Kilomandjaros in Hartlepool

Red stripe, cocktails and hospitality…..Ian was perfect host ….loads of bars that were busy….but this place with family was perfect

Bought products from their website, never delivered, ignored all emails and all but one message. Do not order from them, they’re ripping people off, not just me, I’m not the only one being ripped off and ignored.

Rather than heading out, we decided to order food in from here. We seen a post on FB stating that the discount was better if you rang up rather than going via Just eat , so we rang to order. We were advised that there was no difference with the discounts & told to go via just eat. So we ordered via just eat despite the earlier FB post ( which is still on their FB) I rang up after nearly 1hr 30 mins, to be advised that the food was on its way. The woman on the phone was lovey & to be fair, within 10 mins of that call we had received the order. The food was not up to par considering it’s a restaurant. We ordered two parmo’s- hot shot & jerk. Hot shot was ok but the jerk was not great. Also, we must have got 6 chips each that Lacked seasoning & flavour. We also ordered chicken wings & wished we hadn’t instantly. The skin was soggy & made for an awful texture in the mouth, needless to say they went in the bin. Considering this is a restaurant we were expecting better.

Been here before but the last couple of reviews made us feel a bit apprehensive. We were a party of five and didn't have to wait for service. Drinks order was taken almost immediately and food order not long after. The food was lovely and Service was great. Being on an eat out to help out night was a bonus but would happily have paid full price

drinks order told for ever considering 12 people with 8 cokes a bottle of wine and two pints took a good 15 minutes to arrive, cokes where in bottles (which i dont like i want it in a glass) then we waited a lot longer then we should of for them to come and take our food order, (bearing in mind there was only another 2 people in the restaurant ) it was freezing and when mentioned they did go and get a small heater which would of been ok in front of a chocolate fire guard as it didnt do any good, the food it self was good no one complained, mine was really good value but my wifes wasnt when you put the two meals together, about all service wasnt very good food was good but some wasnt value for money, if the service had been better it might have made it up. other peiple in our group commented on the rice and curry dishes said they didnt have enough space to mix the curry and rice together as they both came in a small bowl and plate no where to put them both together.

We were served by a lovely lady called Alisha she was very pleasant and couldn’t have been more helpful and nothing was a bother to her. The food was also lovely the chicken was beautiful.

Excellent food served by excellent staff. We both had the hanging kebabs for main, they were served with the best chips I have ever tasted, pitta bread and salad. The sauce was really tasty too

Wife and I went for a meal Friday evening. We have been several times before and always enjoyed it. Restaurant was fairly busy. Decided to have a bottle of rose wine which waiter promptly brought over. Poured a glass each and discovered it was warm so asked for ice bucket and was told that the ice machine wasn’t working. No offer to exchange. Waited an hour, when my chicken skewers arrived there was 4 pieces of chicken, one sliver of onion and no pepper, 8 chips and half a pita bread that looked like someone had taken a bite out of it. Spoke to waitress who apologised and said she would sort it, returning shortly with a slightly improved dish but still only 2 slivers of onion and 1 sliver of pepper! Apparently the one chef was very busy. Food what little there was tasted amazing , such a shame about the experience. That annoyed we decided not to get a dessert and just pay the bill only to discover that the card machine wasn’t working. Was told the card machine had gone down however as regulars we know the machine has been down for over 6 months they obviously just want cash! Will not be visiting any more

Amazing food, love the Kilomandjaros spicy sauce, the food portion and presentation excellent. Highly recommended, similar concept to Nando's but food much much nicer.

Wonderful and very tasty food. The staff were very friendly. This restaurant was recommended to me and it did not disappoint. I would recommend a visit.

Just waking past looking for some where to eat thought this looks ok . Went in and got seated straight away , staff were all very pleasant . Ordered a few drinks , starter & main ( mixed grill ) food and drinks were great . I'll definitely be back ..

We went for early evening meal and were very disappointed. When we got our table realised there wasn't any cutlery told the waiter who promptly brought knives and forks and plonked them in the middle of the table. We ordered two main courses lamb chops which were well over cooked and goat rice and peas which arrived on really small plates minus the peas. When I informed the waiter I was told all the rice is different Drinks were expensive a fiver for what I would call a small glass of white wine when I asked for large, Toilets weren't good toilet rolls on the floor rusty old bin and not too clean. All in all not an enjoyable early evening compared too other restaurants on the marina definitely won't be back .

Very very tasty food at a really good price. I come from Sunderland for it as it hands down beats Nando's etc (similar foods) Would have scored it a 5* if the drinks weren't a little flat

I am currently sat in McDonald's, Hartlepool marina, devouring a double Chesney and apple pie, after what can only be described as a truly disappointing meal from kilimanjaro tonight. I waited over 1 hour for the main course to be delivered to the table, an 'exotic chicken wrap' - following the description on the menu I would have expected a tiny exotic dancer to come out with my meal, however what was delivered was a shrivelled up wrap miniscule amount of chicken minus the main event.... kilimanjaro sauce. We had to ask for the sauce, and also for extra drinks, which were also flat as a fart. This was just not acceptable. Anyhow, I will have to cut this review short as my apple pie and I cream has just been delivered piping hot to the table, and I ow have to write a review for McDonald's hartlepool marina as their service towards me has been exceptional. I would also like to give a big shout out to Alexandre who went out of her way to get me a tray for my apple pie and I cream. Top contender for employee of the week👼👍👌

We called in for a meal without booking & were given a table promptly.. The staff were attentive & service was quick. However, there was no goat curry available & none of the speciality beer either, which was disappointing for a Saturday evening! I had the WacaWaca chicken which was amazing! We will definitely return so we can sample the goat curry!

Me doy cuenta en tripadvisor hay dos conjuntos de comentarios de este restaurante? No estoy seguro de por qué. Mi esposa y yo fuimos a la creación por ese nombre en la marina para el almuerzo de hoy. En una palabra, fue excelente. El servicio era rápido, la camarera muy amable y servicial.

Fuimos buscando este lugar como me gusta la comida picante y estaba muy preocupada cuando llegué allí porque la máquina estaba rota y la tarjeta restaurante estaba vacío. Inglaterra tenía sólo jugaban al fútbol y todo el mundo estaba ocupado celebrando supongo. También había un punto metálico a unos 20 metros de la entrada, así que todo estaba bien.

Nos recibió una encantadora camarera que trajo bebidas y tomó nuestra orden. Se tardaba bastante en la comida se sirve en realidad, pero este era presumible porque mi novio nos la parrillada mixta. Yo tenía pollo brochetas y fueron muy picante (para mí), pero yo realmente los disfrutamos. Precioso pan suaves y cálidos y patatas fritas crujientes también pitta con maíz en la mazorca. Mi novio realmente disfrutamos de su también.

Went with the wife while staying the night at marina, looked interesting enough but didn't have lager on tap as apparently lines had just been washed out? 7pm! Had to have bottles, didn't have curry I wanted and no card machine to pay which was apparently broken, food was mediocre but girl serving and doing everything on her own was really nice so don't want to be too harsh but unfortunately won't return, just not for us I think

Came for a meal for my 21st, staff were lovely even decorated the table and gave us a free bottle of prosecco. Food was excellent would definitely recommend to go

The food was amazing but they really need to get a card machine it's the 21st century and it's such a ball ache having a meal and then having to go and find a cash point...amazing food though...

Decided to go for tea and drinks on Sat 9th, didn't want a big fatty tea that would leave us too full, so decided on Kilomandjaros for something a bit different and we had never been before. It was quite empty at 6pm but it was still early, I did wonder if it would pick up because other places are busy early evening, but as there doesn't appear to be a happy hour, this may be the reason why perhaps. We sat down, both had beers. There wasn't a list, the drinks were hand written on the back of an order book, I'm not pretentious so this didn't bother me, but did think it was a bit odd. We questioned how long it's been open but it seems a while so I don't know why this is the case. The three girls running the place were all young and spent a lot of time in the little room off the bar area, talking between themselves. It seemed a shame that there wasn't a maturer person running the joint to give it an air of professionalism. They seemed really nice though but I feel that sadly if this place fails, one of the reasons may be that it doesn't have an experienced person overseeing it. We had Caribbean lamb ribs which were lovely and houmous which we shared. Although it came with one small cut up pitta. Two would have been nice. We both had chicken pittas which were £7.50 each. The sauce was lovely. Not too hot. We felt the portions were adequate for what we wanted, but yes I agree with others that they are a touch on the small side. It wouldn't harm to add maybe another pitta as they are very cheap? And a few more chips. It seems from the reviews that this is what people would want in order to make it spot on. I really enjoyed it and didn't leave me stuffed. It came to around £38 for 2 starters 2 mains and I think 4 beers. Not too bad. Didn't have a card machine and our bill was again, hand written out. I would go again as it's something a bit different to what others offer on the marina, just a few small touches and I would give it a 5 star. What we had was really tasty, I very much enjoyed it.

Went with friends for work as it looked interesting. The decor is very nice and the food is cheap.... They are the only good thingsThe service was slow and the food was terrible - like a cheap and not-very-good Nandos! The chicken managed to be chewy and watery while the special sauce tasted like the bits left at the bottom of beef flavoured crispsVery disappointing and would not recommend

I've heard so much about this place, I thought I should finally give it a try.I was told that it was better than nandos (how wrong they are).I ordered the chicken pitta, at £7.50, I thought this was very reasonable, that was until I saw the portions I received, the chicken was very nice, what there was of it, two small pieces in a large but nice pitta bread, it came with a very small side salad and a total of eight home made chips, this meal wouldn't have filled my seven year old son, never mind me.My son ordered a kids Parmesan, this was probably bigger than my meal.My fiancée ordered half a chicken which was about the size of a podgy budgie, if she had known it was going to be that small, she'd have definitely ordered a full one, again she got a very small side salad and eight chips.If you are considering visiting this restaurant, either order a few meals, or overload on garlic bread like I had to, the quality of food is good, but the portions are minuscule for the overall meal price of £92 for main courses for four adults and one child.

We went here for tea having no real expectations of what the food was going to be like and were pleasantly surprised by the quality. The food was enjoyable and there was a range of things to choose from. Would reccomend for people looking for somewhere a little different.

Booked table in advance7adults 2 kids 1starter 9 mains Deserts unknown Flat coke Mixed starter was cold 1main missing, one chicken dish served uncooked, all parmos were mega mega thin. The cheese was actually thicker as picture will show.Ordered 6deserts of which were coming out 1 by 1 with 2to3 min gap between each and when they did were either frozen in the middle or cold when should have been hot. Shocking standards for a place which heard so much good stuff about. Waitresses don't even have a till and under staffedAPPALLING! !

You cant go wrong at Kilamandjaro'sthe Kilamandjaro's soup is to die for nice and spicy, just like their own brand of sauce, The Wakka Wakka is char grilled also has their sauce over it to, delicious.

We stopped by Kilimanjaro's by chance on a holiday to Hartlepool, to be honest there wasn't a nice smell as you enter but don't let it put you off. The food was amazing and we would definitely go back! The staff were very nice, polite and friendly.

What a little jem, just been taken over, doing some great deals, was half price on all starters, other deals on mains to. Food was delicious, I had chicken skewers, were great, will definitely be going back, in a great location to.

Found this place by accident but will definitely be returning. Lovely food, great atmosphere, fab decor and really well priced We had the chicken skewer and the mixed grill both were well flavored and very well presented, the meat was perfectly cooked and we will definitely be coming back

Went here on Saturday with friends. Place was empty and after eating here I understand why. The service was lacking . Food was served cold and had to send back twice. Parmesan looked under cooked. The music was loud and couldnt hear my friends chatting. Shame but will not be returning

Went here over a year ago, food was pretty average. New management /owners have came in so we gave it another try, had lamb ribs then waka waka chicken, everything was delicious, the kilimanjaro sauce had me looking for the recipe or a bottle to take home, really tasty. Will definitely try again.

Stopped in with business associates because it looked to be something different. Appears to have been part of a chain, but the owner indicated that they were independent now. The meal was very good. An interesting combination of African and Jamaican seasoning. I had chicken with rice and it was great. Not very busy, but hopefully this review will help. . My portion of the meal was about 14 GBP with only a soft drink. Owner came out and talked with us and was great.

Went in here on Saturday place was nearly empty. We were made very welcome. Ordered food and drinks. New guy in there explained new management in. Food all round was stunning and very reasonably priced. His home made sauce was delicious. Agree with the previous comments last time I was in here but give it another go you will not be dissapointed. The menu is small but if you watch Ramsay he says you dont need a big menu if you do a small menu good. Will definitely be going back here as the background music was also excellent.

Just visited tonight Wednesday 3rd December, only people in the place, we ordered starter which was nice tasting, but came within 5 minutes and was Luke warm, so guessing this was pre cooked, no way could you cook and serve this food in 5 minutes with the food being warm, the mains tasted nice which was the place saving grace, hot shot parmo and Kilimanjaro chicken nice, no desserts available as delivery had not been. What a shame after high expectations with Middlesbrough restaurant, place was cold, toilets weird(hand washing facility actually attatched to toilet, had to step around toilet to wash hand) God knows how this place will stay up, service was ok but inexperienced, does anyone care????

We booked for 8 people and when we arrived we were the only ones in the place. they didn't have the drinks we wanted..so good start. The 2 girls serving were very inexperienced and had no crack at all with any of us. The food was Ok but nothing special and the portion sizes were very small especially for a grown man. They only had 2 desserts which wasn't good at all. The whole place was freezing cold and had no atmosphere what so ever. We would have stayed longer but we paid up and left. Sorry girls we didn't leave much of a tip but you didn't deserve it....!!!!

Booked a month in advance for a table of 16 so was surprised that we waited over an hour for food, 3 of the plates had to go back cold and 3 of us still waiting on food whilst everyone else had almost finished. Full parmesan was the same Size as the half and when i approached the waiter with regards to this was simply told that was the size and he could not explain why my friend sat opposite had the half parmesan which was the same Size as my full. Two of our party ordered waka waka chicken which was like a child's portion ,i have been to middlesbrough kiIimandjaros previously which was double the size. Left a comment on their Facebook page with regards to the portions which was promptly deleted with no explanation and i was removed from the page and blocked. Not the best way to run a business, most certainly will not visit again

I visited the hartlepool kilomandjaros as I have eaten in the stockton venue and the previously owned venue in Middlesbrough. The original kilomanjaros was run and owned by Apollo, who presently runs the Stockton branch. Apollo is a very attentive owner/manager he always ensures customers are happy. However, the Hartlepool branch failed to wow us with there interpretation of the dishes renowned caribbean dishes. The staff where surly and did not respond to complaints or questions asked about menu. They had run out of full chickens by 7.30pm. The parmo lacked the main ingredient of a bechamel sauce and for a full parmo it was small, the wako wako chicken was the half the size we are used to having. We asked for the sauce made famous by apollo only to be told the don't provide as a matter of course, we eventually received the sauce to find out later we were charged for it. We asked for the manager to be told he was out, which we felt was inappropriate especially as the restaurant is only new. The waiting staff were inexperienced and did not provide any customer care and they had no one to get advice from. The drinks list had no prices on it. On the plus side the half of chicken was good and the skewers were very nicely presented. I left my details and the manager/owner contacted me, I was left puzzled at his explanation that the manager we saw in the restaurant had left to locate more chicken's and sauce, at 8.00pm at night and that he left after we were complaining, totally unprofessional. Overall we will not visit Hartlepool again and will go were the customer service is more positive ie Stockton, which is a shame as we were excited that Hartlepool has a Kilomandjaro's
