On a family trip we booked an evening meal. Traditional pub with a great atmosphere and friendly locals. It was busy and we enjoyed a drink in the garden before eating inside. The food was excellent. I had a steak which was cooked to perfection. My granddaughter had a cheese burger and my wife had lasagne. The real ale was kept to perfection. However the star of the show was Sophie and her kitchen team. Sophie was welcoming and a great host. She looked after us throughout the evening and was funny and charming. If you're in the area drop in for a drink but make sure you book if you want to eat.

Absolutely fantastic Sunday roast: really impressed with the food here! Our families ate the beef, pork, vegetarian and vegan nut roasts and everyone was wowed by the great taste and also the generous perfectly cooked vegetables . Fabulous all round. Helpful and accommodating staff. Beautiful scenery and views, indoor and a variety of outdoor seating in sun and shade- highly recommend Sunday lunch here.

I was born and brought up in France Lynch but left some 40 years ago to see the world - a trip down memory Lane took us to the Kings Head for lunch. It’s changed a bit, 2 bars have become one - it’s warm and bright, and does food - things have moved on! It was so nice to see it’s still a village pub with a lunchtime trade - we had the scampi and it was excellently cooked and a decent pint to go with it. Retired and living in Scotland we probably won’t be back again If you want a pub off the beaten track with good beer and honest prices in a real Cotswold village give it a go .

Hard to find and get to by car - narrow lanes all around - we had stopped here some years previously while walking. Staff are friendly and beer was very good - Doombar and Stroud Budding were perfectly cellared - but this is a small pub in a difficult location so not busy - we had options of scmpi and chips or curry so we had one of each. Both were adequate but not overly appealing. The attraction os the lovely peaceful locatio with good views over the valley - and we read about upcoming music events which looked interesting - we'll walk over.

Crazy weather meant it was too cold to sit out, even with patio heaters. Ordered by phone to collect. Limited menu but two options we wanted were available. Stick to main roads to get there but last bit is single car wide. Meant we had a nice cosy warm dinner at home to help wash down our Anniversary champagne.

Small rural pub in hard to find location. The King’s Head has a few tables for food next to a cosy bar which serves a decent pint of real ale. There is a reasonable sized car park with a beer garden next to it. The menu was limited and from it I had sausage eggs and chips. All good. In my opinion this would make a great local for beer drinkers. The limited food menu would not entice me to drive out unless I particularly wanted a pub grub meal. Staff were pleasant, helpful and courteous. NOTE: Don’t attempt to drive down the road to the pub below, it narrows dramatically at the first bend and the majority of cars (including me) will get stuck. All the lanes in this area are very narrow.

Lovely little village pub that was packed full of Locals and visitors, found it well recommended on trip advisor. Booked a table by phone ( there isn’t a lot of tables) and went along in the evening. We were made to feel welcome straight away by locals and staff and quickly found out table which had been reserved for us. I personally would recommend the Doombar for any real ale lovers it was an excellent pint. Their was plenty on the menu and for our mains we both ordered the Lamb Shank in a red wine and Rosemary sauce, with new potatoes and veg, it was outstanding, very tasty, the veg wasn’t over cooked and delicious, we could not fault the service, in all we had a good night and a lovely meal. If you are driving here try and find the best way in as the lanes leading up to the pub are treacherously tight, the lady at the bar said you could park above the pub somewhere and walk down to it. It’s probably best to plot beforehand, it’s not impossible to get to the car park (we did) but for nervous drivers it’s tight and worrying if someone comes in the opposite direction. Don’t let it put you off, it’s a great little pub.

We called in for a drink during a walk with our two dogs. The beer was good. The pub has a lovely garden at the front with a nce view across the countryside. It would be lovely in the summer. It was lucky that we didn't get there earlier because dogs are not welcome when food is being served. Service had just ended so we were allowed in . This is a shame because we might have come back another time to eat. It is very unusual in the Cotswolds for dogs not to be welcome at all times in a pub. Even the fancy gastro pubs and most cafes allow dogs. So sadly we won't be back.

Went to the Kings Head with a friend and decided to eat whilst we were there. Saw other diners food coming out and decided to try the Prawn baguette option. It arrived quickly at the table having been booked by hailing the waitress on her way back to the kitchen. Brown torpedo rolls arrived stuffed with prawn mayonaise and the rolls had been warmed as well. Dish arrived with a dressing of mixed sald leaves with a vinigraite on the leaves. The ensemble was simply wonderful for the price at the time of £5.50 I think. Great atmosphere as well and a good pint of real ale to partner the food Stroud Budding bitter in fact.

We came for a wedding and 4 of us stayed here for long weekend . We had everything we needed. The loft was very well appointed, comfortable, and with lovely views over the valley. Pat had left food for our breakfast and we had a very good "pub grub" meal on the Friday night . If we had stayed longer we would have walked in the beautiful countryside right next to the pub. It's a lovely village, and a little off the beaten track so quite peaceful and not full of tourists. The roads through the village are VERY narrow, but with care a car can be driven right to the pub. There are lots of good places to visit a short drive away and wonderful walks from the pub itself. I would definitely recommend this as a holiday apartment. Thank you Pat.

Regularly on a Sunday we head off in our classic Triumph to nowhere in particular - just pottering about: this is how we stumbled across this hidden gem a couple of years ago. Nestled in the hillside, down a very narrow lane, but with a not-huge car park, it has a lovely sheltered garden with complete countryside outlook. We had a baguette meal each (ordering different choices & sharing), it was superb. Consequently we have been back numerous times since, seemingly approaching from different parts of the higgledy piggledy village each time! We always have a baguette, the Doombar is served to perfection and the wine served in a high quality glass. Our last visit, we took a chance on Mother's Day and although busy, we managed to claim an alcove table, as it was just a little chilly for the garden. Many customers appeared to be locals, the service was, as always friendly and professional and the atmosphere warm and welcoming. If I had reviewed this pub last year it would have had 1 star less because of the tired unwelcoming toilets, however the newly built ladies and gents were just what it needed.

Everyone was very happy with their meals, definitely the best Sunday lunch we've had in the area. Nice touches included pork crackling served with pork, and special smaller portions for children and elderly people with smaller appetites. The pub itself is a traditional Cotswold pub- nothing fancy, but still nice. We're in this area of the Cotsowlds for a month and have visited The Kings Head three times so far: twice for Sunday dinner, and once for drinks. It's the real deal! With the exception of us, there's not a tourist in sight and the locals couldn't be more friendly and welcoming (and that includes the innkeepers). The second time we arrived, we were treated like old friends. The pub itself is like something from a movie set - but not overdone like some of the more tourist-oriented places. You can sit at the bar, at a cozy table inside, or at one of the picnic tables outside when the weather is good. Each time we've come, there has been a good-sized crowd eating and drinking and we've been encouraged to join in the conversations over a pint or glass of wine (both reasonably-priced).Our meals have also been totally enjoyable! We celebrated my husband's birthday there, and being vegetarians, we ordered the vegetarian Wellington. It was delicious - as good as anything we'd get in our food-focused home town of San Francisco. We will return again before we leave, and we recommend The Kings Pub to anyone who isn't afraid to get off the Tourist Track and experience a genuine English country pub, complete with friendly people, good food and drink, and an authentically-British atmosphere.

The atmosphere in this pub is a delight. It is a lovely pub in a quiet location. The bottle of Proseco we ordered was served correctly and tasted very good. It was also a great price at £16.50p. However a meal out is more than the atmosphere and the wine. I can get that at home. The food did not go well. I ordered a very rare steak and my other half ordered a medium steak. I was served a medium steak and she was served a rare steak. I only like steak when it is rare. There was no ok check so I had to actually go to the bar to make my complaint. A very polite man came to the table who I presume to be the owner/chef. He apologized for the problem, blamed the waitress and offered to make the meal again. As this would have put the meal completely out of sync I refused his offer and he said I did not have to pay for the course. As both meals had been served incorrectly it would have been proper to charge for neither of the main courses, however I did not want to make any more of a scene so I did not complain further. We settled up finished the proseco and left. I am happy to go back for a drink but I will never eat there again.

It was frequented mainly by locals and has a limited menu but the food and service were great. It has a garden area and seating outside which would be good in the summer. It stocks a good range of local beers and wine. If you are in the area eat here. You will not be disappointed.

I can't believe I did this. I ordered a vegetarian meal. well, nearly. And it was excellent. What a great pub. Perched above the village of Chalford with its stone buildings and narrow lanes - leave the Rangerover at home - where one almost feels one has strayed into a corner of Cornwall. Not easy to find, one has to make a point of going there, but the combination of flourishing and hard to find, says it has to be good. The décor, too pretentious a word for this down to earth establishment, is typical olde pub, but in a good way. Pubby carpet, offwhite walls, beams, all a bit ramshackle and funky. Rather like being in a well worn sitting room. No muzak. No games machines. No tele. Bliss. There's a garden with both covered and uncovered seating. The staff, very welcoming. Decent choice of ales and ciders. Locals debating the Times crossword in the bar. It felt like a locals pub - no big boozy parties. Like a step into the past, and all the better for it.We went on Sunday. The menu is small, and all fresh. No huge list of 'specials' out of a freezer.Despite there being roast beef or pork on offer, wife and I both had Nut Wellington, which came piping hot with vegetarian or meat gravy, and an excellent selection of vegetables including some super roast potatoes. Then chocolate orange sponge with ice cream, superb. And not expensive. There was no sense of being rushed, relaxed service, stayed 2 hours over our meal and a drink.Five stars. Will certainly go again.

Food was cooked to order, Gluten-free not a problem. Good range of real ales. Friendly locals. Busy on a Monday night with live musicians jamming. Difficult to find but well worth it.

Only went for a drink, but the staff were friendly and attentive. A lovely pub in the middle of an idyllic village. Quite busy for a Monday night with friendly locals. Would definitely visiit again, probbaly in the summer when I could sit outside - but away from the smokers who seem to congregate just outside the main door

The Kings Head is a fine pub. Not only because of the good selection of beers, really good wines and delicious food (the nut wellington at sunday lunch an absolute favorite!), but also because the local people make you feel so very welcome! This includes the landlord and landlady, Pat and Mike Duff. On a monday night, there is live music to enjoy and even to join in if wanted. We stayed for 12 days in the loft that they rent out at the premises and had the best time. A perfect view of the valley, a lovely private garden in which we enjoyed the sun every day. A view of the pub garden from our kitchen window and noise was never a problem. This is a pub you could walk in, all by yourself and find yourself having a great time because people connect (if you want) and the garden is lovely. We hope to go back there soon, because we certainly will! My husband and I went here after reading some online reviews. Our high expectations were surpassed and the vegetarian roast was even more beautiful. It was excellent value for money, imaginative and sensitive to vegetarian considerations (a different vegetarian gravy was on offer). My husband (who is not vegetarian) enjoyed his meat roast though kept looking longingly at mine too. We wish we lived nearer as would definitely be regulars :) thank you for a lovely experience!

The Kings Head never disappoints; cosy in the winter and beautiful beer garden for the summer. Live music, excellent food and friendly, welcoming owners. What more could you ask for? A good selection of wine and beer? Oh yeah, they've got that too :-) Keep up the good work Pat and Mike.

Have been coming to the Kings Head for over 10 years now, and can promise you its one of the finest in the regionFrom the friendly owners, Pat and Mike, to the stunning view down one of the Stroud Valleys, it really is a hidden gem. Great range of local ales, Doombar, Cornish, plus the usual lagers, and a good menu of freshly cooked food as well. Cater for vegetarians, my wife has indeed had many lunch and evening meals here. In particular their Sunday roast is excelllent, but suggest phoning up and booking as it does get busyVery family friendly with a small play area and one of the best beer gardens for miles around.Dogs welcome unless food is being servedSeek this wonderful venue out, you will not be disappointed!

It's always surprised me that in a town like Stroud where there are a large number of vegetarians it's almost impossible to get a decent veggie Sunday pub lunch. Brie and broccoli bake or vegetarian lasagne don't quite cut it when all around are enjoying their Sunday roast, but that's what is usually found on offer in most pubs in the area. The management of the Kings Head have obviously taken note of this as they provide exactly the same menu for veggies as for meat eaters, with the substitution of a delicious Nut and Mushroom Wellington instead of meat. All the other trimmings are the same, including roast potatoes, three or four veg, and a vegetarian Madiera gravy. Considering the fact that the normal Kings Head Sunday lunch is renowned, and that there are usually four real ales on offer, vegetarians would be daft to go anywhere else.

One of the few proper country pubs left.Independent concern, owned by a very independent landlord!!, real ales kept really wellNo jukebox or machines. Live music or nothing!!Monday night is open mic night produces some incredible local talent, young and old and extremely varied.Takes a little finding as the lanes that lead to this gem are very narrow, but be brave! it's worth it.You won't find any better value for food in Gloucestershire, especially Sunday lunches.

Eating at The Ship is always brilliant - really amazing food and lovely atmosphere - but I think this occasion deserves a special mention as we had the most wonderful evening despite a local power cut (where pretty much every other business had to close). The Ship staff were determined to go ahead and, after phoning to give us a heads up, provided a perfect candlelight atmosphere and and even more perfect food (somehow without electricity!) The Christmas menu was every bit as amazing as we had hoped. The staff coped amazingly with the lack of power and large amount of guests, all of whom seemed to be having a brilliant time. A really special Christmas evening with friends. Thank you.

Excellent coffee, quick friendly, cheerful, amusing staff who are keen to look after customers. A welcome, wam, feeling that many much larger businesses could learn to provide. Of course we will be back.
