large and suitable for the taste of Oriental vegetarians. There are not many places.

Absolutely love a Kokoro. I pretty much always get tofu katsu and it’s sooo good. Is absolutely instant and fresh and delish every time. Possibly just a fraction too salty, I end up getting 2 drinks.. (genius actually if this is intentional.) But it is fast food I guess, always pretty salty. Very reasonable prices for portions, good service, nice selection of drinks, clean place.

One of my favorite places to grab and go. Delicious, large portions, and good price.

Food was great but charging 30p for extra soy when I’ve already spend £15 on sushi was a bit harsh. I don’t think I’ll be going back, the service was sub standard with rushed low motivated staff.

Reliable and economical. Definitely a staple when in town.

Literally inedible food. I paid £9 for a small bowl of noodles and salmon teriyaki. It was too salty, too sweet, and when I say "too" I mean I literally gagged eating it. I threw it away and went hungry instead. I honestly feel it might have killed me if I'd eaten it. Foul.

Paying 10.65 for large mix match in the end receiving 80% of the food is rice rest is dry chiken absolutely ridiculous! Wasted money. Some people ordering small size and get fully loaded whit meat , staff should act to everyone equally!!!

Food was tepit had to exchange and still just the rice was hot. Staff was helpfull but still the foof should be warm.

As far as fast food goes, Kokoro is pretty good. The portions are decent for the money, I just really wish they had more options for vegetarian mains. The tofu katsu curry is good, but I really wish there was a tofu version of the chili chicken instead. Either way, the quality of the sushi and hot food blows other chains like Itsu out of the water, just don't come in expecting a fine dining experience. The staff are usually super friendly.

Disappointing for the second time, chilli chicken was hard to describe as chicken, I don't know what part of the chicken it was, no part that I recognised!! 😱 It was very fatty and chewy and any flavour it might have had was hidden behind the spicy ingredients. ....I felt like I was eating knee caps and three wobbly chin bit! Not good. Noodles were greasy! No problem with refund and was offered an alternative for free ! Redemption in part! Probably won't go back. Not unless they change their attitude to customers getting value for money. That chicken deserved to be minced in dog food!!! Dreadful.

I enjoy eating here because its consistent. You'll never have a day where the same dish tastes different and your favourites will always be there. I really like the vegetarian options. The prices are a bit high but the portions are hearty, even just a regular is perfectly enough for me. Seating is kinda limited and sometimes tables aren't cleaned after use which is why I didn't put atmosphere at 5 stars but the staff are always very smiley and pleasant, I really love ordering from here.

They are clean and all staffs are super nice, friendly, kind, smile and always try to help customers :) Food is too salty to eat because your sauce will be above rice so rice doesn't help 😂 You can ask them in advance put the rice on the side or something! I paid extra money for the bowl but I'm satisfied 😌 Their rice is also quite great :)

Used to be good but recently the chicken amount is reduced and rice amount increased as well as the price has increased. Disappointed.

Cold food is ok Hot food is recently so bad, honestly it couldnt be more oily. You end up with bad tummy When you go to the store they put more amount of food in the bowls than when you order + the food taste better. Dont bother with the miso soup, doesnt have a taste.

Food is absolutely out of this world! Great service and price to match. If you like Japanese cuisine, you'd love this!

My kokoro obsession has finally come to an end, sigh. I ordered the sweet chilli chicken & beef bugogi today and i was really disappointed with it. The rice was softer than usual. The chicken has no crispy parts which is my favourite. Instead I just recieved big chunks of soft chicken with soft rice. I’m a texture person so I needed a bit of a crunch. the beef bugogi was very dry, no sauce or anything. Usually my fave spot but today turned me off.

Very good food, the best Kokoro in the area.. loved I recommend the scrimps with curry they were amazing

Huge decline in quality. Used to go to Kokoro a lot, always had veggy gyoza and spicy tofu with rice. I don't know what's happened over the past 2 months but it now has absolutely no flavour. The vegetables are always undercooked, the sauce is watery and even the sauce with the gyoza has changed from a soy vinegar mix to just rubbish packet soy sauce. Not going back.

I have just had a very disappointing experience here. I ordered a large sweet chilli chicken which I have tried before and loved. This time however, it was not sweet at all and tasted like there was a fishy sauce. This is a worry for me as I can’t eat fish due to an intolerance. I made the staff aware of this however they were very unaccommodating and refused to give me even a small portion of another meal due to me having already eaten some. This is very confusing as without trying some I wouldn’t have been able to tell that the taste was off. The staff repeatedly stated that there was no fish despite other customers agreeing that there was a fishy taste to the sweet chilly chicken. I ended up having to leave in order to not hold up the line and prevent myself becoming more agitated after being shouted at by multiple staff. This was without any food that I could comfortably eat despite spending £8.95 on the meal. Very disappointing seeing as I would have previously recommended this place to others.

At first, I was surprised at the taste because this shop has the almost same one of my country, and also, deserved the same sweet called Dorayaki and so on. I was happy when I ate food here.

Got a really upset stomach from this place, the staff was very friendly and food looked appealing, but sadly made me really ill.

I always buy sushi from Kokoro. I had the salmon one on Easter Friday and it was absolutely amazing! I was having it with my boyfriend and we both couldn't believe how good it was! Everything from fish to rice was just perfect. Whoever made it did an amazing job, and thank you for that 😊

Delicious food reasonably priced

Very good. Had the Sweet Chilli Chicken with noodles. Decent sized portion, very nice chicken, crispy coating and the sticky sauce was really good. I could taste lemongrass in the sauce which gave it to nice zingy fresh taste. The noodles were good. Staff were very friendly. Good stuff.

Very disappointing experience. I got the completely wrong order (someone else), and they didn’t care to change it even though I’m allergic to things that were in someone else order. Customer service one of the worst I have experienced. I will never order again.

Please don’t waste your money. This place always puts WAY too much salt on their food. The Deliveroo driver was waiting for almost 2 hours. I will never be coming back and telling over to waste their time. It’s given my friend food poisoning before.

Tonight I ordered a Mix and Match, I was delivered chicken with completely raw onion slices, non-existent noodles, a mochi (wrong) with beans, which I detest. A broth that I didn't understand what it was supposed to be for. Horrible experience!

Food ok but the place was filthy , chairs needed a good wipe the floor was vile , sticky tables , the place needed a good clean and it would be ok , it’s laziness

Ordered chicken katsu curry with rice, very reasonable price, friendly staff, and food came very quickly and was delicious! Choice of plastic cutlery or chopsticks, would've liked napkins but it's possible I just didn't see where they were. Pleasant atmosphere and a good range of food

Don't be fooled by the old reviews, the restaurant can't keep up with the delivery orders and are serving horrible watery food. You can see tons of health hazards being ignore by their staff.

Generous portions and tasty food - Loved the tofu curry

My friend and I get good here regularly (1 vegan 1 strictly omni). Good portion sizes and delicious. We usually take away and sit on the beach and its still hot when we get there.

Delicious prawn Katsu + dip, nicely cooked large prawns, crispy thin batter & tasty dipping sauce. The only downside being the sweet n sour prawns with rice : plenty of sticky rice, the prawns were yummy; but as per the store back home in Farnborough, they were "warm" not hot. Bit disappointing.

This is a bit of a hidden gem (ok there are two within 250 metres of each other, so they must be doing something right) but it's a fairly non descript restaurant. The food is great though, prepared sushi and hot food were both delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful and service was swift despite a regular queue of Deliveroo drivers lining up. Well worth a visit!

Brighton has a couple of Kokoro. This location is the best of the two. It has a larger selection of toppings/ meats compared to the other location and they weren’t short of any items. You can pick a couple of toppings for a little more and you can pick a medium or large bowl with rice and the toppings you like. I ordered a couple of meats and they were both delicious! We also ordered spring rolls, which were as delicious as the main meal! This location has few table and seats if you want to dine in.

Bit on the edge on this one. On one end it is cheap, quick and they have a variety of Japanese dishes that you can peek, take a look and then try. But on the other hand can also lack freshness since it is fast food.

best tofu katsu curry I’ve ever had would recommend!! The portions are fab the prices are reasonable and it’s always so fast!

My friends and I enjoyed the food and it was really good. I ordered beef bulgogi and sweet chilli chicken which I recommend. They also have a good portion. And the staff are also nice.

Very polite staff apart from one, who I'm lead to believe is the owner a middle aged Asian woman. Disgusting and rude by the way she was mugged me off for portion food see the picture below £8,45 . There wasn't any need for she attitude and rudeness and mugging ppl, as they were extremely polite, efficient and well presented. Apart from she everyone else excellent

I don't think I've ever taken the time to review a restaurant before, but I ordered dinner from Kokoro to takeaway last night...the food was incredible. I watched the sunrise this morning, and it was the most beautiful sunrise I've ever seen, all because I now know I live in a world where sweet chilli chicken as delicious and thiers, exists. I had the sweet chilli chicken with rice. I loved it, and the portion size was not patronising. It was heafty, and macho. Just typing this out now, I was expecting I would be shaking, and sweating with desire as I recall the rich sweet chilli sauce, as it rested on the succulent chicken pieces, like a techniflavoured coat of love...alas, I am not shaking. I'm merely basking in this moment, with my eyes closed as I'm typing. No, I can't usually type with my eyes closed, it's just that now that I have tasted Kokoro's sweet chilli chicken, I am now able to let the divine speak through me. It's like I have eyes in my fingers, and I'm surrendering myself to the sauce of creation. It's the sweet chilli sauce that imbues Kokoro's sweet chili chicken, with a love so divine. The chicken pieces so tender, that every bite feels like a blessing as the rice occasionally lends it's wisdom, not just as a supporting role in this heavenly gourmet dance, but in harmony. Like two sacred sages having a beautiful conversation. The sauce so rich, and plentiful with flavour, flowing into the humble embrace of the rice, it makes the meal a feast of abundance, nourishing anyone who's called upon to taste it... nourishing them with inspiration, and a deep healing love from within. One of my favourite japanese restaurant in Brighton! I ordered the chicken gyoza , chilli chicken & chicken katsu curry. The food was 10/10. Definitely recommend and staff are really nice.

Very good food for a tad small venue

Very convenient location and range of meat and veggie options. I have been here previously years ago and think its gone a little downhill since. I got the box of veggie gyozas + soy sauce and whilst they were nice, the portion size wasn’t great and I would much rather recommend the gyoza boxes from itsu just up the road. The staff ask if you would like your food heated up which is just them sticking it in a microwave for a minute, and it was still not warm throughout. However, the staff member I spoke to was very lovely.

Its a bit hit or miss - sometimes I get a great Katsu curry, other times it is completely inedible. How much sauce you get also varies wildly. I generally think "I'm not doing that again", but it does hit that "I need some serious junk food" spot if you're lucky.

Servings are much lesser than before. I Won't order again on this branch.

I always love kokoro but in Brighton the sweet chilli chicken here in Brighton wasn't that spicy not like in East Croydon 🔥🔥 also they don't have seafood since my cousin really hoping to have it. Overall the food it's very good The service bit slow if I only got 30 mins break

Food is fantastic and smells amazing as you walk past and enter. Staff were friendly but a bit distracted at the time though I've had no complaints before. If you like Japanese food then I'd recommend paying a visit.
