My partner and I visited JORO for a special occasion. We both had tasting menu 2. For the price paid, we left feeling... Off. The food was all high-concept, and I accept this is an important part of the Michelin dining experience. I personally thought the menu lacked variety (despite having 19 courses), and miso kept cropping up in places I didn't know it needed to be. There were some hits, but at least as many misses. The atmosphere is... Unique. Glass-fronted meat fridges flank the seating area, which isn't dissimilar to being in the supermarket poultry aisle. All the tables are arranged with seats facing the open plan kitchen, as if some form of culinary cabaret is about to take place. The main things to see are: chefs tweezering individual leaves and using phones between courses. Industrial music is playing constantly. The whole eating experience takes around three hours- we were booked for 7:00PM, seated at 7:10PM, and dessert was still being served past 10PM- we ended up taking the final sweet bites to go as neither of us could take any more instrumental techno. As we came in winter it was dark at the time we arrived, which meant the unlit car park wasn't the easiest to find. Heading across the main road back to said unlit car park at the end of the night wasn't great either. In the end, sadly, I wouldn't recommend JORO.

Joro in its new location (I had been a sceptic), did not disappoint. The old paper mill with its open kitchen, has been beautifully reinterpreted - intimate and atmospheric. Service throughout was exceptional - all servers were each passionate, knowledgeable and deeply engaging - delivering a sense of anticipation and subtle theatre! The food - Nordic-Japanese fusion was exquisite. Delivering on every course - a total feast for the senses! It was a privilege watching the chefs at their craft! - there really is nowhere for them to hide and it's a joy to observe. I strongly recommend the accompanying alcoholic pairing menu to maximise the experience.

We had a superb evening last night at JORO; everything was absolutely perfect. The food was incredible (& that is by comparison with the Michelin establishments we've visited), every course was perfectly balanced & everything we tasted made us smile. I also highly recommend the drinks pairing for the complete experience; with some unusual & surprising choices we enjoyed the adventure of it alongside our food. All the Team there were brilliant; engaging, polite, friendly & efficient - perfectly in keeping with the style & relaxed vibe of the venue. The location is also ideal, providing easy access, parking if needed & an additional bar where you can relax. My husband & I will 100% be booking here again & would highly recommend to anyone considering a visit.

We had a wonderful lunch at Jöro today. The food was exceptional, every course a winner, and the whole team is so friendly and welcoming.

When I saw that Jöro 2.Ö was hosting a housewarming series I was really hoping that Gareth Ward would be on the list. Needless to say when I saw this was coming up I felt it was a great way to tick off 2 goals 1 see the new Jöro and 2 eat some of Gareth's food. The menu was Shared between Luke and Gareth and was just sensation from start to finish and I'm not sure my photos do it justice. It delivered exactly what you'd expect when two of the Uk's most exciting chefs join forces. Jöro 2.Ö, now more umault rich than before, is housed in the old Oughterbridge paper mill. This does mean it's a bit more of a drive to get to than before for us (not a bad thing for companies initially set up to help sell tyres -) but given the new venue almost certainly worth it. There is also a bar/shop as well as rooms housed within the converted mill. The conversion has managed to keep a lot of the character of the mill but from the minute you walk in the door the place oozes class. The entrance hall smells like a spa and walking into the restaurant it's minimalist and vast compared to the shipping container beginnings however it is still somehow cosy. The centre point of the dining room is the modern open plan finishing kitchen filled with very fancy looking kit from @electroluxprouk and roaring BBQs from @biggreenegguk. This extra space has in my opinion helped push the door from Jöro even higher than it was before with Luke's dishes more than matching up to the stuff from the Ynyshir team. Highlights? The whole menu but particularly the Carabineros prawns, a scallop dish laced with rhubarb and habanero hot sauce that balanced fire and sweetness with masterful control. The Singapore chilli crab with its crisp fried bun was a playful, finger-licking nod to Ward's love of bold Asian flavors, while the jasmine rice dessert, laced with Madagascar vanilla and Miyazaki yuzu, was a fragrant, unexpected triumph (mind blown by soy sauce caramel). This was a serious foodie dream night which makes me want to eat more of Lukes food and reinforces my desire to at some point visit Ynyshir.

Pretty great, but a few very rough edges and getting charged for something we didn't order without any recourse left us with a bit of a sour taste. For over £270 each including the drinks pairing, optional cheese course and mandatory service charge, we've had much better meals and nights out elsewhere. Firstly we didn't get any kind of booking confirmation email or phone call. Upon chasing this up (the day before our booking) we were told we must have entered our details wrong on the website, but when we checked our browser history it had been entered correctly. The food was great, only one dish let the menu down: one of the snack courses was a delicous cheese croquette which tasted absolutely amazing, but it was paired with a bit of pineapple that had been soaked in something that tasted like a flowery bathroom cleaning product! It instantly washed the delicious cheese taste away (which was a crying shame) and replaced it with the taste of a floral urinal cake! Both of us agreed it was pretty gross. Not sure what they were thinking there... The drinks pairing was genuinely good, but one of the pairings was a cheap wheat beer which didn't at all go with the food and was insipid and very bland. This was the only drinks pairing that we weren't asked if we enjoyed, so they must know its a bit of a miss. Service was pretty good and knowledgeable throughout, although we had to flag down a waiter ourselves to take our first drink order after trying to catch someone's eye ourselves for more than 5 minutes, which considering the number of front of house staff (they have more front of house than chefs!) was slightly annoying and showed they weren't being very attentive. Also the whole night from being seated to the last course being served was over 4 and a half hours! We were seated for the earliest evening booking at 7pm and our last course was served after 11:30pm, and then only after we informed them how long we had been waiting and that we needed to leave because our baby sitter was only booked for 4 hours (which for 12 courses should have been more than ample! Their website says to allow 3 hours!). When Joro were in Krinkle a larger menu only took 2 and a half hours to serve, which is much more reasonable. It meant my partner was stressing and didnt eat much of or enjoy the last couple of courses. People who arrived much later than us were served theirs significantly before us for some reason, which was frustrating to watch! Because we were in a rush, and probably thanks in some part to the alcohol drinks pairing, I only quickly glanced at the receipt before paying it. When I got home and checked it properly we had been charged £25 for 2 glasses of sparkling wine that we never ordered or drank! I immediately contacted the restaurant to see if there was a way to resolve it (e.g. check the CCTV and issue us a refund or gift voucher) but they have completely ignored my efforts to contact them since then. Guess ill have to try to do a charge back with the bank. Check your bill very carefully while you're still on site! One final slightly annoyed note, there is a mandatory 10% service charge included in the bill. I had a pocket full of cash and I usually leave closer to a 20% cash tip, but when somewhere includes a mandatory service charge, out of principle I will only pay that (on my card) and no more. All in all it was a good night out, but some very rough edges severely let it down, and for over £270 per person we've had better elsewhere. I've been a long time supporter of Joro going at least once a year since they first opened in Krinkle, and we've enjoyed our previous visits to the original location much more. EDIT: JORO have finally replied and have refunded the £25 we were charged for sparking wine we didn't order. Mistakes happen and I know I should have checked the bill properly before I left. Upgraded review to 4 stars accordingly.

My family have been going to Jöro for the last year or two. They've recently moved to Oughtibridge Mill, and we ate there a few days ago. Jöro used to be a great restaurant, now it is excellent. The menu has more on it and the chefs utilise a wider range of techniques now that they have the versatility afforded by a larger kitchen - gone are the days of the shipping containers! The canapés were fantastic, particularly the smoky beef and oyster croustade. The aged hamachi crudo was amazing, especially considering how far inland Sheffield is. The duck was a lovely main, and came with a stuffed morel supplement which had really nice, crisp texture. The meal was rounded off with an excellent sticky toffee pudding - maybe the best I've had - and some great petits fours. They have a good wine list, with quite a few own-label bottles - the one we had was really nice. The service has had a bit of an upgrade too - they give you hot towels at the start, which I've only seen in one other restaurant. I feel like this place is going to raise the bar for restaurants in Sheffield. Luke and Stacy are doing a great job and I wish them all the best.

The new Joro 2. at Oughtibridge Mill opened on the 4 th December. It is a high end Fine Dining experience offering a choice of 3 tasting menu’s. Theses are then divided into a mix menu, a pescatarian option or a vegetarian option. Each option has a choice of drinks either alcoholic or non alcoholic to go with the tasting dishes. A truly astounding meal and drinks pairing , the finest ingredients, producing dishes of exquisite flavours and intensity. The current menu has a Japanese influence but conjures amazing taste sensations for each dish. Though I was not familiar with some of the ingredients, each dish was delicious yet also educated my palate to new flavour experiences. The clean industrial feeling in part of the old paper mill, with soft lighting and thr exposed kitchen was inviting and allowed the food and drink to shine. Finally the staff are amazing each dish and drinks pairing combination is explained to you and explains the rationale behind the dish and the combined drinks if you choose this option. It is a truly great restaurant and worth splurging on for a special occasion. Table size is limited to a maximum of six but most tables were couples. They plan to open a barbique terrace in the spring offering sea food or even a hog roast.

Service is enthusiastic but perhaps a little lacking in knowledge especially around the wine. Wine list is an oddity. Let’s get some trad choices on there as some people dont want Bulgarian natural wines and the like. Sad that it is moving to Oughtibridge as we will probably visit less as it is so out of the way. Absolutely exceptional dining experience at Joro. The 10-course tasting menu was outstanding from start to finish - every dish was beautifully presented and packed with complex flavors. I noticed some reviews mentioned overly salty food and loud music, but honestly found neither to be an issue during our visit. The seasoning was perfectly balanced and the atmosphere was just right. Definitely get the drink pairing, their sommelier knocked it out of the park with perfect matches for each course. We added the extra courses, and they were worth every penny. A very disappointing experience. The ambience of a cheap nightclub with pumping music. All the dishes were over-seasoned and high in salt. So much so, that by the time the dessert came (also very salty) I couldn't eat it. (When this was mentioned to the staff, they responded by saying they don't use any salt, only ingredients like seaweed or miso - which are high in salt!). There was no subtlety or delicacy in the flavour of the dishes. Everyone's tastes differ, that I accept. But if coming to Jöro please read all the reviews, negative and positive, so you know what to expect. I've been lucky enough to eat in some very high-class restaurants over the years. This isn't one of them. It's rough.

We have visited Joro in the past and have absolutely loved it. We have eaten at many Michelin star restaurants and had many tasting menus, some much better than others. Although the last time we visited Joro I would have put it in my top three. This time, I am sad to say that it is in the bottom three. Normally with a tasting menu you have a stand out dish that you could eat again and again and again. Sadly there was not one dish that I would even want a spoonful of again. We received a warm welcome and the staff could not have been more friendly. The surroundings were nice, just as the last time we visited, although it was incredibly hot in there. The issue was with the food, none of it was very good. The first course actually made me feel a little sick, I thought it was just my taste and that it would get better (on tasting menus there always tends to be a course that is my least favourite). I tried giving that course to my son to eat in addition to his, but he did not like it either, my husband ate his own and ours…. Then the second course, pretty much the same. Same with the third! I know we should have said something, but what can you say? It is not like you have ordered a main meal that is not right and can be changed to another main. They are very specific dishes, you can’t ask for a substitute etc.. so it seemed pointless saying anything and we just hoped that it would get better as time went on, it didn’t. Out of the six courses my son only liked one, same went for me and that was only just a ‘like’. Normally when we get to the dessert course everyone likes it, again I left mine. The foods were very strange tastes, a lot of it was fermented and tasted a bit sour, not in a nice way. The flavour combinations were not great at all. Luckily the portions were so tiny it was ok for my husband to eat what we were leaving. I think if you put all three peoples meals together on a plate for all the six courses you would likely have enough food for one, so it worked out well for him. We do like the small portions normally as the flavours are so full and rich that you only need a little of it… I am so sad to say that we did not enjoy it, as our memory of the place was so good. The meal cost us nearly £300 for the table of three, so a lot of money for only one person to eat. The drinks are not over priced, although we only had one drink each (2 x beer and 1 x Prosecco), but it is good that they are not over inflating the prices of drinks. The staff were welcoming and friendly so I am sorry to leave such a review.

A restaurant in a shipping container may not be what you would expect for the best restaurant in Sheffield. We have been to many Sheffield restaurants and the food served here is at a different level and above what most very good restaurants serve. We had the tasting menu which was extraordinarily good. The only aspect that I thought could be improved is when the waiting staff explain the intricate dishes after they serve them at the table. There is background music and it can be difficult to hear them, especially if the person giving the explanation has an accent and speaks very fast.

We went for our anniversary and loved every minute! The food was sublime and I found myself eating extra slowly to savour each mouthful! Enjoyed the drink pairings too, first time for having sake in place of a wine but very much enjoyed it. All the staff were attentive and we received detailed food and drink descriptions for each course. We found the atmosphere to be very relaxed and comfortable. Can't wait to go back!

Dinner at the chef’s table was an experience in being exposed to the precision of the work being done here. Although hot and in amongst it, the lighting was better than in the other part of the restaurant so I got a good look at each dish. The menu with matching wine was excellent - managed to squeeze in the extra dessert which was worth the abdominal distention risk. Always add the caviar. Wine pairing was thoughtful and included beer which was a nice touch. Remember that the pairing goes all the way through so don’t be tempted to order another glass like I did to go with the latter courses. PS the walk to the premises from town down Snow Street was a real flashback to the 80s Sheffield I grew up in. We walked back to town the long way round. Thanks. Will

Just a wonderful experience. I had the premium tasting menu with alcoholic pairing and my partner had the pescatarian option with non alcoholic pairing and it was stunning. The interaction between food and drink was bordering on the magical and I had probably the finest Riesling I have ever tasted the Jas swan katla that sadly I cannot get ahold of. I cannot wait to go again.

Went on Wednesday night at 8.30pm for 20th wedding anniversary. Not disappointed; food, staff, service and atmosphere were all spot on. I hadn’t declared my husband’s allergies (causes rashes not anaphylaxis) before arriving- raw tomato and raw strawberries- usually just pick them out of whatever dish but the restaurant bent over backwards to adjust catering for him- removing a sauce from one dish and delivering a completely different dessert dish. Overall - an excellent meal and would definitely recommend and return.

Sadly we are no longer able to eat at Joro. I fear the lovely enthusiastic team we first met during the challenges of Covid have been kidnapped. If not by aliens, then certainly by the accountants or the lawyers. My attempt to reserve a table for a special family occasion has been met with an uncompromising, unapologetic list of who, what and when they won’t serve. You can only arrive at 2:00/2:15, 5:30/5:45, or 8:15/8:30. So if your boss might want to meet with you at 4.30 don’t bother to even consider coming before 8pm. If your parents don’t want to eat that late then tough. Or the chances are they won’t be able to eat half of it anyway. You can scrap the “Gluten free options” in the Trip Advisor entry. And the “vegetarian friendly” too. The latter is available but you have to book it in advance. Vegan - no chance. The tone of the “please note” is here’s a list of dietary requirements we won’t cater to - if you are still determined to try, send us an email and we may be able to but at our discretion. Not even “we’ll do our best to help”. There are a small number of top restaurants that have this attitude. I’m afraid it comes over as if you’re going to be picky about what you can eat, go somewhere else. And of course we will. We have loved our evenings with the young men who have introduced us to orange wine, Nat Pet and a most amazing barley wine pairing. They coped with the ever changing Covid restrictions with aplomb. But a coeliac is now too much of a burden for them. It’s a sad day.

Can’t comment on the food as we unfortunately didn’t get to go. Partner booked for my birthday and paid a £50 deposit. Due to a flight change, we asked to reschedule and were told we could book back within 6 months. All other dates we wanted - we were told were full and to rebook another £50 would need to be paid. Our deposit was completely lost with no other option of resolution. Disappointing.

Another great trip to JORO. We had the express tasting menu with paired wines. The meal was outstanding , the staff were friendly , helpful and attentive , and the service was excellent . It was a bit of a contrast to the very stern messages we got on booking about not arriving early etc. JORO might want to think about the tone of it's digital communications .

Enjoyed a fabulous, 10 course lunch with paired wines. Each course was exquisite - a delicious work on art on a plate. The BBQ prawns, so succulent and subtle were some of the best we've ever tasted. Ok so the Hype is justified, We had the most amazing meal at Joro yesterday. @cheflukefrench and co at Joro have teamed up with their bros @joelll6 at @konjokitchen , to kick out the most incredible elevated Sunday dinner offering. We were seated at the pass so got a full view of the kitchen as food was prepared. Watching the kitchen was so entertaining and the level of professionalism... watching these chefs effortlessly move around each other like a well oiled machine was so impressive. The service is friendly, informal and welcoming. They love to make you feel at home here. The food was just out of this world , and instantly made us say we wanted to book again. 🍞🧄🌿First came out warm @crumb.sheffield sour dough with what I think was a wild garlic butter, and it was like garlic bread on acid. Just so delicious. 🍗🥗🧀Next a starter - a twist on a cesear salad. A wedge of little gem with the most delicious rich Caesar dressing, so good James said he would be prepared to offer sexual favours to the chef for the recipe 🙈😂. It was topped with a deboned crisp chicken wing, crunchy bacon bits and puffed rice and parmesan - I could have eaten this every day and be happy so so good. 🍖🥔🥕 The main event - was a large Sunday dinner, elevated in every aspect. A rolled crisp but juicy slice of pork belly, sausage stuffing, 2 week fermented roast potatoes crunchy with an addictive seasoning, roast parsnip, garlicy greens, cauliflower cheese (omg the sauce 😍), apple sauce, gravy with so much depth I could have drank a bottle, and my fave bit , a rare slice of @randjyorkshiresfinest rump cap beef. The quality was insane , and as the Konjo USP is the cooking over charcoal, much of our food had a delicate and delicious smoky flavour that we absolutely loved. 🍨🍓Dessert was a take on Eaton mess crossed with trifle, strawberry in an ice cream topping style sauce , topped with custard , cream and the highlight an incredible lemon verbena sorbet that was so aromatic and refreshing after a big meal. One of the best things we have eaten in some time, filled us for a whole day,

I’ve eaten at quite a few restaurants including a couple of Michelin stars in just the last year. Make no mistake Jöro blows them out of the water. I’d say my meal on Saturday was the best I’ve had in about five years. It’s probably not for everyone. The Japanese influence has got stronger over the years, but I think over the last year or so (which was the last time I went) it’s been refined down to perfection. Every single course feels like it’s took someone a week to put together. I’m a very competent home cook, but the processes on show here are absolutely mind bending. I couldn’t even guess as to how they managed to come up with some of these recipes. The service was great, the atmosphere is a bit more refined than it was in the first couple of years here with lots more soft furnishing. The music choices - also - excellent. I can’t say anything bad about it. 7 courses, 6 of which blew my socks off. This is without a doubt the best restaurant in Sheffield and i think it may be the best one in Yorkshire. Much better than most Michelin star restaurants I’ve experienced it’s a travesty it doesn’t already have one.

Really impressive modern high-end cooking worthy of a Michelin star IMHO. Top quality from start to finish. Excellent wine choices to match each substantive course. Reasonable price for a wine "flight" too. A seat at the pass gave us an up-close masterclass in plating and also very impressive knife skills. Every dish was beautifully presented with great flavour. My wife's vegetarian alternatives were all done very well. Lovely crockery, cuttlery and glassware too! Friendly, knowledgeable staff, with clear, unfussy descriptions of dishes and wines. Great amuse bouche "snacks" to kick things off and awaken the taste buds. Simply marvellous! About a 25 minute walk from the railway station.

Me and my partner went for a dinner other day. The staff was lovely and helpful. Unfortunately the food wasn’t great and most of the dishes were very salty and definitely not worth £75 per person. It was quite loud inside so whenever the food was brought in and explained we couldn’t hear much due to the loud music. Also been added service charge of £16 on the top of the bill which is ridiculous as the service charge should be included in the meal price. £75pp is waaay to much for the food that was provided and even charging for the water. Definitely won’t be coming back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Jöro. The food was excellent. We had the signature menu - my partner had the vegetarian version. The food was fabulous all round. Highlights for me on the day we went were the: chawanmushi; chicken with girolles, fermented barley plus morel farcie; haddock with asparagus and smoked pike roe; and alphonso mango with Thai herbs. We decided not to have the paired wines, and instead enjoyed a few different glasses of wine and sake from the excellent drinks list. Service was friendly and attentive throughout.

We booked the chefs table which was a great experience. We have had some exclusive and high end eating experiences and Joro is up there for us. We are very lucky to have such an amazing place in Sheffield. There are very few exceptional eating places. We loved the vibe of Joro too fine dining without feeling stuffy. We find some fine dining experiences can be stuffy. We loved the music it could have been our own personal playlist. The chefs and hospitality team were faultless. We had a drink at the sky bar kelu before and after dinner which was fabulous too. We will definitely be back to Joro. Cannot recommend Joro enough if you fancy a fine dining experience it’s a real treat.

The veggie food was delicious, and the dessert was to die for! Hubby added on the £12 mushroom course and it was well worth it! Every course was well presented and super tasty! The only little improvements would be to make super the tables are cleaned between courses as I am a little ocd and ended up wiping mine myself and maybe to put the little lamp on before we arrive! Also received a lovely little chocolate dessert for our anniversary but usually it has words on the plate otherwise it's just a cake! Would recommend and would return.

We arrived at the house of joro the room was fine I then rang joro to see how far away was the main restaurant I was told go out of the building turn left down the street over the roundabout about 5 minutes walk bearing in mind my wife was in a wheelchair I had a look at the route unfortunately the roundabout was like spaghetti junction so we took a taxi to joro. Upon arrival we made our way in my wife with a walking frame as she could not weight bear on the broken leg we passed the main restaurant on the way to the lift it sounded busy good atmosphere. Out of the lift on the 1st floor we were taken to AXL wow we were astounded gobsmacked basically 2 tables in a kitchen it was humid no atmosphere whatsoever I was sat next to a glass fronted freezer full of meat. So so disappointed we told the waitress we were going to eat as we hadn't eaten all day as looking forward to some good food. Whilst she was gone we looked around and both said why should we eat in a kitchen they've obviously overbooked and chucked us up in AXL thinking all was ok i went to find the waitress and told her we feel ripped off and we're not going to eat also we wasn't taking the overnight stay either we were going home. Luke the owner came up and apologised for the mix up joro was clearly at fault they overbooked the main restaurant and fobbed us off into AXL on the website it states that in joro restaurant itself expect moody lighting audible music and laughter good vibes only none of that whatsoever in AXL. which is basically a test kitchen were again according to the website you get an intimate yet interactive dining experience with Luke we certainly wasn't offered that either.in fact when I said to him I didn't expect to be sat at the side of a freezer full of meat he sarcastically replied why don't you like meat? we both found that quite rude. I like fish but wouldn't expect to eat it at a table in the middle of a fishmongers. I know they were fully booked because I got someone to phone to check & my cancelling had zero affect on them, but they still made a point of phoning me saying, unfortunately, it was still non-refundable. We opted for the ten course meal. I really wish we had not. The first two and the last two tasters were the best. The rest all seem to have over bearing, salty sauces, the food had no layers as described robotically by the well rehoused staff. The vegetables slimy, the cold scallops not palatable and all that could be tasted was salt. When the staffed asked if we enjoyed and we gave our opinion. We seemed to be shot down and advised they don’t use salt and it was objective. They had been rehearsed and were well scripted. The wine at £15 a glass was sour, when I asked to change once again I was told it was opened that day, but as I had the last glass it could not be checked. They did change but made me feel like I was in the wrong. Over all not a pleasant experience and an eye watering £25 service charge added was the icing on the cake! The customers eating at the same time as ourselves also said the same thing. Will not be returning and suggest if you want a Michelin star you would need to try harder and listen to your customer. What a shame
