Kings Head Restaurant in Harrogate

Looking for somewhere dog friendly in Masham and found this gem. Fantastic staff and location. From the moment we walked in the door the staff were both attentive and friendly to both us and our two dogs. They were also very knowledgeable and accommodating of my dietary requirements. Loved the banter with Gaye, Chris and Jo, highly recommended and can't wait to see you in June. Sam & Andy

What a welcome from the comprising Gaye, Chris and Jo. Super breakfast at the King’s Head Hotel and as I walk out onto Masham square, after my sumptuous breakfast, I feel ready to face the day. Popped in for hot drinks with family and our dog. Chris and Gayle were so friendly and the welcome couldn't have been warmer. I'm told that the hot chocolates were particularly delicious and our dog definitely appreciated the treats. We'll definitely be back for a meal next time. Gill

Really welcoming and friendly pub with really good food. Visited with our 4 year old little girl and pup and both were given lots of fuss & attention 😊. Food was really good and extremely attentive service from both Chris & Gaye. Will definitely return when we’re next in the area.

After a short walk around Masham we visited the kings head and had a Lovely lunch with extremely friendly staff, Gaye and Chris , will definitely return 🙂

This place is lovely, set in a market town square. Pet friendly. We were in the main building (there are rooms off the rear yard) This is a very old building, so yes floors creak etc, but the rooms are cosy, modern and very comfortable. Breakfast (included) is pretty vast, and very tasty. The one in the photo is actually a small English! The 2 morning hosts are lovely, with a friendly nothing is too much trouble attitude. Tea, coffee and juice as much as you like and help yourself to the croissants, toast and cereal etc. All the staff are very welcoming. The bar area is very traditional and heated with an open fire. Good selection of decent quality drinks on the bar. Top tip - if you want to eat here (and you should try it) book! There was a steady stream of people turned away so they didn't overwhelm the kitchen. The pies are delicious, as is vegetarian mushroom bourguignon. Served with veg and lovely thick gravy. Dogs are allowed in the bar (you can have your meal here) but not in the restaurant.

We had a lovely warm welcome from Jo, she's a star and works hard to keep all her customers happy. We enjoyed a really tasty Sunday lunch, followed by a hearty breakfast. Gay and Chris were brilliant breakfast hosts friendly and super helpful. Nothing was too much bother and the service was great. The real fires made for a great cosy atmosphere, even at breakfast time! We had a lovely stay and are very happy to recommend this well run, beautifully appointed hotel which gives excellent value and service. Thank you to all the team, you're great.

Lovely restaurant in a quiet square. Great food, lots of choice for both adults and children. The only negative was the service was very slow. They told us they only had one chef. You definitely need to book as despite not being busy they turned away all walk in’s.

Lovely really nice place. We were in one of the chalets out the back. Nice room and nice touches with a note to welcome you chocs and fresh milk canister. It did need a lace curtain at the had to draw big curtain to stop people looking in through door which was straight into bedroom. Bath love a room with a bath. Needed a bit of TLC with decorating especially in bathroom. Wonky tap. Only had continental but good price. Hubby had farmers breakfast which was very filling.

We stayed here for one night to meet up with friends. We have stayed here before in a standard double room, which we thought was a little on the small side, so we booked two family rooms this time. These are located in what was formerly a stable block and afforded us more spacious accommodation. Our room was single storey and had a king sized bed, sofa, open wardrobe and en-suite bathroom. It wasn’t exactly luxurious, but was clean and very comfortable. We ate in the restaurant for both evening meal and breakfast and the food is very nice with a good choice for both. What makes the Kings Head special is the staff - they are all very welcoming, helpful and friendly. The couple, Gaye and Chris, who serve at breakfast are a one-off double act who entertain you with their cheeky banter, but at the same time are super efficient at making sure your needs are met. Oh and by the way, the beer served in the bar is pretty good as well!

Love this pub. Everyone here is so friendly. The space is nice with an outside area too and the food and drinks are delicious. I've had a cocktail, glass of wine and beer here and the selection is a mix of local spirits and beers and the classics. Had sausages and mash for lunch and it was a good portion size and the sausages were quality. I'll be coming back... hopefully.

Breakfast was lovely with plenty to offer from a traditional cooked breakfast to toast, cereals and pastries. Gay and Chris are amazing hosts who couldn’t do enough for you. Nipped in on the off chance in the evening and the staff were fantastic and even though there was only 1 chef on they fitted us in, the food was amazing my wife had a burger and I had a steak pie we even tried the cottage pie croquets side dish the young lady who was our hostess was amazing and very polite.

Breakfast was very good, made all the more pleasant with the attention of Gay and Chris, friendly and efficient.

Spacious accommodation for diners, great staff and good food. Value for money. All well cooked and efficient service. Friendly waitress.

My husband & I called in for a spot of lunch & refreshment. Gay & Chris welcomed us with such genuine hospitality. They were so chatty & polite….we felt at home straight away. We both ordered scampi, chips & peas. They were served red hot & were delicious. The choice of food is very good….something for everyone. My husband opted for a pint of Leeds Pale to compliment the food. I had coke as I was driving. I was asked if I wanted ice & a slice which is all too rare these days. Location of the pub is fantastic as it is right in the square so very easy to park. Warm & welcoming…thank you very much

We had a lovely time at the Kings Head in Masham. The breakfast was excellent and the service from Gay and Chris even better.

Had pork belly disappointed as no crackling accompanied by the tiniest amount of mash (my 18 month old grandson would eat more )"and 2 very small pieces of carrot. Very tasty but had to go for fish and chips 2 hours later

We had a lovely one night stay at the Kings Head. Room was a good size with a great bathroom, the beams made it feel atmospheric although we did hit our head on them a few times! The staff were very helpful and friendly especially Tracy who checked us in and Gay and Chris who served us our breakfast with a smile! A lovely hotel … We will return.

Gr8 service & banter . Gay & Chris a brilliant with the dogs. They are very funny & love a bit of banter. The pole dancer loved Gay she had the measure of him. Food hearty had scampi & chips with mushy & garden peas. Sadly didn’t have enough room for pudding

Absolutely brilliant food, beautiful pub and an outstanding friendly atmosphere. Gay and Chris are superb. We even got a blueberry muffin as Gay heard me mention it was my husbands birthday, fantastic service.

Gay and Chris were lovely and welcoming. Gay is a very polite woman and made us feel very welcome. She also accommodated our gluten free needs well and there was even a gluten free child’s menu which was very reassuring for us. Food is probably 4* and could be slightly improved but the service and ambiance is lovely.

Very nice lunch at the Kings Head today , all staff really lovely , especially Gay and Chris who made a huge fuss of our little dog , bringing her sausages which she wolfed down ! First visit to Masham, definitely return to try out the local breweries too !

The Kings Head was recommended to us by a friend who lives in Masham. Our room was good and dog friendly. We had breakfast hosted by Gay & Chris who were so welcoming and helpful. Our dogs were spoilt rotten by them. We had our (excellent) breakfast in the bar next to the open fire, lovely! Evening meals were served by friendly and accommodating staff. There was a good menu selection and the food was first class.

Room was warm and comforatble (except the bathroom heater wouldn't work). Lovely filling breakfasts with friendly staff (Gay, Chris and Josh). Nice comfy seats in lounge, and we enjoyed our evening meal. Parking handy right outside, and it was a quiet location in the market square. Would stay there again.

Three night stay at the Kings Arms - this was not our first visit, we return here often because its a great hotel and we love Masham. The staff at the hotel from front desk to bar staff to housekeeping were all warm and welcoming. Breakfast was spot on everyday served by Gay and Chris who couldn't be more helpful. Had x1 evening meal as well which was really tasty - best lasagna I have ever eaten which was a nice surprise.

Made booking online. Arrived slightly early - 15 mins. Frosty reception, told to wait in bar, which was fine. Went back at the booking time to find someone else had been seated at our table - no communication between staff. Ordered meal - sharing platter - tasty, but not enough bread for the Camembert/terrine. Main course - cold sauce for steak, thought OK as was still tasty, but rest of food also cold. One of the waiting team blatantly overheard me saying about the sauce being cold, but didn't respond. No-one asked how the meal was during the meal, as I would have said it was cold. Asked for bill - told the waiting team it was cold as an advisory. Left - will not be going back. Decidedly underwhelmed. Huge potential here - nice setting, but they have to improve their service/food.

The last time we visited the Kings Head was 18 years ago and nothing much has changed, which was a good thing. We stayed for 2 nights during half term and it was great. We had breakfast and evening meal on both days and lunch the first day. The food was delicious but the serving times didn't match what was advertised on the menus so we missed out on lunch the second day as they stopped serving early. The morning staff were superb they were professional but good fun especially Gay and Chris. It made a nice change from some stuffy establishments who aren't very personal with their guests. Gay and Chris were good fun yet they didn't drop the ball when it came to service. If I went back to the Kings Head it would be because of them. 😁 The room we stayed in was super hot when we arrived, this was because the previous guests left the radiators on but the staff rallied round and got us an extra fan, which was perfect. The entrance/stairwell to rooms 16 & 17 could do with a bit of attention, it didn't match immaculate rooms. Also room 16's floor boards were so noisy that we couldn't walk 2 steps without alerting everyone. It was annoying especially during the night. Overall, it was a lovely stay and nothing was too much trouble. Its a popular place for visitors and locals and I can understand why with the friendly staff and delicious food. We would definitely go back. It was a lovely community vibe, we loved it.
