Very disappointing lunch @ Kedleston Hall Restaurant. 1. We had to queue for at least 15 mins to place our order with only 1 person operating the order point / till. 2. Having queued up, I was then advised that Cornish Pasty was not available so had to make a last minute order switch. If a board had been put up, advising of any unavailable items, I could have sorted my alternative order out whilst queuing. 3. Having ordered a Cheese & Onion pasty instead of the Cornish Pasty I wanted, I received a pasty which was practically inedible. It had been massivley overheated & over baked, resulting in a pasty that was burnt, hard-baked & couldn't been identified as having anything to do with cheese or onion. Usually I would have sent it back, but the lengthy wait & queue made this impractical so I attacked the pasty as best I could and left the completely inedible pastry crust. Would definitely not recommend or return.

Lovely outside area to eat in as well as the old hall kitchen. Just mind the rooks who are ready to collect the crumbs. Lovely home made soup.

Always consistently good food and service. My wife and I called in late afternoon for a drink and early dinner. Knew exactly what we wanted and it was served just as expected. Not often I leave a restaurant really satisfied but I always do at the KH. Always a nice buzz about the place too. Lucky to have it within walking distance.

We came for the carvery today with great expectations. Unfortunately it didn't live up to the recommendations. With the large option you could only choose two meats and not a slice of each like others we have visited. The meat was over cooked and very dry. I didn't even dare try the turkey which is my usual go to as it looked cremated. Such as shame. It was disappointing to be given frozen Yorkshire Pudding, frozen and a very dry stuffing ball and although half the veg was was fresh which was great the Brussels were clearly frozen and like bullets. Cauliflower cheese was clearly hoke made which you could tell as it was delicious. I couldn't fault the staff they were very welcoming and friendly. Just expected a little better quality food which we didn't get today. Plead make your own Yorkshires, and stay away from frozen veg.

I revisited the Spotted Cow having decided to never return 7 years ago because the service was so poor. However, for a family gathering it was handy for everyone to get to, and I thought a lot can change in 7 years, and it had. The service was great and the front of house staff were efficient and friendly. The menu and food however were really disappointing. Minimal choice for vegetarians and vegans; jacket potato or three bean chilli. I chose the jacket potato and wished I hadn't. It was definitely a reheated potato, and I felt as if I'd been served yesterday's left overs. As there are only two vegan options, surely they could be of good, edible quality. I didn't make a fuss because I didn't want to disturb the happy family gathering we had going, but we won't be returning.

Great old pub in the middle of the countryside. Limited street parking so arrive early. Only bar that can get crowded but plenty of seating throughout.
