KJ Restaurant in Kingston upon Thames

I was looking forward to it since it opened, but I think it's not as good as before in many ways, including the food. And I am disappointed because the ingredients are not fresh.

Another day, another soup. Very good location. It was nice and quiet inside. The service was good and the ladies were friendly.

2nd time here, really great food and super quick service! Felt like V.I.P's. My kids loved it! Everything we ordered didn't disappoint!

New Malden is having many Korean restaurants but KJ offered also Japanese food which fit our need. The tempura is just awesome and sashimi are fresh. We all enjoy the food here

Love the foods and the decorations in the restaurant! Staffs male very friendly but the lady she’s should be more smiling. Anyway it’s all good. 😊 foods was good value abd tasty!

It's 1st time I've been to kJ since the pandemic and the sashimi meal I had was delicious I was lucky enough to sit down next to someone who is having the same meal and we chatted about our selection and really enjoyed the authentic Japanese meal. I would recommend this restaurant for sushi and sashimi they are prepared well, tasty and it's beautifully presented

Korean style Japanese restaurant. One of the few places in New Malden that can accommodate business partners and customers due to the private rooms and the course menu with two options of £40 and £50 per person. There are also many a la carte dishes, so you can enjoy dishes with family and friends according to your budget. As seen in the picture, Korean side dishes are provided free of charge. Giving 0 star review is impossible on Google hence giving it one star. Food is below average and the portion is so little especially the BBQ. I mean 5 small thick pieces of pork belly is just one portion?!!! Also, the young lady that was serving us was so rude and impolite. There are so many Korean restaurants here in New Malden and so I would recommend avoid going to KJ Restaurant especially if you want a good night out for dinner.

We wanted to go Ktown bbq but the wait time was 2hrs and we really need food to eat so we searched and ended up at KJ restaurant. Our expectation wasn’t high but we’re not disappointed because the food was delicious and especially the Spicy and sweet chicken and the Kimchi soup was delicious and spicy

Not recommended! Go to treestone instead! Food takes too long and also the foods that we ordered were not available and when we ordered replacements, some of them were also unavailable. As the restaurant was very busy, we felt like as if the kitchen staff were rejecting the meals that would take a lot of time and effort. The waitresses had to go up and down to the kitchen like 3-4 times just to ask if that food is available. Poor.

Food is salty and greasy. This restaurant is inconsistent in terms of taste (one time it can be bland and another time can be salty but most of the time I came here were very salty). Recommend going to the restaurant next to this one (Yami). Whole lot better and more consistent and better service too! You could sometimes here arguements from the kitchen about how busy the restaurant is and one time during the heatwave in the summer, I heard on my way to the toilet as the lady in the kitchen shouted at one of the waitresses not to take cold noodles when they had it and when the waitress came to me, she said it was sold out which obviously was a lie and plus the customers that came after me had cold noodles!!! It was Lunch (1pm)!!! The restaurant opens at 12, how could it possibly run out by Lunch at 1pm and how could they lie to their customers about having no cold noodles?!?! Wouldn't have mind if they were honest about it.

Food not worth the price. Expensive, inconsistent, slow, poor quality, poor service and poor hygiene. Recommend going elsewhere. Also rumors that they re-use certain foods such as lettuce for the BBQs. Lettuce leftovers that the customers touched and uneaten are used again and given for the customers that orders lettuce with their BBQ. Disgusting! And what's worse is that one of my Korean friend went outside at the back of the restaurant to smoke and saw the lady in the kitchen putting meat that she spilt on the floor back in to the frying pan. Call this good hygiene?!?! Fat chance! Will probably report this to the food hygiene officer if there is one working for the council. 👎👎🖕🖕

2 stars for hot food! But if you want hot and yummy ones, please head across the road, Ha Ru. Because when we walked in, told the waitress for table for 5. She directed us to the table and went to take 4 menus. She put the menu in front of each person except me. She didn’t notice me or she’s just too lazy to go back and get another one? Oh. There’s no cutlery for me too. Am I invisible?! Ordered a variety of food ranging from appetizer, mains and “other dishes”. She said the food will come separately and I requested for it to come together as we prefer it to have it all at the same time. She said she can’t serve all together and the “other dishes” is a starter. WHY? And she can’t explain. The food is just adequate but what impresses me was the hot food. Kitchen staff did well.

Spicy fish stew, salt soup,,, perfect for drinking soju,, Add ecological soup.... I saw the person serving me smile.

The food is delicious, but the servers are very unfriendly. I have no conscience as to whether I am being charged a service charge even though I serve her like that because she is the boss's daughter. I think I would rather hire someone and focus on improving the quality of the store. There are no basic greetings, and you have to throw food down and eat while paying attention. There is a reason why the store is empty compared to other places even though we ate there on a Friday night.

Taste so yummy and especially pork curry was great with huge size of amount. Recomend this place sushi as well! Lived it!

The food was divine, very tasty and big portions for great value. This was my first attempt at a local Korean restaurant and I believe my friends and I will become regulars.

Horrible Quality Zero!!!!!! Expecially pls Don't eat SUSHI & korean cold noodle!! This restaurant is located in the heart of New Malden High Street. As a Korean, I am so embarrassed that this exists!!!

Very small portion of sashimi costs 70 pounds. Don't recommend. If you know the what Japanese and Korean food like, don't go there. Don't understand why people give positive feedback. Even I can make that better at home.

Not sure what the complaints are all about. Everything tasted great, food came quickly. We got kimchi, bean sprout, cucumber on the side and miso soup. Not the cheapest but will come back again.

Never been to a restaurant came across such impolite waitress, later found out she is the Manageress. We saw other tables had side dishes served as soon as they sat down, so we asked for some, she said only served with main course which is not true. My son and husband were in the same restaurant on a different table as we girls had a pre xmas gathering. My son brought over us their side dishes as too spicy for them. Most of our food came still no side dish. We asked them to bring some for us and they said we had it already. We explained that was my husband's table side dishes. The manageress was in a very rude manner saying she would give us this time but not next time. We felt like being accused we wee lying. Even later when my husband paid the bill and told her that he gave us their side dishes. She never came to apologise. Food was ok but not for the price, the dishes are tiny, you can go somewhere for better service. Never seen her smiling to any customer. We would not go back there again and NOT recommend to hold party there if you want a great time. Our party was ruined.

Food was truly awful, over cooked rice and barely any meat in the sea food and beef bibimbaps ordered by me and a friend. The staff seemed also not able to speak English. When we told them how bad and lacking the food was we were met with what can only be described as a stereotypical Asian man nod in agreement. Shame was looking for a good Korean meal and didn't get one! Definitely not worth going to!

Strongly recommended Korean and Japanese restaurant in New Malden

It provides cleaner and fresher food than any other Korean town restaurant, and it doesn't smell of barbecue compared to other Korean restaurants. But every time I go, I always feel that the serving staff are so unfriendly.. So 4 out of 5 stars.

Had a nice lunch here on a busy Saturday. The bento boxes are huge and good value. Food was very slow though (took one hour) and they don't have a kids menu. You can eat here with kids but don't expect the treatment you'd get at a high street chain. Maybe pop to Waitrose or go for a walk while the food is being prepared while one person stays at the table. Tried the beef short rib (la galbi) but chicken bulgogi was better value as you get more and it is a lot cheaper (and not too sweet).

Decent food, decent service, I’ve tried a number of both Korean and Japanese dishes here over the years and they have been consistently good 😊 (I was worried about the quality after the lockdown but it seems they have kept the standard 🙏)

Love the Gganpunggi! So juicy and tender. Not too spicy, nor too sweet. LA galbi is on the chewy side, samgyeopsal is good with lettuce and ssamjang. Minimum 2 portions for table top BBQ. Charcoal is used, which is a big plus. Staff are friendly, toilets are clean, tap water is available (as required by law), not too expensive, service charge added to final bill

If you’re deciding between different Korean places in New Malden, and are considering this restaurant, then just go with it, the food is excellent and you won’t regret your choice. The Korean dishes are authentic and served in good quantities with lovely ‘banchan’ (sides) and rice. Portions are good, and the Japanese selection including sushi is of a good quality and a nice bonus.

I was a little skeptical to visit after reading reviews but a Korean friend recommended this restaurant to me so I decided to go with my friend and my daughter for lunch. So glad we went! Lovely service from the young man working Weds afternoon. Food was delicious, portions very generous! When I asked for a small spoon for my daughter the waiter bought over a kids cutlery set, very much appreciated. We ordered two bento boxes and an udon set with sushi, we were so full! We requested a takeaway box for our leftovers and this was given to us with no problems. Really happy to recommend KJ and looking forward to coming back again soon.

(X WAS HERE) Ordered Ribeye Steak (not very tasty) and Beef Bulgogi (too small portion) and few others. Quick but terrible service. Still gave tip however I won't come back, it's not worth it.

Very busy during the eat out to help out days. Need to book in advance. Seems to be authentic Korean. The lettuce is very fresh. The beef bulgogi is only ok. Bibimbap is a nice one.

DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE! I went to KJ with my mates to have dinner. We went in quite late at night the "owner" of the restaurant said it's fine for us to come in and order as the restaurant closes at 23:00. We sat down and as we were making our order, another group of customers came in and made their order right after us. Roughly 10mins later they were served with drinks and side dishes however we were only served with water. The other group received their appetiser however we were still sipping our small cups of water which by now had finished. 30min had passed, the other group were on their second course. We wait patiently and at this point we questioned the UNFRIENDLY waitress, who cannot even crack a smile at us, when our food would arrive. To which she replied another 10-15 mins. We sat there for good 45mins now. Still no food. On the other hand the other group has already had nearly ALL of meals come through and had been eaten. Bare in mind we ordered same meals. I ask the owner/chef/ guy wearing a kimono of the restaurant when is the food coming as we have been waiting for 45mins now. He doesn't apologize neither does he have an excuse. He laughs and goes into kitchen. Within that 45min we haven't been served side dish let alone our food. Our water has not been refilled. We were never updated on when our food will be ready or why is it running late. There were only 3 groups of customers in that restaurant at that time as it was late at night. The waitress only seems to smile at other customers whom happens to be all Korean. At this point it we've had enough so we had to leave. Don't get me wrong there are restaurants I've been to in new Malden that are far better than KJ. So if you want authentic Korean food go to Treestone, HARU, YAMI, Kang Nam these are the ones I've been so far and higly recommend. Great customer service and mouth drooling foods.

Great combination of Korean and Japanese cuisine. The stuff is nice and very professional. The place brings a bit of different vibe than others but in a good way. I would strongly recommend it. I love Bibimbap !!!

Service is very very slow. Have been sitting here for 40 mins (yes we are still waiting) and only the starter has been served. Understaffed and waitress isn’t friendly.

Very slow and bad service. No free side dishes. Not even free kimchi. The seafood is not fresh, especially the crab. Taste horrible. Not worth the price. Will never go there again.

Terrible service, average food There are so many restaurants offering similar food at similar price range in New Malden there really is no need to put up with poor service. There is nothing special with KJ's menu. The quality of the food is okay (though no good either) but the service is so terrible one really shouldn't bother. It's time restaurants like this start to appreciate their customers who after all keep them in business (or otherwise).

Best sushi place in New Malden. It can be pricey, so why don't you try the place at lunch time first? I only goes there occasionally, but dishes are always good- fresh and delicious.

Been there twice, unpleasant experience due to the staff, food took very long time, never said sorry and they add 12.5% service charge? Will never return unless they change their staff (especially the young women) Food is just about average, that was neither authentic Korean nor Japanese. Too much MSG surely. Dont recommend. 스태프가 불친절하고 음식이 오래걸리고 팁 12.5% 추가합니다. 음식은 너무 짜고 MSG맛이 강합니다. 비추합니다.

Young staff make us unpleasant and she didn't say anything even costs at all when I pay. Admittedly, here should be around 3 point.

I went there after seeing it advertised in Eurojournal and was really disappointed. The girl serving me was so angry that I was scared to talk to her and the food wasn't that good... The salted fish smelled fishy... The udon was really just udon and oden with hot water poured on top. .. Later, the host couple even got into a fight with all the single guests.. I laughed out of embarrassment with the other family members who went with us. I don't know if it was just that day, but I don't think we will ever go, and if our friends do, they will stop us. It's impossible to give no stars at all, so I'll give you one.

Very nice restaurant with charcoal BBC...but service so slow we have to wait nealry 30 min to be served on table especially with 2 kids when we asked them to be quick for kids. but nice food and fresh it was Saturday hopefully they can improve and I can change my review.

I went with my girlfriend as I heard they do good food here from my friends. They had plenty of menus to choose from, so many to choose! I asked the young waitress to help who was very lovely and she recommended some dishes. Me and my girlfriend (who is quite picky) was not disappointed at all. Kimchi jjigae was spicy full of flavour, salmon teriyaki bento was very well cooked with lots of small dishes that accompanied each other. Would definitely bring my family over for a nice meal.

My wife and I had Korean foods here. They were OK. My daughter had a Japanese dish, it was not as good as Korean one. I think it is better to have Korean dishes here, rather than Japanese one.

Great food, great service and good value. Lunchtime set menus are obscenely good value!
