KAYI Mezze & Grill in Derby

We had an incredible experience at this authentic restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious, bursting with rich flavors and fresh ingredients. Each dish was carefully prepared, capturing the essence of Syrian cuisine. The service was impressive,attentive, and friendly. The interior decor was beautifully done. We enjoyed every moment here and can’t wait to return. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to experience genuine Syrian hospitality and flavors ♥️♥️♥️

Really sorry, usually we have liked the food. I ordered a sharwarma, not what I would expect. A thin triangle of nan with a load of cheap looking meat. Usually a sharwarma has pickle, clean cuts of meat, so succulent. Really disappointed. As an extending family in Mickleover and Littleover have bought from here since these guys opened up and must have spent £1000s but I’m sorry the standard isn’t the same as before.

Very nice food. Also like the fact the takeaway doesn’t come in plastic containers.

A great little restaurant I'd consider a hidden gem. I came across good reviews of this place and thought it worthwhile trying it out. It was a little loud, but that's more the customers than anything else. The food was amazing and the service was great. A little slow bringing the bill out, we had to ask twice for it, but that was a minor issue compared to the overall service and high quality of the food. Edit 1: attended again after five months; even better than the first time I went. The lamb chops were beautifully cooked, the best I've had. My mixed grill was also spot on. I can't wait to visit again. Edit 2: we came during a busy Saturday but had reserved a table. The food came out to the same high standard as always and we were in and out within the hour without ever being rushed; a testament to the service. They were also very accomodating with my order which was chicken kofta main with a portion of shawarma with it. This has quickly become my favourite place to eat out.

Quite simply the best authentic restaurant I've been to. Great portions of fantastic, freshly prepared food. Value is far better than the large chain restaurants serving poor quality food.

perfect for any occasion. The menu offers a diverse selection of delicious mezze and grilled dishes. The lamb kebabs were especially flavorful, and the mezze platters were fresh and varied. The service was excellent

Ordered the mixed grill platter, the chicken and lamb were raw. Waiter agreed it was and took it away and replaced. Then the new grill platter was brought out, we ate a few bites however on further inspection more pieces were raw. Was still charged full price for this which was over £60. A few hours later both myself and partner was violently sick all night. Avoid.

Wonderful service from Ahmer and the turkish lady - first time here, ordered the grilled chicken sheesh and shawarma - highly recommended!

I came with a friend. She got the Chicken Shish Taouk, and half of the chicken pieces were severely undercooked. She got me to try one and I spat it straight back out due to how slimy and chewy it was. This wasn’t just one or two pieces, this was atleast half of them. Upon complaining, they offered to put them back on the grill but my friend said no as she was now put off the dish (also, why would they put the same pieces back on the grill when they were all bitten and chewed and then spat out?). When I received the bill, I noticed that they hadn’t removed the item, so I asked for it to be removed. The waitress said she will go and ask if she can do it. Another waitress then came over and said they can’t do it and that if we had said it before they would’ve cooked it, to which my friend explained that we did complain at the time but she was put off and hence said no. She then said she will go and check with her manager, and after coming back she said that the manager said no we have to pay to because ‘the rules are rules’. I didn’t escalate the situation further and just paid but I was absolutely fuming. Any decent manager would’ve come out himself at the first complaint and would’ve taken the item off the bill without even being asked, and here this guy was refusing to remove it despite it being their fault. Extremely poor customer service, do not recommend at all.

Delicious food and excellent service!!! Highly recommend! My friend and I visited after a local alpaca walk, we were made to feel incredibly welcome and ordered three starters and a mixed grill to share as a main meal, the presentation was exceptional and the food was a taste sensation! We ordered a baklava which we paired with a portion of ice-cream to share as dessert, oh my gosh - absolutely delightful!!! We were informed by the host that the ice-cream was made by hand at the restaurant and quality of our sweet was the icing on the cake of our dining experience. Though not from the area, i would travel there again just to eat that food and treat my friends!!! If you like Mediterranean food this restaurant will not disappoint! 😋

My first experience here was highly enjoyable. Really nice interior and ambience to place could see my food being grilled. Food was seasoned, flavourful and came out hot. Waitresses were lovely and had a friendly, inviting atmosphere. Will definitely be back here!

If you expect to eat turkish foods, unfortunately you will not be satisfied by the taste and the plate you are served. Foods are very spicy.

Being Middle Eastern, I’m a self proclaimed expert on the cuisine. I feel a ful (pun #1) for not knowing about this place before. I ordered the lamb kofta with a side of fries and shish (pun #2), it was incredible. The food was fresh and the flavours were immaculate; I left feeling fatta (last pun, promise) than ever. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming (I expected nothing less), with a terrific complimentary Turkish tea provided after the meal. Don't just take my word for it; I took my mother here, who was born and raised with this food and she absolutely loved it (that's when you know it's good)

I'm just speechless on how good the food is! It is so amazing! I'm definitely coming here every Sunday for the Mandi!

Randomly visited Kayi while in the area overnight, couldn't have been luckier, the food was absolutely amazing. Had a sharing platter and ordered extra lentil soup. The meat was so tender and the lovely were friendly.

10/10 will order again. Incredible, fresh vegan food!

The food was excellent. Very big portions. Service wasn't as good. It was a busy night. The front of house seemed to be run by young waiting on staff. Would definitely go back though.

This place is absolutely delicious, excellent service. I ordered a non alcoholic beer and didnt like the smell so they took it back and didnt charge me, the lamb was cooked so perfect that your teeth just slide straight through

Amazing place, lot of people don't know about this place. Its Halal and kids friendly, definitely recommend to those who are planning to go somewhere to eat. Excellent service, friendly staff, delicious food and free Turkish tea on the house.

Faultless, food was 5 star & am a harsh critic. Takes a while for food to come out but only because it's cooked piping hot fresh whilst you nimble on starters! Staff were helpful, place was clean & excellent location.

Some of the best food I've ever eaten and huge range on the menu for both vegetarian and meat options. Portion sizes are generous and really well priced and the restaurant is immaculate. Our experience was let down by slow service and missing order items. Three tables were sat after us and served drinks before our order was taken, a starter was missed, and I had to ask three times for the bill at the end. Apart from that the staff were really polite.

We went here on 16th December it was our first time and it was amazing, staff brilliant food excellent 👌 we will be back very soon

Cannot praise this place enough. We went recommended by some friends and it exceeded our expectations. The place is so lovely in its design, cleanliness, and it’s always a fantastic sign when the kitchen is see-through. The staff were so lovely, polite, kind and always helpful - amazing. And the food - just wow, so so nice and tasteful. The speed was incredible and the taste was just so different and well cooked. Overall, hats off to everyone involved and we will definitely keep coming back!! Im quite picky and this is one of my starred places in Derby.

Had the mixed grill and starters of Garlic Mushrooms and Falafel. Beautiful meats cooked with the mind blowing flavour of exotic coals. The falafel were "melt in your mouth". The garlic shrooms were pizzed up with scotch bonnet pepper. What a bombastic array of platters were set before us and that includes the zippy dippy doo dah dips. BANG !!!! COO COO WHAT A SMIRKER!!

Just been to Kayi for the 2nd time - I visited originally with friends and insisted that my family had to experience it too. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is excellent. The restaurant is clean and modern too. Thank you to the staff for getting us a table at the last minute, we had a brilliant evening.

Great food, reasonable price. Conveniently close to A38 but still in Derby.. Very convenient car park behind it (although is of the community center nearby). Try as many starter as you can l, they are worth it.

Amazing meal and fantastic service from the moment we walked in without a booking. There was no space for us, so we were told they would accommodate us in 15 mins. We went to the store picked up some things we needed anyway and came back again and were seated. The person in charge understood we had a hungry child and went above and beyond to seat us. The food was also really good, fresh and plentiful. Would highly recommend.

Food was delicious, well cooked and fresh. The wait was not excessive. Able to see food being cooked. Service was excellent and the servers were so polite. Very reasonably priced. Can't wait to return.

Excellent place. Open cooking in front of the restaurant on Peruvian charcoal. Lovely food, great portions. All having that smoky char from the grill. Beers are all alcohol free, but the food tastes so good it doesn't matter. Will be back

We had a lovely evening at Kayi yesterday. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, and waiting staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is smart, well cared for and attractive. The quiet background music added to the atmosphere - it felt as if we were on holiday! We’ll definitely eat there again.

We went for a family meal last night, and the food was absolutely stunning. What turned a great meal into a fantastic experience were the staff. Friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and attentive. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough- we will definitely be back

Ran by a warm tight near crew I would say family but don't want assume. Amazing healthy well cared for food. Good service and balance flavours throughout. It was a bit quite when I was there, I think that's a shame because that means loads of people are missing a real treat. Be warned no alcohol is served, I found this just a liberating change to the norm of the obligatort drink with dinner. Didn't miss it at all. 100% recommend as an easy healthly and heart warming meal out.
