Canton House Chinese in East Lindsey

I've had many takeaways over many years (20+ years) from the Canton House, but recently the quality of food has left me disappointed and on one occasion was nearly inedible. Most recent experiences include..... [35] Spare Ribs in Black Bean Sauce: Only 5 overcooked (Black in places) ribs. Very poor meat content (All bones) with NO black bean sauce. The meat DID fall off the bone but too dry to chew. [92] Vegetable Curry with fried rice: Bright orange, salty, grainy, earthy and 5-spice flavoured runny curry soup with vegetables & chewy bamboo shoots. [37a] King Prawn with Green peppers & Black Bean Sauce: Only 8 or 9 King prawns, green and red peppers, carrots and onions in a cornflour rich & VERY VERY salty runny black bean sauce. [40a] Beef King Do: Very chewy beef with undercooked strips of onion, red & green peppers, carrots and PINEAPPLE CHUNKS??? in a VERY sweet red sauce. Not sure what it's supposed to be. . [14] Pancake Roll: Far TOO GREASY and soggy batter. Covered everything in the bag with oil. Nice crunchy beansprouts, but only 2 little prawns. Furthermore all the main dishes are served in smaller plastic containers (they used to be deeper). Attention to detail with flavour, consistency and food quality, I found lacking on occasions. On the plus side, the service has always been good though. COME ON CANTON HOUSE..... YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS.

Absolutely appalling service orders were queuing up some people had waited 2hours,it is quite clear this place has gone downhill.they should tell you when ordering how long your order is going to be.

Really good Chinese. The salt and pepper chili squid is particularly recommended. Another lovely meal last night. Still as good as ever. And another tonight. Still good!

I ordered chicken chow mein satay wasn't very nice chicken over cooked , and sweet and sour pork balls were inedible pork tough as old boots , I ended up just eating the batter that was the best bit, I have had food from here before and it was alright, maybe just an off day but needs to be consistent , very disappointed

As we were staying close by in our campervan thought we would have a Chinese takeaway, we had a chicken fried rice and special fried rice, my husband got a chicken sweet corn soup it was awful, no taste whatsoever in the food and the soup was like dishwater, the worst Chinese we have ever had it was so bland, we threw it away, big and costly mistake should have gone to the fish and chip shop instead

Poor quality and tasteless chicken curry. Rice bland and business could do with renewed decor !! Portions OK, over priced for food quality

Lovely food and lovely people very fair price

Ordered a couple of weeks ago, good start to the experience as the woman that answered the phone was really lovely and helpful. I tried a few different vegetarian bits, the food was ok, if a bit expensive. What really let the experience down was the delivery driver; rudest and least helpful driver I've ever had. He wouldn't even bring my food to the door, I had to go find his car. He also seemed really annoyed that I wanted change for my cash. Probably won't order again even though they're quick and close.

Always nice food from Canton. The best chicken balls in Daventry. Nice and crispy and not soggy and too much batter on the inside like other places. Curry is good too. Never disappoints us and we are regulars. Really nice owners and good prices.

Superb meal for 3 with additional quarter of duck and pancake roll. Portions were generous and the food was very tasty. Sweet and sour Chicken balls are huge 😉

Chicken balls are huge and everything we had have always been tasty - can't fault it. Noodles are also great and good service - always busy so a good sign.

Always the best Chinese takeout with THE best chicken balls in dav! Always friendly over the phone and counter too. We've never had any problems with them.

Great service and really friendly staff. Food has always been cooked fresh to order. Staff are always happy to help and will tailor the ingredients to your liking. Food is served promptly and with a smile. I don't know how they do it but the chips are superb.

Have never had a bad meal from here. The new sign has made it look so much better and the Chicken Balls are the best weve ever had! Always use them when we have a Chinese!

Very nice food and staff polite

Spring rolls. Chicken and pineapple. And egg fried rice. You would think this would be pretty easy to cook for a Chinese....? Sadly mistaken. Chicken was clearly frozen beforehand, some bits were nice and hot, others cold. Completely flavourless and pineapple was like mush. Egg fried rice was stodgy and the spring rolls were like tiny rocks.. did call to complain but phone was put down on me then not answered when I tried to call back.! After seeing some of the other reviews I really wish I had checked first. Should be closed down.

Nice food great choice staff very friendly people and I've always had good clean food from here they do a great deal on some nights too boots would recommend to try 😀 👌

I really like it. Tasty, Competitive prices and can deliver but I think at a cost, I always collect. Normally pretty good on timings so your not hanging around waiting and when you spend certain amounts the add in prawn crackers and a bottle of drink

Tried to order a takeaway over the phone. Unfortunately they would not accept a debit or credit card and said that they only accepted cash. Unbelievable in our cashless society. I did not have the cash and ordered from another takeaway. Canton house needs to update their ways or they will continue to lose customers.

Delicious Chinese and wonderful service

Just had one of the best Chinese meals ever. Would definitely recommend. This take away just gets better and better. The large pancake rolls are really tasty and take up half the plate.

I travel the country working and occasionally have a cheeky chinease. This is the best one I've been to so far. Ordered food here a few times since August 2020 and never been let down with food quality

I had burgers from canton House on the 8th January and mine and my husband burgers was not cooked it was blood and know me and my husband has got food poison so watch what you doing and and check as know they say I should get a doctor note but I can not go out as I have a lot of illness and I only got a takeaway as I got no food

Fast service especially as it seemed quite busy. Food was tasty, the curry had a little twang to help and fulfilled the fizzy drink challenge. Will try again.

Staff are always friendly, chips are the best in the county. Staff are only to pleased to help with orders, like adding or removing certain items from your meal. Only down side is they only take cash.

All I can comment on is the chips they are the best chips I have ever tasted they are HOT which makes a change in daventry they cook them as you order instead of warmed up or keeping warm so when I get home with them they are still hot I am hooked will try take away next 👏👏👏

Go here regularly, best Chinese around, reasonably priced and friendly service. I normally order and wait, 10 mins is longest I’ve had to sit and wait. Wish they were on Just Eat.

Extremely affordable and the best Chinese takeaway in Daventry. Food tastes relatively authentic for British Chinese food.

7pm rang to order a takeaway to be told it would be 45 minutes. Great live 10 minutes away so food should be nice and freshly cooked. Arrived at suggested time to find a packed out takeaway. Asked for our order told it would be another 45 minutes. Went to the pub! Rang again it would be another 30 minutes, so waited again!! Went back again to collect still 2 more orders to go so at least another 20 minutes!!! It’s a joke over 2 hours still no food, gave up cancelled order picked up a kebab instead!!!! Don’t mind waiting if food is good but over 2 hours and still no food what a joke!!!!

Food absolutely disgusting, chips thin and hard and over cooked. Chicken in the curry tasted dry. This was the third bad meal I have had from Canton House.

obviously under new management as food has gone down hill .ordered beef in black bean sauce to find portion size has reduced dramatically to half a container with about 6 small pieces of beef and food was cold . Rang to complain to be told this is now the portion size . Every business increases their prices as they have done but feel conned that they have reduced quantity at the same time .Another customer lost after reading reviews from others on just eat ,trip advisor and their fb page . Losing long standing customers is not the way to go for any business !!!!

Rice no egg tast and dry Vegi charmain no noodles when rang no empathy just excuses

Placed my order at the till and price was different to the board. Queried it and the person on the till had charged me for a different version of the food. They had 'assumed' I had meant that version and not what I had stated. Not keen on the size of the soft noodles either or the tiny chopped up pieces of meat. Did not feel I had got value for money. I may go back but not a very good first impression.

Defo the best takeway in daventry, staff are always nice and polite, delivery is always fast and the delivery drivers are always polite too... 100% recommend to everyone

Waited an hour for a takeout order only to get home and find they’d given us the wrong dishes. I rang and complained and was past to the manager who sounded like a young girl. I explained the error they had made and all she could say was sorry about that. No offer to put it right, only if I wait over an hour for the replacement dishes, meaning th3 bits they did get right would be stone cold. The kicker....these were rice dishes, even a nine cook could prepare. If fact rather the prov8de the dishes I ask for I received a plain rice dish! Disgusting service, disgusting attitude and now having tasted it, disgusting food. We have been regulars at the takeaway fron 20 years. We’ve supported the restaurant through all is transition with the same family. It was sold 6 months ago and the new owners are a joke. Avoid this takeaway and go elsewhere!

Really like the food from Canton House, much prefer the taste to the other Chineses in Daventry

The worst Chinese I have ever had, terrible I strongly advise you to give it a wide berth. Two of the meals were burn and two others were put in the bin.

Staying in a holiday cottage nearby. From the outside this takeaway looks a bit dowdy. The food however was wonderful. Having lived for several years in Hong Kong I can safely say that for a takeaway this is the best we have had in the UK. The special fried rice was unbelievable. Only negative would be that the sweet and sour sauce is, as in many places, a bit "Anglicised". The bbq duck was great. Reasonably priced, quick, hot and so tasty. Could not detect any MSG either. If you are disappointed I will pay for your dinner myself!

Good quality food everytime. Have a very good menu and very helpful staff. Have never had a problem with anything ordered from here.

Weather you order it on a weekend or after 6pm ita ways worth the wait. Couldnt fault it

Consistently good food, but if you're hungry after 6pm on a weekend, either pick it up yourself or go elsewhere, coz you'll be waiting so long on the delivery that you'll eat your own head before you receive it

Food is good, polite staff, would go again if my regular one was closed. Shame they do not deliver out to us though.

Just be very aware of the young guy on the counter at Canton House. He cannot seem to transfer your order to the kitchen accurately. They gave me a dish that I would never have ordered and when I call to complain he says the mistake is my fault...no way do Canton House accept liability for a mistake, in their eyes the customer is always wrong. Go there with caution and at your own risk. Pity that you have to select a star before posting, not even worth one star IMHO.

Decided to go here last night instead of the usual Mancain over on the Grange, What a mistake, we had the mixed starter seaweed ribs etc, it had no satay sauce or anything it was bone dry, we also had the lemon chicken dish that had no taste at all, my lad had the crispy chilly beef that looked like it was made in the dishwasher, I had the noodles with BBQ sauce and large pieces of chicken and pork dish, but the sauce was none existent, it was a "Shocking Excuse" for a takeaway meal never again will I waste my hard earned money here, go to the Mancain over on the Grange, or try the Litter bin just outside the Canton House whatever you find in there will be better than the takeaway.

Canton House are usually good. There are not many Chinese takeaways in the Daventry area and this is one of the better ones. Tasty. At time of writing (Sept 2013) none of the Chinese takeaways in Daventry are on Just-eat or the other online takeaway ordering sites. Which is a shame because I'd certainly be a. Fatter b. poorer and c. full of chinese food every night if they were ordering off these guys.
