I have been visiting The Kitchen now for many years and I can honestly say that it is the best place to eat in Somerset! I travel 16 miles most weeks to eat here with my husband and friends the food is always absolutely delicious the manager and staff are welcoming, helpful and go above and beyond to ensure everything is done to an exceptionally high standard. The decor and atmosphere is exquisite. Thank you so much for always making our visits so enjoyable guys it is much appreciated.

Couple of 50 year olds feeling late to the party finding this gem. We all have our favourites for a Sunday carvery, of which we have visited ours time and again amongst others for years. We’d heard of ‘The kitchen’ at quantock lakes for some time and managed to get round to booking a table this week. How pleased we are with our new Favourite. After easily parking in the well maintained grounds and car park we made our way across to the reception where after the shortest wait we were greeted enthusiastically by a member of the team and shown to our lovely table. Being our first visit the process of service was clearly explained and our drinks order was taken almost immediately and drinks served promptly. We waited a short time to be invited up to the carvery station. Wow just wow, a homely atmosphere was felt as we waited in the very short queue, our eyes focusing on the three succulent meat choices being generously carved for the diners in front of us. We had at this point decided between the pair of us that neither of us could manage the huge offering of all three meats of the large plate we had just seen handed out and decided that the standard dish was on its own going to be a challenge and opted for this. We each asked for two meats ‘pork and turkey’ both feeling guilty neglecting what could only be described as ‘the best looking cooked to perfection sirloin of beef’ we had ever seen. Moving on to veg on offer the choice excelled our expectations. I firstly wasn’t expecting to be presented with a choice of help yourself deconstructed pigs in blankets which I eagerly added to my already generous helping of meat offerings. Next I moved onto a creamy and piping hot cauliflower cheese. Taking a small amount as I’m already considering how I am going to not only fit on my plate but also manage to eat my way through the tasty looking red cabbage, broccoli, peas, beans, chunky carrots, beautiful roasted potatoes, stuffing, and golden brown crispy looking Yorkshire pudding. We added lashings of just the right consistency dark and warm gravy and made our way back to our seats. We had already taken note of the cute and personal condiment pots on our table consisting within the trio of apple sauce, horseradish sauce and cranberry sauce and thought the way this was presented was a lovely personal touch. Condiments served we were both very quiet tucking into our generous amazingly tasty carvery. After a few minutes of processing the fact that everything I was eating was so tasty and moist and cooked to my exact liking I stopped just long enough to ask my wife if this was just me who was experiencing the very best carvery meal I had ever had or (as I was hoping) would she agree? My wife instantly agreed that this was the best we have ever had and also agreed that the service and attention to detail was second to none that we have experienced before. Worth a mention that they were full the whole time we were there and have things organised extremely well to accommodate this. We did notice a sign outside to inform customers that they were fully booked so couldn’t accept walk-ins today which we agree is fair enough when you are this busy.

One of the best breakfasts 🍳 we’ve ever had. The breakfast hash is fantastic said my wife, delicious flavours and a great mix of food. The traditional English breakfast is made with the highest quality ingredients. Proper sausage, high class tasty bacon, lovely mushrooms and tomatoes, perfect crispy hash browns, absolutely awesome. Just had Sunday lunch, what a big disappointment . Beef was tough and very fatty, Pork was nice but again more fat than meat Cauliflower very hard beans tough and potatoes hard . Yorkshire pudding was best part of the meal . Overall the meal was tasteless , needed plenty of salt. I cannot recommend this for Sunday lunch.

Staff were really rude and made my partner and I really uncomfortable after we asked for a window seat and got decline because there was only two of us and the window seats were available for parties bigger and I except that. However they remained vacant the whole time that we were there. One particular member of staff was extremely confrontational and kept staring at us, although all we did was asked to sit in the window. I was really disappointed as it looked like a nice place to go however the staff that day let the place down completely.

The Kitchen at Quantock Lakes has a lovely balcony overlooking Deere tractors and countryside. We didn't eat a meal just a pot of tea and a cake which was nice. However the tables that had been previously used had not been cleared due I think to the lack of staff rather than the serving member of staff who served us.

Just passing by and have been here before as we live locally. Today however we arrived in the morning (Saturday) and we're told they were closed for a private event. No signs saying that and no apology. Just told to remember to reserve next time (for a coffee!!?). Oh, and we were told there are no bins, so nowhere to put our dog poo bags. Others had the same experience that morning. Judging by the cars arriving and leaving at the same time as us, they don't seem very keen for business (unless a large private group booking). No problem though as there are plenty of better options nearby. In reply to the owners response (19th April). Thanks for your reply. Do you think then that, if people need to book for a coffee, then you should remove the road signs that suggest people drop in? That is misleading. Also, if you are as you suggest, a dog friendly establishment, you should at least have a bin in somewhere for us to drop poo bags? Or is that completely unreasonable? As I said, there are plenty of dog friendly and people friendly places to go to. Just acknowledge that you have it wrong and sort it out. Additionally the only member of staff we spoke to that day was abrupt and that alone was enough to put us off, much like your response.

I drive past the Kitchen at Quantock Lakes several times a year, and have always wanted to pop in to see what it's like. My baby was in need of a stop for some milk so we decided to pop in and feed her there (when I say we, I mean me, my 12yo son and the baby). We arrived in the building and having the pushchair, we needed to use the lift. There was a note on it to ask staff for assistance. There were no staff downstairs so I went upstairs to ask at the bar. I asked the lady if I could have some assistance with the lift please, and she said yeah. She left the bar so I went downstairs thinking she would be down in a moment. I was mistaken. Baby was so miserable without her milk, so I just sat on a chair next to the toilets and fed the baby. The woman I asked for help with the lift even came down the stairs, looked at us and then proceeded to walk into the cordoned off room downstairs. She didn't come back to offer any assistance, so after the baby had had her fill, we left, and we will never be returning. Appalling service. What if someone disabled needed to use the lift? The fact you have to go upstairs to get someone's attention in the first place is far from ideal, and would be impractical for some people.

Lovely cafe to stop for coffee / lunch. Food was very good quality and good value for big portions. Only reason not a 5* is that we had our little dog with us (after confirming they were dog friendly) and were immediately given a “dog policy” sheet on arrival. Completely appreciate the need to have a policy, however, it was quite a rude, abruptly written policy which made us feel quite uncomfortable being there. To add, she is perfectly behaved and you wouldn’t have known she was there. Appreciate the policy and that it has been based on previous experiences but not necessary to be written in such a negative way towards all owners.

We have been before upstairs and had a loverly lunch and great service from start to finish which is why we decided to book sunday lunch downstairs as a treat for another day ..would say roast was loverly maybe a little bland but nevertheless good 👍little pricey but if its worth it your pay whatever for food and service can't say any comment about sweet as never got any .we arrived with no queue in front and waited at the door and waited till a young lad came over who asked if we booked ..which we had, he showed us to our table ..older gent came over which we now know is Keith ( name on bill ) he asked about drinks and once ordered said to go up when ready ..when we got up by food he was being a joker as lady had gone off to get other food for filling ..we got our food from the grumpy lady who my daughter said made a joke about something about me as my daughters were having banter with me while waiting..we sat down and finished our roast ..then it went down hill we have never ever felt so uncomfortable and ignored that we felt we had to leave within a hr of arriving !!! left without being asked if we wanted a sweet or another drink .. he clearly only wanted to serve his regular customers and avoided us as if we where a embarrassment and wanted us out 😳 definitely felt like it he knew we were there waiting all the time as our table was right in front of his exit. He also made a comment to me about why do i always get the feisty ones who give grief..i never once gave him anything to make him say that . Even when we asked to split the bill he was rude about that ..sorry but we would not recommend eating downstairs unless your a regular or you want karen treatment 🤔 will say he knew we were not happy and felt uncomfortable the whole time !!

Came in today to enjoy a lunch with sister and sadly very disappointed in the food. Both hers and mine were well below standard. Her fillets of fish mostly consisted of batter and definitely not worthy of the £13.50, which was not charged for. My curry was also very poor, and I should really have complained more about that. Presentation and flavour was seriously lacking. I can say though that the staff were mostly attentive helpful and apologetic. Wines were lovely and surroundings lovely. We were on the way to Exeter and very happy to find this place for a quick lunch. I had chicken katsu curry, which was nice. It was served with rice and salad on the side. Chicken was tender and crispy as it should be, and the curry sauce was delicious. I like salads, but in this case, it was a bit too much for me. Some were already on the plate, but there was more on the side bowl as well, and tbh they didn't really go together. However, it was good overall.

My partner and I have been here twice: Once for lunch - brilliant portion size, reasonably priced, great food (ploughman's x2), good service, clean tables etc, easily a 5/5 clean sweep, couldn't have been happier. Once for breakfast - good portion size, felt overpriced for what it was, the food was mixed... I had veggie sausages which were awful, tasted like some frozen rubbish that had been overcooked, my fried eggs were perfect, buttered spinach was very nicely done, mushrooms tasted slightly off (maybe old stock?). My partner had veggie hash which (as pictured) was lovely and she was very pleased with, however she had a hot chocolate and the marshmallows were stale. The table was sticky, even though we arrived 15-20mins after they opened. Service was relatively good. Parking is reasonable, unless you're on a motorbike (beware of gravel on the road, which is from the parking section). All in all we'll potentially go back for a third attempt, but £28 on a disappointing breakfast (for me) and a disappointing drink (for my partner) means we both left feeling like we wasted our money on our last visit and are more likely to go somewhere new instead.

My friend booked in for my baby shower on Sunday, we arrived to a very busy place with another big baby shower us, another just arriving & got knows how many inside. There was some sort of issue with the booking ‘apparently emails were sent that were not received, I totally appreciate mistakes happen but the way we was spoken to from start to finish was appalling…the lady that originally spoke to us when booking said children can share high tea with an adult…we wasn’t going to pay £15 for our children that would not eat it! A waste of food & money! To then arrive and that not be correct l-in the managers words ‘why would you think you could bring kids and not pay’ umm because you said! I have been to many other high teas locally and my daughter has shared with me! We then spoke to a friend attending another baby shower party that same day who also had children but they didn’t have to pay. I think things could have been dealt with a hell of a lot better mainly just by the staffs attitude- we were very calm considering. I’m deeply disappointed but would like you to know you didn’t ruin my day thankfully!!

Came for Mother’s Day (our first visit/upstairs) after hearing first class reviews from people we knew that had attended the valentines event and lunches in general. The food was lovely, the place beautiful but it all felt very rushed and I didn’t feel special. My pudding (the mum) didn’t arrive and had to be chased. There was no time between clearing the plates and puddings being delivered to sit back and relax. We were unfortunately one family member down on the booking so asked for perhaps extra meat as the meal was prepaid, we got extra Yorkshire puddings only. I ended up giving some of my meat to my husband as he didn’t have very much at all, however we could take away the extra dessert in boxes. We were there for an hour. (£120 for an hour). Other friends who sat downstairs had a completely different experience, they even came away with a box of “for mum” chocolate truffles. They didn’t feel rushed in any way. We got no chocolates. I even commented at the table how odd I thought it was that the mums didn’t get a little something extra? I came away feeling really sad that my children (who attended the valentines event and raved about it so much) had spent so much money for an event that was super quick and not special. Please note the food in itself and the place is lovely. It just wasn’t our day!

Food was very nice and everything tasted delicious. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. My favourite breakfast spot from now on, would give 10 stars.

Wow, just wow. My good lady and I just popped in for a coffee. we ended up with an incredibly tasty carvery. I have to say, the 1st thing that hits you when you walk in, is the amazingly warm and genuine welcome. We opted for a carvery. My wife went for the beef, and I had the turkey. The presentation was superb, but the food was incredible. I have had many a carvery in my days, but to date, NONE came close to this. Truly fantastic all round. Well done to you all.

Disgusted! I was looking forward to my pre-booked Sunday Lunch at the Kitchen, but unfortunately caught covid 3 days before the date so tried to cancel or get a voucher for another date, giving 48 hours notice. The kitchen were not helpful, and l lost my deposit...This has left a Bad taste.. surely they don't want Covid positive diners at their restaurant? Diners beware!!

My wife and I enjoyed a very nice carnival day lunch at the Tudor. Bridgwater, on carnival day, was heaving, but here we found a comfortable, peaceful retreat from the bustle outside. It being a very busy day, we ate from a restricted menu. There was plenty to choose from for a meat eater, but my wife, who suffers from that terrible affliction, vegetarianism. had, as usual, a more limited choise. Fortunately, a very nice fish & chips came to the rescue. (I am not sure what she has got against fish). The staff, from the senior hands to the junior trainees, were a joy - as good as it gets. All were very friendly, happy and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. A former native of Bridgwater, I have visited the Tudor many times. It has it all. Premises steeped in history, lovely food, resonable prices and, above all, superb staff. I really cannot reccomend a visir to the Tudor highly enougth.

I am reviewing 2 visits. Our first visit was for a lunchtime sandwich. Our second was for a Sunday lunch. Our lunchtime sandwich was a lovely experience. We sat in the main area of the cafe which was calm, light and airy, nice atmosphere and service. The sandwich was very good, fresh and plentiful. The Sunday lunch was served in what I would call the conservatory. It was very cramped and busy. The air conditioning was turned up way too high, but was turned off on request. The Pynes roast beef was very nicely presented but ruined by over use of garlic. The cutlery wasn't suitable as the knife didn't really cope with the beef, even though it was perfectly cooked. The dessert was delicious, I had blackberry and apple pie. On payment, we tried to use a voucher which had been given as a present. There had been a problem with the system back in June, which had cost The Levels a considerable amount of money. They said that they had sent emails to everyone explaining the problem. Our son checked, but found no trace of any email. He had however had the amount of the voucher refunded a few days after purchase. We paid for the meal, but felt a bit let down by the whole experience. Also one W.C. for male and female for a whole restaurant is not adequate.
