I stayed here for three nights at the end of October whilst working in the area, I have stayed at the Springfield Hotel and The Countryman as well as the Rembrandt in Weymouth but this is my favourite so far. The only thing lacking is any fitness facilities. The rooms are good, I had a room upstairs which was a good standard and a good size. I had a problem with the shower one morning as another reviewer mentioned, it seems to run out of water. However after a 5 mins it started working again. I'd heard mixed reviews from my colleagues about breakfast service but I found it to be of a high standard although it was half-term so the hotel was quite busy. Smoked salmon and scrambled egg was excellent. I had dinner in the restaurant one evening, the menu is short (not surprisingly for a small hotel), I had salmon which was excellent, plain cooking well executed. The owner was around and was very friendly. I will definitely stay again.

I stayed here with my partner for one night over the Easter bank holiday weekend. We spent the day in Swanage, about 20/25 minutes drive away. The hotel was really easy to find as it's off a main road but despite this, the room was very quiet and you couldn't hear the traffic. The room we were given was on the ground floor and it was HUGE! I've never seen a hotel room so big! The bed was king size, there was a sofa, chairs and TV, and the bathroom was spacious as well. We were also given complimentary mini chocolate eggs with the tea/coffee making facilities as it was Easter - I nice little touch that we really appreciated! We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant as we didn't really have the energy to get in the car and find somewhere else to eat. We were seated in the lounge where we were served drinks and ordered food. We found it a little strange to be seated in the lounge until our food was ready but if you had children with you there were games and books for them to use. The food was beautiful and it was a large portion! The bed was comfortable although there was a strange ticking noise that went on through the night. We told the hotel staff in the morning and they were very apologetic and promised to check it after we left. Breakfast was included with our room rate and offered both cooked breakfast and cereal/fruit options. The staff were very accommodating of different dietary requirements. Overall I really enjoyed our stay here and wished it could have been for one night! The room was brilliant and such a good size. The food was excellent as well. The staff were friendly and accommodating although there only seemed to be two people working there so the woman looked a little stressed! This hotel is a good distance from local attractions and would be a good base for visiting Swanage, Corfe Castle and Lulworth Cove.

The good, the bad and the ugly. Lovely bedroom, comfortable bed but pillows like hardboard! shower not working so decided on a bath as arrived soaking wet after being caught in a downpour. It was lunchtime and used the last of the shower gel to make bubbles but realised just before I jumped in that the hot water had run out. Not happy! A light over the mirror in the bathroom would be a big improvement and a towel big enough to go round and cover me! I am not big but they were hand towel size for me. Such a small thing that makes it feel less luxurious and would be cheap to put right. Plenty of drawers and wardrobe space. Good TV channels but volume restricted to quite a low level if there is any other ambient noise from a neighbouring room for example. Still, I really liked the room. The restaurant is a different matter. It is tired and very old fashioned. The windows in the conservatory where I was seated are not double glazed. There was rotten wood in places. Above my head was netting which was grey and in dire need of a wash as it was holding a number of dead flies and other insects (see pictures). The evening menu was very limited and very old fashioned and the breakfast also very out of date nowadays. No good hotel is serving breakfast like that any more and a limited choice of cereal and juice (2) no mineral water or fresh fruit salads or croissants etc, just tinned fruit. No healthy option, no granola, no fat free alternatives or yoghurts that I could see. This is a lovely old house with a newer block of 12 bedrooms on the side of it. Those rooms are bigger. I will stay here again but I will ask for the better room/s and try and get a deal as very expensive for what I got!

I expected more from this Hotel/Country House, it was advertised as 5 starred which I don't feel it is by any means but that's just my opinion. It was a comfortable place to stay in, certainly not luxurious though, right on the main Road so you couldn't miss it which is a plus. Bedroom was spacious, décor and furnishings were good although I did notice a bit of mold on the net curtain . Lovely décor in the restaurant. We were visiting relatives and therefore didn't have dinner there just came back for drinks that evening and had breakfast the next morning. All in all it was ok for the purpose we wanted it for - just an overnight stay while visiting the area. Very friendly staff.

This is billed as a luxurious accommodation it is not it is adequate, clean and has large rooms in the annex that we used. Disappointments were that I emailed the hotel 4 days before arrival, they never bothered to reply, the Manager / Owner addressed me as young man ( I am over 65) rather than my name, on our first morning we asked for tea and hot water, got the hot water but no tea for another 10 minutes, it went to another table, had to go and find the waiting staff to ask for our plates to be cleared 15 mins after we had finished, Tins of paint stored in reception, bottles of drinks in the corridors. With a bit more care and professionalism this could be a really nice hotel

The hotel is a middle of the road country-style hotel with decent rooms and friendly staff. The restaurant is pleasant and the food and service very acceptable. No superlatives to offer but no negatives either; all in all a good hostelry in the Wareham/Swanage area.

My parents wanted to take us, two vegetarians, out for dinner somewhere special. We chose Kemps, after checking that they did offer at least one vegetarian main course. When we arrived, we found the menu had indeed the promised one vegetarian main course - mascarpone and tomato ravioli. However, the only vegetarian starter was mozarella & tomato salad. So two courses, both cheese and tomato! I had really expected better at Kemps, but hadn't realised just how behind the times they are. What an unimaginative chef they must have. We left, and went to the Red Lion in Wareham, where they had several vegetarian choices and great service. We will not bother with Kemps again

Plush surroundings and comfortable seating and top quality décor didn't make up for the rather disappointing Sunday Roast. The roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings were very dry. In fact the Yorkshires were burnt! More gravy was requested and a very meagre amount was given. The Cranberry sauce came nearly at the end of the meal and the stuffing did not appear at all! The staff are enthusiastic, welcoming and pleasant but the overall experience was rather spoiled by the food. Overpriced for the quality of food.

Took a punt on Kemps having found it on the internet - and what a good punt it turned out to be. From when I first phoned to book until we left the service was very friendly and welcoming. James (yes really) came and took over pre-dinner drinks order whilst we sat in a lovely lounge. Then we moved to the conservatory end of the dining room to eat - the meal was lovely. My mother declared it was some of the nicest roast turkey she had eaten. Finished off with Earl Grey tea and coffees in the lounge - all very relaxing.

prebooked a party of 4 for a 65 birthday for the carvery have always enjoyed before so thought we would have a nice meal there.whoops were we wrong we arrived in plenty of time and were sat in the lounge area.shown through to our table and ordered our starters and drinks/o/kthen they informed us our carvery was ready my wife and i got up and went to the counter a tiny piece of grissely beef was put on her plate and the waiter turned to me i asked for beef and made a joke that he would need more than what he was ableto cut of that and he dissapeared into the back leaving us standing there looking like idiots.my wife stopped a waitress who went to find out what was wrong only to return to say they had run out of meat i thought she was joking, when the young lady turned up at our table only to repeat what she had said earlier.turning to my son and daughter who had driven over 100 miles to join us that they could have a steak only my son in law does not eat steak nor do i so we were now completely going without food.we had to leave as there was nothing else we could do, and unfortunatly could not find anywere to eat as it was sunday pm.our whole had been ruined. will not return to what seems like a very poor show.wrote letter of complaint sent by hand not even a phone call to say sorry

Haven’t been for a long time. Decided to meet some family who were holidaying in the area and was not disappointed. Will definitely be back as food and service was on point. We had mixed grills which were advertised at 24oz and certainly met that with high quality well cooked meats. The chunky chips were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My wife said the lasagne was one of the best she has had. So whilst we haven’t been here for years l, we will be changing that to revisit again soon!

We have recently attended two Sunday carveries under the new management. Our first experience was the trial carvery day and the second was two weeks later. We enjoyed the first carvery (the meat and potatoes being particularly good), but some of the vegetables on that occasion weren't so good. However, our second carvery food experience was markedly better. The turkey, beef and gammon joints were all well-cooked, the meats were succulent and tender and the portions generous. On the second occasion, the vegetables were also well cooked and there was a good selection. The staff are friendly and pleasant, but the ‘front of house’ could be better organised, although to be fair one member of staff said that they were trying different “meet and greet” options on the day. Hopefully this will also improve as experience is gained. After seeing very mixed reviews since the pub changed hands earlier this year, it is great to see a good carvery returning to the village. Give it a try and help support your local pub. We will definitely be back.

By far the best pub in Dorset. We have been coming here for the last 3 years and it never fails! The staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The atmosphere is cosy and warm and the decor is traditional but well maintained. If you want a cosy pub/restaurant in a quaint English village, you need to try this place. The roast dinners are great too. Huge portions! It includes everything...yorkshire pudding, roasties, stuffing, loads of meat and a wide selection of vegetables with delicious gravy. It all tastes very fresh. The desserts are amazing too. The sticky toffee pudding is to die for!!! We are going again in a couple of weeks for another roast...can't wait! If you dine there over Xmas they do an amazing raclette with pulled pork and crispy chips...delicious and highly recommend! This place is definately one to add to your 'must visit' list :)
