Not authentic Kerala food nor value for money Over time, I’ve come to feel that Kayal doesn’t quite deliver authentic Kerala cuisine. The dishes tend to be a milder, less vibrant version of what you’d typically find back home. I understand the need to cater to a broader customer base, but many restaurants manage to retain authenticity while offering varying spice levels. If I were bringing someone here for an introduction to Kerala food, I’d definitely say not to judge the cuisine based solely on this experience. True Kerala food is far more bold, rich, and celebratory in flavour. Unfortunately, some of the dishes here just feel quite bland. That said, the customer service and ambience are lovely, no complaints there. But as someone from Kerala, I can’t say I’m impressed with the food. Also almost all the dishes are way over priced.

I recently visited kayal in Leamington. I tried the chicken biriyani and it was an absolute treat. It was served hot and fresh. The atmosphere of the restaurant was equally impressive. Overall, if your an fan of authentic kerala style chicken biriyani, this spot is definitely worth checking out. I'd happily go back again.

Divided opinion on this one, my brother rated the vegetarian options but I thought all the dishes tasted the same.

A lovely food will be going back soon. Last month we celebrated Onam here with the family. It was really lovely experience and atmosphere. We went there in traditional dress and booked table before. The sadhya was so good. We even come on the second day to have sadhya. We didn't miss Onam and felt we are in kerala.

Tried chicken biriyani and seafood biriyani from there honestly terrible. If you’re looking for a good biryani experience, this is not the place. Extremely disappointing and definitely not worth the price.

Had dinner at kayal and the food was exceptionally good. Seafood items are a must try. Really recommend the cheera erachi curry with coconut rice combo. Definitly coming back again.

I had the pleasure of dining at Kayal recently and tried their lamb dosa—and it was absolutely incredible. The dosa was perfectly crisp, the lamb was tender and full of rich, aromatic flavors, and the chutneys and sambar complemented everything beautifully. You can tell the kitchen takes great pride in what they do. A special thank you to our server, who was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. The entire team at Kayal, from the chefs to the front of house, deserves appreciation for creating such a welcoming atmosphere and serving truly memorable food. I’ll definitely be back soon!

Keralite here! Absolutely loved the lunch, I have been to many South Indian places in the uk but this one stood out. Had their business lunch which had good portions of chicken curry, sambar, chutney etc with ghee dosa and some rice. For the price it was well worth it and everything on the taali tasted amazing. Also tried their prawns curry with aappam, such a well balanced curry it reminded me of back home. Kudos to Kaayal chef 👍🏻 highly recommend if you’re looking for an authentic South Indian cuisine.

Very authentic and different from the usual “English” Indian restaurant. They don’t do heat for the sake of it and the flavours were lovely. If you’re after the Vindaloo or Madras experience, go elsewhere. The service was excellent and the magician entertaining!

Fabulous food with an unusual menu - not your standard curries. Very helpful staff as we needed guidance on dishes and number of portions. I recommend the mixed seafood curry and the appams

Celebrated their new year tonight in style. Proper delicious and varied South Indian dishes. We had the special 11 dish veggie Thali - Vishu Sadya. It was amazing but be warned, you won’t need to eat for a week!😆 Joe served our table. What a delight. So polite and helpful. Can’t wait until we can return.

I love Kayal. The staff are very attentive and polite, toy are never left to your own devices for ages like at many other places, it’s a pleasure to deal with them. It makes you feel like a valued customer. The food is incredible. Nothing else to say here, their food is delicious. I have to add that the chicken biryani is my go-to, it is also a favourite of my husband’s. The atmosphere is absolutely lovely, the restaurant is very cosy, the interior is a very nice combination of traditional and modern. Very different menu to what we were used to, but our waiter Lijo explained the different options. He was friendly and attentive. The food itself was excellent. The whole ambience was very good and we would definitely recommend.

The chicken Biryani was nice. Would have liked to have seen a lamb biryani but not on the menu. Staff are friendly. It's not the cheapest but it's certainly more authentic than alot of Indian restaurants and let's face it, their rates have gone up as well!

Lovely experience at Kayal. A friendly welcome, attentive staff and a nice big table. There is parking nearby, but we were lucky enough to find on street parking outside, which was handy. The food was great, very traditional in flavour and appearance. We ordered a selection of items, but the dosa was wonderful. It gets very busy in the evenings, which is great to see, however the service is impacted at some times. This isn't a typical "English" Indian restaurant. This is a real South Indian restaurant with cuisine using different flavours and ingredients to the usual. You should definitely experience it. Would recommend!

Wonderful food and lovely people! Very different from the run of the mill Indian restaurant. Be prepared to go outside your comfort zone and order something different! I highly recommend the Thali - very tasty and filling. Not overly expensive and great for a special treat

My wife and I stumbled upon this restaurant on a Saturday outing, and let me tell you—it was a life-changing experience. I ordered the fish and seafood thali, and I’m not saying it was divine intervention, but I did briefly hear angels singing. The food was so good, I considered writing my will on the spot just to ensure this thali would be mentioned in it. I’ve eaten at more Indian restaurants than I care to admit (my stomach has its own frequent flyer miles to India), but this thali? It’s the Beyoncé of thalis—iconic, flawless, and life-altering. The decor? Where do I even begin? It’s like stepping into an old Indian village, but instead of cows wandering the streets, there’s a Royal Enfield motorcycle chilling inside like it’s the guest of honor. At first, I thought someone had misread the GPS and parked indoors by accident. But honestly, it fit so well that by the end of the meal, I was tempted to ask if I could take it for a spin. The warm lighting, rustic walls, and wooden accents all came together like some kind of interior design Bollywood blockbuster. The vibe was so cozy, I half-expected someone to hand me a cup of chai and read me bedtime stories. The background music was soft and relaxing, but not so relaxing that I’d fall asleep mid-thali (though I was dangerously close after the food coma hit). It was the perfect balance—like eating in your favorite grandma’s house, except your grandma has exquisite taste in decor and doesn’t judge how much you’re eating. And the staff? Let me just say, if there’s ever a world championship for “nicest humans alive,” they’d win gold every time. They were so friendly and attentive that I’m now seriously considering adding them to my Christmas card list. They made sure everything was perfect, and by the end of the night, I felt like they knew me better than my own therapist. In conclusion, this place is a total gem. The food is unforgettable, the decor is Instagram gold, and the Royal Enfield inside is a weirdly perfect cherry on top. The food was really amazing . From the moment we walked in ,the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The staff was incredibly friendly,attentive and knowledgeable about the menu ( especially the staffs named Shimjith and Lijo ) . I just really loved this place🥰

Not local but been twice last 2 years when seeing friends in the area. Great food both times. Not your normal "standard Indian" with poppadoms/garlic naan, chicken tikka masala and lamb madras. But both times we've gone with whatever the waiter has recommended and everything has been amazing. Couldn't name a single thing we had but mains, starters, sides were all delicious. Next time in Leamington I will be back.

Went with my friends on the New Year’s Eve. We ordered Seafood mix starters, Meen Porichathu, Tilapia Pollichathu, Kozhi Kurumulagu, Appams and Neychoru. The food was amazing! Especially appam and meen porichathu! The portion size is great, taste is awesome, but would have liked it a little spicier. The ambience was nice but kind of overwhelming. Felt like they tried to do everything. I think they should stick with minimal design/decor.

Been here 14 years ago, the Kayal I remember then is miles apart from my visit today. Food was very late. Food tasted very average. Food is over priced , it's not even a Michelin star but the price is almost the same as one. Atmosphere is average. I understand for people in leaminton this and Herb (again owned by same owner as Kayal) are the only option. We were in wagamama yesterday it had far better environment, service was spot on and ambience was a lot better, still we paid a lot less.

Food’s incredible as well as Joe. I tried fish tilapia which was phenomenal. Service is good, nice and cozy atmosphere.

Okay, but not great. Certainly not spicy enough to be authentic, but as others have said, it is probably aimed at the local audience. We specifically asked if a dish ordered was spicy, was told yes, and it was tikka masala heat at best. Unfortunately, the flavours didn't add enough to be 'about the flavour, not the heat'. The seafood sharing platter was also quite dry and only had two mussels (there was four of us). Service was pleasant, and ambience is nice, but for the price, you'd expect more. Average.

Came here with a couple friends after the lights went on in town, I’m not usually a big curry fan but I have to say, the Pothum Boliyum is probably the best curry I’ve ever had! Spice and sweet, with the creamy and the crunch from the coconut, topped with fired plantain, absolutely divine! Service was wonderful and the atmosphere was lovely. Will 100% be returning!

I was craving South indian food, so I came here my favourite place in leamington. It can be a bit expensive but worth it as it is delicious. The waiters provide a lovely service and are very attentive. Plus the atmosphere is relaxing.

Tried their paper dosa and vada. The food was generally below average. Seasoning and spice was not authentic and the chutneys, sambhar and masala were extremely mild and lacked salt and punch. Probably the third best South Indian food in Leamington.

I had a mutter paneer. Very creamy! And just boiled rice. It was delicious. At first I thought the portions were a bit small but with the richness the quantity was just fine. Staff were very friendly and professional.

Good ambience and service. Sea food biriyani - very average... Was more like curry gravy and rice with sea food protein thrown in. Lamb dosa- it comes as two large Dosa in one portion £15. Not value for money. Thilapia pollichathu- was decent... Went well with appams Management is humble. People are lovely. But chef needs replacement. Overall very average. Surely not value for money.

I came here once with work and having tried the food and excellent service, I returned with my husband. We are North Indian and food at Kayal surpasses anything I have tried at local restaurants. Recommend the lamb curry and fish curry. We also enjoyed parantha and kallapam.

Delicious food and lots of options for gluten free!

Food was really nice. I had my 87 year old parents and disabled wife with me and because of a ridiculously steep and narrow spiral staircase we're unable to use the toilet. We were told if they couldn't get up the stairs to take a 5 minute walk to the nearest Tesco and use theirs.Surely this is wrong as there were downstairs conveniences for the staff.Not at all happy and won't be returning 😡

Amazing ambience, our go to place in Leamington. Best served - prawn curry, pepper chicken curry, appam, payasam and cobra beer. 10/10 for service and food, book your table especially for weekends.

Tracking showed order prep hadn't started at delivery time. Requested text update. No text for 15 minutes after delivery time was pushed back 35 minutes after the time I had selected when ordering. Has to look for delivery driver. Food stone cold.

The best South Indian food there is around Warwickshire. The food is absolutely palatable, and is very reminiscent of indigenous Malayali cuisine. The ambience of the place is also noteworthy, and staff do their job with aplomb. An ideal place for a family or friends' outing. Do try out their seafood thali

I recently visited "Kayal"and was impressed by the ambiance, cleanliness, and excellent customer service. However, the chicken biriyani didn’t meet expectations for authentic Kerala flavors. While the dish was decent, it lacked the traditional spices and ghee rice, especially considering the high cost. Overall, a pleasant experience, but not worth it for authentic Kerala biriyani.

Lovely ambiance and decor. Nice staff. Loved the magician. The interesting menu promises a lot, the execution of everything we ordered was poor. Unlively and lazy seasoning and spicing catering totally for a western palette accompanied by doughy non flaky parathas. Dry and under the pass too long rice. Nothing like the true vibrancy and opulence of keralan / malabar food. Should have filtered reviews by South Indians who pretty unanimously rate this place poorly. Maybe the Thalis or Dosas are decent. If only the food lived up to the decor.

Delicious food. Sad it's so rare to find Keralan food in the UK because it's so good. Kayal is good value for money, especially the appam. The staff were so kind, especially to us as it was my dads birthday- he is 77 and has dementia. They brought him a lovely halwa. Also impressed it was open all afternoon so we did not have to rush our late lunch.

I have just enjoyed the most delicious business lunch for a long time - fabulous Dhosa and chicken cooked in the most delicious mouth watering spices. Such warm, welcoming and accommodating staff and beautiful service throughout with attention to feedback ensuring you are happy with your choice. Mahis looked after me beautifully sharing helpful tips and selection combinations and I can’t wait to come back and share the experience with many of my foodie friends.
