Kings Larder in Aberdeenshire

Menu was very poor choice & nothing like on website. Ended up with a poor quality wine at £9.00 per glass & a chicken burger which I didn’t eat as boring (would have preferred a McDonald’s one which would have been a lot cheaper!) Husband had cheeseburger which was average, nothing special. Place is very dark & we needed our phones to read menu. Waitress wasn’t very good. Overall, underwhelming & disappointing!

We were staying at the Braemar Lodges and were recommended the King’s Larder for dinner. It had a wonderful atmosphere, an extensive wine list and straightforward wholesome food cooked to perfection!

So our first visit to the Kings Larder as an alternative to our regular (and outstanding Braemar Lodge). We knew our regular was no more, although hoping it may be rebuilt one day and back to its prime of place at the top of the Braemar food options. The Kings Larder is cozy and quaint and with a simple but wonderfully tasty menu we were hoping for a treat and ended up NOT being disappointed. Service was relaxed and chilled, the owner of the former Braemar Lodge showed us to our table and took our drinks order. Food was duly chosen, Brie bites and haggis bon bons for starters followed by frittata and venison burger. All the food was served in a friendly and relaxed style, no rushing here, and was delicious. The whisky sauce with the haggis was fabulous and the venison burger with blue murder cheese was wonderfully tasty. Chatting to the owner afterwards, it became apparent that they plan to rebuild the Braemar Lodge and put it back to how it was …. Fingers crossed for the whisky lounge and Cullen Skink on the menu 😁 Overall we loved the place, the ambience, the food and the friendly service and have booked to go back again for our last night in Braemar.

Overall a lovely evening. Could only book by text or email but quick response. From outside, looked small and not particularly inviting but was a lovely ambience inside with lovely staff- Polite and efficient. Meals were tasty and not too big. Menu small but not a criticism. Only negative points- songs kept being cut short and different ones played - think on request of 2 women in bar next door who were overly loud, laughing continuously and assume quite drunk. I know a review can't be judged on one experience that may not happen ever again, but the owner perhaps should have considered the other customers and quietened them down a little. BUT- It was a lovely little find.

Myself and my wife had a dinner here and it was absolutely fantastic. All the staff were brilliant, spoke to you as they’ve known you for years. Malcolm made 2 strawberry daiquiris for my wife, the second of which, according to my wife, was the best she’s ever had. We will definitely be going back there as it was just a great place to dine. My family and I were blown away by the amazing accommodations made at Kings Larder last night. Such a wonderful staff and the very best food. Being that it was the night of my Fiancé’s and I’s engagement, I really can’t thank them enough for making us feel special. They went above and beyond in serving us.

A group of 10 friends went here for dinner last night. Lots of choice on the menu, good prices and I was delighted that we were all served our meal, at the same and they were piping hot! Well done to Charlie the Chef, his father the host and all the staff, who were very helpful. Cheers.

What else do you want? Good wholesome food for veggies like us is always a bit of a struggle, but there were options available in a slightly limited menu. We both ended u having the vegan bean burger as a main. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and offered us a choice of tables to allow us to bring our dog in. She was well behaved, which helped our uncertainty as to whether it is right for dogs to be in a restaurant. Good range of local beers!

From a VERY picky eater (i like maybe 2 macaronis) they had some of the best macaroni ever you can even make it gluten free!!! 100% recomend

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Not a massive food menu selection but everything we had was first class. Good beers and wines too.

Great that a restaurant has been reincarnated on this spot after the previous one closed. Good, varied menu and pleasant efficient service.

Great visit last weekend staying at the excellent Braemar Lodges. Staff were very accommodating and the cabins were very comfortable, clean and well equipped. We had dinner at the Kings Larder just down the road. Throughly enjoyed the evening- staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the food was delicious. Well done to all the team! Would highly recommend and will be back!

Stayed in one of the excellent log cabins at Braemar Lodge and strolled down to the Kings Larder for our dinner. A great atmosphere - full of character with a very friendly front of house team. I had the haggis bon bons for starter, which were delicious, and then the King’s Steak, which was perfectly cooked. The Cairngorm Brewery larger is a winner too! Overall, a fantastic evening and all at a very reasonable price (especially when compared to the Fife Arms next door). Thank you - we will be back!

Wow. We had a fabulous night here. The food was absolutely gorgeous and the staff were super. They catered for a party of 11 including 3 children beautifully. Definitely going to make a return visit next time we are down here.

We had a lovely meal, very reasonably priced. Served very hot on hot plates so stayed hot till finished. The staff were very friendly and service was excellent. For a new business hope they do well.
