The whole trip was ruined by just how poor this hotel is. 4 of the beds were damaged, the family room was just an unused function room, their was a glass window that looked directly into our room so made privacy an absolute non-starter. Add this to the fact our "private" bathroom was shared with every other guest and the lock was both too high and tight for my children to safely use without risk of them being locked in due to the lock being internal only and therefore made this site more unsafe for anyone with young children. The room also happened to be directly above the dancefloor and DJ booth meaning sleep wasn't exactly forthcoming until the music stopped. At one point I was playing guess the song with my family. The contact numbers were both ignored, the staff conveniently weren't available until (Midday) after we had to check out (11am) I wouldn't advise this to my worst enemy, nevermind people I actually liked! The whole trip was ruined by an awful room. No wonder they don't show images of the family room online!

Went today with the family. Really felt sorry for the lass behind the bar. Massively understaffed, and not on. She was absolutely brilliant. Need to up their game as just not on leaving her to try and cope with serving all the food and trying to manage the bar at the same time

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this fantastic pub and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations! The food was delicious - every dish was bursting with flavour and expertly prepared. From the appetizers to the desserts, each bite was a culinary delight. Not only was the food outstanding, but the staff service was impeccable. The waitstaff was attentive, and friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure that my dining experience was perfect. They were knowledgeable about the menu, offered great recommendations, and made me feel truly valued as a customer It was also dog-friendly. Overall, I highly recommend this pub to anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience. The combination of delectable food and exceptional service makes it a standout destination. I can't wait to return and indulge in more of their amazing dishes. Five stars all the way!

Very good value in centre of town. Old victorian house. Shared bathroom - however I could not get the shower to go warm. Clean, warm, well presented rooms. Fire doors to each room made it noisy. Good checkout time of 11am. Great for staying 9ne night if going out in town. I would book again.

We've eaten thai food here before and it was good but this time my husband had stir fried chicken and thai red curry sauce which was barely edible!. The cheap rubbery chicken wasn't stir fred, it was the same as I had in my green curry. The red thai sauce was the worst ever - salty, a strange consistency and lacking in flavour. He wouldn't complain and noone asked us if all was ok (they were too busy playing on their phones!). My thai green curry was nice but I'm afraid we wouldnt go back!

Great food, a really tasty Thai menu that represents good VFM. Let down this time by serving sour real ale. When we mentioned the issue, it was dealt with immediately, without fuss, questions, or queries, but it was such a shame that it happened in the first place. It won't stop me returning.

I stayed here with my Dad before we started the Cumbria Way. If the location was your only requirement for a room then I’d highly recommend the hotel. It’s extremely convenient for starting the Cumbria Way, but then arguably anywhere in Ulverston would be as it’s only a small town. The only other positive was the young girl working behind the bar, how she remains professional and smiling when she’s seemingly surrounded by chaos I have no idea. We stayed Thursday evening and having returned to Kings Arms after some food elsewhere we found a very drunken landlady with a very drunken local. Without going into detail, over the next few hours chaos ensued. You’re staying above a pub, so of course a level of noise is expected. However we experienced hours of drunkenness, shouting, fighting and singing until the early hours. Please don’t stay here if you’re wanting to sleep or feel safe. Judging by other reviews, it’s something that happens regularly. EDIT: To respond to the crazy reply below. I was introduced to her as the owner, I’ve read articles and reviews about her as the owner, and I watched her aggressively push my dad in complete confusion as the owner. Apologising would have been better instead of some myth about being on holiday.

I have been a member of Ulverston all my life, I love this establishment, especially on fine fest, dickensian festival, and the summer season. It catches the sun right outside the front and is dog friendly which is great for us as we have a 3 year old Lab!! which gets treats each time she comes in! It is a family run pub which we always come too!! Can’t wait to come in on fine fest as they have the best entertainment.

I ordered from Ulverston Eats. They unexpectedly cancelled my order and closed the takeaway option. Poor.

First of all, a couple of points to bear in mind for anyone reading this. Although out of control of the P&W, the only parking on street is at a premium and very limited. This was our first visit here and the restaurant itself is quite small and intimate (absolutely nothing wrong with that) and therefore booking a table is a must during a 7/7:30 pm sitting as all tables were occupied. Not certain if the dining room is due to be decorated, but it really could benefit from a lick of paint to update the drab walls which were all totally bereft of any pictures and the only decoration was a tatty plant in a bottle. As a suggestion, perhaps tea lights could add to a current lack of ambiance? The two lads (brothers?) running the dining room were nothing short of polite and attentive (no complaints there), took our orders and did ask if we wanted more drinks regularly. What was a nice touch were the glasses of water with ice and lemon served to us as we were seated. I don't mind paying a premium price if the food is good, but the sharing bread and olives was a tad expensive for just that was, and the rest of the menu was on the steep side too for what was nothing special (sorry P&W) but very nice. We ordered our main meal, but it transpired that the table next to us got it and was eventually taken away from them and an apology given to them and us, which we did accept with no complaint but really shouldn't happen in a small restaurant. We were going to order a sweet, but after seeing the small portion our other 'neighbours' were served (again for the cost), we decided against it. What we should have done was to look on line at the menu and cost - totally the fault was ours but in our defence M'Lord, we had extremely poor internet service! It's often said you don't get a second chance at first impression, which can be somewhat disputed. That said, taking everything into account, I don't think we'd make a return visit but do wish them all the best for the future.

We had booked 5 rooms through Booking.com well in advance and when we arrived at 4pm we were told that our booking had been cancelled (Booking.com had taken our money the previous day). This eventually got sorted by Booking .com and we found good alternative accommodation for the night but the way we were treated by staff at the Derby Arms was awful.
