Took my disabled sister there for lunch…. Because we arrived an hour before they were due to close we were made to feel like we shouldn’t be there. Rude welcoming and even more so when we requested starter bits only. We were done within plenty of time and certainly not the last leave. Shame cos amazing food but no excuse for rudeness. It was obvious who regulars were as staff made a point of interacting with them on numerous occasions. We wasn’t checked in on once! Plenty of other nice places around with good food and welcoming staff whom I’d rather give my business to!

Lovely evening, great food, had smoked salmon followed by sea bass. Could not eat all the potatoes and plenty of vegetables. Good wine. Excellent service. Will visit more this year! Thank you

Excellent menu - could have chosen so many dishes and we were not disappointed with any we ordered. The food was fabulous, perfectly cooked, fresh and very tasty. Generous portions for a very reasonable price given the quality and standard of cooking. This was our first visit and will certainly be back. We had the standard menu with some choices from the specials menu. One pescatarian in our party and she was overwhelmed with the choices. We eat out regularly but haven't been anywhere quite so good for many years. Do try it!

An amazing New Years Eve the food was as usual outstanding, the staff were amazing and the whole evening was wonderful. It was as if we were at a family party we were so comfortable, we will certainly be going again on NYE 2024.

We couldn’t have asked for better service today, the Staff were very attentive and the service was Excellent. The starters were very tasty and a nice variety to choose from the roast dinner was lovely, the roast potatoes were amazing and there was plenty of meat and vegetables you were even offered more if you wanted more but the size of the dinner was plentiful for all. Lovely desserts and the Apple crumble was warm as was the custard and you could have cream or ice cream. We sat in the Conservatory which was lovely and warm. We look forward to returning in the very near future, thoroughly recommend this restaurant for a family meal, meal with friends or even a couple spending quality time together.

Have not been here for a few years, food very good, service abysmal. When we arrived we had a drink in the bar first, gin was so weak we had to have another one in the glass to taste it. Seated at our table and as they gave us the menu, asked for our drinks order. We ordered a couple of starters to share which were very nice. We then waited 45 minutes for our main course to arrive. When after 30 minutes queried how long it would be we were told that they were very busy and it would be along soon, not a problem except a table of 3 came in after us, ordered after us but had already had their meals. There was a lot of staff walking about but nobody actually doing anything and once we queried the service, nobody in authority actually appeared. Felt sorry for the waitresses as they get the flack when it is not there fault. As we were there for a birthday celebration it unfortunately spoilt the evening and it is unlikely we will visit again in a hurry.

The owners are misogynistic rude and patriarchial - interesting that the waitresses wear mini skirts. Food bland - don’t go there if you if you value politeness good food and/or women

It’s not very often that i feel a burning desire to leave a review on here but i must!! What a place and what an amazing experience it was tonight! Jack in the kitchen and the amazing George as our brilliant waiter made this visit one to remember! A rare gem of a place that you want to come back to time and time again!! Just back from having lunch here , keep driving past it for years and never went in and I must say was very nice , lamb cutlets were large and meaty, the bone in ribeye delicious, although very overcooked from what I asked for , (I didn’t mention it as eat well due to the good quality meat) the little one had the crab salad which she said was delicious, big portions as couldn’t finish all the chips . Service was friendly and prompt. Will definitely return

We hadn't been back here for a couple of years( mainly due to covid and ill health) and the reaction we got from the owners(3 brothers) was overwhelming, it was as if we hadn't been away. The meal, service and atmosphere was fantastic as per usual. The portions, flavour and value are unbeatable and we will definitely be back very soon!

My husband and I came here after a long muddy walk and we thought the food was glorious! Fabulous garlic king prawns and Dover sole. Delicious scallops and roast lamb. Baklava to die for and excellent creme brulee. Good sized portions too. The staff were friendly and the manager was a character! 😊😊😊

I started with the Octopus - which was excellent, tender and accompanied by a delicious Greek Salad with warm dressing. The main course was a Moussaka, large and very well cooked. My wife'w meal of crispy mushrooms with Hollandaise sauce, was she tole me excellent - it must have been because I didn't get to sample any, and her main course of Monkfish tail served on the bone was delicious.

What a find! My friend Norman sent me here. Said he's followed these guys for 30 years wherever they have owned. They made it all look effortless. They have obviously been doing it for years. The atmosphere when you walk in with the nice fire, the welcome, the venue is spotless, and nicely done. The service is extremely friendly, and the food is made with love. Its not got all the Michelin star pomp, but for what it is, its just as good, and without the Michelin price tag. Who wants that all the time anyway. I do believe I am about to become a regular. Just what I been looking for. Also, a lot of people will be coming here that know me locally. Us IG and CM people don't know about EN9. I almost don't want to tell people as it'll be harder to book. Went on Tuesday and was blown away by the Tuesday special menu. It was free starter and dessert with a main meal. Regardless of the value as I’ve eaten here before and the full prices are still fine, the food here is excellent and the service is fantastic.

Since it’s full refurb, the King Harold’s Head is, in our opinion the best place to eat for miles around, we visited on Sunday 23rd of April, with my daughter and her partner, from our starters to main courses and the sweet selections, the food was delicious with ample portions. The decor and ambiance are second to none, with attentive but not overbearing staff, all in all, a good experience, thank you. Dave Butler.

Because of covid KH have opened up a small well stocked deli. However the review is not on the small but excellent stocked deli but more on their take away Sunday Roasts.I can sum it up as good value for money, perfectly cooked, fairly priced and well worth visiting on a weekly basis. Our meal was lamb with all the trimmings with a few extras thrown in. Now I'm not a wine drinker but a good Merlot would really have gone down a treat with this dinner so much so that I've just ordered a crate to go with my next takeaway (not all at once).

I took a friend there for her birthday with a party of 5, 2 young children included.We arrived and found the staff very friendly until the eastern European man came over, (HE WAS THE ACTING MANAGER ON THE NIGHT AS COSTA, THE OWNER WAS AWAY) and spoilt the whole evening with his jumped up attitude.This man needs intense lessons on how to deal with customers, he has no idea how to deal with and talk to customers in England, his attitude might be acceptable in Europe, but not here, having said that, I am from southern Europe and certainly do not accept that! Went there for my wife’s birthday. First impression was good. Sat at a decent table but it was not clean but sticky and no ventilation in the area we sat in so was quite uncomfortable. The waitress was polite but not so the other staff who appeared to be Eastern European’s with very little supervision. Drinks came out mixers were small cans that were hot so not a good start. The starters were well prepared and nice but the steak which was sirloin was presented as medium and was more like rare didn’t bother complaining as the other food would have got cold. It was chips or nothing a nice size tomato three mushrooms and onion rings that were missing the onions. Seventy quid for two but not value for money in my opinion and won’t be returning. When these guys owned the steakhouse in Broxbourne food and staff were so much better and better value for money.

We came across this great find during a visit on what felt like the hottest day ever. We are not from the area and not having booked and being turned away from 2 other very popular pubs in the area, we were so grateful to be accommodated but had no idea what to expect. We were greeted and seated with out a booking and I was very impressed with the CoVID measures in place and the linen napkins. How often do you see that these days? Both the service and food was excellent. I would particularly recommend the Avocado, prawn and crab tower starter. Delicious and refreshing. The Sunday Roast looked excellent and good value too.

This Gastro-pub is a cut above the average. We ate lunch there today seated comfortably and well socially distanced on the terrace. The meal was delicious and the portions were extremely generous. I was particularly impressed by the attentive service and the comfortable Covid 19 precautions which made us feel totally safe.

The King Harolds Head pub, delivered FREE roast dinners to all the self isolating old people in Nazeing . The meal came nice & hot with a rose & a bag full of groceries . The meal was wonderful & I cannot thank the landlord of this pub enough for his wonderful gesture . I am old & live on my own & cannot have my children visit today , this kind act was amazing. An unknown Nazeing lady was involved with this kindness but whoever you are THANK YOU both it was wonderful

I have not been to this 'pub' for some years and it has changed! Warm welcome, good staff, good food and nice decoration. In my opinion a bit expensive if you eat from the main menu but you get what you pay for and even the lunchtime 'deal' menu had good portions and was very well cooked. Now very much a restaurant rather than a pub but fine with that.

Popped in this evening and for a change for a meal. We luv this place for a drink on the way home but tonight we booked in for a meal and all I can say is wow. Fresh, seasonal & great service. If u haven’t been here before, u need to. Thanks George

We've enjoyed this restaurant before but in a smaller group seated in a more personal part of the restaurant. This time we were one of several large groups and staff were showing signs of stress and quite short with their responses to polite questions about the food. It's difficult but staff need to smile, be friendly and give off an air of everything is under control ( even when the kitchen is manic) in order to relax the customers and help towards a better experience. The young lad was more helpful than other waiters and went out of his way to meet requests. The room was also very loud and it was difficult to communicate especially with the older members of our party. My steak was good, the roasts were Ok / average but not really anything special. This was probably down to the sheer volume that the kitchen was trying to cope with. We would usually have stayed for deserts and coffee but needed to escape and relax. It would be nice to receive a thank-you when you add the tip. I know 13% isn't huge but when it's on a large amount after obviously weathering quite a torrid experience I was given the impression I shouldn't have bothered. The cost was good value for the meals served and we would still re-visit but in a smaller group at a quieter more relaxed time of the day.

Been a few times now and every Sunday lunchtime visit has been of a high standard. Great food served by staff who are attentive and welcoming, making our visits very enjoyable.

The staff were polite and the food was really tasty. We waited quite a long time time for our food and ended up asking for the children’s food to come out before the adults because they were getting bored but once it turned up you could tell it was all freshly cooked and there was about 10 of us at the table. We would definitely go again but maybe not on a Sunday as it was VERY busy and this probably contributed to the long wait.

What a Christmas Day meal the King Harold’s Head provided! It was fit for a king!The menu and choices were great, the food was hot, plentiful and delicious, and desserts available to suit all tastes. If you still had room after that sumptuous Feast, a beautiful cheese board, with grapes, a selection of biscuits, celery sticks and chutney arrived on the table. Followed by Xmas mince pies, satsumas and quality street sweets. The atmosphere was warm, friendly and very Christmassy, and all around, people were enjoying themselves. The owners and staff - Jack, Cos, Mili, Georgos, Lissy, Elena, chefs provided a first class service on the day and nothing was too much trouble. King Harold’s Head, you are a credit to the village of Nazeing and the surrounding area! Thank you for a brilliant Xmas day.

Thank you for a really lovely lunch . Myself and my parents enjoyed prawn cocktail, calamari,salmon,skate and seafood linguine between us . . . not a grumble between us . Seafood linguine is the best I have ever eaten with plenty of shellfish included and a delicious sauce to go with it. The side of home made onion rings were delicious accompaniment to a fantastic value for money lunch and we will definitley return soon. Nine of us visited on a Friday night for a family birthday. Received a friendly welcome and were invited to have a drink in the bar on arrival while we looked at the extensive menus. Nice, friendly atmosphere and. staff were very attentive.

Just the 2 of us for our Anniversary meal. First time we have been to the King Harold Head. It was quiet when we first arrived at 7pm but there was a constant flow of diners arriving bringing in a pleasant atmosphere. The staff were very attentive and the food was amazing, Will definitely come back for special occasions.

Shame it was so empty at Friday lunchtime. However, really couldn’t fault the food. The lunchtime menu is a bargain. One of us had that and the other ate off the menu. Portions so large we didn’t have room for desert. Quality of food was excellent. Shame they don’t do a gluten free menu. Will definitely come again.

Expensive with extras for sides.. orders weren't taken correctly so a few wrong meals. Why doesn't he check that he has taken the right orders.

We had a table at 3:30 pm for 5 adults on a Sunday and found this to be a non crowded relaxed time before the early evening bustle began. The service was not rushed and this gave us plenty of time to review the menu and chat. Starters are quite large so if you fancy a desert you may want to share. I had a dressed crab which would easily have been enough for 2 people and I only just about managed to squeeze in half a delicious homemade cheesecake ( I didn't ask who's home). My main of Chicken Milanese was crispy, tasty and light. Excluding service we paid about £25 per person. For that all 5 had mains, only one person had a glass of alcohol with the rest having soft drinks, 2 did not have starters and there was just one pudding.

The service was good with our Sunday roast being delivered in 13 minutes. The lightly starched linen napkins were delightful and the quantity of the fare sufficient.

We visited this pub/restaurant Easter Sunday around 6pm. Hardly anyone there,

Went with girlfriends, table of 7, midweek evening, not busy, they got 2 orders wrong...

Visited with friends on a Saturday evening. Saw a sign advertising for staff and the place was far from full which should have warned us what to expect. We were shown to a table and given menus. We waited. And waited. After about 20 minutes we went to the bar and asked if we could have some drinks. Our drinks were served and another waiter came to take our order. My wife ordered Dover sole and asked for it to be taken off the bone. The waiter seemed surprised by the request. After a further wait our food arrived. In the main it was very good though some of the portions were quite small. However, the sole that my wife ordered was full of bones which she mentioned to the waiter. The plates were cleared and we waited for the dessert menu. It never arrived and after half an hour we decided to forego desserts and just have coffee and liqueurs which we again had to go to the bar to order. It should be mentioned that during this time the restaurant was almost empty, three staff were washing glasses behind the bar and chatting and another was laying up tables for the next day's lunch. Our drinks came and we asked for the bill which was the only thing to be delivered quickly. When he brought the bill the waiter asked us if we would like drinks on the house. We declined and paid the bill without any tip. As we left, the waiter told my wife that next time, he would make sure that there weren't any bones. I'm sorry but there won't be a next time.

It was a while ago now but the meal ingers in my mind as it is not often that I manage three courses. The first courses of scolllops was so good that I made my mind up to try for three, all three were excellent. It is a very pleasant venue in a very rural setting. I am not from the area any longer but do return to see family so expect to dine again.

Went here with friends. The menu was not as good as when I had been a few years ago. The service was very slow and staff not at all friendly. The food was very mediocre and nowhere near as good as it used to be and over priced. The whole place has been ruined by modernisation which has lost what the pub was renowned for- a good country pub. Will not be going again.

We took an elderly friend out for lunch. I had first telephoned the restaurant to check that it had good accessibility as our friend is not very mobile and was assured that there were no steps between the car park and the restaurant which indeed was correct and we were seated at a table near the entrance. The waitress arrived, took our drinks orders and offered us a choice of 3 menus - daily specials, set 2 course menu for £12.95 and a la carte menu. We all opted for food from the a la carte menu. Our friend requested a cheese omelette and chips with an aside of asparagus, my husband ordered the lamb chops and I had the lamb shank , both of us with new potatoes and vegetables. Whilst waiting for the meals, we were offered warm rolls and butter. We did not have to wait long for our food which was well cooked, hot and plentiful. Our friend and my husband managed to find room for a dessert, she having a large bowl of bread and butter pudding and custard and he opting for the unusual lemon and rose cheesecake and cream, both of which were made on the premises. The bill for 3 of us came to £60 and we added a tip for good service. Highly recommend.

Late Sunday lunch , excellent choice 5 star food and brilliant service. Great to see local restaurant supporting local students in part time work who give superb service- Thanks George and Erin our waitress 🙌

My colleague and I went in for lunch. The restaurant was spotless staff were extremely welcoming and the food was absolutely delicious. Would we go back ... well no, we won’t be in the area again anytime soon and the pompous twit sat at an adjoining table who insulted us twice very loudly whilst we were eating our dinner made us feel rather uncomfortable. Shame really !

Visited with friends for lunch and went for the Lamb Roast with trimmings and l really shouldn't have bothered. The price is reflective of the quality - Frozen Meat, potatoes, vegetables,yorkshire and stuffing...served drowned in gravy. Starter of homemade tomato soup was luke warm.
