Wow!!! What a place. Best tapas I've had outside of Malaga. The food is unreal, service class and the chefs are brilliant. We ate there twice in our weekend stay in Newcastle and already looking forward to our return. I would urge all who visit to give a big thumbs up to top sous chef, Conor. Not only an outstanding chef but great craic. Give it a go, I promise you won't be disappointed.

We had 2 glasses of white wine (£9.75 per glass!!) not at the right temperature, tasty but not special, very expensive. Patatas Bravas (£10.00) were mediocre, 3 mini Iberico ham croquettes (balls) (£10.00) were tasty, portion of Squid Rings with a kind of paprika powder (?) coating, tasteless and due to frying paprika powder was a kind of sandy, burnt become a shell. We didn't eat it... We were nicely offered something else for which we thanked. All in all, everything here is really overpriced for what you get! Not recommended.

Except for the beer (Galicia star) and the music, the rest is bad. Service included. The Spanish omelette, in a puddle of egg, with lots of black peppercorns and raw onion. The olives are the worst quality there is. Although it is advertised: chamomile, black and red cuquillo... Nothing, just pitted. I don't recommend it at all.

Expensive and not much food for your money. Wine was nice but expensive too. Ordered cheese and meat board to share thinking it would be enough but there was hardly anything on it. We were still hungry afterwards so we ordered a Spanish omelette but it was was bland and tasteless. Spoke to manager about cheeseboard and was told it was imported from Spain so that was why it was £22. Clearly Brexit has a lot to answer for. Overall it's Overpriced.

Having eaten at Kaltur many times before we were looking forward to our meal last night, as it has been a while since we last visited. Last time we went the restaurant was fully booked, so walking in on a Friday night to find only 5 other tables occupied should have been a sign that things aren't up to the same standard anymore. The whole restaurant stunk of drains for a start which was extremely off-putting. We ordered 4 tapas, 3 of which came really quickly then we waiting ages for the Spanish tortilla to come (I actually chased it up in the end). It has always been a favourite dish for me in the past, but when it came it was so disappointing. It was completely unseasoned so tasted of nothing. When the waitress asked if it was ok I was honest and said no, it's not seasoned. She quickly said ok I'll take it off your bill and removed not only that dish, but our plates and cutlery too in quite an abrupt manner. I understand taking the dish away, but felt taking our plates away was a bit unnecessary? She did end up bringing clean plates and cutlery so we could finish the rest of our other dishes. Sadly having rated them highly before, we won't be back after our experience last night.

Came for a quick bite and some wine with my business partners and had a great time. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great; busy but not too loud. Our waitress Lucia made excellent wine recommendations. Food was delicious especially Iberico Pork. Most importantly it’s conveniently close to our hotel at Grey Street. Cannot recommend highly enough & will definitely be coming back next time we are in Newcastle!

Had originally reviewed this place as 5*, I stand by that for the food and atmosphere on the evening we were there, however, absolutely disgusted by the Manager here, the same person that served us back in January when we went. I have been here many times across the two venues in Newcastle since my initial visit so when I was meeting a friend for lunch, it seemed like a no brainer. The friend ended up being ill and having to go to hospital, so we had to reschedule. At 8am when I got up for work tried to change via the email link and it didn’t work. Tried from 8am - 11am to cancel the booking by phone. Eventually at 11.05 the manager answered. I explained the situation and she said we would still be charged the £20 cancellation fee. Explained again why we were cancelling and that this was due to the email link not working. She said rules were rules and I had to understand that. She then called me a liar and said the system was working. I asked for her name and she refused to give me it. I asked to speak to the Manager to complain to be told she was the Manager. I asked for Head Office details to make a complaint about the appalling customer service to be told they don’t have one. Eventually, after 10 minutes, she said she can’t waive it because the system won’t allow it. I suggested she move my booking to later in the day and cancel it which she finally did, but not before saying to me that “next time I really need to give them more notice”. When I again explained that this was a circumstance that was not foreseeable, that I had tried from 8am (4.5 hours before my booking which you are meant to be able to amend or cancel up until 4pm) to cancel the booking via the email link and that if they are going to enforce this policy in a genuine emergency and their system was not working then they should have a 24/7 booking line in case of this. I also pointed out that even though this was an emergency situation (granted not life threatening) I had still had the courtesy to try and contact them where many other people wouldn’t have. She then said again that “rules are rules”. After her “computer says no” attitude and total lack of basic customer service skills or empathy in this situation, I will not be setting foot in that place again.

Menu doesn't make sense specials are not mains arrive together with starters. What hit me is arrival of beef before fish tartare. Tapas is to share by definition but where share options are available I expect individual orders to arrive together I waited 40 min for tartare where beef was dead twice by then

The food was decent but we had to wait ~1h for a tuna tartare, which was just guacamole wasabi with raw fish. Menu is confusing, specials are not mentioned to arrive with straters and we had to wait a long time for the other dish to arrive.

This wine bar has a lovely aesthetic with lots of wine on display and looks beautiful. The waitresses were all very polite and tried to be helpful. Unfortunately the food didn't deliver for me. I asked for a recommendation of red wine and was duly provided with a 'full bodied' wine I'd asked for but the waitress couldn't tell me which type of wine it was without checking the bottle or where it was from. For the price point I would expect much more both for the food and the wine knowledge.

What a huge fall from grace! Last visited at the High Bridge restaurant where the food and service were transportative to Spain. It is therefore massively disappointing to have experienced inattentive staff, in a brightly lit echo chamberbat the Dean Street restaurant. The food was barely OK, yet expensive. I'd like to think it was just that english Tapas experience of having to order everything at once rather than what you fancy when you fancy it as in a real tapas restaurant, but no it was just poor. Overly chilled embutidos, salt cold that barely ever had gills, and cowardly bravas. The berenja was excellent as was the wine list. Sadly this couldn't save our experience. The waiter asked how our meal was and was thrilled to hear it was "barely OK" . Glib is a good summary.

We had lunch here after a Christmas shopping expedition. Tapas experiences have been mixed in the past, especially in Newcastle, but this one was exactly what we wanted. We chose 2 main courses each with some bread and a bottle of wine. All the courses were excellent, especially the Pork cheeks and the squid. Our waitress, Carolina, was extremely attentive and helped us to navigate the menu and wine list which added to the whole experience. If you are looking for an authentic Tapas experience, this is the one, food, wine, service and atmosphere were all excellent. We will return with the family.

Very underwhelming. The nibbles were fine (olives, bread, charcuterie) but we weren’t impressed by the cooked dishes. The tortilla was especially disappointing (how do you mess up an omelette?!) and several of the fish dishes were inedible and sent back. Although to be fair the waitress was very happy to take them off the bill. Also one of our party saw the chef leave the bathroom without washing his hands. Off putting to say the least! Plus it’s expensive. I’m assuming the chef must have changed recently as the older reviews are great but the more recent reviews are all bad, now I understand why

Nice food but highly overpriced. My fault, I should have looked at the menus before booking. I must be behind the times, but to me, I'd expect to pay £7-£10 per tapas dish. Here it's about £17 per dish. Service charge auto added to the bill for 2 people, which I wouldn't expect either. Fair enough for a group of 4 or 6 +. And then when I asked the waitress to remove the service charge so that I could determine my own tip (I changed the 10% added, to 8.6% and a round figure), I don't expect that to turn into a back-biting conversation between staff when I'm still in the restaurant either, as if I've done something wrong. The food we had was nice. I just think they've stretched the pricing boundaries for what you get. For £17 per dish I'd say that's a main course price in most restaurants, not a tasting plate. I like small venues, but this felt cramped and not a particularly pleasant environment. We weren't asked if we wanted to hang up our bulky coats either. Good food, so so service, and all felt quite rushed. We were in and out after 5 plates in 45-50mins. Went on recommendation from someone who'd been to the other Newcastle venue, but we're highly unlikely to revisit or recommend unfortunately.

Not the best tapas restaurant in Newcastle in my opinion. Expensive food with fragrant flavours but it was disappointing. It wasn’t anything special and I don’t think it’s worth the prices. They put a service charge on that they won’t take off, think it was about 10% per head. It was recommended that we got two plates each but I think three would have been better. I felt like I ate just enough but felt as though I’d be hungry later on. A knife was accidentally dropped on me by the waiter too 😳…I didn’t feel like it was massively authentic tapas food and would rather go elsewhere next time.

Table of 8. Told 30 mins into reservation we only had the table for an hour and a half total. Food hadn’t even been ordered at this point. 3 main menus between 8 of us. Were told after ordering that items were sold out rather than before. Were then told we had a total of 2 hours at the table, no apology from waiter. We were out for a special occasion so the faff was frustrating. Had to remind waiter of drink orders, had to go up to him to ask for more drinks. Octopus was really over cooked and overly salty, with it being one of the more expensive items on the menu I expected more. Lamb was lovely. Prawns were unreal. Lovely olives. Good wine selection. Service charge was 10% for pretty poor service. Would not really recommend. Plenty of other restaurants around the area with a nicer experience, better staff and great food for a similar price as well.

Went during restaurant week and I have never been more disappointed. I've been to Kaltur before (not during restaurant week) and always felt very impressed. This time however it was a total disaster. For £20pp we barely got any food... (see pictures of 4 tapas). Knowing how big the portions normally are (e.g. The pigs cheek) by boyfriends versión of it wasn't even half of the normal size. Same with everything else really. It was very disappointing to know, what it could have been. Instead we felt cheated on and honestly don't think I can ever go back after this. Staff also seemed very grumpy, and the whole experience lasted less than 30 minutes... (because there was nothing to eat) 😅 Absolutely devastated and disappointed by this, having been a loyal customer prior.

Disgusting burnt taste in both dishes, and the latter was sent with 2 end pieces of bread cut into small pieces. Gentleman on another table had them perfectly cooked and with at least 3x as much bread, so not sure why ours was so different. Comparing the pictures with other reviews and they’re a completely different colour! Not worth the price when Cafe Andaluz is up the road and much better value.

I rarely do reviews however after visiting on Monday 13th Feb, I wanted to give a special shout out to all the staff and chefs at Kaltur. When I called on the afternoon itself I wasn't expecting a table to be free (especially when I mentioned we would need pram space) however the chap I spoke to said he would happily make room at the bar for us and had it free within the half hour. When arrived we were even more pleased to see we had the best seat in the house overlooking the kitchen where the chefs worked their magic. From start to finish, all the staff were incredibly friendly and made us feel really comfortable with having our 7 month old with us. They kept our little boy entertained throughout and all the choices we had for food that was recommended by the chefs were amazing. Even when really busy, they made a massive effort to speak with us and entertain the little one including giving him some bits to try. Great Spanish Tapas. As a recent vegetarian convert I was a bit concerned that the menu might be lacking in veggie choices but we needn't have worried. The food was amazing, highlights being the tempura aubergine and a great mushroom risotto. The choice of wines is incredible and listed by region with a wine to suit every budget. Sitting at the bar it was great to watch the chefs working their magic. Highly recommended!

Great place, authentic food and flavours, nice friendly service, nice setting. Maybe needs 1 less table in place though as staff almost lost control of the business, but they did manage just about.

We had an early morning flight just before Christmas, so we thought we would have a nice breakfast before the flight. I really don’t know how you can mess up a cooked breakfast!! We found a table, that had drink stains all over it I had to ask the lad to clean the table which he did with no urgency or elbow grease, I wanted to do it myself. The breakfast arrived the bacon was that cremated we had to pick it up to eat, I didn’t want to take someone’s eye out that brittle, the eggs were sunny side up and all runny round the yolk not cooked properly. The prices that you charge would have expected something a tad better. I was not impressed at all!! I have had a catering business for several years and I would never serve something I wouldn’t eat myself. If you would like me to come in and show how to cook for the great British public, just give me the nod and I would do it free of charge. The staff are very pleasant, the only good thing about the place
