We have eaten here 3 times now and each time it has been good. The roast dinners are very good - not worth cooking your own when you have the George in your doorstep. Nice vibrant atmosphere too

We came to visit our friend in castle Cary for New Year, we decided we wanted to go out for New Year’s Eve and picked The George in castle Cary !! We ordered our meal starters and mains, our friend ordered the parma wrapped monkfish which was still wrapped in the cling film so glad she didn’t eat it, our granddaughter had the garlic bread which in her words tasted of nothing,The whitebait was very over cooked, the mushroom starter was quite Tasty but very peppery. Mains we ordered 2 lamb leg steaks from the grill menu with chips mishrooms onion ring etc and 1 liver & bacon & Mash and a portion of Chips Chips are very good , our lamb steaks turned out as slow braised lamb shoulder with dauphinois potatoes and veg. We didn’t order this but when we said was told they only had that. Liver and bacon meal was very good . Desserts admittedly was now getting late lots not available so we ordered what we wanted but was told that that then had also sold out . so we went without . The whole meal was pretty much a disaster and I was saddened that we had had such good reports previously, although the staff were very friendly , but it was disjointed and unorganised, so come on the George!! it needs to be sorted better than this or you will just continue to loose customers . This whole meal has put me off re visiting but would hope someone will look at what is going very wrong .

We called in for lunch on Monday 12th November 2018. The premises are a hotel but also provides a restaurant and bars which is open to everyone. Located at the top end of the main street, the hotel is a period thatched property with lots of charm. Inside it is nicely furnished with lots of period features. We had a lovely freshly cooked lunch, from the two for £20 offer. Quality wise it could not be faulted. Our ham eggs and chips came with a quality salad - delicious ! Looking forward to going back again soon.

We went to this restaurant in the George Hotel for my husbands birthday celebration. It was for a Sunday Lunch. The restaurant and bar has a very cosy and warm atmosphere, and is perfect for a cold winters day. Its just what you would expect in England, and it feels very welcoming as you go in. The service was very good, and the food absolutely delicious, all fresh, and cooked to perfection, with lots of choices and very good prices. It was real good , home cooked food, not too fancy, just perfect. We even asked for Yorkshires, for those not having the beef, and this was granted. Would definitely go back.

Popped in here for lunch on a wet and windy Sunday lunchtime, greeted by a nice open fire and real ale at the bar. Service was attentive and friendly and we decided to have a bite to eat in the bar area. Food was very nice and arrived quickly. Overall a nice welcoming bar with good food and beer.

Nice local pub, with a friendly atmosphere. Pub very clean and easily accessible. Jodie/Tracey hit the spot with a lovely Sunday Lunch presented beautifully……great hospitality. Enjoyed chilling over a pint of Guinness and a few baby Guinness chasers.

Can I just say my experience at the bull is always pleasant unless the owner Lucy is there she is rude. & shouldn't be running a pub. Me and my family were at a table having a laugh and a drunk she come over and told us to shutup we were being to loud the juke box was louder than us we could hardly hear our conversations. I mentioned it to someone who was working behind the bar & a few of them said she's always rude to people and to them.. Not the sort of person to run a pub if you ask me sorry!

After such a lovely Christmas meal here in 2023 we decided to return again for 2024. We pre ordered our food using the Christmas menu from their website advertised at £28 for 2 courses. I ordered the fish crumble which was absolutely awful and inedible! It was basically a dish full of bread crumbs, I left very disappointed, if the meal wasn't bad enough we were told when paying that the cost of the meal had gone up to £32 for 2 courses! Despite mentioning that a) my fish crumble was inedible and b) the price they were charging was different than advertised - no offer of a discount was given. Usually we leave this pub very happy with full bellies but it wasn't to be on this occasion. My advice is - don't order the fish crumble from thr Christmas menu !
