Kalendar in Camden

I have been going to Kalender for coffee breaks and lunch for many years. It is terrific with a lovely community atmosphere inside and out. The couple who run it are really friendly and the food is very tasty. Their Apple Strudel is the best ever!!

I went here for brunch on a Sunday after a walk on Hampstead Heath. It was busy when we arrived so I had high hopes. The service was good and the food came quickly. However, the food quality was pretty average - I had the 'Kalendar English breakfast' which I think was £15 but tasted like food you could cook at home with ingredients from Tesco. On the side were some tasty looking cakes so maybe it's better for tea and cake rather than a meal - brunch anyway.

This friendly family cafe makes the best mocha I’ve had in half a century of trials. My friend ordered the homemade apple pie which arrived huge, stacked full of spiced apple slices, perfect texture, topped with a top notch streusel. As a major bonus, they’re dog friendly, so you don’t have to shiver outside with your feast, you can relax indoors. Wholeheartedly recommended

Great, small restaurant. The food is fresh and tasty. Service is a little slow, but this was a Sunday brunch so that's understandable, but the food came out quite quickly so that was a pleasant surprise!

Terrible food, unfriendly service - we were made to feel very unwelcome and almost as a nuisance, and highly overpriced. Please avoid!

Well there is nonsense and there is overpriced nonsense, and Kalendar serves up overpriced nonsense £4.95 for one fried egg and toast, get two fried eggs and it’s £8.95. One sausage, one egg and toast £9.40. All served up by a grumpy waitress who certainly didn’t want to be there Anyway, first and last time going here, there are more places locally

Dropped in after a walk on the Heath. Welcoming and good food. Average prices. Closed at approx 16h00. Excellent and helpful staff.

This place had been recommended by a friend and at first it was great. Nice food, super atmosphere, interesting decor. Halfway through our breakfast a customer with a dog came in for a takeaway coffee. One of the servers, man in his 30s or 40s, went out to the kitchen then came back with something for the dog. Fed it to the animal and let it lick his fingers. Then continued serving food and drink without washing his hands.

The most expensive breakfast I have ever had in a cafe, wouldn't have minded paying if it was banging but sadly it was, well, pants!! 😅

I have been coming here for years, but I will never come back again. We were ignored when we walked in for at least five minutes, and when we were served, the servers were rude, brusque and inattentive. In top of that, the food was wildly overpriced. I paid £16 for a breakfast that included two eggs, one slice of bacon, one sausage, one has brown and a tomato. My companion asked for extra scrambled egg on his dish and was charged £8.70 for it. It is completely ridiculous! Please avoid this place, it has changed so much for the worse.

They charge £14.95 for two eggs, a single mushroom, a single tomato, maybe half a tin of beans, a single veggie sausage, two slices of toast. I can't think of worst value for money I've had at a cafe or restaurant. Nicely poached eggs gets the second star.

What a lovely place, a huge menu, very good drinks. The salads are very big and filling and well dressed. Chicken Schnitzel was excellent.

The staff are so so rude. The portions are tiny, and they really are not baby friendly at all. Will not be returning.

Lovely breakfast after swimming in the ponds - porridge and maple syrup, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on toast, beautiful art on walls and friendly efficient staff.

Back for a regular weekend lunch one of my wife’s favourites dishes no longer available but you will still find something on the menu to please eggs Benedict fine disappointed the chicken ciabatta could have been warmer still good for a quick snack but don’t visit if you don’t like the dogs around No problem with the service

I loved Cafe Mozart ( owned by the same people who owned the excellent CAFE ON THE HILL in Muswell Hill ). The owner was a chef when he was first at Mozart’s- took over dry cleaner’s next door, then made Gusto’s Pizzarena - did not do well and, decided to reinvent the Austrian themed Mozart’s - mistakenly ). It has lost all character and uniqueness with belligerent staff who are dour, sour and only talk to their fave customer group! What a shame it went so badly.

The Kalendar manager and staff were very welcoming and polite as well as very professional in service delivery of food and drinks. Food was excellent with a varied variety of good wholesome food.

My wife and I went for a late lunch today . Basically it was disappointing. Food was ok, but nothing above average. But the staff we felt were indifferent about the service to a point that they really were quite rude. Shame but there are plenty of other cafes in Highgate.

Visited with in-laws and new born on a sunny spring day; quick service, tasty salmon bagels (and salted caramel brownies), and relaxed feel overall. The cafe lacks any pretence and the idiosyncratic staff are charming and down to earth (which some other reviewers have possibly interpreted differently).

Average place. Asked for our sausage rolls to be heated up, the guy said they had just come out of the oven so we said ok but when we went outside and took them out of the bag they were stone cold. Coffee was average and a bit burnt

I used to like it here, but they will not insist on masks or social distancing so it’s not a safe place. The last two times I have been in, there have been numerous customers without masks standing around the counter, where they breathe freely over the unprotected croissants and pastries. I’m afraid they don’t appear at all concerned for the safety of their staff or customers. Sadly, this is one to avoid.

Staff not in masks. No temperature check. No sanitiser. No contact details taken. Table just given perfunctory wipe. Supposedly disposable menus stacked for re-use. It's really not that difficult to put these measures in place - other places have managed to do it very well. Wouldn't eat at Kalendar again.

We live in Kentish Town and like to support local small businesses. We decided to give Kalendar a try as they have nice tables outside and it looked like a good local. We ordered 2 grilled chicken quinoa salads. My salad arrived with a hair in it. I discreetly informed the manager as there were several dinners nearby and this unfortunately happen in restaurants. He proposed something else which I declined. My partner had his salad which was composed of a bland pile of unseasoned quinoa a few pieces of grilled chicken and some spinach leaves sprinkled on top. It wasn’t very interesting and at £13.50 a lazy attempt at a salad. I did not reorder anything as had lost my appetite at that point. There wasn’t much offered in a gesture of apology (such as coffee etc) and overall such a missed opportunity for a new local. I walked next door to the new Roni’s which has much better food, properly spaced tables for COVID, and a more fairly priced menu.

I have visited this place several times when visiting Highgate Cemetery, and as other reviewers have noted, the food and drink are great and served quickly, but the staff are surly and miserable. Each time I pay my bill they never say please or thank you or even make eye contact, which is why I’ve never left a tip. The food may be a bit expensive, but as its always top quality so I’m happy to pay the extra for that. Personally, I can put up with miserable staff if the food is good.

Kalendar was an old favorite for breakfast so we decided to go yesterday. I was disturbed to find that they were not taking any measures to protect the staff or the customers from Covid. Staff weren't wearing masks or gloves. There was no hand sanitiser at the entrance. Menus were used and handed to us by the ungloved unmasked waiting staff. The table had not been fully wiped let alone disinfected. The outside tables were as close together as before the pandemic. We decided to go to an inside corner table next to the door and well away from other customers but the staff gathered there with no social distancing so it was very disturbing. I will not go there again and suggest other Covid-concious avoid this cafe.

We went for lunch last week, taking advantage of the good weather and the Eat In to Help Out scheme. Unfortunately the tables are set up exactly as they've always been. There is zero distancing between tables, and when I asked the waitress for a socially distanced table we got a scowl by way of response. The food was good, as it usually is. Overpriced as it always has been. None of the staff wore a mask and the waitress came very close to all customers when taking orders and payment. All delivered with a surly attitude. Just being there was very anxiety making and not at all relaxing as it feels so unsafe.

Visito allí cada diciembre para un desayuno inglés completo después de visitar Golders Green Crem. La comida siempre está caliente, el servicio me ha parecido siempre amable, sin las sonrisas de plástico falsas permanentes que uno puede encontrar en otros lugares. La clientela es una mezcla interesante y he tenido algunas conversaciones interesantes con personas en las mesas vecinas. Nunca me he encontrado con el molesto hábito demasiado común en Crawley de tener cretinas portátiles golpeando el teclado y gritando por el teléfono, como si el lugar fuera su oficina privada.

Estábamos visitando el cementerio de Highgate en la víspera de Año Nuevo y vimos a Kalendar cuando pasamos. Como no somos del área, no teníamos ni idea de a dónde íbamos y no habíamos leído las reseñas, ¡afortunadamente! ¡Compramos cafés y deliciosas mochilas caseras antes de nuestro recorrido por el cementerio e incluso volvimos más tarde ese día para almorzar!Pedimos la sopa casera de verduras de raíz, una porción de buen tamaño y definitivamente lo que necesitaba después de estar afuera en un frío día de diciembre. Mi pareja pidió el pollo a la jamaiquina con arroz y guisantes, otra buena opción para calentar, ¡y le ENCANTÓ! Fue absolutamente delicioso.El personal nos pareció muy amable y servicial, y el lugar estaba lleno. Pagamos 35 por dos comidas, dos cafés, un jugo recién exprimido y una porción de pastel. Me alegro de no haber revisado las reseñas antes de visitar, ¡nos lo habríamos perdido!

Friendly café with delicious hot chocolate, coffee and cakes. Good place to meet friends and have a natter. Handily close to the No88 bus route.

Why all the negative reviews? We have been coming regularly for years and know the staff well. Several commute from S.London to work here. Usually everything is friendly and good service. It can be stretched on an unexpected Sunny day when all the weekenders want to be served immeadiately at the lovely outside tables. Food is goodand is not overpriced if you order well and enjoy the ambiance. It is a lovely place.

My girlfriend and I both had eggs on toasts. I make way better eggs on toast than this place so next time I will stay home. Very pain presentation and hard, overtoasted bread. Staff is also not the nicest. Coffee is good though.

Éramos 4 y la comida que tuvimos fue muy sabrosa y agradable. La cantidad podría ser más teniendo en cuenta el precio. Tal vez una ensalada adicional al lado de los paninis y meze. Realmente no te molestes con este lugar. Desayuné por 10. 95 - porciones muy malas - 2 huevos, 1 loncha de tocino, 1 salchicha, frijoles, algunos hongos secos, tomate incinerado y tostadas. ¡Qué estafa servida por un camarero que te trata con desprecio! Evite, obviamente, hacerlo bien al rasgarlo, ya que se están expandiendo al lado.

Opposite an entrance to Hampstead Heath Kalendar is one of the best cafe restaurants around. Breakfast lunch dinner coffee juice tea. It’s caters to everything and does it extremely well. I’ve been going for years. And won’t stop.

Kids pasta, one ball ice cream, one apple juice. OVER £10.00!!! Lovely.

We visited this cafe many times when it was Cafe Mozart....and have been a couple oftimes recently. It’s in a very good location with many tables outside. The food is OK,but overpriced....the cheesecake is excellent....but again, expensive. BUT.....the staffare completely uncharming...almost to the point of rudeness. Looking at the other reviews, this criticism has been repeated again and again....do the owners not read them? Surely they should change their staff. When I went in to pay my bill inside, thewoman behind the counter who took my credit card did not look at me once while she carried out the transaction....and when, handing me my card back, didn’t say ‘thank you’ or ANYTHING! The location is the attraction....but on reading other reviews, it would seem you can have the same location at GALES, where you get a warmer reception. We’ll head there next time.

Met friend for lunch today which used to be my local Cafe Mozart now Kalendar & was disgusted by the food & in particular the utter rudeness & contempt of the owner & staff. Aggressive manner when guest complained that the 2poached was hard boiled eggs that came without toast (menu said with) in which my guest then mentioned (asked for soft) he argued with us to the point that I requested bill immediately. Shameful attitude towards customers & suggest not to waste ur time & ££ at this horrid cafe. Avoid at all costs!!!

La primera vez que visitamos el Café Kalendar (CK) Después de un agradable paseo por el Heath en un frío día de mayo (sábado), el CK parecía invitar a una bebida caliente y un pedazo de pastel. Estaba bastante vacío, así que no tuvimos problemas para encontrar una mesa para cuatro. Nos sentamos a la espera de que alguien tomara nuestro pedido, después de unos 15 minutos, mi hijo señaló que tal vez teníamos que ir al mostrador para hacer el pedido, por lo que se fue al pedido solo para que le dijeran (sarcásticamente) si regresaba a la mesa. ¡Se tomaría el orden! ! todos decidimos dejar de lado el pastel, ya que los pasteles estaban en el mostrador y no cubiertos - (básicamente personas que respiraban sobre ellos) nuestra orden fue tomada, 4 bebidas calientes demasiado caras.

I used to love Cafe Kalender: I used to have breakfast here every week when I lived nearby. I took my family back today and was hugely disappointed.

Ordering a drink or food (I have not done food, yet) gives an opportunity to sit down and think about things. This is nice as you are able to enjoy what you have ordered.

La comida estaba parada., 1 pequeña salchicha y 1 trozo de tocino tanto cruda, juro el beso de la vida que le hubiera ahorrado, 1 pasada hongos y dos huevos escalfados con las yemas duras. . The mushroom soup was mediocre, though the bread was nice. However, the staff allowed me to come in, peruse the menu, order and take a seat before they bothered to tell me that my well behaved Dachshund cross wasn't welcome inside. I was forced to go and sit on the outside seats in the rain (it was covered, but still cold). The dog bowls, lack of a no dogs sign, and hearing locally that it was a dog friendly cafe all made me believe that both me and Charlie would be welcome. I have no idea why they are happy to let small children in who throw food on the floor (I saw it happen) but not dogs who just want to snooze under the table. It seems a distinct oversight when you're only moments away from Hampstead Heath. We won't be back.

The manager was so rude to us we left the restaurant without even picking up or order, even though we had already paid. Disgusting service. I hope it closes down.

I chose the Superfood Salad - it was tasteless the quinoa had no flavour, the kale and broccoli needed to be smaller - there was no taste of sesame flavouring in the dressing as described on the menu. The rye bread was the only saviour.

My local always pop in for a lovely coffee and cake after the school run. Lovely friendly staff and great atmosphere, children welcome and dog friendly

I really dont know why I go to Kalendar. Every single time I visit the staff are so rude. The lady serving behind the counter this morning is the rudest yet. The coffee and food are substandard. Do yourself a favour and go to Bistro Laz just down th road. Better food and coffee and staff are more polite. Kalendar you have lost yourself a customer.

We dropped in for coffee while in the area and first impressions were good. The place was buzzing, their pastries looked inviting and we took the last table. However, the waiter had difficulty making out our orders and seemed to think he was doing us a favour. The fresh juices were delicious and while the almond croissant looked amazing, it was soggy. I wouldn't rush to go back, there are other good coffee shops around who might appreciate their customers more.

Fui con un amigo y pedimos un mezze vegetariano y un plato de la pizarra diaria descrito como una espárragos y guisantes frittata con queso de cabra. La frittata - Italiano para fritos en realidad era horneado en el horno y contenía una pequeña espárragos, unos guisantes un montón de zanahorias (que lo hizo lucir colorido cuando cortan), pero no un tufillo de queso de cabra y muy soso. El mezze era bastante normal, la blobs del habitual de hummus, tzaziki, baba ganoush y 4 rebanadas muy duro de halloumi pero mucho de aceitunas y piezas de pan de pita. Ambos platos eran de £9. 95 cada uno y los dos estuvimos de acuerdo que era bastante mala relación. Es probablemente un 'cafetería de barrio y la gente mucho frecuentado por, afortunadamente yo no vivo en el barrio, así que no tendría razón para volver. A lovely place for a coffee or an easy lunch. It typucally attracts a slow crowd; which makes it double joy.

I ordered a simple ham and tomato omelette with chips. Having waited 30 minutes I asked the waiter when the food was coming, to be told they hadn't put the order in. I then waited another 15 minutes and then had to go to meet friends. Having sat for 45 minutes I received no food. When I told the waiter that the service had been terrible, he replied "Ok", and walked off. I would not recommend anyone visit this place, no food and terrible customer service.

Stopped here for a coffee and cake. This is a lovely part of London next to Parliament Hill Fields so Kalendar is very popular with families and dog walkers after enjoying a walk on Hampstead Heath. It's even better if you can sit outside where the friendly staff will serve you.

I go regularly to Kalendar for morning tea or coffee, and enjoy meeting friends for brunch there. The brunch is very versatile as you can add different sides to custom make your meal which ends up being cheaper. Ive had nice dinners there too, portions are ample and prices reasonable. Its a very popular comfortable local place.

Good independent food outlet with quality ingredients

Very fast service, food was lovely. Couldn't fault anything. Will definitely be coming back!! Coffee was spot on, the smoothie was made with lovely fresh fruit. I like the DIY breakfast option. Poached egg nice and runny! Exactly how I like it.

This restaurant serves excellent food and the menu changes and has daily specials. Unfortunately the downside is that the staff are a bit grumpy. If you can ignore that then you can have a very nice meal. Good place to go after a long walk on Hampstead Heath.

My husband and I visit Kalendar most weekends for coffee and sometimes we go there for brunch. The frequency of our visits is testament to how much we like it and enjoy our lazy weekend visits. The breakfast/brunch options are very good and usually the service is excellent despite the fact that on a sunny day, it can get very busy! It is very pleasant to sit outside even in the winter and if the sun is out at around midday, it is an amazing sun trap. I always try to find the "seat in the sun" and it gives me particular pleasure to sip my hot spicy apple juice and read the Sunday newspapers.

Good hygge in this cafe. Charming local place with a good range of hot and cold drinks (great smoothies) and cakes. They also do food which is not exceptional but makes for a nice lunch with friends after a walk on parliament hill. Service could be improved but inoffensive. Not good for gluten free options but lots of veggies. Mid price.

This place is as good as ever! Great atmosphere as always, and super brunch selection. Everything prepared beautifully with high quality ingredients, and nicely presented. Service from the overseas staff was friendly and efficient, but one of the home-grown staff gave the impression that she was above cafe work, and was without the obliging approach of her colleagues. A small blemish on an otherwise first-class experience.

Drove here today from Wales to meet some friends for lunch! The staff were so friendly and really did provide service with a smile! They were all friendly and very welcoming!! Despite it being November, we chose to sit outside, the space heaters kept us nice and warm!! 2 menus to choose from and a great selection on both very reasonably priced. The food was totally excellent, bursting with flavour, presented well and a joy to eat! Good wine selection, we did opt for the house red in fact & this turned out to be a really good choice. Everything was fresh and excellent quality and very good portion size. At no point were we rushed to leave or choose from the menu, the staff were happy to wait until we were ready. Everything was served at our pace!! The setting is excellent, found a parking space outside with out a problem the seating inside is spacious and nobody is crowded on top of each other. As I mentioned we chose to sit outside, the heaters discretely placed under the canopy provided a comfortable warmth for our visit!! A great place to eat with honest flavourful food at great prices!!!

I visited here again for a late Saturday brunch and had the most delicious french toast with bananas...the brioche was thick and juicy, I ordered extra berry compote and the whole thing was sumptious and wonderful. Service was helpful and speedy and coffee was great. I thoroughly recommend the brunch menu!!

Used to have great Austrian cakes. Not any more. But where can you get elderly widow Viennese cake-makers these days? It's a problem.

Alright food, overpriced but to be expected given the location - for the price paid though would have expected a bit of salad to appear alongside the sandwiches. Waiting staff all pretty miserable, totally lacking in atmosphere. Good location

After a walk over Hampstead Heath, there's no better place to end up than Kalendar for breakfast. Indeed, the only way I can persuade my husband to go for a walk at all is by promising to buy him a full English. Only the bribe of buying him a breakfast can get him out on his feet. All the ingredients are of excellent quality, particularly the tasty mushrooms. Eggs are cooked to perfection and it's excellent value for money. If you want a real treat you can't do better. Dog walkers can sit in comfort outside and there's far more on the menu than just the all-day breakfast. It's good for lunch, tea and snacks and it's regular customers are a testament to it's value.Near the heath, Parliament Hill and Highgate cemetery - you won't be disappointed

Just had yummy birthday breakfast with friends great bacon and eggs good coffee and service this may have to be a more regular engagement so much better than Kenwood Cafe will have to reroute our walks on Heath

Such a disappointment. I have been going to Kalendar for many years and used to love it. But these days they just don't seem to be bothered about the quality of the food, it's so hit and miss. The pizza was stodgy and undercooked. The moussaka was a pile of potatoes. The soup is too salty. The breakfasts are ok but better next door. Some of the cakes are nice. It's such a shame. Kalendar has the prime spot and is super busy when the weather is good, but all the other cafes round there have better food. Stick to the coffee and cake or halloumi salad. If you want anything else, go elsewhere.

This is a consistently good local place. Lots of outside seating and inside is a cosy wooden unhurried ambience with many locals. Good crowd. I've seen famous writers and actors here. Newspapers also. We love it here. The menu is varied and satisfying from Breakfast to snacks to Meals. The cooking quality is consistently very good. I can understand that when the sun comes out it can suddenly get very busy andcould be overwhelmed. Problem is that new visitors do not understand just how busy this area can get on a good day -what with the Heath, Lauderdale House and Cemetery nearby. The opening of a GAILS 3 doors away seems to have suddenly bought some negative reviews of Kalendar - or am I just being paranoid?(btw do visit Louis Pattisserie in Hampstead -when he retires it will close down)

We have been to calendar many times for brunch and have slowly watched the quality of the food products deteriorate. There point of difference a few years ago was that they were using local produce, the sausages were from the butcher which used to be next door and the quality of the other products were just good. Now they have reduced the quality of the food products, definitely cheaper but they haven't been bothered to compensate with maybe better service and certainly haven't reflected the poor quality in the price. Also after eating their sausage and mash potatoes on another occasion my daughter and i had a bad stomach!

Eggs toast sausage tomato mushroom and beans served just as expected with a nice cup of flat white. Pleasant service in an open and clean atmosphere wih a large front patio for nice weather dining.

Knowing Kalebdar from before we were very disappointed by our visit and meal.We were a large group and it looked like the staff was not happy about that (I think most restaurants welcome clients).Food took more than 45 minutes to arrive. Staff were not sympathetic and didn't try to bring the kids food faster.My wife and I ordered the stake sandwich on jebata. simple, right? First we were told after 30 minutes they ran out or relish (???). We got the food after 55 minutes (not with the rest). I only got it on bread ("we ran out of jebata" ???). Don't know how a respectable place gives his client two slices of bread with an over cooked piece of meat, arugula leaves and nothing else. Does the chef have no self respect? Does the management think that is "fine"? Not even mayonnaise?And another thing. I've been with my kids in many restaurants. Only the very cheapest and low range of the market will serve a children's meal on an IKEA plastic plate. That is disrespectful in a place like this. And their portions were small even for children: two fish fingers and 10 chips with a bit of peas? Come on.Shame to see how a place in such a great location has lost its (simple) way.

We went to this cafe for brunch and were very disappoiinted with the food. We had waited a long time for our food and when it came it was cold, so we told the waitress. She was fine and took the food away. It was returned to us..the same food slightly warmer five minutes later. It has either been placed in the oven or under some lights for 5 mins but either way it was not good. It's a shame as the position is nice. The place is obviously busy and so I think they don't care about the standard!!!
