That this glorious tearoom seems to have closed for good. Loved the food and atmosphere so much. There was nowhere as magical to spend in the beautiful garden

In the heart of Lacock, this restaurant did the job for us after wandering round the Abbey and its grounds. It was pretty busy but service was OK and our food and drinks were fine. On a nice day the outside seating looks lovely and a couple had braved it while we were there. Worth calling in if in the area.

Miguel was super polite, welcoming, attentive and professional. Quite a feat for our large party during a very busy weekend teatime! The food, menu and environment were all delightful.

Busy for February but we didn’t wait an excessive time and the food, shepherds pie and sausage and mash was well cooked with a nice range of fresh vegetables House tea was very nice and the salted caramel and date cake superb- moist but not overly sweet Pleasant staff, interesting surroundings I would have no hesitation in recommending

We visited for lunch after Lacock Abbey, the restaurant was really busy but the service was really good. The leek & sweet potato soup was really tasty, the Welsh rarebit my partner loved it and the cakes were simply delicious. A really great place to stop for lunch. They had alot of options from meals to sandwiches or cream teas. Lots of outdoor seating for the summertime as well.

Chose this for lunch after visiting Lacock Abbey. A wander through the village brought us to this tea room. It's not very big - we were very lucky to get a table for 8. Service was friendly and food was fantastic. It's mainly sandwiches/brunch options but they did have a couple of other hot mains as specials. I had the scrambled eggs and mushrooms which was the best scrambled eggs I've had in many years. Others on our table had bacon sandwiches (which looked delicious), spicy parsnip soup and Welsh rarebit which were all equally successful. Overall great value and a great find.

We live locally. But not been here before usually because its been busy (unsurprisingly.) I have a disability and the manageress could not have been more helpful and friendly. I ate Welsh rare bit. Really delicious. My wife had Apple cake which was delicious. All staff were so friendly. A nice touch was from the waiter who said to my wife they could warm the cake and serve it with custard "as it's a cold day." We'll be back.

An absolute gem in the most picturesque village of Lacock. Definitely worth a visit for a cream tea or a slice of cake in the garden in the summer, or perhaps for a spot of lunch. The food and the service were both faultless and the setting is stunning. Will definitely return.

While walking around the village of Lacock we were ready for morning tea after an early start from London Heathrow. The Hunting Lodge is situated in a lovely garden with an interesting tea room, full of character. Nice tea and a lovely slice of sponge cake made for welcome refreshment in a cosy atmosphere.

Always come here for an afternoon tea and have never been disappointed. I came here recently and how the best sausages and mash with greens. The staff are lovely and a lovely place to visit after walking around the Abbey.

Last time we came it was the height of summer and we sat out in the loveliest of gardens. This time it was perfectly cosy inside with a roaring fire on a nippy and drizzly day. Despite the name, I had 3 vegan cake options to choose from, while my companion was faced with a vast array of choices. My flapjack was just right - generously loaded with enough nuts and seeds for me to pretend it was healthy, while gloriously oozy on the more indulgent side. Add to that a warm welcome and efficient, friendly service and it makes for a relaxing afternoon treat. And it's probably a good thing I couldn't afford to come every day!

What a gem of a find. A cosy warm small cafe with log fire burning hosted by a really friendly and hospitable French owner. All home cooked fresh food which was to an extremely high standard. And the cakes!!! Wow!! Do not miss this place - if you can get in.

We struggled to located this tearoom but glad we persevered. Slightly hidden, we were greeted in a friendly manor before sitting next to the large open fire. My breakfast was a little on the small side but our pot of tea was excellent ( the choices of teas are plentiful). The menu has a good choice food wise too and has an attractive rear garden. Prices were on the high side but I guess the location pumps things up. A very nice cozy tearoom situated a 3 minutes walk from the Abbey. Visited 28th November 2019.

Hidden away but what a find! So pleased we chose to eat here. I don’t normally order scrambled eggs because they are always so overcooked but wow. These were amazing! So soft and beautiful flavour! Other people with me had the King John’s breakfast and said that too was fantastic.

Lovely location that is a tea room and restaurant. I wasn’t that impressed with my pot of tea and the food that we ordered was ok. If the price was a little more reasonable, I would have rated it more. But I do understand the area it is in The garden is a lovely place to visit and on a nice day, it’s worth a visit. Staff were very welcoming and friendly.

Popped in for lunch on a cold and wet day in November while visiting the Abbey and the village. Met with a warm friendly welcome and a roaring fire.

We always go here when we are in Lacock. The Lacock lumbs are lovely if you have never had them give them a try. Good friendly service and plenty of choice of different Teas. Highly recommend this place. It is always busy when we go and i am not surprised as it is always first class service and food .

This was my second visit to this fabulous eatery - having discovered this gorgeous little gem last month with my other half, I returned with my friend, my daughter and boyfriend for lunch. Both visits were amazing. The staff are so lush with a very friendly approach and nothing too much trouble for them. The setting is incredible....we sat in the garden last month enjoying the September sunshine, but this time we sat inside at a very sunny window table. The food and cakes were out of this world again making it a total delight. Now top of my list of favourites.....very much looking forward to my next visit x

Wenn man sich den wunderschönen Ort Lacock anschaut, sollte man hier unbedingt eine Pause einlegen. Der Garten ist wunderschön angelegt und auch die Innenräume sind sehr schön. Der Service ist sehr schnell und aufmerksam. Das Essen und die Getränke waren sehr lecker.

Perfect food - breakfast just how it should be only better! Perfect garden, wonderful hosts and in a stunning village. Thanks for such a gem of an experience!

We went here on the basis of TA research. Maybe it's the best of a bad lot in Lacock, or we are the wrong generation (where still only serves coffee as a cafetière?). As others have mentioned, service is erratic at best. Sandwiches disappointing with too much butter, and made from the end of the loaf. And overpriced (although cheaper than anywhere else in the village).

We found this on a visit to the abbey and we needed to eat. The system seemed a bit chaotic as you picked up a menu and then sat at a table waiting for a waiter to come. Slow service and the food was cooked fresh so it took about 30 minutes before we got the food but the atmosphere was congenial and the food well worth the wait. Downside is we had to move from the garden because of the wasps

We visited King John’s Hunting Lodge midweek. It was not particularly busy. There were people at the tables outside but we decided to eat inside.

We really enjoyed our meal here. The food was delicious and beautifully presented and the staff were warm and helpful. The garden is absolutely gorgeous but there were quite a lot of wasps about so we moved inside.

After a disappointing visit to Chippenham (don't bother by the way), we were very pleased to find a proper tearoom, and even happier to find that (a) it was dog friendly, (b) served "proper" loose tea, and (c) served tasty cakes. Service was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our brief visit. Just watch your head on the doorways - I didn't, and have a sore head to prove it!

The place is undoubtedly beautiful, especially in the summer when you can sit outside. Was lucky enough to find a table in the early afternoon. I had the classic cream tea, with English breakfast.

We visited on a Friday lunchtime after visiting Stonehenge. Good selection of teas and cake. My girlfriend had the tea and scones for 1 which was excellent and I had the Jane Austen tea and Lemon cake which was also very nice. Lovely garden and nice staff. Would definitely return if in the area again and recommend.

We have visited many times in the past as we live locally and it is somewhere to go for a treat. Our last visit was in the winter when I t was quiet but we enjoyed our visit. Today we sat outside at an uncleared table, assuming it would be cleared and we could place our order. Alas, we sat there for 20 mins with the wasps swarming round the leftovers, the waitress we hailed said she would be back, in an annoyed tone, but never returned, it seemed as though there were only two staff. The neighbouring table were muttering about a long wait for food so we left and went to The Stables. Such a shame as the garden looked beautiful and our past experiences have always been positive.

We visited the charming town of Lacock when there was a family scavenger hunt going on, so it was very crowded. That and the sunny weather probably explain why service to outdoor tables was so slow the day we had lunch at King John's. Fortunately the food was worth waiting for - best scones I had while visiting England and an absolutely delicious salad. Everyone in our group of 4 enjoyed what they ordered and commented that everything seemed to be made from scratch.

My girlfriends and I regularly meet at King John's Hunting Lodge because it is simply the best place for a coffee, cake, lunch and afternoon tea. The tea room and outdoor space is beautiful, as are the gardens. The staff are always friendly, welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. There's a large selection of homemade cakes but our favourite is the lumb. It's a sort of three tiered sweet scone/crumpet affair with loads of butter and cinnamon - absolutely delicious. I would thoroughly recommend King John's to anyone visiting Lacock or the nearby area. You will not be disappointed.

After a brief visit to Laycock we dropped in here for afternoon tea. Warm, friendly service; lovely choice of REAL leaf teas. Cakes that we ordered were delicious and a number are perfect for those on Gluten-free diets. They’ll even do a GF version of Welsh Rarebit.

This is a nice place, especially on a sunny day when you can sit in the garden. It is very old, as is everywhere in Lacock. Unusually there is full waiter service in the garden. The menu has lots of all day breakfasts, sandwiches and full meal specials. The food is very well presented, tasty, and portion sizes are generous. It specialises in tea, and they have many varieties, made with leaves, and served in a teapot with a strainer. The staff are very friendly and efficient. It is perhaps slightly more expensive than some places but worth the extra.

Busy Fathers Day, but still a warm welcome by very friendly staff. Lovely garden seating area. Cake, scones and tea. Excellent. Obviously freshly baked and numerous cakes to choose, a difficult decision. Can’t wait to go back and try all day breakfast or to be honest anything on menu.

Lovely place, fabulous garden, but terrible coffee which is pricey, if you go don’t have their coffee.

I visited just by chance with a friend and both of us where pleasantly surprised. The service is not rushed, which quite frankly I agree, I dont want to be rushed out, its tea so to be enjoyed!

As residents of Lacock, we’ve eaten at pretty much all the pubs and cafes in the village and this one is hands down the best. The food is always excellent - we’ve never had a bad meal and we go nearly every week. The staff are always helpful and friendly and can’t do enough for you. Miguel is always friendly, and Liz is a great waitress, always going out of her way to cater to anyone’s needs, even if you have special requests or are just fussy. They are really friendly and will take time to chat even when it’s busy. The kitchen staff are all superb. Would highly recommend the bacon sandwiches and breakfasts, as well as the cream scones - always a very generous helping of cream! It’s a must visit for anyone visiting Lacock- great in winter with the open fire or in the summer with the lovely gardens. We couldn’t recommend it enough. See you soon!

Stopped here for lunch today. I had eggs benedict and my daughter had scrambled eggs on toast. Food was amazing - seriously the best food I've had for several years. Service was friendly and well paced. Surroundings fantsstic. Couldn't fault it. Not expensive either.

Sat for 20mins and didn’t even get served. Blonde lady acknowledged us and said she’d be back with her pad to take the order and 15mins later we decided to leave. Shame as it looks nice but we weren’t the only ones

My friends and I went here for lunch it was a lovely day so we sat outside in the pretty garden it was very busy we looked at the menu also their was a specials menu two of us had the eggs benedict royal and my friend had the Welsh rarebit we were told that it would be half hour wait in fact it came out after 15 minutes the plates were hot and the food was nicely presented and tasted delicious we were very happy with our lunch for the quality & service I would highly recommend eating here.there is seating inside but you have to get there early will definitely come back to visit again

Lovely garden, friendly service, the cream tea using loose tea as opposed to tea bags should have been perfect, but the cream was whipped, not clotted. It was beautifully yellow but was just not right. Two choices of jam but sadly, neither was strawberry. It was all a little bit depressing. I will return, but only for the savouries.

Castle Combe was nice but a little disappointing in that there were no shops with the exception of small café in a yard surrounded by garages. The café was okay but the location was hardly inviting. Also the coaches can not entre the village so have to park on the outskirts, leaving the visitors to walk some way and down a steep hill. Walking down is okay but climbing back up is rather difficult especially for the elderly of those with a walking problem.

Not a bad little gem we found bank holiday weekend. The food was presented to fine detail. Home made good food screams from this little gaff.

We discovered our love for lumbs and coffee here a few years ago now. We go back regularly and would go back daily if realistically possible. The welcome we receive, the service, the venue, beautiful garden in the summer and the welcoming log fire in the winter all make it an amazing experience. The staff are fantastic and the chef and ladies and gents that serve us have got to know our order and us and are always accommodating and happy to add whatever we decide on the day. If you get the chance give this jewel of a cafe a try.

Wow wow wow, la comida que teníamos el 11/5/19 era increíble. Yo tenía chicking supremo, que era tan bueno, si no mejor, que la comida de Michael. He comido. Mi esposa tenía Wiltshire Rarebit, que también era genial. Comimos afuera en una bonita mesa en la esquina en un bronceado que era perfecto. El personal era muy servicial y, de hecho, ordenó el helado con mi pastel español. I am really bias as I use to work there quite a few years ago when Margaret Vaughn was alive !! I haven't been there for quite a while but I should imagine that their standards would be the same !?

I've been here 3 times for lunch with family and friends and have always enjoyed it. Great quality food in a beautiful English garden. The service was very polite and attentive. I had the classic eggs Benedict which I have to say was the best I've ever eaten. Perfectly poached egg, homemade muffins and beautiful salted butter. I could eat it every day!

Service is appalling: 30 minutes wait for drinks: 40 minutes wait for food. Roast beef sandwich was mostly inedible. There was more fat and gristle than beef. I rarely give poor reviews but must say this is a place to avoid

I am really impressed by the selection of tea in the menu - there are different blends of black tea and green tea. The outside seating area is very nice. Service was a little slow but otherwise had an enjoyable afternoon.

Lovely ! booked a table ahead a few days before and what a find. it was cool outside and the fire was lit and very inviting ( Picture ) . Very good service , sandwiches and cakes. Pleasant surroundings and I can imagine on a summers day sitting in the garden must be fantastic - cant wait to return.

Mother’s Day visit so the place was absolutely packed. Luckily someone was just leaving an outside table. Seemed to be only one waiter taking orders for the outside tables so a little wait for service but it is fair to say he couldn’t have gone any faster, rushing around clearing tables, serving and taking orders with a very friendly manner. We had the scones, cream and Jam tea which was absolutely delicious and a generous portion. Scones were freshly baked and melted in the mouth. We will definitely bring visitors here in the future. Excellent tea room in this stunningly beautiful National Trust village.

This a lovely and very atmospheric place to have your tea. They have a fantastic selection of leaf teas and serve them in a loveliest way possible. The cakes are also very good.

We've been to a couple of restaurants in Lacock and not had a lot of success with the food we've ordered there, but after seeing the reviews for King John's we decided to give it a try (it had been my first choice for the other visits but I'd been overruled). I was vindicated in my opinion, as it turned out, because it was such a lovely little tearoom/restaurant and the food was delicious. We all went for a light lunch, the sandwiches and soups, and they were excellent. The service was lovely, and we went with our golden retriever who was really well received by all. Service was quick, and it was all very reasonably priced. We'll definitely be going back next time we're in Lacock, and I highly recommend making a visit.

Here you will find a lot more than tea and cake. Apart from a choice of teas and over a dozen tempting cakes on display there is also a savoury menu. Before our tea and cake we had one of the best Eggs Benedict we have ever enjoyed.

I went here with my extended family while on a visit to Lacock, the atmosphere is fabulous only out done by the service which was friendly and attentive, we all had different meals 7 in total and we were all in agreement it was simple but great food.

I visited today with my children, wife, parents and Grandmother. After having a bad experience at a cafe earlier we decided to eat at this lovely place. The staff were very welcoming and seated us without an issue. The menu was brilliant and the food was superb! Reasonably priced and a lovely little place, I would recommend to anyone thinking of visiting. Thank you for a good experience

Very warm and friendly. Loads of choices of teas and cakes. Gluten free and vegan cakes were great. Huge tasty portions of lemon and chocolate cake. Lovely end to our day out.

Un amigo me introdujo al té de la tarde en King John's Hunting Lodge desde hace años y desde entonces he hecho viajes de regreso. Nunca decepcionan, pero hoy realmente hicieron un esfuerzo adicional. Hoy reservé el té de la tarde para 6 personas a la hora del almuerzo para celebrar mi cumpleaños y cuando llegó la comida, el equipo cantó un feliz cumpleaños, un pastel con velas y un mensaje personal. La comida fue fabulosa como siempre, tan buena que no pude sacarme una foto antes de que se hubiera comido todo. No puedo recomendarles lo suficiente, excelente comida, una amplia selección de tés (hojas no bolsas), excelente servicio y un ambiente encantador (un hermoso jardín de campo en verano o una cabaña acogedora con fuego crepitante en los inviernos fríos de hoy en día.

Estábamos buscando un lugar para tomar el té y nos topamos con King John's Hunting Lodge. Era un hermoso día, así que nos sentamos en el jardín. We had the pleasure of having breakfast here today. The full English and we can both say the BEST we have ever had. Perfectly cooked (I had poached rather than fried with were perfectly runny). All the produce was locally sourced and so flavoursome. Also toast and marmalade and beautiful decaffeinated coffee. Service was great. Surroundings so pretty and the dog was welcome. Sorry no pictures of the breakfast but trust me worth the visit.

Couldn’t believe we hadn’t been before. Lived in this area 30+ years. It’s like a secret garden up the side alley. We both had beautifully cooked and presented meals. The tea and coffee were perfect. The toast butter and marmalade spot on. We intend making it a regular event. Thanks to all the staff.

My girlfriend and I were visiting the area and this tea rooms came recommended by a friend. I'm happy to say that we were not disappointed! Great little garden tucked away, amazing service and the selection of teas were very impressive. We started with an English breakfast tea, which was served just as strong as we make it at home. Can't stand the boring builder's tea you get in some places, I'd throw it in the bush! Along with some delicious scones and cakes it was a delightful afternoon and a well deserved 5 stars.

This is surely a beautiful spot - a lovely quintessentially English flower garden in a historic village. Menu looked good and the service was very pleasant. But my, something went awry with our tea! We ordered a pot of looseleaf breakfast tea for two. When we tried to pour it I can only describe what came out of the spout as a thick sludge of tea leaves and tea that was so strong it was almost black. We tipped half the pot away into the bushes and topped up with hot water - still undrinkable and the tea strainer filled up to the rim straightaway with leaves. We returned it to the kitchen, explained the problem and were given a replacement pot without any fuss. But this was almost as strong as the first! We managed to drink an unpleasant tannic cup and then gave up. We heard the family on the next table also talking among themselves about how the tea was far too strong so we were obviously not alone. I've been drinking tea for decades - it's my hot drink of choice - and can honestly say this was the first cuppa to have ever defeated me. Given the other positive reviews I can only assume something went wrong that particular afternoon.

Enjoyed tea here with 14 friends on a beautiful summer’s day. We had pre-booked and nothing was too much trouble. I can really recommend - there is a lovely garden and we chose to sit outside. We enjoyed delicious sandwiches, scones with cream and home made preserves as well as a selection of cakes, all served by very courteous and friendly staff. Great selection of teas too. A lovely experience. There is also a very pleasant olde worlde tea room inside.

We were in our way to Bath and wanted to stop quickly at Lacock. The weather was so nice we were looking for a simple lunch outside, and the garden is absolutely stunning. We were lucky to arrive at a moment when we could order and be served quickly. The food was simple but delicious and well presented. Our waiter was very nice and the prices are good.

Lovely garden setting with wonderful food. I didn’t expect to find anything other than pub grub in this tourist site but the wye asparagus with poached egg and hollandaise sauce was excellent as was my wife’s white crab meat on sourdough toast .Both were restaurant quality . Service was good. Highly recommended.

The flowers were bursting with blooms during our sunny June visit. The food was terrific, and wines by the glass were available with a decent selection. Our waitress got a bit overwhelmed once a large tour group arrived, but remained cheerful despite a difficult situation.

This is the perfect setting - would thoroughly recommend. Coffee and cakes are delicious. Such a treat.

This eaterie is really lovely, tucked away in beautiful Lacock. We wanted a quick brunch and got the perfect meal. My wife had forest mushrooms on toast, eggs benedict for me.

Wow ! What a wonderful place to visit.It was my birthday and all I wanted was a gluten free afternoon tea and it was amazing!. I went with my 6 1/2month old son and 2 friends with babies the same age and they were so accommodating and very friendly. We sat inside as unfortunately it was raining but if you sat outside it looked stunning with plenty of seating in the lovely garden.

We dined here as our 1st choice was closed, but was not disappointed in the slightest! Exquisite food, service and garden. Asparagus, poached egg and salmon dish highly recommended! Look forward to visiting again soon.

We came here for lunch. I ordered fish cakes, my partner had the sausages and our grandpa ordered the Welsh rarebit. All of the food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious! My fish cakes were the best I’d ever had! The food was reasonably priced and both the interior and garden were lovely. They also had a great selection of cakes and teas.

We live in Wiltshire, and are not too far away from Lacock so visit the village every now and then. The King John’s Hunting Lodge is just excellent and we always head there for lunch or tea.

Took my lovely Aunt who loves cream teas. The scones were the best she has ever had or ever made. Could not fault it. Super.

Absolutely gorgeous seating outside in the gardens. Delicious tomato and mozzarella salad, with a cup of refreshing tea. Cakes looked fabulous!!!! Warm, friendly service.

My husband and I were traveling through the Cotswold area on a random drive from Cardiff. We stopped at Castle Combe, and then decided to travel on to Lacock Abbey. The abbey was beautiful, the grounds, the manor itself and the history. We happened upon King John's Hunting Lodge, where we were thinking of having tea, but decided that we would go ahead and eat a late lunch. I had a butternut squash, goat cheese and spinach tart... Amazing!!! My husband had the lamb, which was also delicious. The service was beyond friendly and helpful. The café was so warm and inviting, I would definitely recommend and we will visit again.

The staff were friendly and efficient. The menu was interesting and the food was really delicious - beautifully presented and it tasted scrummy.

Would advise booking. Have posted current menu photo as could not find on website. Food delicious but service stretched. We were warned that the lamb would take longer, but it was worth the wait. Risotto excellent as was smoked salmon & asparagus, beautifully presented

Not the first time in here, and probably not the last. Good (if perhaps not hot enough) Earl Grey. Nice surroundings. Yummy carrot cake. Also nice lemon cake and walnut/coffee cake (not all me - son and friend ate too!).

Amazing survivor from the era of Magna Carta. There is limited parking in the town centre so you may need to walk a little way to get to the Lodge. Well worth a visit as is the Church.

Fantastic food. I have never tasted scrambled eggs on toast so good before. Atmosphere and location were tranquil and the staff are very friendly. Oh and proper tea

We stopped here for a sandwich/cake/tea/coffee while doing the rounds of Lacock village , after visiting the National Trust Abbey.

Decided to try this place because of the reviews and they are right, we both had the eggs benedict and the food was yummy. Would have given a five had the service been a bit quicker, but would still go back as we weren't in any rush.
