Kafenion in Birmingham

I visited this cafe today and found the staff rude and unhelpful I ordered 2 dishes shashuka and one for my friend I was told there was no feta for my order and my friend's order was sold out I was told in a very condensing manner I had come after twelve o'clock like I should know this should be stated on the menu in addition there was a male waiter who kept asking me to move but didn't ask the others who were queuing has anybody in this cafe heard of customer service it's a clear no from me me

We popped in for brunch last Sunday - the food was fab when it EVENTUALLY came but the service was awful. We ordered two of the grills and two hot drinks. Our drinks came pretty sharpish but after 25 minutes we started to wonder where the food was. The couple on the table next to us had theirs and they arrived a good 10 mins after us. We flagged down a waitress who never apologized for the wait but chased up our food - "it's being plated up now"....20 minutes later we still didn't have our food. We flagged someone else down who immediately just said "well it's busy isn't it", not busy enough to stand and gossip round the coffee machine. We mentioned our drinks were long gone at this point and we were just getting annoyed. A further 10 minutes later and our food finally arrived, (55 minutes after we ordered), the lady didn't even speak to us. No apologies, no 'do you need anything else', 'any more drinks'. Nothing. Noone checked back on us and when we left, no one would make eye contact. The food was absolutely delightful - it's just a shame I won't be back due to inpolite and rude staff members. I fully understand mistakes happen and orders do get lost but manners do go a long way and an apology and/or even the offer of even a tap water would have made the situation a lot more pleasant.

Realmente no sé de lo que algunas personas están hablando en sus críticas negativas. Tranquilícese - Kafenion es un lugar encantador, amable y eficiente, la comida es genial (con varios platos griegos) y los precios son razonables. Es muy popular entre los lugareños - a la hora del almuerzo verás a padres e hijos, perros - paseantes, gente de negocios teniendo reuniones improvisadas, familias saliendo a caminar y un placer, etc. Kafenion fue maravilloso durante la pandemia, sirviendo comida desde su puerta principal a los clientes que luego se sentaron con sus alimentos y bebidas en el verde del pueblo de enfrente. La única desventaja posible es que puede abarrotarse, pero hay una razón para eso: la gente sabe que es un gran lugar para ir. Hay mesas afuera durante todo el año, y en el verano hay un "jardín secreto" en la parte posterior, a la sombra de algunos árboles.

It is a vibrant destination and quite popular based on my frequent visits. You might need to wait for seating at various times, though. A great 'chatterbox' place if you're looking for an 'any time' meeting with friends. Good for light bites. Recommended . Tony

I don’t doubt this is a lovely, local, very popular cafe. I visited here for some cake to take away. I purchased 3 gluten free sponge cakes and was floored when the price came out at £12.40! If they had been really fancy, ingredient rich cakes I could have understood. I don’t usually leave reviews but this a rip off!

Only had a hot chocolate which was nice. Service excellent.

Gorgeous brunch. We had the Belgian Waffles with Bacon/Syrup, and Breakfast Bun with Sausage, we both had hashbrowns on the side which were phenomenal. Coffee is great, quick service, friendly staff.

Love this place. We don't get there as much as I'd like. Food is fantastic, and great choices for everyone, including us vegetarians, coffee is divine. Would reccomend Kafenion to anyone and everyone. Prices are very good too.

If you like dogs this is your place. Like snacking at a dogs home. Lots snd lots of people with dogs talking to each other loudly about each others dogs.

We love our weekly breakfast at Kafenion, lovely food and coffee, friendly staff. Shame the moms mafia feel the need to rearrange the furniture when they turn up, I wonder if they replace it when they leave?

Siempre vaya aquí cuando visite la zona, ya sea que desee solo un café o una comida completa, el servicio es amable y la comida deliciosa. Siempre ocupado, lo que significa que a veces el servicio puede ser un poco lento, pero vale la pena esperar.

Quirky/trendy little place. Nice food and hot drink selection. But sourdough seems to be only bread available and I'm not keen on it.

Fantastic food, a great brunch option local to Bournville. Lovely Greek twist to it too. Service let's it down however. We have been multiple times and if you're say in a table of 3, each person's food will come upto 5 minutes apart. Recently had a order mix up and after being told the replacement was 5-10mins away, we eventually got a refund after over 15mins of waiting, without any offer to rectify the issue initially and then after the long wait. Hope it improves as its a great brunch spot and a star of the shops on Sycamore.

Leanne was great and polite even after serving me a bent crossiant whi h was delicious warm welcoming cafe 😋 will be back again .

Lovely people staff and good service. Whilst very busy, they let you wait outside for takeaway which means you're not stuck in the business. The coffee is really good.

A place where everyone is welcome: dogs, small children, parents, groups of pensioners and single breakfast guests. I was alone there and felt very comfortable.

Always an excellent little coffee shop to visit, set in an excellent location. The staff are always friendly and provide good service.

Kafenion is a cozy cafe with a wonderful atmosphere, perfect for enjoying coffee and catching up with friends. We had breakfast there, and everything was absolutely delicious. One of the drinks we ordered was a bit too strong for our taste, but the staff were incredibly kind and happily offered to change it. We were really impressed with the experience and can’t wait to visit this charming cafe again soon!

Cute little place, very modern with an old touch to it. Super friendly and the most important was the coffee (freddo cappuccino) was spot on.! Highly recommended. And this is coming from a Greek. Spanakopita was alright, good flavour but nothing special. I would recommend this to quite a few Greeks.

Delightful indy cafe. Really lovely space. Three of us had lunch followed by coffee and cake. Everything we ate was delicious. Very highly recommended. Updated Sept 24: another fabulous lunch today - the standards of food and service are definitely still superb.

Excelente ubicación y podría ser un pequeño café fantástico, pero el personal es muy lento, es extremadamente caro y sobre todo absolutamente sucio por dentro. Probablemente no me he dado cuenta tanto en el pasado como me he sentado afuera, pero haciendo cola para ordenar este fin de semana tuve que salir ya que el suelo en tierra por todas partes es asqueroso, especialmente cuando veo en la cocina. No estoy seguro de cómo han pasado las inspecciones de higiene.

Agradable entorno Bournville. Elementos de menú promedio no extensos pero muy caros. Puedes comer a precios londinenses aquí sin la tarifa de pago londinense

Really good 👍 We don't come to Bournville very often and we tried the cafe a few doors down last time and were sorely disappointed But Kafenion is completely the opposite, the coffee is really good (service was slow but it was busy) the treats were also really good and the quality of the service was second to none Really nice inside and lots of tables outside 👍 Recommended 😁

Ordered online, waited over 30mins, went to enquire where food was and server came over laughed and said "oh it might not be working" poor service. *sighs*

Finally a delicious oat flat white in the area. Great friendly service and smashing decor. Only complaint would be the toilet needs some handyman affection.

I came in to work from my laptop.. The vibes are lovely; it was busy but not too busy that you can't get a seat. The coffee is some of the best I've had in a long time! I'll definitely come back to try out the food - I didn't have any today but everyone else's looked amazing. Friendly staff, cosy vibes and great coffee!

Love this place. Ordered via QR code at the table and unfortunately there was a problem with the system which meant that they hadn’t received our order and we waited for quite a while. Staff dealt with it appropriately and efficiently, order came quickly thereafter and everything was amazing. This place is even more stunning when it’s sunny and you’re seated outside. Couldn’t recommend enough.

What a little gem this place is. Food is excellent, staff very helpful, professional and polite. The cafe is very clean. As with all other cafe, restaurants etc the prices have gone up but the food is well worth the price and all cooked fresh. Highly recommend a visit if you are in Bournville.

Vegan sausage and 1 mushroom bap. Maybe a good idea to cut the sausages, so they fit the entire bap?! Chicken souvaiki wasn't particularly tasty. It came with a smidge of tzatziki on there. When we asked for some more, we were charged an additional pound. Cappuccino was lovely, i ordered a large one... and it was huge. The tea not as tasty! Wont be going back again.

¿Qué le ha pasado a Kafeneon? Solía ser increíble - uno de mis absolutamente favoritos - gran relación calidad-precio, gran personal. Sin embargo, han estado cada vez más decepcionados con su comida en las últimas tres visitas. Porciones pequeñas generalmente frías y realmente no están a la altura de los estándares anteriores. En la última visita estaba extremadamente decepcionado - pero el servicio era brusco y hostigado, mi era minúscula porción de huevos “escalfados” mal cocidos (translúcidos) apilados con yogur helado y servidos con una ración de pan en tiempo de guerra era horrible. Qué estafa absoluta. No me importa pagar casi £ 10 por un plato de comida para el almuerzo si es bueno y me llena, pero para esta porción de tamaño y el mal nivel, sus precios son exorbitantes. Vi a un cliente volver a pedir un segundo plato porque todavía estaban hambrientos después del primero (deben tener más dinero que yo!). Si vuelvo me quedaré con el café y el pastel y espero que estos sigan siendo del nivel extremadamente alto que siempre solían ser.

En un día caluroso, no encontramos mesas disponibles al aire libre debido a la popularidad del lugar, pero había un montón de espacios en el interior. El menú, aunque limitado, ofrece buenas opciones, especialmente si eres fanático de los tés y cafés. No te pierdas la deliciosa variedad de pasteles en el mostrador. Pedir en el mostrador fue eficiente, y la comida llegó rápidamente a nuestra mesa. La calidad de los platos fue excelente, con ingredientes frescos. El único hipo menor eran los cuchillos, que luchaban con la corteza de masa madre. Sin embargo, con un poco de cuidado, no fue un problema significativo. En general, fue una experiencia positiva, y teniendo en cuenta que era solo un 8 % más caro que una simple comida fría en sándwich en el centro de jardinería al otro lado de la carretera, por lo que nos pareció una buena relación calidad-precio aquí.

A busy lively cafe, serving drinks, cakes and light meals. Table service for your coffee, which can take a few minutes if they are busy. They also have tables outside. Barrel of water to help yourself. Only 1 toilet

Lovely cafe with seating in 2 rooms inside, some outside at the front of the cafe & some in the beautiful garden at the rear when the weather is dry. Food is excellent with service to the tables after paying at the till. Staff are very friendly & very busy each time I visited. The cafe is situated at one end of a row of shops round the edge of Bournville Green which is very picturesque.

I decided to check this place out after a long walk. I tried out the mocha and it was gorgeous! The place looked very nice and I would definitely come there again.

Beautiful cafe, wonderful location just on the green. The breakfast is quite pricey but you do pay for what you get. The sausages in particular are extremely tasty. Looking forward to the garden area to the back opening also.

A classic English brunch restaurant, with a vintage atmosphere. The menu is not very extensive but with quite different dishes, prices in line with the market, the food is very well prepared, I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken (£17) it had a considerable amount of chicken, and the rest of the vegetables were very fresh The only bad thing was that the onion was very thick and strong. Clean restaurant, common bathroom, but clean.

Delicious high quality ingredients, a great breakfast, one of the best in South Brum. Would be even better if they didn’t charge an extra 30p for decaf coffee mind but that’s a minor detail. Recommend 10/10z

Good breakfast and the food looks appetising!

Love the atmosphere at this cafe, it always feels full but always can find a space to sit. The drinks selection is great, loving their honey lemon tea at the moment. Food is quality too with decent portion sizes, you won't leave hungry.

Coffee and huge cobwebs do not mix, and when you have informed the staff and nothing is done, means I will never visit again. Very overpriced coffee, especially for a small americano and swap the milk for soya and charged an extra 40p which meant £4.20 for a small cup that was luke warm is disgusting. Shame cause its really quirky inside.

A greek based cafe on the green at bourneville next to Cadbury world. Very popular with the locals , very busy but well worth a visit

Great food and coffee. Very tricky to find seating at lunchtime on a Saturday. Often have to hang around and wait for someone to leave. You'll also see people in the same seats for hours at a time, inconsiderate sadly

Food was really good ,service was fast and friendly and genuine.i had the kafenion breakfast and my son had bacon and brioche and fries(no judgement,it's holiday:) I had the turmeric ginger coco latte and he had a branded lemonade.Hadnt been in a while but was as good as ever. Definitely return more often again.

The food was very nice here it was hot and tasty full English. I also had a hot chocolate, which was warm. Found eatery was cold as the door was opening all the time, heating wasn't very good, this put a slight dampener on my visit. Staff was helpful and polite.

Popular café in unique suburb of Birmingham that retains a village feel. Excellent all day brunches, especially the shakshouka. Coffee is absolutely wonderful. If you are anywhere near here, stop and enjoy.

Very full English, homemade beans so good. Vegan option was amazing (no cardboard sausages!) and great staff. Well worth the price!

Great coffee and thank god they're open on Mondays as a lot of good coffee places close on a Monday. This place has full opening hours which is rare these days.

Lovely visit but Avacodo on toast was meagre and toast was cold and dry, not warm and soft. No orange juice available. Recommend full fry to avoid disappointment!

Love this place. Great food, great service and a cosy atmosphere.

I can’t fault their food but don’t bother if you are a group any larger than 3 who want to have your meal/ coffees onsite. Very tight space indoors, and you are expected to squeeze past tables to order and pay at the counter at the back. We were a group of 10 who wanted to support a local business as our office is nearby, and a nice walk to a late lunch would have been lovely. We tried a number of times to get through on the phone in the day with no answer, eventually stopping by one morning in person to try see if we should book ahead, and was told that we can’t make a reservation, but for a group that size we could come and wait a bit for a few tables to open up. It seemed reasonable however today we finally went to the cafe and were met by surprised looks by the staff at the size of our group and told we can’t sit inside and to sit in the outside area. We arranged the tables ourselves and then when looking for a server to take our order, we were informed can’t open a tab and we have to order upfront at the counter and pay. We were treating our team for a local bite so had to gather our group order ourselves and go to the counter to order and pay. We had also long finished our drinks by the time the food arrived and everyone was put off having to go order and pay again to get more drinks. If we had been allowed to open an bill for the group or sit inside (even at a few separate tables would have been okay) we likely would have spent far more on our bill, multiple drinks and perhaps even cakes per person, but the treatment we received and dismissive attitude put us off and we could not leave fast enough to get out of the cold. Please in future specify a max group number for walk-ins on site and on your website and on google so people are well aware if they haven’t visited you before. And consider bookings even just for a set time of day, or specific days per week, for local groups who may be larger but would still like to come enjoy a low key meal together (on a shared bill!)

I often come to this beautiful cafe. It is a joy that we have this in Bournville! However sometimes, and in particular today, I have come across double and single buggies left in the gangway between tables, thus preventing customers from getting out from their seats! Today, in particular, someone had left a double buggy in front of the counter thus obstructing customer's movement, especially having access to place their order. There was no one beside the buggy and it was unclear what it was doing there. Please can attention be given to this problem - it can be a dangerous hazard for both the elderly and disabled, as well as making for a lot of inconvenience for other customers?

Excellent coffee and cake. This time we had breakfast, so tasty with a quality sausage, bacon and egg. There are tables outside to watch the world go by, and a secret garden out the back with seating too.

Got a sausage brioche. Out came a roll with ONE cold sausage. £6.50. I'm no stingebag but that is just taking the micky. I don't know how staff keep a straight face. Staff friendly though and polite. Food came out fast and they had oat milk. Lovely ambience. Will be back for a coffee and eat elsewhere.

I would happily eat everything on the menu. Choosing was truly difficult - I'll have to go back again to try everything else!

We've been coming for years but unfortunately the quality has reduced significantly. Prices have increased £8.50 for a mushroom toast with no other extras - Mad!

Cafe is amazing for food and especially the coffee, but this place is costly and therefore cannot give it a perfect 5 stars.

Hoped for some hospitality on a quiet morning, especially when you charge 70p for a non dairy milk in a small coffee!
