Juke and Loe in Sheffield

We came on a Wednesday to celebrate a birthday. Our second visit to the Kelham Location. It didn't feel too busy or chaotic, a good atmosphere for midweek. The staff were really friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. The food & wine was spot on. Each course was a perfect balance of a classic dish with contemporary flair, it all tasted exceptional. £50 for three courses at this standard is good value.

Visited Juke and Loe for a special dinner and wasn't disappointed. The ambience was cosy, the staff friendly, and the dishes creative. However, one or two courses fell short of perfection. Still, a solid choice for a memorable meal in Sheffield.

Visited the Kelham Island venue on Saturday evening. The old pub was pleasant has lots of seating areas. We all enjoyed the 3 course set menu but all chose differently. The food and flavours were sublime and the hardest part is the choice but all will provide bountiful deliciousness. A lovely appetiser was a scone which was flavoured with local cult source Hendersons Relish. Will be harder to come back knowing what we have already tasted and daring to try something different but must do so soon as should you.

Nice location, pleasant staff, service was prompt, absolutely incredible food. So why only 4 stars? From the moment we entered the front door the smell from the kitchens was overwhelming, not in a pleasant, that smells nice way, just generic kitchen/food smell. As we were seated upstairs near the kitchen the smell was even stronger. Quite off putting by the end of the meal. Never experienced this in any other nice restaurant. Can’t remember the last time I left any restaurant with my clothes smelling like I’d spent the whole night cooking in them.

We visited Juke and Loe this week to celebrate a birthday. It was our first visit to Juke and Loe and we were very impressed with the meal. There were four choices each for starter, main and desert. We both opted for the Venison main course and the meat was beautifully tender. On all the choices the accompanying elements perfectly enhanced the central elements and were both beautifully presented and a delight to our taste buds. The restaurant was quiet as a mid-week evening but we were well hosted by Sasha who was able to answer our queries on what our choices contained and how they would be presented. It makes a big difference when the staff know about the food that is being offered. It demonstrates that there is a commitment to providing a fully satisfying experience. Service was attentive throughout. We would certainly recommend this restaurant and the food demonstrated the restaurant's inclusion in the Michelin Guide.

Juke and Loe is an incredible restaurant, up with the best in Sheffield, without being massively expensive. The restaurant, which used to house the fantastic Milestone restaurant now sadly closed, is relaxed and comfortable. The service was attentive and the food, wine and cocktails amazing. We highly recommend this restaurant.

This is really up there as one of the best places to eat in Sheffield. The food was stunning from start to finish. I had the goats cheese starter followed by the steak with the cottage pie side and the mousse dessert. It was honestly amazing and I cannot wait to go back. The staff were friendly and attentive. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Amazing meal from start to finish. Every course was bursting with flavour. Agnolotti was a lovely starter, and kicked the meal off perfectly. Rump in Bordelaise Sauce was so rich, whilst the oxtail cottage pie on the side was the star of the show, tender pulled beef with the creamiest of mash. The chocolate orange Mille-Feuille was beautiful, so light, and the perfect end to the meal. Will be returning.

Really impressed by the quality of the food and £50 set 3 course menu with bread and amuse bouche seemed like real good value. Will definitely be coming back soon. Only constructive feedback would be about the temperature of the plates, which were cold. The waitress did explain that the chef likes to serve “tepid” food, but we weren’t totally convinced

We visited with friends and had the set dinner. Short menu but enough to satisfy veggie choices. Lovely amuse bouche cheese choux puff. Mixture of most of the menu tried and all very good, quite rich, the veggie mushroom main was exceptional. 3 of 4 of us had the almond / cherry dessert that was ok but not fantastic and needed more than the small amount of cream provided. The worst thing about the experience was that we were sat close to the open kitchen and the clanging kitchen sounds competing with overly loud background music didn’t make for a great ambience. Lastly all our clothes smelt terrible on leaving picking up cooking smells from the kitchen. Would visit again for the food but please close in the kitchen

Excellent three course lunch at a very reasonable price. The beetroot starter was beautiful and delicious as was the cod main course. The waiting staff are charming and attentive. All in all a lovely place for a relaxed and lovely lunch.

Wow… prepare to be underwhelmed. Firstly we were put in the dining room upstairs where there’s an open kitchen, if you like the smell of burning cooking oil in your clothes and your hair then you’ll love this little feature. The service was slow especially considering it would appear the venue was over staffed… there were regularly 3 or 4 staff stood chatting at the top of the stairs. The amuse bouche was pleasant, a pea and mint arancini and the bread and oil was also pleasant. My starter of beetroot and goats cheese was 3 out of 5, nice but no better than other similar dishes at similar establishments. My wife had the octopus and she really enjoyed it. We both had donner kebab risotto for mains… I was blown away with how poor it was. The ‘donner meat’ was like shoe leather, more like biltong or jerky and the risotto was laden with pickled chillis and onion which did not pair well with the creamy risotto… a very I’ll conceived dish, vinegary and incipid, I had to buy rennies on the way home. Last but not least dessert… this was a massive letdown, should have been a nice finish to the meal but both desserts were awful. My wife had the strawberry dessert which was just a wishy washy flavourless, textureless mess. I had the cheese board which I didn’t think you could go wrong with… however it was the dryest plate of food I’ve ever been presented. The cheese was nice, but the fruit cake was dryer than soreen that had been left unwrapped on a window cill over the 6 weeks holidays, there was a small puddle of honey, but nothing fresh, no grapes, apple, chutney… nor any butter for the overly dry and dense fruit cake which was more like a dense bread that left me with a dry claggy mouth. All in all the desserts showed no imagination whatsoever and are typical of chefs who think they are above preparing a decent dessert. Won’t be going again, won’t be recommending it… honestly it was one of the worst meals I’ve had in a restaurant that would class itself as ‘fine dining’

We arrived twenty minutes before our booking and decided to have a pre -meal drink at the bar.The waitress on meet and greet duty met us with a sullen 'your'e very early' and left us with drinks menus but no food menus. Twenty minutes later we had to ask for food menus and a friendly waiter sat us down at a table.The three course menu ( £60 a head) consisted of tiny portions of often very rich food, interspersed with even smaller but fat -soaked tasters and bread. The quality of the food courses was frankly, uneven: first courses of a refreshing beetroot salad and a bland medley decorating the chalk stream (fragment) of trout; second courses of a tasty pair of pigeon breasts paired with overcooked black pudding, and a dish claiming to be Cornish plaice but not recognisable os plaice in flavour or texture; third courses of treacle tart in a good pastry and paltry portions of cheese with dry fruit cake, delicious honey, and dry flat- bread. The high point of the meal came just when we preparing to leave.Diners at the next table recommended another rated Sheffield restaurant serving a similar menu but at twice the food quality for a similar price.Anticipating a response to this review, we note that earlier in their restaurant careers the owners showed some respect for criticism, but recently complaints have been met with blaming the customers. Not a good look.

A really special dining experience. Food presentation is beautiful and the tastes are amazing. I had an octopus and black pudding starter , which sounds weird, but was lovely ( the octopus was soft and delicious rather than tough and chewy) .The main was pork jowl, again wonderful flavours. I normally don't bother with desserts, but the mango parfait was incredible. My only slight gripe was that our table was upstairs, right next to the open kitchen, and on a warm Sheffield night, was uncomfortably hot, no A/C. Very reasonable price IMO for such quality.
