This lovely pub was a wonderful recommendation by a stranger! The food was delicious, the staff were attentive and helpful, and the atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming. Being a wheelchair user, it is accessible via the garden area, the staff removed a chair at the table for me, although I'm unsure about the amenities as I didn't need to use them. With that being said, I would recommend this delightful pub.

Excellent Sunday dinner ! Visited today and sampled the Sunday dinner which was first rate. The new owners have put a lot of thought and effort into this venture. Excellent choice of meats and plentiful vegetables, and a new addition of your own gravy boat ! Simple but so thoughtful Reasonable price and good customer service Well done Michael and Lizzie !

We had a really delicious meal at the Kings Head - the food was beautifully cooked. The fish and chips had really fresh fish in a light crispy batter and the nut roast was very tasty with perfectly cooked veggies. The new landlord gave us a warm and friendly welcome and the changes to the pub decor and lighting have given it a good atmosphere. It's now a really nice place to come for both a drink and/or food. We'll definitely be back!

Small/medium 'locals pub', just popped in for a couple of shandies after Sutton Bonington show. Nice friendly welcome, quiet but nice atmosphere (Sunday 4.30), locals seem friendly... 😉 Didn't try the food but it looked & smelt very good... PLUS !! We got to see the Lancaster fly-by whilst here - FAB !! (see vid) Will return when next in the area. Many thanks

The end to a perfect 4 mile walk around the countryside of Sutton Bonnington would you believe, 5 weary lady walkers sitting in the sunshine at 11.45am waiting for the pub to open The landlord gave us a warm welcome after opening the front doors, and how decadent, we were the first there. After ordering a well earned long drink, and lunch we chatted away whilst waiting for lunch to appear What a lovely site, the fish chips and mushy peas looked appetising, so did the prawn cocktails and i had scampi and salad, and it all tasted as good as it looked Thank you for your warm hospitality from you and your efficient staff, we will call again soon

me and my friends went inside this pub during the storm yesterday afternoon and the workers were quite pleasant and gave us towels and somewhere to sit which was appreciated. however, shortly after the women who was on shift told me to “cover up because i’m in a public place” when it was 28° with no rain outside about 10 minutes before that, i didn’t have anything to “cover up” with but she continued to say it to me multiple times after. me and my friends saw other girls in that pub showing the same amount of skin as i was and they didn’t seem to get told to cover up. it’s even more disappointing that it came from a woman's mouth. it’s a pub, it’s really not that deep that i’m wearing a bikini top in hot weather. on a good note, the male worker did not mention a thing and kept checking up on us so props to him.

Me and my friends came in last night after it had been hammering down from the bad storm and at first the workers were really sweet and gave us towels and gave us our own space to sit in. However the lady who was working there became extremely rude and made comments about how we were dressed and told us to “cover up because we were in a public place” . Bare in mind it was 28° so there wasn’t a lot of options to be fully covered. we were wearing shorts and a crop top. Its a pub!! we saw a few girls wear the exact same outfit and not have anything said to them. This comment made me and my group feel extremely violated and targeted and we left shortly after. I will not be coming back because of that lady. However i will say that the man working there at the time was very sweet and did keep checking up on us.

We have been going to the king's head for a long time, but tonight was the last time. The meal wasn't good, some of the chips were hard, the cheesecake was not cheese cake. The food was not home made, it tasted and looked like it came straight from an Iceland shop. Out door seating is uncomfortable, it is dog friendly which as dog owners we don't mind but we would of liked to be able to sit and eat our food without their dogs being able to come and sit begging at our table.

Don't expect any 'frills'. The Pub is a typical village pub - log burner, friendly welcome and good food cooked to order by the landlady Caroline. No piped music, no slot machine, no pool table, just conversation and laughter (and lots of dogs !) - three cheers for a 'proper' pub !!

A good pub.! The food was excellent, quality, service very good. Priced very fair for the quality. Quick an attentive service, even tho it was packed. We didn't book. We sat outside in a very good covered area, the landlord came and put a very efficient heater on without being asked to. Good parking. Level wheelchair access altho it is a small and fairly narrow pub inside. We were very comfy outside, warm, no wind getting in, comfy padded benches and chairs. It was a cold day.! We all had a brilliant Sunday roast. Top marks. Recommended. 😊👍. ps. Dog friendly.!

We had Sunday Lunch at The Kings Head. This was a first time visit for my wife and I, and we have to say everything, from the service to the meal was exceptional. We pre-booked a table for 1.30pm, but arrived 10 minutes late due to traffic, but no problem, everything was ready for us. We both ordered the Sunday Roast, there was a choice of 3 meats, which you could mix and match, which was a nice surprise, plus lots of vegetables. The meal was superb and so much of it, no skimping on portions here. We followed with a dessert, and once again the portions were large, it’s definitely one of the best Sunday lunches we have had anywhere. Add lovely, friendly staff into the mix, plus a great pint of beer, you have all the makings for a very enjoyable couple of hours. We will definitely be returning, and has it’s also dog friendly, that’s the icing on the cake for us. Thank you all, we look forward to seeing you again.

Warm and friendly pub. Stopped off earlier in the day to book a table for this evening. Very prompt and courteous service from friendly staff with good knowledge of the gluten free options available. Food arrived soon afterwards. I had the gluten free fish and chips with one of the best gluten free batters that I have tasted. My daughter had an equally tasty gluten free pizza and my wife had the ‘normal’ scampi and chips which she thoroughly enjoyed. A great find close to the university and will definitely return when we come back up here. Thanks for some great cooking and a warm welcome!

My husband and I have recently moved to the area. We parked up here to have some dinner. As it was so close to the local shop we thought we’d grab some bits quickly before it closed and then head to the pub to eat. We were reading the memorial bench outside the pub and before we had even left the car park the owner (what we think was the owner) came out and shouted aggressively, “are you alright, you’ve left your car in my car park.” To which we were quite shocked. My husband calmly got back in the vehicle and we ended up going to a lovely pub with friendly staff in west leak. Just an outrageous way to speak to someone, and a potential customer. To add there is no clear postage or signage to our knowledge indicating that the car park we had entered was a private car park and we are completely new to the area. I think we won’t be returning here because she was incredibly rude.

unfortunately The Kngs Arms have decided to do away with table service i guess to cut down costs ,which in my opion put them above places like The Ring of Bells / Maxwells watched tonight as there was a big que at the bar as a customer was getting a large round of drinks which held everthing up.A table just across from us was also complaining [to them selves] about the system and also a table of gentlemen were doing the same as we left shame as we enjoyed the service side .

After eating at other pub restaurants in area I am going to find it had to be positive. On a plus side the dishes were VERY hot no worry of them cooling for at least 30 mins.. I had a very ordinary Steak and Guinness pie, the pastry topping was not cooked within the same bowl as the meat. Struggled to taste any Guinness, maybe as the pie was so hot, maybe reheated in a microwave. Would I recommend this pub.. NO, there are better in the area.

Went for the fish and chips as this is always a good barometer of a venue. It was piping hot, reasonable portion (I went large) but the batter which claimed to be a “special recipe” was quite bland. Dessert was nice but clearly bought in from the cash and carry. Ale was well kept. Very solid pub food that in 1990 would have earned 5 stars but in 2019 most pubs have moved on a long way (tartre sauce in slimes little tearing packets??). A little attention to detail could make this a destination eatery rather than a convenience eatery. You won’t get bad food, but you won’t leave smiling either (as the guests on the next table evidenced).

I treated my Mum to the King’s afternoon tea today, which we both agreed was absolutely delicious. We were greeted by a lovely young lady behind the bar and all of the staff were attentive and friendly throughout. Our table had clearly been prepared with care and the vintage china was a really nice touch. The tea included freshly made sandwiches with a variety of fillings, homemade scones (still warm) and a fantastic choice of cake and sweet treats. The homemade mixed berry trifle was a highlight. The attention to detail was perfect from the table arrangement to the presentation of the food. We were both extremely impressed and feel that this is by far the best afternoon tea we have had (and we’ve had a few!) We couldn’t quite manage all of our food and so we took the rest home. This was no trouble for the staff. What a cracking afternoon tea! Thank you for a really enjoyable experience, hope to see you again soon.

There were too many people packed into such a small place, we went in as a group of four and found it hard to get an area to stand together, let alone sit at a table! We did get a seat in the end and shared it with another couple, (they were lovely people, and it was great to meet them) who were also struggling to get a seat. The beer was good once we got one.
