Came in for food this afternoon and the new trainee Zack served me, who was very helpful and seemed to be picking things up quite well! Food was delicious as always, lovely vibe at the bar

We booked for Sunday lunch as we were visiting my sister, one of her favourite places to go and we can see why - thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely atmosphere, great decor, attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff and the food is off the chart - absolutely delicious! I have dietary issues and they were happy to make adjustments for me, for which I was very grateful.

I think this is the best food in Hitchin - only reason for the 4 stars was the pudding, bit of a muddle (loose the white chocolate crumb!) but the muscles were to die for, am going back to have them as a main. The Hake was perfect and the 'pickled fennel' a revelation. Also the staff - really lovely people, just the right side of attentive - Lachlan (Scottish) chatted to us before we left, lovely young man.

Came here for a friend’s birthday. Was served by Liv as our waitress and Jess at the bar who provided impeccable service. The food was to die for. We have been before and are never disappointed, so we always return! Always recommend to everyone.

I’ve been a regular for drinks at the Kite since I moved to Hitchin, but went recently for a meal in the restaurant and could not have been more impressed. We were greeted quickly and sat for an intimate valentines meal - served by Liv, who was both friendly and knowledgeable on the food they served. The soda bread was recommended by Jess and was hands down some of the best I’ve had, along side Guinness butter. We then had the croquettes, and I chose the Veggie burger after seeing it on their socials - I even said at the time that it was the best veggie burger in Hitchin, made better by the fact that vegan cheese and bun was an option, but I was able to have it exactly the same as their meat burger, just with a meat substitute. My girlfriend had the vegetarian/vegan orzo, which she was equally impressed with, and it’s great to see that they had multiple options for people with dietary restrictions that were just as well thought out as the rest of the menu. Despite being pretty full, we knew we had to try a dessert, so shared the chocolate parfait, which made it clear that the dessert menu is really where Kite rises above the rest. We paired it all with a recommended wine, and ended up moving through to the bar area to finish our evening drinks in the more casual seating. All in all, I can’t see anywhere else in the area making as much of an impact as this place does, and going forward it’ll be a must-visit for both an exceptional meal, or just a casual drink.

Our favourite restaurant in hitchin. Great food and drinks, held my husband’s 40th there and they were lovely.

We went to eat roast. The pork one is very delicious, crispy on the edge. To share the very delicious roast cauliflowers and the treacle soda bread too. We don't have desserts. They accept children and have a high chair for them.

We held a belated Xmas work do at The Kite. The staff were really helpful and responsive during the arrangements. On the night the room looked lovely and the service was brilliant. Thank you to the team!

We booked the restaurant for our anniversary, and added this as a note on our booking, not expecting anything. We were greeted by very friendly staff who took our coats and led us to our table. We were then brought two glasses of prosecco (on the house) as it was our anniversary. The food is absolutely delicious, on the pricer side, but you do get what you pay for. The clotted cream mash was amazing! The waitress then brought us a plate with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate and two mini mince pies (again on the house). It was a lovely touch and very much appreciated. I shall definitely go back here, as it was delightful all round. Great location, decorated really nicely, friendly and polite staff.

Christmas Eve Dinner at the Kite was ok. Staff were lovely but seemed to be rather stressed: there were A LOT of them but it didn’t feel attentive per say. Food was overpriced: my husband had a turkey meal that said to contain pigs in blankets… it was literally ONE sausage wrapped in bacon. From the plural form in their menu we expected more. Food was nice but it wasn’t too special and not plenty giving the hefty price tag. Potatoes were definitely reheated as they were rather hard. Ultimately it was a nice dinner but not worth the price tag. We paid over £60 for two mains and two beers and we definitely expected more. It’s probably the most expensive pub dining around the area and not worth the hype.

We sat in bar area with our dog, staff the most helpful and professional of any pub I have ever been in!! Food whilst not cheap, it is EXCELLENT. No hesitation recommending here!!

While you might crave more, the meal’s balance leaves you perfectly satisfied. After the starter and dessert, you might even wonder if you’ll need to loosen your belt. The white pudding starter, paired with a perfectly runny egg and a tangy-sweet apple sauce, was a delightful beginning. However, the spiced pumpkin pudding stole the show. Each warming bite delivered everything you want in a winter dessert, a perfect balance of sweetness, spice, and texture. The kitchen team deserves immense praise for their skill and creativity, and their recent accolades are clearly well-deserved. Drinks: If there’s one area for improvement, it’s the drinks. While the selection of whisky is excellent, the default serving over ice may not suit all preferences. Adding an option for neat serves would be a thoughtful touch, allowing guests to tailor the experience to their liking. Additionally, expanding the whisky selection to include more peaty options, and perhaps introducing a cigar menu with a designated outdoor space to enjoy both, would elevate the experience further. Overall: The Kite offers an unforgettable dining experience. Every element—from the inviting atmosphere to the seamless service and exceptional food demonstrates a commitment to excellence. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect, making it a wonderful place to share a meal with close friends. I can’t wait to return and savor more of what this remarkable restaurant has to offer.

Atmosphere is magical with beautiful lighting. We were given a choice of tables and shown to a very romantic circular one in the corner which suited me and my boyfriend. Jo was brilliant and responded sensitively to us needing more time to choose. He was super asking if I wanted a large white wine (which I did!) as I don’t like mediums!!! He was so great checking in if the food was good, if we needed more drinks and asked us if we wanted dessert, kindly gave us time to finish our wine and was super efficient at bringing us our bill. He has been the epitome of solicitousness! We are coming back because it was so much quality and value than Los Reyes, and a better atmosphere than Lussmans.

Lovely pub (especially outside in the nice weather) would be nice if they had a couple of extra Ale options.

My mother and I celebrated our birthdays at the kite. We booked their private marshal room for 38 altogether and had a lovely dinner followed by dancing upstairs. The team were amazing (special mention to Alfie for excellent service!!), food was delicious and the space was beautiful. We had our wedding ceremony and reception at Kite at the Red Hart in November 2024. The team made the wedding planning process incredibly easy and stress-free. They liaised with suppliers and communication was great. We had the option of having specific beer/wine/cocktails which was a lovely touch. The team also had wedding signage made for us in our particular style. These details made it so special and bespoke. The venue is stunning, very modern yet very cosy and intimate which was exactly what we wanted. We were able to officially get married at the venue in their upstairs ceremony room which is beautifully decorated. Our guests said the food was the best wedding food they’ve ever had and we certainly agree! We wanted particular canapés which the chef happily accommodated and it was all delicious. We also had the chance to meet the chef to discuss options for the main food and grazing table which was beautifully presented (and tasted amazing!). They catered to various dietary restrictions including gluten free, vegan and allergies. We had live music and a dance floor area with the bar nearby which was perfect for the evening reception and party! There were so many drink options available and an amazing cocktail menu. The staff on the day of the wedding were outstanding, incredibly helpful, attentive and friendly. They made sure all of our guests were looked after and ensured the day flowed perfectly. We would highly recommend this venue if you want a fun, modern, intimate and unique wedding ceremony and reception all in one place!

We have come here several times now for lunches and it’s always delicious food and lovely service! The staff are polite and kind. The food is amazing and very good portion sizes! I thoroughly recommend coming here! It’s lovely in the summer outside too.

We went for the quiz, as we had heard it’s brilliant, and it did not disappoint! We have done quite a few pub quizzes around Hitchin and this was the best by far. The Quizmaster is funny and imaginative with the rounds, and we had so much fun. Our group had a selection of small plates from the bar menu and it was all delicious - especially the treacle and ale soda bread! Booking for the foreseeable - only downside is it’s only once a month!

Liv was excellent, attentive, welcoming and professional. Food (fish and chips / venison & juniper pie) was awesome. Venue great but a little too dark. Overall a very enjoyable evening, we will be back!

What a gorgeous place - really good menu, and delicious food, well priced and great service - the girl on reception was lovely (can’t remember her name - she was good fun) and she looked after us so well. Beautiful decor too!

Lovely place for lunch. The staff were so friendly and nice. I was there with my friend’s kids who the staff were really great with. The food was nice, I went for the chicken Sunday roast, it was tasty and nice that the gravy was refillable. I just thought it was a bit overpriced for what it was.

Back in the day my friend and I used to go to the Red Hart for drinks with the cool people of Hitchin. We always used to like it as the pub had an indie vibe and there was great music being played. Time passes and we were in the area so decided to pay it a visit. The pub is very different from how we remembered it. Nowadays is more of a bar and place to get something to eat. The decor is really nice and relaxing and we enjoyed having a drink there and reminiscing. Very pleasant indeed.

Superb! We stopped in here on spec for Sunday lunch. From the outset the staff were all friendly, charming and professional. It was a sunny day so we sat outside in the beautiful, quaint, old courtyard, which was transporting. We had the glazed pork collar and black pudding Scotch egg to start, then the roast beef dinner. One of the best roasts we’ve had out in a long time! It was beautifully cooked, well composed, the Yorkshire home-made, the beef sirloin cooked medium-rare, the roasties to die for, sumptuous cauliflower cheese. And they were considerate enough to leave a little jug with extra gravy in on the table which I think is a very nice touch indeed as we all like different quantities on our Sunday roasts, don’t we. The whole meal was delicious. The portions were definitely not stingy and we left feeling very satisfied and that we’d a had a very good experience. I hope we’re in Hitchin again some time soon so we can go to the Kite again!

Jess was brilliant with communication over email and on the evening of the event! Alfie did an amazing job of helping us set up the evening before and provided a fantastic service (always with a smile)! The presentation and the taste of the food was 10/10 and chefs were very accommodating. I highly recommend The Kite for any event, dining or just for a drink. I cannot recommend the staff at The Kite any higher! Whether it has been responding on email correspondence to making sure everything was ready on the night. We hired The Marshall Room upstairs for a 40th Birthday and it was perfect. Special thanks to Jess & Freya and barman Jamie on the night. Thanks for providing such an excellent venue & service.

As always people consider food utmost in teviews, but for us good food with poor service doesn't work. This restaurant had the utmost polite and well established service. Hence our many return. On this occasion it was an anniversary celebration and the courtesy edtended to us in celebrating was outstanding. This is why this restaurant is our go to place for a Sunday meal . As always the food is brilliant and the prices are not excessive. I cannot recommend any other place for a Sunday meal regardless of celebration than this place ... well done and thank you :)

Came for the first time for lunch today. Service was great but felt sorry for the lady on duty as she was alone with the place filling up quickly. We shared the two for £15 starters having the cheese croquettes and duck liver parfait. The cheese croquettes were good, the garlic mayo was a great accompaniment. the duck liver was accompanied by cherry jam which was excellent, unfortunate that we couldn’t finish it because we were only given a single small slice of toast. For mains we had the fish and chips and burger. The fish was good but rather oily, the burger was bad, over cooked, with under cooked raw fat streaky bacon without the promised treacle taste. We left 3/4 of the burger untouched but wasn’t asked why or what was wrong. No salt or pepper on the table and all the food needed seasoning.

Love this place! Amazing food with a great atmosphere and fantastic service. Great for those who have children as well. They host monthly grapes and babes events which are fantastic!

I've been going to Kite at The Red Hart for about five years, and it seems to somehow get better each time. The food is fantastic, and they have excellent holiday/seasonal menus. They also serve some of the best sticky toffee pudding I've ever had.

Quiz night! Great quiz and great food.The Chicken leg & smoked bacon pasty on the side of the cornfed chicken breast was the star of the evening, the gnocci was great too! The quiz was inventive and hilarious, and service was fantastic - a fab night out in Hitchin!

We had lovely meals here to celebrate a birthday. The food was delicious and they were terrific catering for someone with celiac in our party. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer nor more professional and she and the kitchen staff surprised us all with a little post dessert treat! Not our first time and once again it was absolutely brilliant. We were served by Liv who was so attentive throughout our meal, and enthusiastic about the menu with her great recommendations. Delicious food, great cocktails, buzzing but not overly noisy atmosphere, and a couple of complimentary additions that made our celebration special. Thanks and we will definitely be back again.

The Team here at Kite, at The Red Hart provided the catering for my 60th birthday for 120 people in my garden a couple of weeks ago. The food, service , and the overall experience were all outstanding. Everyone raved about the selection of food available and the quality of every item. The Team also provided an extensive bar service, which was equally amazing. They exceeded my expectations and that of my guests and helped make my birthday party an event to remember. Tell all your friends how wonderful this team is, I certainly will be.

We attended the first Grapes and Babes (bring your baby wine tasting) earlier this month and it was great! Brilliant nibbles and expertly run. We’ll be back!

Celebrated our anniversary here and it was a wonderful experience! The service was outstanding and made the evening feel special. My coeliac partner had plenty of gluten free options - including the complimentary dessert! The rump steak was a solid choice and the peppercorn sauce / triple cooked chips were delicious. Highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding.

I had the pleasure of photographing my lovely florist friend from Rose & Carter's magnificent table scapes. This was a Thai themed wedding and Kerrie didn't disappoint. The venue is a wonderful place perfect for small gatherings and intimate weddings.

We hired the private room upstairs after my babies baptism and it was absolutely perfect. The space is lovely and modern, there were beautiful dried flowers on the tables and a lovely long table for all the food. The kite were so accommodating and allowed us to come the night before to drop off decorations and food. (This was due to no event the day before so this may not always be the case but do allow you in an hour before the even too). The staff on the day were really lovely and all the guests said how much they enjoyed the afternoon. Would absolutely recommend the kite for any private functions and will be booking again myself! We took our own food for this occasion but I have eaten at the kite in the past and the food is 10/10 too

I had my baby shower here on the 4th February 2024 in the Marshall room. I wanted a low key baby shower where I could meet up with several friends, have a lovely roast and a catch up but also want it to feel special - having it at the Kite made this possible. There was 25 of us there, all our food come out piping hot and together, it was delicious, the menu was varied so met all dietary and taste requirements. We had a waitress assigned to us upstairs and served from the bar upstairs so it meant family and friends could have a good drink which is what I wanted. The team leading up to event were great and nothing was too much to ask for, my friends and sisters took over the organising after my initial booking and they said the plans and order sheets provided by the kite made organising very easy. The team let my sisters and friends in early to decorate, the Kite team also had the tables decorated lovely and in theme with tall candles and everyone had their own individual name place mat. I had the most amazing afternoon and it was exactly what I wanted I cannot thank the team enough especially Jess and Freya who were great with the organising. We will defiently be looking to host another event here again.

Very nice pub with excellent food. Everything a bit on the steep side, especially things like bread and butter which, whilst very nice, are priced outrageously. We had a lovely meal though and would go back happily.

Absolutely amazing! Had a spontaneous decision to give this place a go for the first time and so glad we did! The staff were amazing and welcoming, food was some of the best we've had in this town and reasonably priced! Personally, I want the recipe for their cider bread! Never had anything like it! This place is fantastic! The food was absolutely delicious. I went for a beef roast which was delicious and hit the spot! At our table a couple of people got the burger, which they raved about, and one person got the pie, he also had good things to say. The beef was sliced finely and cooked exactly how I'd expect, medium-rare. The roast was served with roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, cabbage, a lovely crisp Yorkshire pudding, and delicious honey carrots. The potatoes weren't quite as fluffy as I'd like then, but they were very good. The beef was tender and juicy, and for me the star of the dish! My mouth melted whilst eating the cauliflower cheese, which is exactly what you want from a dish covered in creamy cheese. Overall the meal was brilliant, and I highly recommend the Kite for their roast! For dessert, (and yes I know getting this after a roast was very ambitious!) I got their apple crumble and custard. The crumble was crunchy, just as I like it, and the apple filling flavours were devine. Unfortunately, the custard was not quite right, (a bit curd) and so I only had a little. But with the sweet taste and textures of the crumble I was very satisfied. The venue has a welcoming and cosy atmosphere, and the staff are friendly and very welcoming. This venue is a dog friendly pub, which I love! They have a no dog dining area, as well as a dog friendly dining area. Usually, pubs don't invest in a nice dog friendly dining area and you're placed in front of the bar on a small table. However, at the Kite you can experience their delicious food with your fur friends and sit in an area that's just as lovely as the no dog zone. If you're looking for a pub to visit for food or just drinks in Hitchin, I highly recommend coming here.

Was looking for somewhere to have Sunday roast for some time now. This place was listed as one of the top places in Hertfordshire serving Sunday roast so I thought I would give it a try! I was not disappointed, I was actually positively surprised! Food was delicious and presentation was excellent. Service was truly incredible- a lot of young professionals hired at this restaurant/bar. Staff were helpful, polite and service was smooth. It’s good to see young people taking their job seriously and providing top customer service. Thank you for having us and I will be returning!

I have to compliment FOH team, everyone was friendly, found us a table although it was a very last minute booking, service was attentive. However food was disappointing. Seeing only 4 mains on the menu, one would expect them being fabulous. Both our burger and pie were okay but nothing more than in an average pub, except the price. We were expecting a really nice meal but what we got I could compare to M&S food, nice but not wow. I won’t return and won’t recommend.

We went to the hart today for lunch with some friends with (between us) two babies a toddler and a dog - and made a mess with drinks being poured everywhere by the babies - me and my husband have done a fair bit of eating out as a family of 4 but have never been made to feel so welcome and accepted despite the chaos we bring - your staff did such a fab job. Thanks so much!!

We held our wedding reception in the stretch tent and Marshall Room in Sept 2023 and from initial contact with Ben and Jess the service was excellent. We had lots of email communication as well as in person meetings to discuss all the details, were given plenty of recommendations and the day was everything we could have wanted. We had a drinks reception and canapes in the stretch tent followed by their signature grazing table and late night hot food in The Marshall Room and it was all incredible. Jess and the team helped ensure the day ran smoothly, helped put up decorations and did everything to make sure we were happy. The service and food was amazing - guests are still commenting on how delicious the food was! We want to thank Jess, Ben and the team for everything they did to help and make our small, informal wedding reception the best day!

One of my favourite pubs in Hertfordshire. Really great atmosphere. Beautiful pub with great food and awesome staff. Highly recommended.

We had a fabulous Jones Hunt Keelings Christmas Party hosted in the private room. Staff were very attentive and efficient. Dinner was good and generous portions. You looked after us so well, nothing was too much trouble, thanks to Ben, Jess and the team

Food was good though not outstanding, but the service and atmosphere was very nice. Waiter was very attentive.

One of the best pubs in Hitchin! I've only been for drinks there but heard the food is also excellent. Very good selection of beers including a few craft beer options.

Excellent food , marvellous service would highly recommend.
