It’s been great to return to the Kings Treasure after so many years … and to see Elizabeth again, who has returned from her globetrotting and is now running the restaurant, following her parents’ retirement. The decor is tidy and smart, and the food, as ever, is excellent. We’ve been twice in the past few weeks. If you haven’t eaten here for a while, give it a try. We need a good local Chinese restaurant. As a bonus, if you’re lucky, Elizabeth’s husband Iain may arrive with two-month-old Haimish for you to say hello to!

The old Kings Treasure restaurant (eat in), before Covid, was good food, questionable hygiene and dodgy service. Then it became takeaway only. The new owners have reopened the restaurant and we went at the end of September for one of the best Chinese meals, food and service and price, we've ever enjoyed. I've been to China and Hong Kong on business so many times and I love authentic food and Anglicised food and this was a joy. Please don't go there because we're local and we don't want to have to book.

We live locally but used to go to a takeaway in Woodhall Spa. However, that was closed for quite a long time, and we decided to try King's Treasure. We haven't been back to Woodhall since! The chow mein is lovely, so is the sweet and sour king prawn balls dish, and beef curry (although quite a thick sauce, very tasty). Quantities are good, and prices are reasonable. We have tried others in Horncastle, and can honestly say that for us, this is the best.

I’ve lived here for 12 years and been going to this Chinese. In all these years I have NEVER had a bad meal. The food is excellent. Had family round tonight and ordered to collect it. Ready in 15-20 minutes. We had curry, aromatic lamb, Cantonese style chicken, salt and pepper chicken, chips snd rice and it was all fantastic. You can ask for no veg, or not as spicy.. They never let you down. The food is wonderful. Highly recommended.

I’ve been eating here for the past 14 years! The food is always hot and fresh. In all this time I have never had a bad one. The salt and pepper chicken is to die for as is the Aromatic Lamb. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. My personal favourite is Chicken Curry and Chicken Chow Mein. I usually have takeaway and if I ring and place an order, I can usually pick it up within 10-40 minutes. It’s well worth waiting for.

I fancied Chinese food so we drove the 11 miles to the Kings Treasure for our favourite meals, Grilled Prawn Cantonese style for me and Prawn Chop Suey for my husband, it was delicious as usual. Prawns were big and juicy cooked just right, the sauce was just the right consistency and tangy, rice was perfectly cooked and hot. The Chop Suey was perfectly cooked with tasty sauce and rice followed by Banana Split. I finished off with ice Cream Fritter which I always think is fun, frozen ice cream inside with hot crispy batter on the outside. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals which were served very quickly, never had a bad meal here in all the years we have been going.

First time I've ever been to the King's treasure Chinese and it'll definitely be the last! Very very small portions. Chow mein tasted burnt! Salt and pepper chicken tasted nothing like it! This chips.. Not sure what's going on with the chips but the man behind the counter worned me that the chips come out dark brown, the truth is he's frying raw potato quickly and it's burning on the outside and is barely cooked on the inside! The crispy won tons we're just deep fried filo pastry, ZERO FILLING!! WE SPENT £30 ON THIS CHINESE AND IT WAS BARE ENOUGH FOR 2 PEOPLE! So after coming for a meal from over 20 mins away wanting a decent chinese I was hopeful, we ordered waited and upon getting our food in the car thought it didn’t smell great. But we bit the bullet and took it home. Well I wish I’d chucked it out the window on the way home because I have never seen or tasted something so foul. Everything had a burnt charcoal taste, you couldn’t actually bite through the chicken ball it was that burnt so if you like your teeth or have dentures avoid these. It was so foul I’ve actually put it straight in the bin without dishing it up and gone back to another chinese one that I know to be decent. If the food wasn’t offputting the place it’s self was more than off putting with golf balls on the floor looked like I’d gone to a bloody chinese driving range. I wouldn’t feed it to my dog. Let alone my family.

Outstanding food, not cheap but great value. The set menus are even better value. The man who served us (the only person we ever saw, and he may be the owner) was so surly and rude that, strangely, it added to the meal and we had a fit of the giggles. Basil Fawlty clearly taught him all he knows but DON'T let that stop you going.

We normally get our Chinese takeaway from Golden Boy but as they are shut for three weeks we thought we would try here. I wish we hadn't. They are significantly more expensive but the portions and the quality of the food are much worse. The 'chicken' balls had chicken that wasn't proper chicken, it was spongy and had visible segments in it and they were also overcooked. We got a 1/4 duck which came on the bone, not shredded and was too crispy. The cucumber that came with it was in huge slices rather than the fine slithers normally expected. The chips weren't chips but massive hunks of potato that were a mix of under and over cooked. We got a special chow mein also, and while the noodles themselves were nice, there were only three prawns in the whole container. It has put me off ever ordering from here again.

The restaurant was just about deserted at 8pm on a Saturday night. There seemed to more takeaway activity. The waiting staff were pretty young but they were friendly and accommodating on arrival. We wanted to sit in the window table, which wasn't a problem, however the paper table cloth was soiled from a previous meal and though the lovely young lady apologised there was no move to replace it with a clean one.

We go here quite regularly. The food is always good. I particularly like the Cantonese food and generally order Grilled King Prawn Cantonese style with Fried Rice and it is brilliant. Cooked to perfection, decent sized portion with just the right amount of spice, not too much or too little. I do vary my choice sometimes and I have never been disappointed. Though they do a great takeaway trade I think the sit down meals taste better somehow. The Staff are always pleasant and the service is really quick. I do think the restaurant could do with an update to the decor, hence the 4 star rating.

Let me start by saying I've awarded 2 stars, one for the food and one for the young man serving. So why only two stars? Well the "star" of the show is the owner, who never stopped shouting and telling the staff off for the hour we eat. This guy is hilarious but not for the best reasons. He looks like he just came off a building site. My wife asked if he could put on some background music, NO! was the reply and he just walked off. We drove home and couldn't stop laughing recalling the time we dined at The King's Treasure. You have to go once in your life but not for the food but to see the crazy floor show. We should of realised something was wrong as when we entered he said the place didn't really cater for people dining, only take-aways and by god, he was right.

This is not a bad chinese restaurant and we have been here a few times. It's pleasantly and traditionally decorated and the serving staff are very pleasant if very young and inexperienced. We've never had poor food - every dish we have had has been freshly cooked and delicious. However, there needs to be some attention to detail: eg we had cutlery that just seemed a bit stained and our wine glasses had water stains on them so I think maybe glasses, cutlery etc need to be dried properly. The staff, as mentioned, are very pleasant but they are young and, each time we've been in, they appear to have been left to their own devices. This means that they don't necessarily notice when service is needed and customers have to sit and wait (and I am talking about times when the restaurant is quiet).Sometimes the best food in the world might not be enough to encourage return visits if there is not the attention to detail.

It was a good thing I remembered what I had ordered, because I would have had no idea what I was eating other than that. Despite ordering and waiting for the food in the very small waiting area, when the food arrived, it was luke-warm. The carpets were 'sticky' underfoot and in need of a good clean. We were staying in a village about 3 miles away from Horncastle with no internet signal to check trip adviser, so we had no idea of what we were to let ourselves in for. We chose to have a take away, we ordered satay chicken which was swimming in oil, sweet and sour chicken balls which were burnt and in edible, special chow mein and special fried rice which were only just edible for my husband, I could not eat any and as for the chips what can I say, like the chicken balls we think they must of been fried about 5 times as they were more like burnt roast potatoes not resembling chips at all, this was by far the worst meal ever presented to us.

me and my wife ate here a few days ago this restaurant is so dated it needs to get into the 21st century. The decoration is like the first time I went to a Chinese back in the 70's. Ive eaten here before several times but it was a few years ago, every thing is still the same, apart from the food. I had pork ribs as a starter they were overcooked hard tasteless and difficult to eat. My wife had salted chicken which was ok although the portion was small. For the main course I had chilli beef, my wife had chicken with green pepper and black bean sauce we shared an egg fried rice. I enjoyed my beef but my wife thought hers was well portioned but tasteless, the rice tasted burnt we asked them to do it again but it came back tasting even more burnt. All in all the whole experience apart from the staff who were very nice was very disappointing , I think it maybe a few years before we go back again, assuming they change the wall paper.

This made a most pleasant change from the mass production buffet venues which are so popular these days. Waiter service and freshly cooked dishes made the meal more expensive for sure, but not massively so. Having previously used the take away here, I was not disappointed by the food at all, indeed the house special menu at £20 per person was excellent - especially the crispy lamb. I agree with previous posters the decor could do with work, and the whole place was very quiet right after New Year, but the bottom line is we will certainly return and on a busier night I know there will be more atmosphere.

This has to be one of the worst takeawys ever. This place has been down before but bounced back. This time there is no-where to go, its a gonner. Hard chewy meat ( not sure what it even was) Could have been chicken beef or duck and it was in a special chow mein. I didn't eat it, can't do that to my tum. No spice, no taste, nothing to recommend it at all and yet they keep putting their prices up. These are two regulars signing off.

Collected a takeaway - King prawn fried rice, curry sauce chips, and salt & pepper spare ribs with curry sauce and chips. The chips were tasteless and like cardboard, the curry sauce had a weird, sweet aniseed taste, and the prawns were few and far between, AND tasteless. More expensive than wed normally pay, too. Won't be returning.
