I had a really lovely experience here. It was my first time having Japanese bbq. The food was delicious and superb. I did not think i would ever enjoy barbecueing my own meal, but it was so fun. They did not scrimp on the portions neither. The drinks were good. The staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful. The atmosphere was great. I went on a Monday, which was happy hour. It was well worth it. I've told people about it and will defo be revisiting 😊.

This is our second Japanese “do it yourself” experience and really enjoyed it. The food and drinks came out very quickly and would definitely return.

Very cheap and delicious for Yakiniku eaten overseas! The taste of the beef tongue was the same as in Japan and it was very delicious🫶 I made a reservation for 12 o'clock on a Saturday and it was empty for a while, but after an hour it was very busy🍖 If I miss Japanese food, I'll go again~

The food was tasty! I had no idea you had to cook it yourself which is quite a different experience. Came here with my sister and it was so fun, and fairly cheap as we came during happy hour. It was £30 something pounds for us both and the photo attached it what we got.

Absolutely loved this place. The food was good, although it's a bit hard to judge how long to cook some items like fish. There were a few beef items that were amazing though. Staff were friendly and attentive.

OK ambiance and comfort. Nice service. Poor meat quality and fairly pricey. Odd fixed type menus. eg menu for 2 with one small bowl of miso soup?? There are better table BBQ experiences in London - with Korean and Japanese.

I always visit this restaurant when I'm in London. The staff are always friendly and the food is always great. I definitely recommend going drung happy hour as the prices are lower.

Lunch time is the best time to visit. 2 types of meat is more than enough if you're sharing with someone else 2 deals (so 2 each,4 in total). Food is tasty, meat is fresh and grilling experience is nice overall. Definitely would recommend this place.

Nice cocktails and decent prices on happy hour offer, nice atmosphere. But the fish was tasteless! We ordered scallops, prawns and squid. A waste of money!

Nice cozy restaurant, all dishes were delicious, service was friendly however we had to wait long time for drinks and keep reminding our waiter for them. Definitely recommend the place 👌

I have been coming to Kintan for 8 years. The food is excellent, the service is fine, but it is all an excellent experience. Highly recommend checking the website for the happy hour times which are currently - 11:30-6 Tuesday-Sunday and 2100-late and All day Mondays. Happy hour gives ~50% off drinks and ~1/3 off food which makes it an absolute bargain.

This place is lots of fun and has very generous set menus. Everything was delicious and the staff were great!

Highly recommend. Especially for families. My son really loves helping cook the food. I like the meal deals. It can get busy so book a table.

Menu was clear, plenty of choice and the food was delicious. Service was good and the food kept on coming. Reasonably priced - we had the set menu for 4 which was just over £40 per head but there was plenty of food. Service charge was extra!

It was New Year's Day, and nothing was open, so we settled at Kintan. We didn't opt for the BBQ; instead, we took it easy with the à la carte selections. The chicken karaage was delightful, and the fried noodles were exactly what we wanted. The service was welcoming and friendly. It was a nice way to start the year with our first lunch.

We tried Kintan for a Japanese BBQ experience and it definitely deserves its rating of over 4 stars. We opted for the Meat Lover’s Course but swapped out pork for teriyaki chicken as we don’t eat pork. We also sampled kimchi and edamame. The marinated red meats and teriyaki chicken were delicious. The kimchi was nicely spiced. The garlic rice included in the menu made a great combo with the meat. The only item that was underwhelming was the tofu, as it lacked flavor. Overall, I highly recommend this unique and tasty experience.

Somehow the service here is abysmal - when we ask if it’s possible for some accommodation for our food intolerance, our waitress just started to give us a hostile attitude, then said she would check n come back to us but never came back. Instead just started serving food for us without letting us know if accommodation can be made so we could dine here safely. - Our order was messed up. Many things was taken down wrong and the correct items were not served until we’ve asked again a long time later. - Also never informed us of anything on the table that potentially contains food intolerance trigger until we almost finished everything. It’s a very bad dining experience given we’ve ordered 150£ worth of food. Maybe won’t return to this brunch.

Receptionist was really rude and inflexible. We were 9 people and she wanted us to fit in one table. She even raised her voice at us when we said we couldn’t fit. Even before we finished eating they were rushing us out and she was already giving us the bill. We asked for still water in a bottle and they gave us tap water and charged us for it. The food is good but service is not worth it. We even heard the other table talking about how they ordered a different flavor of ice cream. They gave them a completely different flavor without asking if they were okay with it because they were out. Overall, very bad service.

I was served by Alex who was very good and prompt. The food was delicious, would definitely return.

Terrible service, place is dirty, table was sticky. - Asked staff to clean the table again cause the table was sticky. Got handed extra napkins to clean ourselves. - Ordered sauces to go with our BBQ. Had to remind the server 3 times. It wasn't even busy. - Ordered beef slices, got super fatty cuts to the point there was basically no meat. - Seats were all run down and covers were all falling apart. - Our grill was not changed once during the hour we were BBQing. - For a table of 2 we paid close to 100 pounds and for that money a better food and experience can easily be had elsewhere. For a Japanese restaurant the lack of attention to detail was simply shocking. Would not recommend.

Belle expérience chez Kintan. Malheureusement deux de nos viandes (1 « premium » et une classique étaient presque immangeables tellement caoutchouteuses. Le reste était délicieux, bibimbap, kimchi, saké,… dommage.

We ordered meat, and beer, and food was decent - I would not say it is Japanese, but at least it is grilled meat (bbq). However, after being moved to a tiny table with the 5 of us - the seating became very uncomfortable. To top that, we were then constantly harrassed by the waiters if we wanted to order more, then the final straw was when he took out a bill when we were still eating and drinking. Not sure if i would rush back or recommend to anyone else.

Not the kintan anymore. Miso soup came cold, meat is poorly sliced, super thick and hard. Poor service from the staff who only care about getting you what you ordered and the bill, nothing about the service in between. Started clearing the table when we were still eating. Got the bill in front of our faces without us asking. Poor experience all round.

I’ve been to Kintan at Oxford Circus before, but this is the first time I went to the branch. The food was really great as expected. But the service was a bit odd. The waiters kept on interrupting us asking whether they can bring the bill, almost as if they wanted to get rid of us. That was very annoying, because we a bunch of friends meeting after about a year, and we were trying have some quality conversations, and it’s not ideal when you keep getting disturbed every 3 minutes…. In the end we had to tell him to stop interrupting us and that we will call him when we are ready to pay. I have loved in Japan for 5 years, and this is definitely not the Japanese kind of service. In Japan almost all restaurants have a calling bell, and the waiters do not disturb or eavesdrop on their customers’ conversations , and come to the table only when they are needed. If Kintan wants to provide a truly Japanese yaki-niku experience, they should learn some this Japanese service standards as well.

Very good meal, usually, as I’m not eating fish Japanese restaurants aren’t my thing however I must say that the meal at Kintan exceeded my expectations, the thin slices of meat or a BBQ were just melting on the mouth - I will certainly go back to try other options on the menu

The food and restaurant is quite good. But the service here has really deteriorated. We were there as a group, our group size reduced because some people from the group couldn’t attend due to train issues on the day, the staff asked us to move mid meal as the food was cooking on the grill. When we moved, they kept rushing us with asking us to either order more food or drinks. And then when we were still eating/drinking the staff rushed us to pay the bill. If you feel like that customers are occupying tables while eating food you shouldn’t open a restaurant. Basic decency was just lacking. Literally had to tell the staff off.

This was a restaurant I stumbled upon and was so glad. They have happy hour even on a Sunday from 9pm until they close. You’re able to cook your own meat over a grill in the centre of the table that creates a wonderful fun atmosphere.

I celebrated my 28th birthday at Kintan Japanese BBQ yesterday, and the experience was a delightful mix of highs and some areas for improvement. A special appreciation to Yume, whose exceptional service stood out amidst the bustling atmosphere of the packed restaurant. Despite the crowd, Yume was incredibly attentive, ensuring my celebration felt like an authentic Japanese experience. Now, onto the star of the show—the food. The chicken garlic noodles were a revelation, and the spring rolls impeccable. The butter garlic tenderloin was a savoury delight I had to order around 4-5 times because I couldn't stop eating it. These dishes showcased the simplicity but also culinary excellence of Kintan. However, the addicting cabbage and cucumber, while pretty good, left me yearning for a touch more intensity. Nevertheless, they played a crucial role in cleansing the palate, especially when paired with the well-cooked rice. Turning to the service aspect, Yume's efforts shone brightly, mitigating the occasional delays in service from the non-English speaking staff. Despite everyone being friendly, simple orders sometimes took longer than expected. Yume's efficiency and understanding turned potential hiccups into a memorable birthday experience. On the ambiance front, my only gripe was the limited Japanese-speaking staff, which impacted the overall feel of the restaurant. While the non-Japanese staff were friendly and accommodating, there's a certain authenticity that comes with a predominantly Japanese-speaking team that was missing. This, coupled with the limited restroom facilities for a place of this size, resulted in a slight deduction in the overall ambiance rating. In terms of price, the quality of the food justified the cost. I look forward to revisiting Kintan in Holborn, hoping that with time, the areas for improvement will be addressed, making it an even more authentic and enjoyable Japanese dining experience. Visited London for 3 days and this was by far my favourite thing to do. If there's a small group of you you can benefit from ordering loads of different items and sharing which allows you to try more things. Great for socialising whiles enjoying dinner. I would also recommend the plum wine it's delicious.

Lovely place, really enjoy this place and have been many times. Really good tk get stuck in and bbq your own meat / Veg. Can't think of many other places which offer BBQ Japanese style meat. Good for small groups

Very dissapointed with the food quality. The Beef is as Tough as Nylons. Have been in this restaurant since day one. Not worth the money and time. Beef is so chewy and tough. Staff need to be trained how to handle food.

Last April me and my family had a great time at Kintan. The food was delicious and the next time I am in London i‘ll visit again.

Superb Bbq.. Thinly sliced meats and veggies slowly cooked over a heated grill whole you take in the ambience, drink and converse. A wholly civilised delicious dining experience. Can't wait to go back.

Lovely place for lunch friendly staff good food

I love this Japanese grilled restaurant. The food is very nice with decent price. We ordered a set for 5 (actually got 6 of us) and it feeds everyone of us nice and full. I also love how it designed the set menus where everything is included, for snacks, sides, mains included. The price is very decent and like everything. It is usually full especially during weekends, so make sure you book yourself a table a week before you visit there. I highly recommended this restaurant!

The price in the store is affordable, and the set menu allows me to eat different dishes, which is very cost-effective. The only drawback is that there are a few choices for the staple rice, and even though the seats in the restaurant are empty when you come, you still need to wait for a while, I don't know why. Hope for improvement.

The food here is incredible and I would highly recommend getting one of the set menus if you are not familiar with the Japanese bbq style as they give a good basis for portion size and a variety of food to try. I visited during happy hour which meant that everything was 10-20% cheaper making it decent value for money, without the happy hour discount it is still a place worth visiting though it is not the best value. The staff were very friendly and happy to help, give recommendations and swap some items for others. However, perhaps because it was near closing time, a lot of the things we ordered took a long time to arrive or even were at times, possibly forgotten. The atmosphere was very nice with the lighting, interior design and staff friendliness making this a very enjoyable experience despite some pitfalls which I am sure are not a regular occurrence.

Simply fabulous food. We also had amazing wine. The happy hour prices were also a bonus! The only thing we didn't like was that we got the food before the drinks and had to ask where the drinks were. They turn the tables around quickly as they are very busy. But it was worth it. I recommend booking and ordering one of the menus. We loved our menu for two and were really full after! The quality was great. The ladies at the entrance are very nice. They took a 12% service charge automatically, which was fine.

Fantastic restaurant, we were a party of 10 celebrating a birthday, had a full mix of perfectly seasonal prime cuts of meat and seafood. Recommended to anyone who enjoys a variety of flavours.

I dined at your restaurant last Sunday. I must admit the Egyptian guy Osama. Give that guy a raise he Gave great service and recommendations were on-point as it was my first visit. I visit a lot of restaurants as I travel a lot. I liked the food and concept and of course the server himself

Kintan offers an incredible experience. Barbecuing there is an absolute blast, with an enjoyable combination of cooking and conversation. Time seems to fly by, making it a highly recommended choice.

Absolutely loved it. My good friend introduced me to this place for our quarterly eat up. Its fantastic. Cool novelty BBQ'ing your own food. I can imagine a group of three or more might be frustrating as the BBQ is quite small and you can't cook too much at once. Highly recommend to anyone interested in good quality cuts of meat in delicious sauces and marinades.

Good BBQ grill restaurant in London - you really can't go wrong with any of the menu choices.

Overall a great experience, the staff in particular is attentive. The only negative is the meat has too much marination, the meat itself seems high quality enough that it can stand on its own with some sauce on the side.

Lunch hour is definitely the best time to come here for their lunch sets! We chose 2 different kinds of meat for each person which is part of a set, which includes miso soup, salad and rice and we shared the meat between all of us so we had more of a variety to eat. This definitely filled us up!! Service was a bit slow but the waitress that greeted us at the door was really welcoming and friendly and explained their different menus for us!

A different dining experience, good food, if a little expensive... We had dinner here in early August. Very busy with a good atmosphere, we had a short wait to get a table. This is a Yakiniku restaurant where you barbecue the food (usually meat) on a small grill set into your table. You can choose the various cuts and quality according to your budget. Service was quick and friendly and we really enjoyed our food. I would highly recommend the garlic rice as an accompaniment. I would certainly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for something a little different in this area.

One of my favourite restaurant in London. They are always very busy, and even with the best work from the waiter team it can be a little slow to add items. (I do wish they were more.) But the atmosphere is always great, good service and the food is perfect! You will love to cook the meat to your liking, and have a different restaurant experience than what we are used to. I highly recommend the takoyaki.

We have been at Kintan a few times but sadly the experience has varied from one time to another and this time I believe will be our last mainly due to the service. The service was average but not warm/welcoming and after dinner we ordered dessert and waited a veeeery long time. Then we were suddenly handed the bill without having been served our dessert. The waiter then went to put the order again and brought our dessert when ready but not even finishing the dessert handed again the bill in came in to get the payment in a very rushed way. The overall feeling at the end is that is expensive for what you get in terms of service so sadly won't be back.

Excellent spot for a chilled business meal. Good space to chat and can be very casual. Food ordering was easy too as we picked from a helpful selection of set menus with really good amount of food - everyone left feeling full and satisfied. We definitely enjoyed their drinks selections too - beer and tasty cocktails.

Food is amazing but slightly expensive for dinner. They have lunch menu set which serve the same items and cost about 50-60% of the dinner menu prices so I highly recommend the lunch menu. Service is a little bit slow and they can forget your order items sometimes but it’s okay. The rice here is really delicious and the kitchen staff seems very nice as we greeted each other as I entered and left. Give it a try!

The food here is really good, full of flavour and variety. I like that the staff are very friendly and always ready for you. I got the kimchi tofu soup as I was feeling sickly and it was so filling as I had some rice with it too. I would recommend trying their sides and sushi menu as it was all good. I would come back and try their bbq menu. I came around 5pm ish and it wasn’t as busy on a weekday.

Their Bbq is always tasty good variety of beef and a nice experience for occasions. They had an offer on and happy hour which was great.

The salmon volcano and takoyaki were amazing. We had the spicy chicken and thinly sliced beef as well as the duck breast - all were so tasty. Even the garlic rice was delicious! I’d recommend the green tea tiramisu for dessert. Only downside is that the portions are not suitable to share with more than 2 people. FYI - there aren’t a lot of veggie options and the meat is not halal!

One of my favourite places in the area for a quick, reasonably priced lunch. The chicken teriyaki set is great value & can’t get enough of the addicting cabbage! Will have to be back to try the bbq out!

Happy Hour set of meat for bbq was a bargain and it came with a lot of food such as beef bibimbap. We paired with some sake with a decent price and we paid around £48pp

Had to go down and ask somebody to tend us to a table, to which we were told to go upstairs and wait some more, by a rude Asian man with a bowl cut (front of house seemingly), literally to wait one minute and bring us down again??? Brought to our table, which was not even ready as there were no plates or cutlery there. We proceeded to order one of the sets for 2 people, to which we had asked if we could switch out the chicken for something that was the same price to which my partner had done previously. The same guy who brought us down stared blankly at us and just said no we can’t do that with a very demeaning tone. Moments later, he started to shout and swear at one of his female colleagues and stormed off and all staff started to collect in a circle to have a gossip session. Starters were served, kimchi cabbage, miso soup and prawn tempura. Still no plates or cutlery to eat this at this point and had to wait for about 5 minutes for someone to actually attend to us and get them. Nobody had switched the stove on for us at this point either. Meat platter served, had to ask for water twice before actually getting served. The meat was good, bibimpap was served but had a small portion of rice. Waited ages for someone to clear our plates, we had stacked everything and wiped down the tables to prompt them to clear it. Had to ask for the dessert to be served as well as this was forgotten. As we were eating dessert, we were handed the bill at the same time. Mid way through our dessert, one of the waiters came with a card reader which was very rude as we were not done eating. The food itself was not bad, a little overpriced for what it was, but the main let down was the customer service. It was a special night for us, heard good things about this place but was a complete let down. Safe to say we will not be returning again.

Both my partner and I suffered from bad food poisoning - we suspect that raw food have been left out as our mains took forever to come.

Food tasted good and staff were nice. But I have a very upset stomach which began about 2 hours after visiting, worsened overnight and has continued into today.

I used to like this place but this time I was disappointed with the meat quality and the service is lacking .
