Julienest in Barking and Dagenham

Food was lovely but having to wait for over 2hrs for my main dish is not acceptable. Managment need to review their processes in place. Music was too loud as a group, we coulnd't even hear eachother speak.

If you're craving authentic Ghanaian food, look no further! The vibrant atmosphere and good vibes truly make this place feel like home away from home. Each dish is packed with flavours and brings back memories of traditional Ghanaian meals. While the service was a bit mediocre during my visit, the delicious food more than made up for it. I can't wait for my next visit to indulge in more of their mouthwatering dishes! Highly recommend for anyone looking to experience the rich flavours of Ghana!

We were not taken to our table by any one. We had to chose our own seats Following this We waited for an hour just for the starter which is quite shocking At one point, I went across to the server who thought that our table had already been attended to We walked out of the restaurant as was not impressed at all If I could rate them -0, its just disappointing as we drove from Kent to experience this poor service which I have heard previously good things about but based on today’s experience I would not recommend this place as they were not busy and yet did not offer any service to the customers and as we walked out no apology whatsoever from any of the staff

I've never a rated a service this low. The only positive thing about this place was the atmosphere (DJ, lighting and the band). The service was absolutely awful, and we will never return here again. I will also never recommend this place to anyone else. We visited there on Mother's day. It was a busier day, but this is no excuse for such poor terrible services. This place needs to put proper professional systems into place to manage a large capacity of people and the staff need adequate waiter & customer service training. It seems as though this place can't handle managing the restaurant as well as handling deliveries at the same time. 1. Prior to arriving, I tried to call the restaurant several times to tell someone beforehand that we were stuck in traffic, but no one answered. What is the point of having a phone if it will not be answered? 2. When we arrived there, nobody was at the door to greet us and let us know where we would be sitting. We had to go and find someone before we could sit down, which isn't right. 3. Nobody came and explained to us how ordering food or drinks work and did not offer to give us the physical menus. 4. I had to get up multiple times throughout our time there as no waiter would come around us for us to be able to ask for help. I had to ask for more napkins at one point as there wasn't enough on our table when we arrived. I also had to get up just to find someone to try and get an update on when our food would be arriving, but no one gave any answers. Staff should have been coming to check on us, keeping us updated, not leaving us sitting there like lost sheep with no understanding of what's going on. 5. We had our elderly grandmother with us whose back started hurting from sitting down for so long which we explained to staff multiple times but nobody cared. No complimentary drinks or snacks offered due to the long wait. No apologies or empathy. 6. At one point, they brought a different table's waake fish meals to our table which stayed there a few minutes. This was 1 hour and half into our wait. We nearly started eating those meals, only for the waiter to come back to pick up those dishes to go and give them to the correct table with no explanation or update on when our food would be arriving. No apologies for their mistake either. 7. We had ordered food around 4pm and food arrived after 6pm. That's over 2 hours of waiting which is absolutely unacceptable. We had all lost our appetites by then and didn't eat much - so we packed most of our food to take home and left. 8. My sister was so upset, her mother's day was ruined as she had to leave the restaurant with her two young girls and had no time to stay and eat as she had things to do. She did not want the food by then, yet they were trying to force her to take the food home instead of apologising for the experience we all had. We didn't go there to order takeaway and wait 2 hours for it. We came to dine-in and have a lovely experience which we were not afforded. I have NEVER waited 2 hours for food in my whole life. Even in Ghana we never experienced such a terrible service. And this Julienest food is nothing extraordinary to have to wait around for. If they do not implement proper efficient systems ASAP, they will be put out of business eventually. They have people waiting around on tables sitting there for 3 and half hours or more. It makes no sense for them as a business. If they were efficient, people could be in and out within 2 hours and then the next group in for 2 hours and so on. Therefore, more money to be made the more bums they get onto the seats! With such poor service, they should consider focus on serving deliveries/ takeaways only! From a NEVER returning customer.

Service was really bad. From the staff, to security, to time management. Food is great but I’d only recommend to go when it is quiet. Staff have no training of customer service or how to handle a busy service, it was very messy and unorganised getting orders wrong constantly. I saw 2 couples leaving on their FIRST DATE after waiting 2-3 hours and no food was delivered to them. I came to celebrate Mother’s Day and I regret bringing my family here, my brothers were so annoyed and it is so frustrating to get attention from the staff because there was hardly any available. Juliernest I love your food and your place but please this needs to chance.

I ordered Waakye and Kebab. After waiting 50 mins to be seated, I then had to wait 1 hour and 30 mins to get my food. Over 3 hours in total spent! This is my first and last time coming here, avoid!

Very poor service. Staff not friendly and management no where to be found. Toilet dirty and not fit for purpose. The conditions of the female toilet will be reported to environmental health as it is a health and safety issue. We stayed in the restaurant for 3 hours and still didn't get our orders. We paid for £15 parking and sat in the restaurant for 3 hours to be told food is finished. You cannot use the large numbers to be an excuse because that is what you should expect as a business. What would have happened if patrons didn't patronise your service? VERY POOR SERVICE

You can fly to Accra and back, quicker than the service here. Came for Mother’s Day at 3.30, got our food at 7pm. Kelewele ran out, tilapia was drier than my mother’s foot. A huge disappointment. Guinea fowl and tsofi was nice though

Terrible customer service . My friends stood for hours . Sacked from a table . Were asked to put our names on a waiting list and still we weren’t taken care of . I don’t recommend .

I would like to suggest tge toilets be chexked and cleaned every now and then it will be very nice. When its so busy by midnight from.my experience the ladies toilets gets so dirty and no tissues most of the time. Wet tissues on the floor and obviously wet floor as well. Thank you

The banku was really nice with the fish. We had a great meal but service takes way too long. Think they need to hire more staff on Fridays

My experience was tribal I got green soup that is might to come with snails upon opening this at home there was none I call them and they was say oh we did not notice!!what rubbish!!I will be getting my money back form my bank for this scam!!

If I could give 0 stars I promise you I would, we waited 4 hours for our food had we had not already paid via the qr menu ( which we were later told online orders will take even longer) I would have left and never returned. Ghanaian Independence Day celebration and yet your own people are waiting ridiculous hours for food? Not even in Accra would this EVER take place. Not even a sorry or even a here’s a free drink or better yet not even tap water. Photo evidence enclosed friends starter came just after 6pm mine 7pm we ordered just after 4:30pm only got my main at 8:30pm for them to say they run out of gizzard and kitchen is closed

Last Mother’s Day, I took my mother and mother-in-law to Julienest Gardens, and it turned out to be a terrible experience. Despite having a reservation, we waited over an hour to be seated. Once we finally got to our table, our starters arrived relatively quickly, which was the only positive aspect of the visit. However, we then waited more than an hour—almost two—for our main courses. We repeatedly inquired about our order, as it seemed they had forgotten it. We spoke to two different waitstaff who promised to check on our order, but neither returned with an update. When the food eventually arrived, it was disappointing. The waakye was decent, but the okra soup and banku were bland. The tilapia, however, was quite nice. Overall, the disorganization of this restaurant was frustrating. I chose this place based on a glowing review from an influencer, but I will not be returning.

Bloody amazing place, good vibes

We visited Julienest on Friday night, and it was well worth the visit. The atmosphere was great, and the live band added to the experience. Initially, we wanted to try the kelewele and wings, but unfortunately, they weren’t available that evening. Instead, we opted for tsofi, plantain, gizzard, and some pepper on the side. The gizzard and tsofi were delicious, though the plantain was slightly on the hard side.

If you not Ghanaian don't go. It's only catered for Ghanaian people. Music is Ghanaian and any other people are just not welcome. That's what I felt.

The location is good. The place is over crowded, the service wasn't great to my expectations. I ordered fried yam and chofi, it took over an hour for my meal to arrive. Was charged £11 for a bottle of Stella, when one of the attendance was told, he just said, " no , you were not over charged " without even asking me why. The service was very poor . It's a scam. A lot of improvements needed.

Very nice location. Unfortunately, the place gets crowded due to the live band on Friday evenings. I think the staff should have a better control of the crowd. The tables are not well cleaned after use and pieces of food are left on the floor. We waited for 2 hours to receive our food after placing the order. The staff seemed overwhelmed and not professional. The food on the other hand was d great. Tasty and flavourful. I recommend you go there on a less busy day or order a take out.

Takes a while to get your food but when it arrives it’s worth the wait! This is my go to takeaway spot in Barking. If you want to dine in, I highly recommend booking a table on a Friday night as they have live music which creates a vibrant night scene.

Hands down my favourite Ghanaian restaurant in the UK! I have been going to Julienest for years and spent many special occasions here including the meal after my registry wedding. The food is authentic, consistently good flavours, always comes piping hot and comes out quickly (contrary to bad experiences I’ve had at other Ghanaian restaurants). I sometimes treat myself to a takeaway when I can’t be bothered to cook. My go-to’s are Waakye, Banku & Okro soup or Omotuo. Their Akonfem is lovely. Their kebab is also very tender and succulent, but quite spicy. The decor is very nice, Afrocentric and welcoming. They have good music (sometimes a DJ) and sometimes a live band on Fridays and Sundays. Can get very busy and crowded on Sundays.

IMAGINE 2:03AM A LADY HAZ AORDERED KEBAB & HAS GOT BUT THE KITCHEN IS CLOSED REALLY KMT

The food itself was tasty however this place needs to be closed down and staff need to be trained or the business model needs to be updated. It took 45 mins for my food to come (unacceptable) for takeaway and I had to keep going in and out to check if it was ready. There should be a dedicated staff member dealing with orders. I then drove off home, ready to enjoy my food only to find out that I was given the wrong order (meat instead of fish). I was so annoyed (this was 9 something in the evening) and had to go back hoping that I would be taken seriously. All I was offered was the correct order. No apology. No explanation. No refund and no gesture of goodwill considering all the wasted resources in just trying to buy an ordinary meal (time, petrol). I explained to the lady who took my order all of this and she just shrugged her shoulders. Please avoid this place for the simple fact that the customer service is poor and giving someone the wrong order could cause issues such as allergies.

So many things went wrong. 1. Our guests could not be seated until the whole group had arrived. 2. The service was slow, sloppy & the waiters all seemed overworked, overwhelmed & miserable. 3. They forgot orders, served our drinks in red plastic cups and one of our guests received his mains 15 minutes after we all got our food. 4. The tilapia was extremely over cooked, their meat platter had only chilli on it -no real taste. The unfortunate situation is that the person who’s food came 15mins later is also the one that had the worst RedRed (plantain & beans) - it was disgusting. There was not even palm oil in the beans and it was bitter. 5. The floor manager agued with us about either returning the RedRed of refunding it - rude and aggressive management. 6. OVERPRICED!!! For the low quality of food and ingredients, crappy location, shabby service and ghetto toilets. The live band started around 10 instead of 8pm 💀

This was my first time eating at a Ghanaian restaurant, so my expectation was very high! The staff member did not welcome me and my partner. We then sat at the table, met by a miserable waiter. To make matters worse the restaurant was freezing which affected our whole experience. This also impacted on the foods temperature, turning the food cold quickly. We ordered chicken wings starters and for mains jollof rice, kebab, plantain coleslaw with shito at the side. The food was tasty but again food's temperature was not hot. I suggest that the establishment should really look into heating the dining area, especially the weather being very cold. The restaurant has a lot of potential but the service and freezing temperature was a disappointment. I hope they can sort this out.

This place did not meet my expectations! I got there around 7pm. Unfortunately the food was not fresh and the waiters were not very friendly or accommodating! Only 1 waitress was fiendly. Went on a friday night so got to see the live band, they were so good.

Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant!!!! firstly the music is so loud that the staff can’t hear you much less can you hear anybody at your table. They took 20 minutes to come and take the drinks order and 30 minutes to bring the drinks was told twice that they had no Ghanaian Fanta when they did They just didn’t want to go and get it from their front bar. I didn’t get to try the food because after waiting two hours, they still hadn’t brought out our order when we complained, they argued with us and tried to keep the birthday cake hostage wrestling me for the bag that the cake was in. They made the birthday girl cry on her birthday because they ruined her celebration and entire night and Instead of apologising for the poor service they wanted to argue with all six women, the male manager got a very Confrontational and aggressive rather than apologise and comp the £40 worth of drinks that we actually did receive They insisted that we pay and were very very rude. I could honestly say looking around that nobody actually seemed that impressed and most people weren’t eating. I would never ever recommend this place to anyone and I definitely will not be returning.

Mostly delicious and spicy African meals at a reasonable price.

I really enjoyed the meal and had visited several times. Very friendly staff and good setting in terms of seating arrangements though not enough space. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy good Ghanaian cuisine 👍

I and my partner ordered for banku and tilapia(dined in) and ordered for Jollof rice and meat for takeaway and they took forever to give us the Jollof rice and on top of that they did not add the meat we requested for and when we asked for a refund they disregarded it and have not made any compensation, I must say the customer service is appalling.

Worst Ghanaian restaurant I’ve been too. Management are rude and inattentive. They brought out our starters and mains at the same time and got angry when we asked them to take the mains back. If you sit inside, the music is so loud you can’t hear yourself think. The food is basic and overly spicy for no reason. We asked for a shot of rum, they brought the shots out in full size glasses. Clearly they need basic training in restaurant etiquette. Avoid !!!!

Great restaurant, but their food takes long

First time eating Ghanaian food and it was a great experience! We ordered the jollof rice with chicken, nkatenkwan and palm wine. The staff was great and fellow patrons were super friendly too. When our food came the table beside us could see we were new to the cuisine and helped us out! Live music really added to the atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

I had very terrible experience at this restaurant yesterday with the food when I visited.I had some banku and okra stew and grilled tilapia with some sauce on it. The Tilapia seems ok but the sauce on it has gone off and complained to one of the bar attendants to tell the manager. The manager didn’t even come to our table to apologise and nobody said anything to me which I found a bit strange but just kept my cool. I’ve had food poisoning this morning and my stomach is so hurting.which isn’t cool at all.

Atomsphere was lit !!!!!! Observed the lady serving at the counter last Fri was friendlier to males than females .The gentleman serving with her seemed irritated and flustered .

I visited for my second time and unfortunately was hugely disappointed. There were so many issues - I had to wait one hour to get my food - and this was even the main (although I ordered a starter). Then had to wait another 40 minutes for the other 2 mains (and this was only after speaking to the staff several times). The food was okay but one of the orders was also wrong. If was difficult to voice these concerns, especially as the music was very very loud and it seemed as though there were not enough staff.

The staff was so busy forgot orders and added extra items on the bill I understand busy times but the food took over 2 hours to come and when it finally did it was cold. The kebab was undercooked. The meat on the stews were burnt, plenty cooking oil on the beans( which I was surprised was not palm oil) ,yam oily and the fish a bit plain

I have been there twice recently. I ordered fish on both occasion. The presentation was good. Food was nice but the fish was very dry and hard on both occasion . I told the person who serve us when we were leaving.

My first time going to Julienest with my mum. We had such a great experience!! The food was absolutely amazing and the service was on point!!

The food was nice and authentic but the wait time was just ridiculous; Wait to be seated, wait to get food and drinks. The staff were nice enough but if the wait for a table is 2 hours (even though we were promised 30 minutes) I just expect transparency. If they said 2 hours I would not have been upset with my extended wait time. Even when seated the food took more than an hour to come out. I arrived at 6 and did not leave until after 10. Very delicious food very poor customer service

Visited this restaurant some days ago. The exterior could do with some work to tidy it up and maybe some lightwork landscaping. The inside didn't captivate me enough, to be honest. It was a bit too dark and dingy for me. To the food. It was my first time eating Ghanaian jollof. It was tasty, but it was sticky, but maybe that's the Ghanaian style. My tempura prawns were nice. The salad was crunchy and nice. I found the toilet to be unpleasant. The toilet roll holders in the toilets seemed broken. The 2 toilets didn't seem clean. Thankfully, I only needed some tissue. Generally, I think some more work need to be done aestheticly to make the atmosphere appealing, but the food was ok.

What a Jewel in the the centre of Barking. Such a friendly welcome. We were treated like Royalty. We highly recommend before a show at the Broadway Theatre.

Exceptional restaurant! Highly suggest it for Ghanaian cuisine and entertainment. The service is outstanding, with incredibly polite and friendly waitresses. It's a truly enjoyable and exciting experience, and the food is delicious.

Amazing Ghanaian experience in London

29th December after hearing so much hype at Juliefest we visited with 4 friends. Called and was told they can't book tables. Arrived at 8.30pm place was crowded, waiters were rude, drinks arrived an hour later. Place is disorganised. By 10pm our food still had not arrived.. if you were 29 December was a cold night, security guy came and switched off the gas heater next to us so we were sitting in the cold, no food or drinks. Eventually we got so fed up we decided to leave. Owner rude and aggressive demand payment of £80. For food that never arrived, poor service and a health safety fire hazard. Never again I thought I'd patronise my community but I'd been better off going to McDonald's. Please stay away from this horrible place. If you want Ghanaian food try Rhapsody in Watham Cross run by a Achimota ex student. Civised and well run .

Bad customer service Nobody attends to you to even say hello to you

I placed a takeaway order but the restaurant left out some items. I then emailed many times asking to be refunded for the missing items only to be ignored. Very disappointed and not great customer service unfortunately

The food was amazing, the service was excellent and the music so inviting. However we waited 1hr and 30 to be seated and another hour and 20 min to get the food. While the management could do better, the whole experience was great. When we left people were still waiting to be seated. I suppose that when the food just touches your soul and its so affordable it doesn't matter that it's takes a while to reach your table. The wait is worth it. ❤️❤️❤️

Went with my cousins for the all white and all black party hosted by Alordia. Great vibes if you want a taste of Ghana in London. Nice comfortable chairs, nice staff and food. We had their kelewele, kebab and a lot of drinks.

I order rice bal with peanut soup but the soup was like it has been added more water to serve more customer, red stew was around some of the meat, meaning original soup meat was finish.. no taste of spicy, I ask for kids menu and they didn’t have kids menu so I have to order adult meal for my daughter which was too much for her age. Like to chill there but eating there is Noo for me. Bar staff are rude,
