Absolutely exceptional dining experience at Joro. The 10-course tasting menu was outstanding from start to finish - every dish was beautifully presented and packed with complex flavors. I noticed some reviews mentioned overly salty food and loud music, but honestly found neither to be an issue during our visit. The seasoning was perfectly balanced and the atmosphere was just right. Definitely get the drink pairing, their sommelier knocked it out of the park with perfect matches for each course. We added the extra courses, and they were worth every penny. Service was attentive and knowledgeable without being stuffy. Not a single miss in the whole menu. Yes, it's a splurge, but for this level of cooking and creativity, it's absolutely worth it. Already planning our next visit!

Amazing food but the service was a little scattergun in my opinion. Some dishes were introduced in full detail with description then some not so much. Don't let this deter you though, not one bad dish at all!

I very rarely leave a review, but I really have to say something about this place. Every dish was overwhelming. To say ‘salty’ would be an understatement. There wasn’t a single dish I would have again. When challenged the staff we were defensive and not accommodating. I completely understand everyone has different tastes but I would honestly save yourself the money and go somewhere that won’t leave you so disappointed.

A very disappointing experience. The ambience of a cheap nightclub with pumping music. All the dishes were over-seasoned and high in salt. So much so, that by the time the dessert came (also very salty) I couldn't eat it. (When this was mentioned to the staff, they responded by saying they don't use any salt, only ingredients like seaweed or miso - which are high in salt!). There was no subtlety or delicacy in the flavour of the dishes. Everyone's tastes differ, that I accept. But if coming to Jöro please read all the reviews, negative and positive, so you know what to expect. I've been lucky enough to eat in some very high-class restaurants over the years. This isn't one of them. It's rough.

We have visited Joro in the past and have absolutely loved it. We have eaten at many Michelin star restaurants and had many tasting menus, some much better than others. Although the last time we visited Joro I would have put it in my top three. This time, I am sad to say that it is in the bottom three. Normally with a tasting menu you have a stand out dish that you could eat again and again and again. Sadly there was not one dish that I would even want a spoonful of again. We received a warm welcome and the staff could not have been more friendly. The surroundings were nice, just as the last time we visited, although it was incredibly hot in there. The issue was with the food, none of it was very good. The first course actually made me feel a little sick, I thought it was just my taste and that it would get better (on tasting menus there always tends to be a course that is my least favourite). I tried giving that course to my son to eat in addition to his, but he did not like it either, my husband ate his own and ours…. Then the second course, pretty much the same. Same with the third! I know we should have said something, but what can you say? It is not like you have ordered a main meal that is not right and can be changed to another main. They are very specific dishes, you can’t ask for a substitute etc.. so it seemed pointless saying anything and we just hoped that it would get better as time went on, it didn’t. Out of the six courses my son only liked one, same went for me and that was only just a ‘like’. Normally when we get to the dessert course everyone likes it, again I left mine. The foods were very strange tastes, a lot of it was fermented and tasted a bit sour, not in a nice way. The flavour combinations were not great at all. Luckily the portions were so tiny it was ok for my husband to eat what we were leaving. I think if you put all three peoples meals together on a plate for all the six courses you would likely have enough food for one, so it worked out well for him. We do like the small portions normally as the flavours are so full and rich that you only need a little of it… I am so sad to say that we did not enjoy it, as our memory of the place was so good. The meal cost us nearly £300 for the table of three, so a lot of money for only one person to eat. The drinks are not over priced, although we only had one drink each (2 x beer and 1 x Prosecco), but it is good that they are not over inflating the prices of drinks. The staff were welcoming and friendly so I am sorry to leave such a review.

A restaurant in a shipping container may not be what you would expect for the best restaurant in Sheffield. We have been to many Sheffield restaurants and the food served here is at a different level and above what most very good restaurants serve. We had the tasting menu which was extraordinarily good. The only aspect that I thought could be improved is when the waiting staff explain the intricate dishes after they serve them at the table. There is background music and it can be difficult to hear them, especially if the person giving the explanation has an accent and speaks very fast.

We went for our anniversary and loved every minute! The food was sublime and I found myself eating extra slowly to savour each mouthful! Enjoyed the drink pairings too, first time for having sake in place of a wine but very much enjoyed it. Dinner at the chef’s table was an experience in being exposed to the precision of the work being done here. Although hot and in amongst it, the lighting was better than in the other part of the restaurant so I got a good look at each dish. The menu with matching wine was excellent - managed to squeeze in the extra dessert which was worth the abdominal distention risk. Always add the caviar. Wine pairing was thoughtful and included beer which was a nice touch. Remember that the pairing goes all the way through so don’t be tempted to order another glass like I did to go with the latter courses. PS the walk to the premises from town down Snow Street was a real flashback to the 80s Sheffield I grew up in. We walked back to town the long way round. Thanks. Will

Went on Wednesday night at 8.30pm for 20th wedding anniversary. Not disappointed; food, staff, service and atmosphere were all spot on. I hadn’t declared my husband’s allergies (causes rashes not anaphylaxis) before arriving- raw tomato and raw strawberries- usually just pick them out of whatever dish but the restaurant bent over backwards to adjust catering for him- removing a sauce from one dish and delivering a completely different dessert dish. Overall - an excellent meal and would definitely recommend and return.

Sadly we are no longer able to eat at Joro. I fear the lovely enthusiastic team we first met during the challenges of Covid have been kidnapped. If not by aliens, then certainly by the accountants or the lawyers. My attempt to reserve a table for a special family occasion has been met with an uncompromising, unapologetic list of who, what and when they won’t serve. You can only arrive at 2:00/2:15, 5:30/5:45, or 8:15/8:30. So if your boss might want to meet with you at 4.30 don’t bother to even consider coming before 8pm. If your parents don’t want to eat that late then tough. Or the chances are they won’t be able to eat half of it anyway. You can scrap the “Gluten free options” in the Trip Advisor entry. And the “vegetarian friendly” too. The latter is available but you have to book it in advance. Vegan - no chance. The tone of the “please note” is here’s a list of dietary requirements we won’t cater to - if you are still determined to try, send us an email and we may be able to but at our discretion. Not even “we’ll do our best to help”. There are a small number of top restaurants that have this attitude. I’m afraid it comes over as if you’re going to be picky about what you can eat, go somewhere else. And of course we will. We have loved our evenings with the young men who have introduced us to orange wine, Nat Pet and a most amazing barley wine pairing. They coped with the ever changing Covid restrictions with aplomb. But a coeliac is now too much of a burden for them. It’s a sad day.

Can’t comment on the food as we unfortunately didn’t get to go. Partner booked for my birthday and paid a £50 deposit. Due to a flight change, we asked to reschedule and were told we could book back within 6 months. All other dates we wanted - we were told were full and to rebook another £50 would need to be paid. Our deposit was completely lost with no other option of resolution. Disappointing.

Another great trip to JORO. We had the express tasting menu with paired wines. The meal was outstanding , the staff were friendly , helpful and attentive , and the service was excellent . Ok so the Hype is justified, We had the most amazing meal at Joro yesterday. @cheflukefrench and co at Joro have teamed up with their bros @joelll6 at @konjokitchen , to kick out the most incredible elevated Sunday dinner offering. We were seated at the pass so got a full view of the kitchen as food was prepared. Watching the kitchen was so entertaining and the level of professionalism... watching these chefs effortlessly move around each other like a well oiled machine was so impressive. The service is friendly, informal and welcoming. They love to make you feel at home here. The food was just out of this world , and instantly made us say we wanted to book again. 🍞🧄🌿First came out warm @crumb.sheffield sour dough with what I think was a wild garlic butter, and it was like garlic bread on acid. Just so delicious. 🍗🥗🧀Next a starter - a twist on a cesear salad. A wedge of little gem with the most delicious rich Caesar dressing, so good James said he would be prepared to offer sexual favours to the chef for the recipe 🙈😂. It was topped with a deboned crisp chicken wing, crunchy bacon bits and puffed rice and parmesan - I could have eaten this every day and be happy so so good. 🍖🥔🥕 The main event - was a large Sunday dinner, elevated in every aspect. A rolled crisp but juicy slice of pork belly, sausage stuffing, 2 week fermented roast potatoes crunchy with an addictive seasoning, roast parsnip, garlicy greens, cauliflower cheese (omg the sauce 😍), apple sauce, gravy with so much depth I could have drank a bottle, and my fave bit , a rare slice of @randjyorkshiresfinest rump cap beef. The quality was insane , and as the Konjo USP is the cooking over charcoal, much of our food had a delicate and delicious smoky flavour that we absolutely loved. 🍨🍓Dessert was a take on Eaton mess crossed with trifle, strawberry in an ice cream topping style sauce , topped with custard , cream and the highlight an incredible lemon verbena sorbet that was so aromatic and refreshing after a big meal. One of the best things we have eaten in some time, filled us for a whole day,

I’ve eaten at quite a few restaurants including a couple of Michelin stars in just the last year. Make no mistake Jöro blows them out of the water. I’d say my meal on Saturday was the best I’ve had in about five years. It’s probably not for everyone. The Japanese influence has got stronger over the years, but I think over the last year or so (which was the last time I went) it’s been refined down to perfection. Every single course feels like it’s took someone a week to put together. I’m a very competent home cook, but the processes on show here are absolutely mind bending. I couldn’t even guess as to how they managed to come up with some of these recipes. The service was great, the atmosphere is a bit more refined than it was in the first couple of years here with lots more soft furnishing. The music choices - also - excellent. I can’t say anything bad about it. 7 courses, 6 of which blew my socks off. This is without a doubt the best restaurant in Sheffield and i think it may be the best one in Yorkshire. Much better than most Michelin star restaurants I’ve experienced it’s a travesty it doesn’t already have one.

Really impressive modern high-end cooking worthy of a Michelin star IMHO. Top quality from start to finish. Excellent wine choices to match each substantive course. Reasonable price for a wine "flight" too. A seat at the pass gave us an up-close masterclass in plating and also very impressive knife skills. Every dish was beautifully presented with great flavour. My wife's vegetarian alternatives were all done very well. Lovely crockery, cuttlery and glassware too! Friendly, knowledgeable staff, with clear, unfussy descriptions of dishes and wines. Great amuse bouche "snacks" to kick things off and awaken the taste buds. Simply marvellous! About a 25 minute walk from the railway station.

Me and my partner went for a dinner other day. The staff was lovely and helpful. Unfortunately the food wasn’t great and most of the dishes were very salty and definitely not worth £75 per person. It was quite loud inside so whenever the food was brought in and explained we couldn’t hear much due to the loud music. Also been added service charge of £16 on the top of the bill which is ridiculous as the service charge should be included in the meal price. £75pp is waaay to much for the food that was provided and even charging for the water. Definitely won’t be coming back.

Highlights for me on the day we went were the: chawanmushi; chicken with girolles, fermented barley plus morel farcie; haddock with asparagus and smoked pike roe; and alphonso mango with Thai herbs. We decided not to have the paired wines, and instead enjoyed a few different glasses of wine and sake from the excellent drinks list. Service was friendly and attentive throughout.

I can only score these 1 out of 5 as they refused to refund my £50.00 deposit, even though I notified them as soon as I was instructed by my doctor that I could not attend (early the day before). I know they were fully booked because I got someone to phone to check & my cancelling had zero affect on them, but they still made a point of phoning me saying, unfortunately, it was still non-refundable. We opted for the ten course meal. I really wish we had not. The first two and the last two tasters were the best. The rest all seem to have over bearing, salty sauces, the food had no layers as described robotically by the well rehoused staff. The vegetables slimy, the cold scallops not palatable and all that could be tasted was salt. When the staffed asked if we enjoyed and we gave our opinion. We seemed to be shot down and advised they don’t use salt and it was objective. They had been rehearsed and were well scripted. The wine at £15 a glass was sour, when I asked to change once again I was told it was opened that day, but as I had the last glass it could not be checked. They did change but made me feel like I was in the wrong. Over all not a pleasant experience and an eye watering £25 service charge added was the icing on the cake! The customers eating at the same time as ourselves also said the same thing. Will not be returning and suggest if you want a Michelin star you would need to try harder and listen to your customer. What a shame

Reading some of the other reviews really doesn’t match up to the experience we had at Jöro. Having been to Roots in York we can honestly say the service and explanation of wine and dishes at Joro was a lot better, less wooden and rushed. Yes they say the same/similar things to every table - because every table is having the same food! The 10 course tasting menu was great, we tried a lot of things we hadn’t had previously and really enjoyed them. Yes some dishes were served at room temperature but I am sure that was a deliberate choice for the flavour of the dish. And yes they are small portions, it’s 10 courses! As it’s a small restaurant you do have to arrive at your booked time or they won’t have room probably - but this was communicated in multiple emails before our booking. I don’t think this is unreasonable, and they do need the tables back at a specific time which is also communicated extensively. Honestly the only thing I would say was the music got slightly too loud towards the end of the meal. But it was 11pm by the time we left! This place is all about the food and the service and to be honest is refreshing to have such a relaxed atmosphere but also such great food, service and drinks. I don’t really think having linen napkins and cutlery not in a box matters!

We had reason to visit Matlock, and having read Giles Coren's review of Joro, we decided to make an overnight trip and have dinner here. It absolutely lived up to our expectations - the depth of flavours delivered was exceptional. We upgraded to the 10 course tasting with wine pairing and revelled in reliving each course with our night cap whisky. If you love your food and are happy to take the wine pairing recommendations which were unusual but perfect, you're in for a treat. The only reason I gave 4* for atmosphere was the music they played wasn't, in our opinion a great match for the food. We have a very contemporary Indie oriented taste in music, but there was just too much rap for our liking. I respect this is part of their style, but, for us, took the edge off the evening a little. But please don't let this put you off - the food is amazing, the staff charming and the wine adventurous - but forewarned is forearmed! We will definitely be back - and next time might simply make dinner at Joro our excuse to drive 3.5 hours from Epsom to Sheffield! Oh, and stay at House Of Joro if you can - loved the informality of the place - great to be able to sit and enjoy a book, or use the laptop in the cool communal living area. Continental breakfast was delicious - granola, yoghurt, smoked fish, banana muffin, treacle soda bread, Serrano ham and as much coffee or tea as your heart desires.

As a New Yorker with a taste for fine dining, I was blown away by Jöro in Sheffield. This place rivals some of the best restaurants worldwide, offering expertly crafted dishes, a fascinating drinks menu, and exceptional service. The food here goes beyond cooking—it’s culinary art, perfectly paired with thoughtfully selected beverages. The service strikes a perfect balance of attentiveness and discretion, contributing to an outstanding dining experience. Jöro is a true gem, proving that you don’t need to be in a big city to find world-class cuisine. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a memorable meal.

A rare roasted saddle of local hogget, juicy as hell, and a little grilled kofte popping with high kebab flavours, a prickly jam of Cambodian peppers and tapenade, a wild garlic raita and a dense potato cake spread with lamb fat. Just the right amount of meat for me (in my youth, I might have clamoured for the rest of the sheep) and crying out for a well-aged pinot noir.

I’ve been wanting to visit for a while and now wish we had done sooner! We visited a few days ago for a pre birthday treat, dining and then staying at House of Joro. Neither disappointed. Pre dinner drinks upstairs were just the job, and my sake soda cocktail was a lovely refreshing start. Downstairs we lucked out with seats at the kitchen bench, so we could see the action and the tantalising plates being put together in front of us. The food was a delight, all dishes beautifully balanced and fabulous flavours with the sea trout and hogget courses especially standing out, and a surprising mix of drinks that perfectly complimented the dishes. Service throughout was relaxed and friendly yet knowledgeable and attentive at all times. And it was lovely to be able to have a few words with Stacey and Luke. What a fabulous set up and team they have! House of Joro was perfect for the night, just a short walk away, and with a superb breakfast option with cracking mix of in house and artisan delicacies. Thank you Team Joro. We hope to be back again soon!

Second time here. Beautiful restaurant. Food was very surprising and most enjoyable. The service was fabulous apart from the bill that was £50 over. We politely brought this to their attention where they said we were wrong and it was correct, we questioned again and they realised we were correct. Just double check your bill when you go. Would definitely return. Head up to the nook prior for a delicious cocktail.

I visited Joro as I had been gifted a voucher. We had opted for the 10 course taster menu, within our group we had a vegetarian, pescatarian and standard tasting menus. We did not opt for the wine flight and instead chose a selection of wines to share throughout the meal. The service was good throughout the meal itself. The food was enjoyable however for the price I would say I was a little underwhelmed, each course served with a slightly over powering sauce. I appreciate this restaurant does not have a Michelin Star, however I can see, having been open for a few years, why it has not achieved one. I still enjoyed the meal until the end. Having eaten our ten courses, at the pace served by the staff, we were suddenly shocked to hear the music changed to a pumping beat and turned to an exceptionally loud volume! The bill was suddenly thrust on the table, with a curt waitress stood waiting with the card machine. I appreciate that the restaurant needs to get ready for the dinner service but we were given no warning that we were over staying our welcome. We had to ask for the music to be turned down so we could hear each other talk in order to divide the bill appropriately. We quickly paid and on the way out had a word with a member of staff about the ending of the meal. We were told that the loud music was to get the staff ‘pumped’ for the next service. This may well be a normal practice for a high class restaurant but doing so at the detriment to paying customers is another story, particularly with no warning whatsoever. I will not be returning to Joro, they are charging Michelin Star prices for an experience they are not delivering on.

This was my second time visiting Joro. The first time was a little underwhelming but gift vouchers took us back. It confirmed my initial thought; for £95 for a vegetarian taster menu I would have expected some protein alternative, not simply veg served in sauce. The first course had not changed since our initial visit 18 months ago. The meal ended abruptly with staff playing their own music extremely loudly. We were told this was to aid them getting ready for the next sitting and were advised that the booking came with a suggested end time. The pace of the meal was dictated by that of the food service. At no point were we politely highlighted to the need for us to finish at a certain time. We felt pushed out of the restaurant. We will not be visiting again.

We spent our Valentine's treat at the chef's table at Jöro, which offered an exquisite dining experience that seamlessly blends flavours from Asia, South America, and China. The 10-course menu is a culinary journey that showcases the creativity and skill of the chefs. Each dish is thoughtfully crafted to highlight the unique qualities of the ingredients while harmoniously integrating global influences. We started with Japanese milk bread, and a procession of beautiful and tasty dishes followed, including sea trout, baked haddock, octopus, pork belly, scallops, hoggert, finishing with Yorkshire rhubarb. Along with impeccable service and a commitment to quality, it's an experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Visited Joro for their 8 course lunch tasting menu with my husband yesterday. The meal was a wedding gift from my Brother as we’ve experienced a few tasting menus & it’s something we like to do. I have to say the food was average at best and way overpriced, our bill was almost £300. The staff were nice but it wasn’t natural & authentic but robotic and scripted & they say they’re not pretentious but it definitely is compared to what we’ve experienced elsewhere. I also think the 10% mandatory service charge when you’re paying £75 a head is a joke! The food is where it really came undone, the sauces all overpowered any other ingredients & were exceptionally salty. We were particularly disappointed with the teeny tiny portions of the two meat dishes. Two slivers of pork belly which had apparently been cooked for 36hours but I don’t know how as it was very chewy. I love pork belly & was expecting a beautiful little cube of soft melt in your mouth pork with crispy rendered fat… erm nope! The second meat course hoggett, again a huge lump of fat that was inedible as it hadn’t been rendered down & was just sat there on top of a tiny piece of lamb which was cold. Moved onto the two dessert courses which were the only real courses I felt they got right! Beatiful tangy rhubarb with a crumble & the 2nd a blood orange. All in all not a great experience & will not be returning.

Something a little different for Ftiday lunch. We planned to visit Jöro in January, but a dose of Covid put pay to that. I'm glad we waited until our sense of taste recovered because the tasting menu was an experience to savour. We were seated on the Pass, so we had the chance to watch the team work at close range. It was a pleasure to watch the chefs calmly go about producing the various dishes that are a work of art and a treat to the taste buds. We also shared a bottle of 0% red wine that was the best we have had. We are looking forward to a return visit.

We went for the 10 course tasting menu and I was excited as I had been told it was a great restaurant. The whole meal was freezing cold! The “ Ambient” scallop was horrific, 2 of us could not stomach it. I particularly had trouble with the haddock which was cold and this only enhanced the overly fishy taste. I understand it is a tasting menu and I did thank the gods for the small portions but 2 tiny slivers 1 inch square pork belly in a Tom yum soup splash was particularly meagre. Heavily overpriced. Staff were overbearing and at times very rude. Happily interrupting conversations.

The food went from exceptional to poor - the tasting menu does offer variety and great quality ingredients but the cooking (particularly with the ‘duck’ dish which was raw meat) is variable. Went for the drink suggestions with the food - but again extremely variable (the fizzy blackcurrant a particular disaster) and staff not really welcoming our feedback. Service was ok but I don’t like an added on 10% as standard and we felt very rushed towards the end of the meal - ‘insisting’ on having the table back and wanting us out the door…not what I expected when paying these prices. Finally the decor and style is great but the music gradually became too loud and out of kilter with the restaurant…(Firestarter by the Prodigy?) Overall an experience but not value for what they charge

I attended Remos for my birthday with a couple of friends. I am gluten intolerant so have a gluten free diet. The front of the menu stated gluten free options available. I had the gluten free eggs royale and a latte with honeycomb syrup. After leaving I started to experience symptoms that I had eaten gluten. I rang the next day as by the time I thought to ring they had closed and I enquired if the syrup had contained gluten as I had forgotten to ask. The staff checked and confirmed it did not have gluten but I thought to also ask about the hollandaise sauce, they spoke to the chef and said it was gluten free however read out the ingredients to me and said it did not contain gluten free and the only allergen was barley. I explained that barley was gluten along with wheat and rye. I said I was lucky as I am not celiac so will just be unwell for a couple of days and get over it but it could’ve been a lot more serious. This was concerning as it was the chef who read out the ingredients. They apologised but did nothing further to rectify the situation. I am very disappointed as this had been one of my favourite brunch spots.

The worst experience with rude unwelcoming staff I have ever seen. We Went today for a dinner with friends, requested two separate tables, then of the staff asked if we have any booking, we said we don’t have booking, then he said he can give us 2 tables just for an hour, so we didn’t agree , thought they might be booked and were about to leave then he came back and said that it’s okay to stay for 2 hours, so agreed. Ten minutes later another staff came and asked to move us to another table bcz they don’t have space to accommodate more people so we left the restaurant. If you want people to make booking in advance then you need to say that clearly from the beginning. Very rude and unprofessional people and would never recommend.
