Kerala Hut in Northampton

I tried beef biriyani and mutton biriyani but sorry to say this both are not good enough. I think they are cooking the rice and meat separately because both the rice tastes the same. Usually you get a good smell when you open the biriyani box but i didn't get any smell from these biriyani. The meat gravy tasted like onion gravy (too sweet). Overall disappointed 😔

Went with family. Amazing experience . The food and chai was very tasty. Ordered Pothi biryani Kudukachi biryani Pothichoru Beef Dry Fry Pal paratha Ghee rice Kerala Chaya Mango Juice. Must say the quantity was exceptional. Total worth for the money. The flavours were good. The 2 Girls who served us were sweet and pleasant. They were pretty helpful as well. Great job management in keeping the standard. Definitely recommended.

We always enjoy dining at this restaurant—food has always been delicious and satisfying when we eat there. But yesterday, we ordered food, and it was disappointing. The biriyani didn’t taste good, and the eraichi chooru felt like just rice, beef, capsicum, and some masalas—nothing special. It seems like the quality drops when food is ordered for takeaway or delivery. Hope it improves, as we really like this place otherwise.

order number 49, I had ordered one chicken biryani, Chicken 65, chicken kiri Parotta, And chickenchatti Chor. I ordered very clearly that all the items are chicken, but instead I got beef, so I called the Restaurant to raise a complaint and have sent them pictures. A staff gave me his personal number to send all the pictures, and I have done that, even after that, they are unable to respond for it, and I called the restaurant again and a lady who took my order received my call and she's having a discussion with Her colleague ' When he asked her that it is beef instead of chicken, she just told him ask them to keep aside beef and eat chicken and it was in their native language. That's what I called hear ' It's very disappointing to see such a staff working with lack of knowledge, and she hung up a call when I asked her about the Order. I am attaching pictures to clarify this, and I would request the owner to look through this and and have a staff that can address to a problem and it is very disappointing to hear that she is telling her colleague to tell us to eat chicken and keep aside the beef. And it's not my first time I'm coming to this restaurant. We always had a good experience, but to see such a disappointing staff handling a bad service in a bad way is much disappointing that doesn't suits for Restaurant.

## Disappointing Experience at Kerala Hut I'm extremely disappointed with my recent visit to Kerala Hut. I ordered their Chicken Chatti Choor and Chicken Kizhi Porotta, but what I got was a shocking surprise. The Chicken Chatti Choor didn't contain chicken at all. To make matters worse, the Chicken Kizhi Porotta did have chicken, but the gravy was beef-based, and I even found pieces of beef in it. This is unacceptable, especially considering the dish was explicitly labeled as "chicken." As someone who was looking forward to trying authentic Kerala cuisine, this was a major letdown. The lack of attention to detail and quality control is unacceptable. I hope the management takes steps to rectify this issue and ensures that their dishes match their descriptions. Until then, I'd advise others to be cautious when ordering from Kerala Hut. ## Rating: 1/5 stars. Just to inform they are using beef gravy for chicken items! And I got a call from Restaurant owner about the concern and I accept the apology and the brief explanation of what really happened and thank you so much for responding which I thought would never happen. I had a pothi biriyani from kerala hut and I really enjoyed it. It was so good.

Perfect place for your craving on authentic traditional flavours of Kerala. Every dish felt as true traditional taste of homely food. Prices are very reasonable for the quality, quantity and authenticity of the food.

Had lunch here and spent around £70 for 2 people.We also requested 3 spoons of rice and a little curd for our baby, but were surprised to see they charged us £4 for that small quantity of rice. Considering you can buy 10kg of rice for £12.99 in the UK, the price felt quite unreasonable. We ordered Botti Fry, but it was extremely spicy — way beyond what we expected. When we complained, they simply responded that “Botti is always that spicy,” which wasn’t very helpful. Another disappointing moment was when we asked for the Wi-Fi password. The staff member told us it was written on the other side of a paper but said she couldn’t turn it around to show us, which was quite odd and unprofessional. Overall, the experience was disappointing due to the pricing, the lack of consideration for our complaint, and the poor customer service. Definitely not a place we’d rush back to.

I have visited this place quite a few times, food was okay. Yesterday, me and my friend had paal porotta, beef dry fry and porotta. Food wasn't very good/ appetizing on top of that both of us had loose stools few times since we had the food. We are still nauseous and not very well.

Experience was not good. Ordered 2 fry fish pomfret. It was burned and actually it tasted like charred skin for £26🥲 also order their special keralite chicken with parantha but the chicken was dry and the meat was moat bone so it was so unfulfilling. Didn’t have much option for drinks and the service was super slow;got a maaza so called mango drink after finishing out so called food. Money was wasted.

At the time of writing this review they were operating in the space next door called “Merlin Thandoor”. The food was very good and the service was excellent. Everything we tried was very delicious except the Mandi. There is a lot of space inside. Kerala dishes are on point.

Presentation and taste is good, had a Diarrhoea, for me and my friends.

I have been here very frequently now. The food is authentic and not authentic like other places where they say Indian but serve mostly Bangladeshi food but genuine keralian food. The taste is awesome and quality of food is also good. Vegetarian options are good. Ghee roast dosa is a must try. However the service can be a bit faster.

We recently traveled two hours to visit this restaurant, hoping to enjoy authentic Kerala dishes. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The prawns biryani we ordered did not taste like a traditional Kerala prawns biryani; the rice was excessively watery, and it could hardly be called a biryani. We also ordered the seafood chatti chor, but the seafood did not seem fresh. Additionally, it took over 45 minutes to serve just these two dishes. Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience. I would not suggest this restaurant.

We recently visited and ordered the Santa Sadya. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. The food was served cold, almost as if it had just come out of the freezer. When we raised the issue with the server, her response was dismissive and rude. She mentioned that the food was cooked in the morning and left outside, so it would "definitely" be cold. What was even more surprising was the complete lack of effort to address the issue. Instead of offering to warm up the food or make things right, the staff seemed indifferent. This lack of basic courtesy and customer service is unacceptable. I hope they take this feedback seriously and work on improving both the quality of their food and the professionalism of their staff.

Went to explore this restaurant and loved it...I need to visit again for more dishes. This time we had Podhi choor, chicken lollipop, chicken dum biryani, masala dosa along with their amazing falooda. Didn't like masala dosa as it was not very crispy, but loved other dishes. Would recommend this place to all who want to try Kerala food.

We ordered the Masala Dosha and ghee roast, and while they were flavorful, the sambar was unfortunately cold. It was not ok, as the rest of the dish was well-prepared. I had a worst experience. Food was below average and service was too bad. I waited around 2 hours for food. We were three and we ordered Alfham mandi , Chatti choru and Pal porotta. Food was below average and they served mayonnaise only after we finished the mandi. We ordered takeaway also but one of the items in the takeaway was missing. It was a very bad experience and I will never ever recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Thoroughly enjoyed the traditional Kerala food. Starting from classical toddy drinks to beef and kakka and fish. The ambience is awesome with nice decorations, suitable for friends and families.

First time been to this Kerala Hut. First of all, the food was great and taste was good compare to other kerala restaurants. We were on the way to Birmingham from Norfolks. We stopped at this restaurant. The reason I gave 1 star for the service is that, very poor customer service. Poor and unacceptable customer service😡, cant accpet when you dont greet the customer. When we (4 adults and 3 kids) walked in, none of the staff didn't greets us and not even bothered to ask how many you are? When there was a empty table with 6 chairs (previous customers plates were on the table) and I had to tell the staff could you please clear the table for us so that we can sit together. The cleanliness was poor. We had to wait longer for the food🤔. The customers came after us got the food even before us. My kids were ordered 2 Ghee roast (taste is really good), came so late after our food (adults). I understand that there is lots of food deliveries coming in and out. But customer coming into the restaurant is more important. You have to treat with respect. When we ordered the coffee while we had the main course. When I asked the staff, they keep saying "its coming now", came after 30 mins when we finished the course. I was so close walking off the restaurant due to the poor customer service. One staff should focus on the online deliveries and other staffs has to manage the restaurant customers. Poor customer service, people won't come back. I love my food especially kerala food. But i won't and never give any compromise on the customer service. To the Kerala Hut Owners, you have to improve the customer service amd cleanliness. otherwise you will loose customers quick. This restaurant had the worst customer service I ever had in the uk so far. I have worked in fast food chain, and I know the stress and pressure. Very simple, clean as you go once the customer is gone and the table has to ready for the next customer. But this service is below par. I had to give the credit to chef, food was amazing. Food was lovely, the restaurant is very authentic with many Indian diners which proves it must be good! Unfortunately the service was poor - weren’t offered any drinks only a small bottle of water already on table with no glasses, and no opportunity to take leftovers home, but I think this may be due to a big group taking their attention

I just took a chicken biryani take out from Kerala hut and the chicken taste odd. I came all the way from Bedford for this and this is what I got....totally disappointed

We started with beef deep fry, which was perfectly spiced and crispy on the outside while remaining tender and juicy inside. For the main course, we opted for the kanthari kappa, kudukkachi biriyani, alfam chicken mandhi. The kudukkachi biriyani was aromatic and flavourful, with the right balance of spices that made every bite a joy. I visited this restaurant expecting something special, but it was just average Kerala cuisine—nothing remarkable, but not terrible either. One of the biggest challenges was the parking, which was extremely difficult to find, making it inconvenient if you're driving.I opted for takeaway, and while I was told it would be ready in 20 minutes, I ended up waiting for 50 minutes. I had to follow up several times, and the staff's response was far from professional—no proper communication or even an apology for the delay.I travelled all the way from Oxford hoping for a standout experience, but this place turned out to be just a typical restaurant. Nothing to make it worth the journey.

Best ever restaurant in luton where you get top quality kerala style food and commendable service. The most outstanding factor is the dining space avaiable. There is enough space for big family get together and for birthday parties. We conducted our son’s birthday party here for 2 times and the food and service was exceptionally good and relatively cheap as well ;). I recommend this place to everyone.

Long wait for food.. porotta was very hard, struggled to chew.. Dum biriyani was below standard. Toilet and wash room was in real bad condition. There was urine blockage in standing urine closet. Toilet also in very bad state. Very poor. This is a honest comment, hope the management will take necessary actions to get things sorted. Good luck

My wife is a vegetarian and the gobi manchurian with porotta was a hit.. Non veg food is easier to find but very difficult to find good vegetarian options.. All in all great experience

This was a lovely place with lovely Tamil speaking staff. Loved the atmosphere inside and took us back to our time in Kerala. We ordered the chicken dambellani, kappa and fish curry, parotas specifically 'paal parotta' which was basically 3 parottas soaked in milk and beef curry. I don't usually eat beef but this was amazing 🤌🏽😀 10/10 would come back again🥰

We ordered a takeaway as this restaurant was recommended to us. We hoped it would be our go to Indian restaurant/takeaway. I called the restaurant as I had a couple of questions about the food. He said as I was collecting I could place the order on the phone. He didn’t quote a price and I should have checked. When we collected it we noticed the prices were much higher and queried it at the time but he said the website was out of date. I said this was illegal but he wasn’t going to alter it. When we got home which is only 10 minutes away, I had to reheat the food in the microwave when I’d put it on my plate as it was barely lukewarm and the flavour was underwhelming. We then went online as though to put an order through, we paid £27 when we collected it and the price online was £17.40 including a 15% discount that he told us we couldn’t have as they weren’t offering any discounts just now. We get that it’s hard for restaurants just now but this all seems a shambles. I called the restaurant before I wrote this review but didn’t feel they were very sympathetic, in the end they offered us money off next time but there won’t be a next time.

Long waits for the food, I noticed some other customers also complained about food delays. The quality food is below average, beef biryani's rice was okay but the meat was flavourless, basically all of the food we ordered, even kids didn't like it. Service- we have been informed that a bit busy will serve the starters first and delay on mains, we agreed but the main course came before starters. The quantity of food is too much, I prefer quality over quantity.

We went on lunch time on a Sunday. We did order chtticor, it was below average, meat did not taste nice. Also ordered pothichor, never had such a pathetic pothichor in life. Few items have not been served from the order. Staffs were having a dont care attitude. This place is not for you if you would have ever tasted authentic Kerala food in your life. The food was very delicious and especially their desert (fruit salad) was a hit amongst our guests. The quantity ordered for the party was more than sufficient and could serve whole heartedly to all without limitations.

Went to try masala dosa. Presentation was poor. Sambhar taste was not great. Every table they already put a small water bottle which is not a part of your actual order. They will charge you for it if you open it which is wrong practice. Why they don’t serve water on demand and charge for it? So far below average experience.

Went to kerala Hut multiple times. Food is average if that. However my main gripe is the service. Service is terrible. Slow and inefficient. Waiters are borderline rude. For example recently, we had to walk out since the waiting times were too long and after all the waiting, we were not served by the order we came in.

One of the best South Indian restaurants in Northampton. There are lots of options to try and presented in a great way. The price is very reasonable compared to Oxford and London side restaurants. Have visited again and the food was consistently delicious. Definitely recommend to anyone craving some Kerala delicacies.

The food is authentic Kerala food even though the selection is limited. We visit whenever we miss authentic Kerala Malayali Thattu kada/Kallu shaapu food. The seating and ambience could be better and improved especially near the entrance. Customers could be better accommodated if seating is kept more aligned throughout the place.
