We have come here several times now for lunches and it’s always delicious food and lovely service! The staff are polite and kind. The food is amazing and very good portion sizes! I thoroughly recommend coming here! It’s lovely in the summer outside too.

Sitting here wrapping up a wonderful dinner - so lucky to have this place on our doorstep. So much to shout about - cosy atmosphere, varied menu, faultless dishes, fabulous wines and attentive, friendly service. They dealt with my dietary requirements perfectly. Thank you for a lovely evening!

We went for the quiz, as we had heard it’s brilliant, and it did not disappoint! We have done quite a few pub quizzes around Hitchin and this was the best by far. The Quizmaster is funny and imaginative with the rounds, and we had so much fun. Our group had a selection of small plates from the bar menu and it was all delicious - especially the treacle and ale soda bread! Booking for the foreseeable - only downside is it’s only once a month!

What a gorgeous place - really good menu, and delicious food, well priced and great service - the girl on reception was lovely (can’t remember her name - she was good fun) and she looked after us so well. Beautiful decor too!

Lovely place for lunch. The staff were so friendly and nice. I was there with my friend’s kids who the staff were really great with. The food was nice, I went for the chicken Sunday roast, it was tasty and nice that the gravy was refillable. I just thought it was a bit overpriced for what it was.

Back in the day my friend and I used to go to the Red Hart for drinks with the cool people of Hitchin. We always used to like it as the pub had an indie vibe and there was great music being played. Time passes and we were in the area so decided to pay it a visit. The pub is very different from how we remembered it. Nowadays is more of a bar and place to get something to eat. The decor is really nice and relaxing and we enjoyed having a drink there and reminiscing. Very pleasant indeed.

Atmosphere is magical with beautiful lighting. We were given a choice of tables and shown to a very romantic circular one in the corner which suited me and my boyfriend. Jo was brilliant and responded sensitively to us needing more time to choose. He was super asking if I wanted a large white wine (which I did!) as I don’t like mediums!!! He was so great checking in if the food was good, if we needed more drinks and asked us if we wanted dessert, kindly gave us time to finish our wine and was super efficient at bringing us our bill. He has been the epitome of solicitousness! We are coming back because it was so much quality and value than Los Reyes, and a better atmosphere than Lussmans.

Superb! We stopped in here on spec for Sunday lunch. From the outset the staff were all friendly, charming and professional. It was a sunny day so we sat outside in the beautiful, quaint, old courtyard, which was transporting. We had the glazed pork collar and black pudding Scotch egg to start, then the roast beef dinner. One of the best roasts we’ve had out in a long time! It was beautifully cooked, well composed, the Yorkshire home-made, the beef sirloin cooked medium-rare, the roasties to die for, sumptuous cauliflower cheese. And they were considerate enough to leave a little jug with extra gravy in on the table which I think is a very nice touch indeed as we all like different quantities on our Sunday roasts, don’t we. The whole meal was delicious. The portions were definitely not stingy and we left feeling very satisfied and that we’d a had a very good experience. I hope we’re in Hitchin again some time soon so we can go to the Kite again!

Jess, Alfie and the team at The Kite were great at helping me organise my bridal shower in the Marshall room this past Friday. Jess was brilliant with communication over email and on the evening of the event! Alfie did an amazing job of helping us set up the evening before and provided a fantastic service (always with a smile)! The presentation and the taste of the food was 10/10 and chefs were very accommodating. I highly recommend The Kite for any event, dining or just for a drink. I cannot recommend the staff at The Kite any higher! Whether it has been responding on email correspondence to making sure everything was ready on the night. We hired The Marshall Room upstairs for a 40th Birthday and it was perfect. Special thanks to Jess & Freya and barman Jamie on the night. Thanks for providing such an excellent venue & service.

As always people consider food utmost in teviews, but for us good food with poor service doesn't work. This restaurant had the utmost polite and well established service. Hence our many return. On this occasion it was an anniversary celebration and the courtesy edtended to us in celebrating was outstanding. This is why this restaurant is our go to place for a Sunday meal . As always the food is brilliant and the prices are not excessive. I cannot recommend any other place for a Sunday meal regardless of celebration than this place ... well done and thank you :)

Came for the first time for lunch today. Service was great but felt sorry for the lady on duty as she was alone with the place filling up quickly. We shared the two for £15 starters having the cheese croquettes and duck liver parfait. The cheese croquettes were good, the garlic mayo was a great accompaniment. the duck liver was accompanied by cherry jam which was excellent, unfortunate that we couldn’t finish it because we were only given a single small slice of toast. For mains we had the fish and chips and burger. The fish was good but rather oily, the burger was bad, over cooked, with under cooked raw fat streaky bacon without the promised treacle taste. We left 3/4 of the burger untouched but wasn’t asked why or what was wrong. No salt or pepper on the table and all the food needed seasoning.

Love this place! Amazing food with a great atmosphere and fantastic service. Great for those who have children as well. They host monthly grapes and babes events which are fantastic!

I've been going to Kite at The Red Hart for about five years, and it seems to somehow get better each time. The food is fantastic, and they have excellent holiday/seasonal menus. They also serve some of the best sticky toffee pudding I've ever had.

Quiz night! Great quiz and great food.The Chicken leg & smoked bacon pasty on the side of the cornfed chicken breast was the star of the evening, the gnocci was great too! The quiz was inventive and hilarious, and service was fantastic - a fab night out in Hitchin!

Absolutely delicious food, delightful staff, gorgeous atmosphere - we have had the perfect evening! Liv looked after us beautifully with some surprise sweet treats to celebrate our anniversary. Thank you so much to the Kite team! We’ll definitely be back!!!

Alfie was a super waiter. Other staff kind and attentive and extremely pleasant. Roast chicken was delicious and very generous portions. Miso wellington was very tasty . We hadn’t booked a table however all Staff were very accommodating!

We had lovely meals here to celebrate a birthday. The food was delicious and they were terrific catering for someone with celiac in our party. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer nor more professional and she and the kitchen staff surprised us all with a little post dessert treat! Not our first time and once again it was absolutely brilliant. We were served by Liv who was so attentive throughout our meal, and enthusiastic about the menu with her great recommendations. Delicious food, great cocktails, buzzing but not overly noisy atmosphere, and a couple of complimentary additions that made our celebration special. Thanks and we will definitely be back again.

The Team here at Kite, at The Red Hart provided the catering for my 60th birthday for 120 people in my garden a couple of weeks ago. The food, service , and the overall experience were all outstanding. Everyone raved about the selection of food available and the quality of every item. The Team also provided an extensive bar service, which was equally amazing. They exceeded my expectations and that of my guests and helped make my birthday party an event to remember. Tell all your friends how wonderful this team is, I certainly will be.

We attended the first Grapes and Babes (bring your baby wine tasting) earlier this month and it was great! Brilliant nibbles and expertly run. We’ll be back!

Celebrated our anniversary here and it was a wonderful experience! The service was outstanding and made the evening feel special. My coeliac partner had plenty of gluten free options - including the complimentary dessert! The rump steak was a solid choice and the peppercorn sauce / triple cooked chips were delicious. Highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding.

Just for beers this visit. Lovely pub with great outside area for a town drinking establishment. Nice range of drinks, including their own, and a super atmosphere. Recommended.

I had the pleasure of photographing my lovely florist friend from Rose & Carter's magnificent table scapes. This was a Thai themed wedding and Kerrie didn't disappoint. The venue is a wonderful place perfect for small gatherings and intimate weddings.

We hired the private room upstairs after my babies baptism and it was absolutely perfect. The space is lovely and modern, there were beautiful dried flowers on the tables and a lovely long table for all the food. The kite were so accommodating and allowed us to come the night before to drop off decorations and food. (This was due to no event the day before so this may not always be the case but do allow you in an hour before the even too). The staff on the day were really lovely and all the guests said how much they enjoyed the afternoon. Would absolutely recommend the kite for any private functions and will be booking again myself! We took our own food for this occasion but I have eaten at the kite in the past and the food is 10/10 too

Very nice pub with excellent food. Everything a bit on the steep side, especially things like bread and butter which, whilst very nice, are priced outrageously. We had a lovely meal though and would go back happily.

I had my baby shower here on the 4th February 2024 in the Marshall room. I wanted a low key baby shower where I could meet up with several friends, have a lovely roast and a catch up but also want it to feel special - having it at the Kite made this possible. There was 25 of us there, all our food come out piping hot and together, it was delicious, the menu was varied so met all dietary and taste requirements. We had a waitress assigned to us upstairs and served from the bar upstairs so it meant family and friends could have a good drink which is what I wanted. The team leading up to event were great and nothing was too much to ask for, my friends and sisters took over the organising after my initial booking and they said the plans and order sheets provided by the kite made organising very easy. The team let my sisters and friends in early to decorate, the Kite team also had the tables decorated lovely and in theme with tall candles and everyone had their own individual name place mat. I had the most amazing afternoon and it was exactly what I wanted I cannot thank the team enough especially Jess and Freya who were great with the organising. We will defiently be looking to host another event here again.

Absolutely amazing! Had a spontaneous decision to give this place a go for the first time and so glad we did! The staff were amazing and welcoming, food was some of the best we've had in this town and reasonably priced! Personally, I want the recipe for their cider bread! Never had anything like it! Strongly recommend!

This place is fantastic! The food was absolutely delicious. I went for a beef roast which was delicious and hit the spot! At our table a couple of people got the burger, which they raved about, and one person got the pie, he also had good things to say. The beef was sliced finely and cooked exactly how I'd expect, medium-rare. The roast was served with roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, cabbage, a lovely crisp Yorkshire pudding, and delicious honey carrots. The potatoes weren't quite as fluffy as I'd like then, but they were very good. The beef was tender and juicy, and for me the star of the dish! My mouth melted whilst eating the cauliflower cheese, which is exactly what you want from a dish covered in creamy cheese. Overall the meal was brilliant, and I highly recommend the Kite for their roast! For dessert, (and yes I know getting this after a roast was very ambitious!) I got their apple crumble and custard. The crumble was crunchy, just as I like it, and the apple filling flavours were devine. Unfortunately, the custard was not quite right, (a bit curd) and so I only had a little. But with the sweet taste and textures of the crumble I was very satisfied. The venue has a welcoming and cosy atmosphere, and the staff are friendly and very welcoming. This venue is a dog friendly pub, which I love! They have a no dog dining area, as well as a dog friendly dining area. Usually, pubs don't invest in a nice dog friendly dining area and you're placed in front of the bar on a small table. However, at the Kite you can experience their delicious food with your fur friends and sit in an area that's just as lovely as the no dog zone. If you're looking for a pub to visit for food or just drinks in Hitchin, I highly recommend coming here.

Was looking for somewhere to have Sunday roast for some time now. This place was listed as one of the top places in Hertfordshire serving Sunday roast so I thought I would give it a try! I was not disappointed, I was actually positively surprised! Food was delicious and presentation was excellent. Service was truly incredible- a lot of young professionals hired at this restaurant/bar. Staff were helpful, polite and service was smooth. It’s good to see young people taking their job seriously and providing top customer service. Thank you for having us and I will be returning!

Never had a bad meal here. Service always very good. Quite expensive though, but worth it for a special occasion.

I have to compliment FOH team, everyone was friendly, found us a table although it was a very last minute booking, service was attentive. However food was disappointing. Seeing only 4 mains on the menu, one would expect them being fabulous. Both our burger and pie were okay but nothing more than in an average pub, except the price. We were expecting a really nice meal but what we got I could compare to M&S food, nice but not wow. I won’t return and won’t recommend.

We went to the hart today for lunch with some friends with (between us) two babies a toddler and a dog - and made a mess with drinks being poured everywhere by the babies - me and my husband have done a fair bit of eating out as a family of 4 but have never been made to feel so welcome and accepted despite the chaos we bring - your staff did such a fab job. We held our wedding reception in the stretch tent and Marshall Room in Sept 2023 and from initial contact with Ben and Jess the service was excellent. We had lots of email communication as well as in person meetings to discuss all the details, were given plenty of recommendations and the day was everything we could have wanted. We had a drinks reception and canapes in the stretch tent followed by their signature grazing table and late night hot food in The Marshall Room and it was all incredible. Jess and the team helped ensure the day ran smoothly, helped put up decorations and did everything to make sure we were happy. The service and food was amazing - guests are still commenting on how delicious the food was! We want to thank Jess, Ben and the team for everything they did to help and make our small, informal wedding reception the best day!

We had a fabulous Jones Hunt Keelings Christmas Party hosted in the private room. Staff were very attentive and efficient. Dinner was good and generous portions. You looked after us so well, nothing was too much trouble, thanks to Ben, Jess and the team

A bit delayed in posting this but we couldn’t go without acknowledging the fantastic experience we had at The Kite 😊 We hosted my father in laws 70th birthday in the Marshall private dining room on Saturday the 7th of October. Jess was great on comms in the run up to the day suggesting cocktails, timings, seating plans, organising place cards etc The food, drink and service from Jess’ team were exceptional and we brought a birthday cake in for Colin which was on display for the evening along with balloons and some photos. The Marshall room has got so much character to it, just removed from the hubbub of the main bar but with a lovely view of the courtyard. I would highly recommend the Kite at the Red Hart to anyone planning a big celebration! 🥳🥂🎉

Have not been here for years, used to be the best pub in town, now a restaurant obviously the atmosphere is completely different as is the interior, as a pub it was quite spit and sawdust now it is a refined tastefully decorated intimate venue. The food is excellent and cooked perfectly, well presented with good service. Had Sunday roast that was excellent.

It was ok, never got x1 starter, had to remind them to get our drinks, no steak at 19:55, unsure if I will return as it was every expensive

We had our wedding reception at the Kite and it was the perfect day! We knew we wanted to work with a venue that would tailor the day to what we wanted and Ben and his team were an absolute pleasure to work with from day one! They listened to our ideas and provided such helpful guidance with their own experience of events to create our perfect day. Nothing was too much trouble and Ben was always on hand to answer our questions. We could not recommend working with Ben enough if you want a stress free run up to the day! On the days itself, the attention to detail was impeccable. The food was incredible and the staff were fantastic. The team took care of everything which allowed us to have a completely stress free day and allowed us to actually just enjoy our wedding! We wanted a relaxed day, epic food and a great party and the kite delivered that and more for us! Our guests could not stop complementing the staff, the food and the venue itself. Everyone had a fantastic day! Thank you Ben, Jess, Olly, Henry and the rest of the team….you really gave us the perfect day! We just wish we could do it all over again!

We held our wedding reception at the Kite this September for 79 day guests, and around 20 evening guests. We had the best time and cannot thank the management team (especially Ben and Jess) enough for their professionalism and hard work in the build-up and on the day itself. They were approachable and communicative at all stages of the process, and helped us create the day we really wanted with a fun and stress-free atmosphere throughout. We would highly recommend you consider hosting your wedding reception at this beautiful venue. Or if you're not getting married, just to visit for a drink and some food! You won't regret it.

Thank you to Ben and his team for making our wedding Day perfect! We were looking for a venue that was classy and offered something more unique than your standard reception venue. When we first met Ben his enthusiasm and ideas won us over and we knew that this was going to be the perfect venue for us. During the planning phase, Ben was always there to answer any questions and reassure us regarding any concerns or ideas. When we went for the taster session we were spoilt for choice, ALL the food was phenomenal! We decided on the canapes & bowl food which were incredible, and we had so many compliments from family & friends, they were literally wowed by the food & service. We decided to hire the entire venue for the day so got to make use of all the various rooms and outside areas. Ben & his team created the lovely signage and helped us set up a child friendly area in the Marshall room for the children attending, which was a huge bonus for the parents. Ben was also super helpful with recommendations regarding the evening entertainment. We hired the band Road Runner who really got the party going in the evening and had so many compliments from guests regarding how good they were, plus the amazing DJ Kenz who kept things going till late on. We would highly recommend hiring the Kite for your wedding reception! The venue is stunning, the staff are helpful, hardworking and above all welcoming. Their attention to detail, positive approach & can-do attitude are just some of the reasons we are so glad we chose the Kite. A BIG thank you to Ben & his team.

I held my husband's 40th birthday at the Kite and could not have been more happy with it! From the very start Jess was incredibly helpful with all my questions and requests and nothing was too much trouble. I was a bit nervous about it all coming together on the day but it was perfect! All the guests said the venue was amazing and loved the party. It was over lunchtime and I wanted a casual feel so we had the feasting platter which was delicious (again lots of compliments from the guests!). And a special mention to Dan who was on the bar who was fabulous! Ten out of ten, would recommend.

We are so delighted with our choice of The Kite for our wedding reception - which was perfect; so much fun and exactly what we had wanted. We hired out the whole venue for the day and had the best canapés ever, the amazing Kite grazing table, and then really good bowl food (Ragu, risotto and panzanella salad) in the evening. Everything was fantastic - food was delicious and complimented by everyone, staff were amazing and looked after everyone, including those with special dietary requirements, so attentively, table set up etc looked so nice and the general vibe was perfect because (and this is the best thing) Jess and the team at the Kite were so thoughtful and interested in personalising the day for us and making it what we wanted. The attention to detail was amazing and surpassed our expectations - and they were just generally a delight to work with in the run up to the wedding. Accomodating, kind and generally awesome. 100% recommend - we can't say enough good things!

We celebrated our company 40th anniversary at the Kite in the garden under the fantastic stretch tent and it was simply perfect, everyone had such a lovely time. Right from the initial booking, communication was fantastic and all questions were answered quickly and thoroughly and the level of care and organisation continued all the way through to the end of the night. The staff were fantastic and couldn't be more accommodating and friendly and the food was absolutely delicious, everyone was commenting on how good it was and how well presented it was too. Thanks so much to all involved, highly recommend and we will definitely be back!

We recently had our wedding reception at the kite and we simply couldn’t recommend them enough. From start to finish Jess and Ben’s attention to detail, can do approach and general loveliness shone through. They were open to our ideas whilst having some great tips on how we could make our day unique. The service was outstanding on the day from all the team too. We opted for a sit down wedding breakfast for about 60 in the stretch tent and a grazing board for our evening guests (about 80 folk in total so quite a big do). It was a perfect summers evening and the kites facilities lends itself to this beautifully with all our guests dancing in the courtyard - such a fabulous buzz. For us it was the perfect blend of an informal reception but with real style, class and intimacy. Nothing was ever too much trouble and the team were nothing short of exceptional throughout, from all the tiny details to delivering an epic feast and a grazing table that people won’t stop talking about! We knew the kite would do an amazing job but it was so so much better than we ever imagined. If you are considering a wedding in the heart of hitchin with incredible food and an amazing ambience and service - look no further!

The best roast beef I've ever had.

The Kite Team are incredible! They catered and supplied the bar at our wedding, mening lots of planning in advance. Ben was super, we had several appointment talking through options, he supported with the order of the day, organised the hiring of the chiller trailer and all the table supplies. Ben came and hosted a food tasting evening where everything was prepared and made in their Kitchen, the delicate serving all seasonal and complimenting to our requests and likes. We choose a simple buffet style wedding breakfast which included slow roasted lamb finished off on the green egg, marinated chicken, beautiful colourful salads and several breads and dips. Then in the evening a full grazing table with all our favourite cheese, meats, fruits, dips the lot… The attention to details and the ‘anything is possible’ attitude is where The kite is so talented.

Love having a cheeky Thursday drinking here with my husband whilst our daughter is at therapy

We recently had the absolute privilege of hosting our wedding reception at the Kite. Ben, Jess and the team were absolutely exceptional and could not have done more for us. In the build up the communication was excellent and no questions were left unanswered. The venue itself was absolutely stunning and they put so much effort into helping us and our vendors to make things perfect, including some last minute changes due to the weather. We had so many compliments about how brilliant all the staff were on the day. We opted for a full day hire of the whole venue and a grazing table for the evening … words can’t describe how delicious this was, our guest are still talking about the sausage rolls to this day! We had a number of guests with gluten allergies and this was catered to with ease! Thank you so much Ben, Jess and the team, you all truly made our Wedding Day one to remember!

I spent some of my hen do in the beautiful Marshall Room. It was perfect. The staff were great. The room is stunning. The grazing board was insane! Just lovely. Thank you so much!

We had team event for work for half a day and I have to say it was amazing. The food and the set up was great and we had an amazing time. The staff at Kite are very friendly, approachable and very accommodating! Thank you once again!

Great private upstairs area, really great food - as a vegetarian there were good options. Most importantly - really great coffee as well!

Lovely venue for an event and the food was really amazing. Very friendly staff throughout the day. All topped off with a delicious evening meal! Highly recommended.

Popped into Kite for the mid week special. Started with the freshly made treacle soda bread which was delicious and went perfectly with my nori salmon and my husbands wild rabbit terrine starters. This was followed by old spot pork sausage and garlic mash. I had the celeriac sausages which were outstanding and the miso coal grilled cabbage as a side which was terrific. All in all, a real treat, ultimate comfort food with excellent service. We were in the bar as we had two dogs with us (they rated the sausages highly too!).

Great Sunday lunch, portions generous, wonderful home made Yorkshire puddings and lovely truffle cauliflower cheese, would highly recommend it
