KFC in Gateshead

I wish I had read the other reviews before having my meal Poor is an understatement. KFC is usually fresh, not overdone and a variety of chicken pieces. Had the bargain bucket for one. Always get a drumstick but on this occasion that’s all you got. Drumsticks!!!! Thought of complaining but looking at them I don’t think it would sink in. Boooooo!

Compelled to write a review based on two visits over the space of two weeks. Once using the drive-through. My overriding opinion is, as a society, we’ve lost our way somewhat in terms of customer service, training, and a sense of pride and responsibility in one’s work. Cumulatively, we now have these establishments staffed by young people who present as wanting to be anywhere else apart from at work. You don’t routinely get a welcome, a please or a thank you. Where tepid food is carelessly (and contemptuously) thrown into cartons and bags. Where simple orders are not accurately fulfilled and where lethargy, intellectual inertia and a race to the bottom is prevalent. I despair. I’m generalising but that’s my experience. And it’s not unique to this bracket of KFC. It’s endemic in all the so called fast food chains.

We were stay at the travelodge next door on our way home we decided to pick up a kfc to eat in the car on out journey 30mins into our journey we pulled up to yuck into our food firstly our order was wrong1 full chicken burger MISSING . Safe to say I just had chips lol my daughter wrap had lettuce when we asked for a plain one and the lettuce was very brown l paid extra for garlic sauces they weren't in the bag and got 3 sprites instead of cola I was obv no where near the kfc to return or collect the missing item what a waste . Pulled Into the first McDonald's we came across avoid this place unless u have money to waste

Chips are always cold, so no surprise there. But the chicken (big bucket) is just cheap, awful, barely recognisable cuts used now. My husband was picking through bits of spine, for crying out loud!! I only ate one piece from the bucket and couldn't face any more. Not even one drumstick in the bucket, and most pieces barely had any chicken in them. Cost 18 quid, expect better for that price. Declined a lot in recent years Will never, ever go back

Been going for years and they quite often miss items out of a family order. Never, ever hot enough apart from the one time I asked for everything cooked fresh and they did it, but too much hassle to do normally. The KFC off Wessington Way is the best around here.

Food is poor quality and often cold, like its been sat under hot lamps for a while. McDonalds is much cheaper too

People standing waiting and there is only 1 til open at peak time. Only 1 car at drive through and four staff front of house putting food in bags. Supposed to be fast food.......

This has to be the worst KFC ever! Dirty tables on arrival during a quiet time, clueless staff, no beans, no Krushem drinks and the worst bit, no straws! I had to ask for a straw and was told "oh we have none" no apology! Terrible customer service. Food when we got it was terrible, as if it had stood for a while before they boxed it. Will not be returning

Bought a bucket meal disgraceful for money took mick with chips beans lid not on all over bag chips possibly feed 2 not 4!

The queue at the drive thru was quite long, but then the chippies in the area close at 2pm and this was half past. We gave our order at the help point, drove forward as normal. The car in front paid with his card, got a drink or something in a beaker, then spoke to attendant. Said attendant must have stuck her head out of that window at least 10 times. She took pay for something else and eventually passed him large bag of KFC. Now. I appreciate good service, and Im guessing his first order was the one he asked for at the help point, and which he paid for first, then wanted something else, and instead of going thru the system again, the attendant decided to help by upgrading his order. This meant that our order was just warm when we got it (or that that KFC serves warm food), and our hotel was only 200 yards away so it shouldnt have cooled that much. Also, the taste fell way below KFC normal standards. I know that KFCs are usually franchises and are expected to use The Colonels Recipe coating, but I wonder if it was watered (or floured) down. I threw my chips away Sorry, we are usually KFC fans, but not this one. wont use it again

went today smallest portion i have ever had at a KFC when i went to open the bag i thought they had missed something in it, went in and there must have been 8 staff behind the counter and stood for 5 mins before someone decided to serve me it must have been that clear screen they could not see through it, non of the just eat drivers had facemasks on

‘I’ll just be a second’ Drive through - Waited at the microphone to hear the cashier on the mic say ‘I’ll just be a second’. Waited over 7mins while a queue started developing behind us and it just got awkward. Shouted back ‘hello?’ With no reply. Get round to the pick up window to see the member of staff, with headset on. Got to the window and explained the situation and asked if we could order now and was told ‘oh yeh... I can’t take your order now... You’ll have to come inside or go back round’. Needless to say we left. Note to management. You have staff at a fast food chain that are not fast and appear to have no concept of time. If someone said I’ll just be ‘well over 5 mins’ or even responded when prompted we would have no issues. However it’s clear you have incompetence in your ranks and the likes who can’t manage customer expectations. Companies are letting many staff go so I’m sure that jobs will be hard to come by... You’ve got some wasted wages on. Trim the fat. Date of service failure 3rd Jan. You can work out who was on rota. Went to McDonald’s instead. Served quickly.... shock.

Went at 4pm must have got lunchtime leftovers. Chicken hard, chips cold. Poor at best. The server was abrupt if not quite rude. Won’t rush back here again.

Good enough chicken, as with all KFCs, but chips were unpallatable. That said, the drive through was efficient and the place is quite centrally placed.

because its so buisy especially at weekends food is always freshly cooked and piping hot staff trying to find time to clean up is the only negative i could find toilets were nice and clean

The last time we visited we chose to eat in which resulted in me sliding the length of the shop floor on my knees. Maybe the staff thought I was in a rush to taste the colonels finest but certainly no one seemed in a rush to see how I was. On reflection we should have made more of a fuss but to be honest I was just too embarrassed and we were very British and left without complaint. Today after Christmas shopping and nearing starvation we opted for KFC again, this time to avoid broken limbs we chose the drive through. The first thing I noticed was the liberal scattering of chicken on the floor behind the counter, everyone seemed oblivious to this and sidestepped it effectively for a good 5 minutes. The food itself was what you'd expect, in fact I'd say it was hot and therefore fresh...do you sense a 'but' coming? You'd be right, by some quirk of fate the lid fell off my soft drink half way through drinking it and there I discovered a great slither of mould!!!! Perhaps they've taken to providing penicillin as a preventative measure. One thing's for sure I'll not be risking my health on a third occasion. Don't risk it.

Had a meal on friday,place was not busy so got served quick staff polite when taking the order,meal was good

Hi i visited your restaurant, tonight. I got mighty buckets for one, for myself and my stepson. I found the chicken to be very rubbery, very tough to eat, not very pleasant. My step son did enjoy his, but as he pours almost a full bottle of ketchup on his food, i doubt he could even taste the chicken. actually i couldn't taste the chicken, for a moment i thought i might have mistakenly stuck a shoe in my mouth, due to the rubber texture and lack of taste. Maybe kfc has always been terrible , and i never realised how bad it was untill i have experienced better cuisine from more upmarket venues, like the soup kitchens, yes the place where homeless people and spice heads get free scran.My step son is still telling me he enjoyed his mighty bucket, but he also eats worms and soil, joking he doesnt really, but i might, couldn't be any worse than kfc.The only time i want a rubber bird is when I am in the bath

Food was ok but restaurant was a bit scruffy and toilets smelled disgusting, needed a good clean and loo roll replacing

Visited here tonight at 10.40pm was told by the staff they have no chicken I said a KFC with no chicken i received no reply , I think the branch needs to sort its stock level control out will not be visiting again

Driving home from the childcare center earlier today for a Muckle stinker poo and Zinger Tower.. all was good till I opened up the toilet door and seen a big phat poop on the floor had to walk around it to use the toilet... was foul! anyways after I had done I went to order that zinger tower that had been on my mind all morning the girl at the till was not very inviting which was a shame as she was thicc but none the less I received my food headed back to my car, sat down, unraveled my Zinger tower ready to dig in and devour the little belta..... I took my first bite and was blown away to find a curly brown hair in my mouth! it ruined my entire day! Long story Short please wear some sort of protection to prevent hair in the food, Thankyou.

Busy Saturday evening but organised well and pretty quick service. No mistakes made. All well cooked and tasty. Restaurant area was clean and all tables cleared of rubbish.

My friend and I were absolutely appalled by the service we received from here. We arrived to a restaurant that had mainly unwiped tables so a general standard to the lack of hygiene was set. After waiting for the server to finish texting her friend and telling her colleagues of their conversation, I ordered a large box meal. Halfway through processing my order, a more senior member of staff came over, cancelled everything off the till and changed what the original member had put. I thought nothing of it and had faith that I’d get what I’d ordered. I paid and waited. I was then asked if I’d change to a zinger burger and, in the aid of speed I said that wasn’t a problem. However, a large box meal was not what I received. I was presented with a regular zinger meal. Upon learning that wasn’t my order at all, I was met with attitude filled staff who made me a large drink and practically threw some extra chips on my tray. I thought that would be the end of it. Wrong. I sat down to eat and as I did I then heard the staff behind the counter not only mocking my order but actually having the audacity to mock myself for speaking out about their misdoing. Absolutely gobsmacked by the dismal service, behaviour and all around atmosphere the staff created for me tonight. Also, they had no cherry Pepsi, something that KFC prides themselves on being able to offer. Disgusting.

Popped into here on way back to hotel for some ice cream,place was not to busy and was served quick staff friendly and the place looked clean and tidy.

Was here Saturday while shopping and it was ok but kfc gone a bit downhill I think had a chicken and rice box but didn’t taste the same as usual

Absolutely terrible waited ages no staff talked or explained what was going on waste of time and money do not ever go for a quick takeaway as this will never happen kfc u r a disgrace to a quick takeaway

Stayed at The Holiday Inn and after a long Sunday sight seeing my daughter decided that on our last night she wanted KFC just across the road from the hotel. It was not very busy yet we had up wait for her pop corn chicken she got cooki crumble instead of Oreo but she was content however the door would not shut wide open and it was freezing cold. When I asked about the door the assistant said we have been having trouble would have been nice to know before ordering because eating our meal freezing was a very not enjoyable!!! When I enquirer again I just got it’s boiling behind the counter !!! Umm well lucky you !!

Called here for my lunch today while on a shopping trip I don’t know how it’s still open the staff are ignorant and I ordered a chicken and rice box which wasn’t fresh and was told there were no forks how on earth was I meant to eat it

Might be a good idea to inform your staff that shouting and swearing at each other while the drive thru windows are open will not get you good custom ! I had my 3 kids in the car the staff saw the disgust on my face and no apologies whatsoever !

After reading so many negative reviews it almost put me off even visiting here. I am so glad that it didn't deter me. Clean restaurant, helpful staff who was apologetic about the sides that weren't available and fantastic food as always from KFC!

Half of food missing and drinks, snotty guy behind counter grunted that they have run out of all sides and extras for burgers and drinks are off, avoid this kfc at all costs.

Order from here when staying in the hotel next door, the staff are always very friendly and helpful and the restaurant looks clean and tidy. I always order food to take away and my order has always been correct and even by the time I get back to my room the food is still piping hot. Will certainly be back again.

We live about 3 miles from this kfc so pop along for a take out when we fancy. Mostly they get stuff wrong and give you something you most definitely didn’t ask for. The most insulting part of it is when you order the boneless box.. you’re meant to get 3 sizeable breast portions. Today we got 3 chicken nuggets. What a disgrace. Husband having to go back along for the second time to get new ones! Certainly not worth the 6 per box! Worst of all is you try to call them and the phone just rings and rings: they couldn’t give a crap!

Avoid!! I used this KFC as I was staying in one of the adjacent hotels. The staff were surly, disinterested and bordering on the unpleasant. The order took ages, despite being fairly straightforward. Watching the staff prepare the meals I couldn't believe how slow and disorganised they could be despite it not being that busy. The hot drinks machine wasn't working. The food was lukewarm by the time I got it. The table I used had just been "cleaned" but was still dirty. Most other tables Had food waste and wrappers on them. My order was correct, although other customers before me had to come back to the counter due to mistakes with theirs. To top it off, smoke was being blown in to my table from the server who was right outside the door smoking.

Pisos desaliñada y mesas. Pisos desordenados. Contenedores llenos. Sólo parece y parece sucia.

What a nasty kfc, rude disinterested staff, long wait for standard order, worn out furnishings, dirty loo. Better off going across to franky and bennys. Didnt have the special offer advertised in tv either, which is the only reason we stopped there instead of mcdonalds.

I am at a loss as to why it is so hard to get a order correct

Terrible service. Bog standard welcome. Food took ages. No apology given for long wait. When I asked why the wait was so long, an excuse was given with no apology again. The young girl serving me had no communication skills. Poor food, Poor service from people with no skills. Shocking. Had no fast food for a long time. Won't be again for another long time especially this place. KFC......shame on you!!!!

Called into KFC nr the metrocentre tonight for a quick bite as we thought it was "fast food" how wrong we were went in at 7.40pm finally got our food at 8pm one person taking orders so there was a queue a mile long as it looked like only 2 people putting orders up the drive through was also open and that was queuing round the block as well. Food was as expected, though the chips were cold, but will not be going back if we're in a hurry !!!!!

I'm disgusted at how wrong they got the order. I ordered a chicken burger which comes with some chicken wings. 1. I didn't get the chicken wingsAnd 2. Instead of a chicken breast inside the burger there's a hash brown!! Also the chips were disgustingly cold, I don't mind this normally but I'm so annoyed at what they have given me!!!

Well KFC is KFC, but this place is something else, I am always dubious of using the drive thru, as they mess orders up for a hobby .The last few visits have been pretty much the same, it's madness out the back. the floors are slippy, the bins overflowing, there is no staff on floor duty in the eating area (they occasionally come out the back from kitchens).I ordered a snack box which took a fair few minutes to come, but I didn't mind (no heads up there would be a wait). My friend ordered a veggie option it took OVER 20 mins to arrive, they towards the end of his wait piped up 'it'll be another 4 minutes' - that's helpful... The staff were constantly running into the carpark delivering orders for the drive thru, literally all over the car park desperately looking for the right car.This branch is a joke and if the regional inspector came along for a CHAMPS review i bet they would almost certainly not get the required 85/100. as it goes on cleanliness accuracy and speed of order amongst other things, all of which seem to be an effort for this place. It really does need to sort itself out.

Staff vary - some are friendly. Food was served promptly. Requested no legs and were informed this was no problem, however the side was a leg. Burgers okay and chips. Corn on the cob not as good as previously in other KFCs. Therefore average rating overall.

Stopped over at the nearby Premier Inn for a night and decided we would have a KFC.Took a while to get served and then when the order came (which was quick) it didn't have half what I'd asked for.Like a previous reviewer said perhaps it is the lack of English staff in there.....

Took my kids here for a bargain bucket, had to sit and wait until it was produced 15 minutes later. As we sat and waited, watched a member of staff clean the floors with a mop and bucket. So far so good. Until she then started to wash down the tables with the same mop she'd just done the floor with. Nearly retched. Bucket was delivered, discovered that several of the chicken pieces were little more than wing-sized, another was effectively deep-fried chicken ribs with zero meat on it. Took it back, demanded a replacement. Looked at like I was a Martian. Most staff seemed to be non-British and were either unintelligible or lacking a basic grasp of English. Will not be back. Ever.

Ordered a 10 piece family feast as a take out, got 7 small wings and 3 drumsticks with 2 x sides of watery gloopy gravy which lacked flavour. Felt very short changed as no larger pieces in there. Whole family were disappointed and still hungry.

No hand tissues only salt in display was mc d salt.Chicken wings pink only wanted them replaced.management only offend £2 pounds refund implied I was lying and was talking rubbish then reffused refund eventually got money back after kick off DON'T EAT HERE.Floor tables and seats were dirty also.Young girl that I spoke to first was very nice.Wanted to add photo but couldn't get chicken back.

We visited kfc tonight. It was awful. Just awful. The staff appear to be rushed off their feet. The place is dirty, with tables not cleared. The saving grace was that when I mentioned my hot chocolate was cold, I got another one straight away.

Just returned home after visiting this establishment. Kfc is normally my favorite fast food outlet but not tonight. One table only was occupied but we had to bypass 10 dirty tables before we found a clean one. Ordered straight away 2 mighty 4 one mls(Five pieces of mushy chicken and cold chips) do those meals come with sides? Stated on receipt 2 tomato ketchup dips didn't get any dips. Did we complain? What would have been the point !!!! 2 (sorry. But gormless looking geeks behind the counter who couldn't even be bothered to look at you when ordering ) the whole time we were sat at table (About 10 minutes) there was a cleaning in progress sign on the floor surrounded by rubbish, did not spy anyone cleaning. Although plenty of staff standing around doing nothing. We could not get out the place quick enough it was absolutely filthy., tables floor and mens toilets all filthy. Food quality not acceptable well par would we eat here again? NO DEFINITELY NEVER EVER AGAIN Think a food hygiene visit is well overdue

Visited this drive thru with a friend on Sunday night about 8pm. We had been to metrocentre for our tea and were collecting a KFC meal to take home to my husband. On approaching the first speaker the service was fine from a young guy. The next window however wasn't so good, he told us the price without a please.... We paid by card and were handed the food with no please, thank you or anything. He then turned his back on us before we had even pulled away. Disgusting service. My husband enjoyed a fully loaded meal apart from his chicken piece he described as being like jelly... I'm guessing there was more grissle than meat. Wouldn't ever go back, sorry.

Got a large family bucket (£17) and couldn't manage even half of it! All 3 of us (2 adults and 1 child) enjoyed our tea here. Staff very friendly, although it could of done with a good clean.

I called into the restaurant late one Friday evening At around 8pm. We were told to sit in a certain area as staff were cleaning which was fine however this area was unclean. The staff member who served us was very chatty and friendly however all of the staff were very young. There were no small paper plates which meant we had to eat off napkins which wasn't the best especially when sharing a meal with kids. Not the best visit to the place. Usually good value and nice for a family. Not so on this occasion.

Always go to this KFC when staying in the Travelodge next door, excellent food with excellent service. WELL DONE

But not in a good way, dirty, surly staff and luke warm food, not a restaurant that KFC should be proud of. I stay at the Holiday Inn Express over the road occasionally and have always used this KFC for ease, I don't know if it has changed hands or what but it has definitely gone down hill fast.

I've never had a problem at this KFC. Went there earlier to get a Mighty Bucket For One with fries and corn on the cob instead of a drink. Everything was hot and juicy. Just the way a KFC should be. Staff were happy and helpful. Used my 20% discount (from filling out a survey from a previous receipt). FYI, this is the KFC next to the TGI Fridays, Frankie and Bennys and Travelodge.

Used the drivein and portion size leaves a lot to be desired. No chips in my meal deal when i got home thats the second time in 4 weeks. I love KFC but portions are getting worse.

4 of us, 2 adults 2 children, visited this restaurant all seeming well and exactly what you would expect from a fast food place until.... As we stood chatting I happened to look through to the kitchen area, shocked, I saw a man on the chip frying station scooping all of the "already fried" chips back into the fryer obviously re-heating them! I asked to speak to the manager, as I wondered how much food was actually being re-heated, only to find that it was the manager Ali (or so he said his name was, tall asian coloured can't miss him) who was re-frying everything. After I questioned him he became very abusive. Be aware when buying food from here that you watch what they are serving as it may just be reheated!
