King Charles in Chiltern

Disappointing. Having received a sarky reply I thought I would edit my short review, even though it summed up my experience. It was not particularly busy, despite what you say. The food was OK but you could see that we had taken advantage of an offer as there was not much of it. The steak was cooked well but it came with chips which had been thrown onto the plate with a very small mushy tomato..no garnish, no presentation. The service was adequate but there were dirty tables around us which no one bothered to clear and one couple who came in moved the dirty dishes so they could sit down! As for the atmosphere, there were dogs barking inside... So, all in all, disappointing.

Great food and hospitality, I highly recommend for anyone who want to have a fabulous family time or just chill with friends over a few pints 👌😍

We had a large party booking and had to pre order. Staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. Food was delicious and no issues with our order - which, with a big party, can often happen. Very impressed with food and service.

Firstly, I want to say the food was absolutely lovely — hats off to the chefs! That said, our experience with the front-of-house team left a lot to be desired. When we arrived, we were completely ignored. Despite us greeting one of the team members, we didn’t receive any acknowledgment and were just stared at until someone eventually came over to seat us. We also found that quite a few of the items we wanted to order were out of stock, which was disappointing. At the bar, there was only one bartender who was clearly busy. I stood waiting for 5–10 minutes while another staff member nearby sipped her water and just stared at me — no offer to help or even a polite acknowledgment. Considering it was a Saturday night and the venue wasn’t particularly busy, the lack of attentiveness and care from the team was really disheartening. We’ve visited before and had a great time, so we know the potential is there — but unfortunately, the customer service on this occasion really let the experience down. Some improvement in that area would make a big difference.

We had our wedding reception/party at the King Charles yesterday. We couldn't have had a better experience. The food was amazing and there no mistakes in any of the orders (and it was a relatively large order with people with allergies). The portions were large and none of the guests walked away hungry. The staff were so friendly and could not do enough to help. The room was decorated beautifully by the landlady who was so helpful. We were made to feel really really special. Nothing was too much. We had such a stress free, amazing, special day and the price was so reasonable! Would highly recommend for any special occasion. We could not have asked for better.

Brilliant bar team, we were served as soon as we came in with a lovely booth table. Our drinks came extremely quickly and the food was great, the steak was perfectly cooked with lovely grilled tomato and the servers were lovely and friendly. Can’t wait to come again!

Visited again yesterday and had a fabulous time again! Have never had a bad experience here and am confident that our Boxing Day booking will be phenomenal!! Edit, came back for another go. SUPERB AS ALWAYS! My family are very particular with food and there’s something for everyone. Beer garden was lovely

Had the most pleasant experience at this pub, the food was delicious, service was quick, staff were so friendly and helpful. So many options of tables and a beautiful outside space. Plenty of space for parking and overall just a great experience!!! definitely recommend!!

Came for a visit on Sunday and was served and seated quickly. Sunday roast beef was very tasty and a good portion of meat! Our waitress Kathryn was very friendly and efficient

We enjoyed a lovely mother's day lunch meal at King Charles. The food was excellent, great service and the place is decorated lovely. Really friendly staff. Some lovely vegetarian options as well and family friendly. Will certainly book again!

A warm welcome from the waitress who greeted us set the tone for the evening. We were attentively waited on. Food arrived in good time, piping hot and delicious. Liked the addition of being able to order via the app too.

Sophia provided outstanding service during my visit. She was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Her positive attitude and helpful recommendations made the experience even better. Highly recommend her, however before our server Sophia came we were sat waiting for 30 minutes to be served!!

We were royally looked after by Amy who was thoughtful and detailed in many ways to ensure our service and food was always as expected! Food great wine list even better! Service outstanding

me and husband have been looking for a new place to eat out and decided to give king Charles pub a try and we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely amazing, the service was amazing and so was the atmosphere. We were served by a lovely young lady called sophia and she was absolutely amazing, very polite very helpful and just overall lovely lady. We will definitely be back again and will be recommended the pub to all our friends and family

We had an 30th birthday event there in the afternoon. The staff in particular the manger was very helpful and kind. Everything went smoothly for we had a lot of people attended and the atmosphere was lovely. I would recommend. The buffet food was delicious all cooked well and hot and looked fabulous. Well presented! We had plants of time allocated too. The process of booking was fairly simple and smooth.

Booked a table for my friend on a Monday for her dog and myself for lunch. Wonderful welcome, efficient staff. It’s a lovely large well laid out pub with a spacious car park. Toilets are on the ground floor and are very clean. Games and dog toys are available. There is no chance of being bored. Very good wine list and great pub food. Iced water available at the bar. Bar man was super friendly.

Great Menu, Sunday roasts & other food. Staff friendly, nice decor. Clean. Younger staff need training on which condiments to offer with mains. Would recommend.

Took my family to celebrate my partners birthday. The team were very accommodating to allergy requests and the establishment overall was very well ran with speedy service, great decor and amazing food! Our waiter (sam) i think his name was was the best waiter we have ever met , always checking in to make sure everything was OK, can't wait to return!

And as a dog lover, I really appreciated the fantastic dog corner and menu—such a thoughtful touch! This was my first visit, but it definitely won’t be my last. Absolutely rubbish service, wasted 40 minutes trying to get food only to be told they had none left at 2,30 in the afternoon and then at 3,10 they then found beef , I did ask where did they find it ? Was it on the fridge the oven or on peoples plates , and that was : weeks age and still no apology

We went to celebrate my son’s 18th birthday, the day also being Valentine’s Day I was not sure what to expect as restaurants are usually busy. We received a very warm welcome and our group was seated in a private area of the restaurant. Our server Sam was excellent. He gave good suggestions on certain menu items, kept us informed of when the food would be served, checked in on us at regular intervals. Throughout the night drinks were served without any delays. The food was delicious. All in all it was an amazing experience and made my son’s birthday very special. If i could I would give them more than 5 stars.

Great visit yesterday utilised the meeting room and were welcomed with superb coffee, pastries and service. Lunch was fantastic Sea Bass was cooked to perfection and i will be trying the pizza next time the oven looks great!!

Came a couple months ago and came again today, the service has definitely picked up, Kathryn was very attentive and was checking for when we ordered and how our food was, much better than how it was before. Ordered the spicy pepperoni pizza which was especially nice would highly recommend.

Me and my friend wanted to go out for food, we chose the King Charles and had no regret. We were welcomed and served by Sophia, who provided very good service. The food was delicious and has improved massively. I will be returning due to the amazing environment, service and food.

Having booked a birthday meal for 9 people well in advance, it was extremely disappointing that 2 out of the 5 starters were unavailable and also 2 out of the 5 desserts - i.e. 40% of the Menu was missing. In addition, despite the Lazy Pig being owned by Marstons, it is unforgivable that no Marstons Pedigree is available on draught and that there was only one bottled beer available - all the rest being lagers.

Popped in for lunch. The food was lovely. Staff were great. Will definitely be returning.

Our experience has been much improved in the last 6 months. Staff are friendly, approachable and happy. Food quality and presentation are good. There was also only 1 item not available which is much better than in the past.

Nice place to visit, however I've noticed people complaining about the food on occasions.[My own experience is good with the food served .The staff are freindly and polite, however it often lacks staffing numbers so you could be left standing at the bar for a while.Lovely ambience inside and a nice garden _ pation are to relax outside.Would definately go back again.

Had a lovely lunch all staff were great and food was delicious. The only thing I would say is to add all dishes to the online ordering, we stumbled at the last as someone wanted something that wasn't on there and we ended up ordering at the bar anyway.

I had an excellent experience here! The staff is incredibly friendly, and the young lady who served us was both professional and enthusiastic. Despite visiting on a busy Sunday, the service was impressively fast. The place is clean and tidy, and the food? Absolutely delicious! The portions are massive, offering great value for money. It feels like a hidden gem in Chesham, and I’m genuinely surprised the overall rating is below four stars. For me, this place is highly recommended and worth a visit!

We came to meet up for our pre-Christmas family gathering. The welcome was so generous and warm; thank you. The food came quickly and I so appreciated the burger. It was just the right sized portion and seasoned perfectly. Now I know why my parents are regulars.
