DELICIOUS. AND REASONABLE. We were driving from London to Scotland via Liverpool and then decided to stop off in Manchester for lunch. We chose JS because of memories of the original place further down the street and we’re very glad that we did. The food was absolutely delicious, different, very well cooked very tasty and delightful staff. We found the bill to be extremely reasonable and definitely recommend it to everyone and willalso return as soon as we can! We wish Orif, Gail and all the team great success in the new venture .

Popped in for the first time - WAS famous for fried liver & onions, latki, The plate was cold, so the gravy gelled on the plate. Should be served on a heated plate - very expensive - not revisiting.

First visit do didn’t know what to expect. The portions were really large. Really impressed and everything was piping hot. No room for dessert! We’ll be back!

Ordered 23 portions of burgers and chips and some chicken dippers for a party at home. Was delivered with everything packed seperately so that could easily serve on platters at party. Nothing was missing. Included lettuce, sliced tomatoes and pickles, chilli sauce, ketchup, garlic mayo etc. Their salads are also delicious and guilt free. Fantastic service.

2 out of my 3 salad choices were not included with my pulled beef laffe and it was Luke warm. When I rang up all I got was “well you got one salad so what can we do we ran out!” The second bad experience I had here. I won’t be buying again from them

We were welcomed straight away. The tables were nicely set up and CLEAN. The variety of options available on the menu was great and the food we ordered was delicious. Highly recommend!

We haven't used J+S since lockdown and were a little disappointed on our previous visits as I felt they used garlic in the latkes. We have enjoyed the most fantastic burger with salt beef and a salt beef filled pitta bread. I tried some of my wife's latke and was gutted I didn't order one (or two). The burger was fantastic and the latke legendary. Remarkable - well done ✔

Used to love JS and the range of food they offered, this new venture very much felt like they are trying to recreate the success of ta'am which would be fine if they managed to do so. My food looked great but just wasn't tasty, i could hardly taste the hummus, the fried onions were wet and again i couldn't taste them. The laffa was also badly packed, all the meat was at the top then the bottom was filled with coleslaw, pickles etc. I also didn't like that you had to list what salad and extra bits you wanted included whilst stood at the counter paying, as i didn't know what there was, I'd much rather be asked as they make it and point to what i want. Staff were lovely, place is clean but for me personally I prefer ta'am even if it is more hectic and they're a bit rude and whilst no you shouldn't compare, it's hard not to when this new offering is so similar.

Wanted to eat out with my wife! Ordered in, all really tasty! Doorstep delivery, arrived well packed and hot! Really tastymeal tjoroughly enjoyed!

I just had one of the best kosher home deliveries ever from JS. For many years I frequented the original restaurant that also ran a takeaway section. JS On The Corner has simply reversed the process and is now a Takeway/Diner that has retained their most popular restaurant dishes on the menu. I have experienced eating in, which was delicious, but tonight we ordered a home delivery. The breaded chicken Schnitzel with latkes looked and tasted every bit as good as in the original restaurant. I felt we were having a JS restaurant standard meal in our home, instead of a takeaway. For dessert we had the nut sundae which again was delicious. Delivery from order to arrival was fast and the food arrived hot. What a joy in a global pandemic to bring going out for a great kosher meal back home. Five stars awarded and 100% deserved!! Can’t wait to try the Liver and Onions and our other favourites in the near future!

Like the other reviews (wish had read first!) Very disappointed. Went for burger at 1.30 it was empty and loads of staff but burger unfortunately was dry and tasteless nothing like the js burgers of yesteryear. This is a let down. It is no comparison for the slightly dearer Taam up the road which I will be loyal to in future!

I came in here for a takeaway and was very disappointed. The food had gone from what used to be decent to now being poor. The chips which used to be what I would’ve called old-fashioned type of chips I know nothing more about French fries and taste is lacking. We had a mixture of burgers and falafel between the four of us. The falafel was tasteless and the salt beef burger was very stringy. The only positive was seeing a familiar face behind the cashdesk. I would like to say a thank you to someone who I haven’t seen there before a youngish boy Max who told me it was his first weekHe was very helpful very polite and couldn’t do enough to help us as he was tidying up around us. Possibly more members of staff like this required to bring in some younger people.

Very disappointed. JS is now a take away called JS on the Corner. It was empty when we went but it was 2ish. Both my boys had burger and said it tasted just like the frozen burgers you can get from the kosher shop on the next corner. Nothing special at all. The fries were inedible they were skin on fries and by the time we got them home they were a soggy lump and tasted like cardboard. I had kfc chicken schnitzel in a lava. Just tasteless. On the plus side the ladies serving were lovely. (That was what my 2* are for). I am afraid that is our first and last visit to JS on the Corner.

Disappointed...not the restaurant it was. It has become akin to a down market fast burger joint..will never go again..food poor service ok and atmosphere none

The quality of the service seems to have gone up in recent years here, and on this visit we were fortunate to be served by a particularly helpful and pleasant server (a blonde lady who has been there for years). The food was as good as ever - I ordered chicken soup (it seems criminal not to order Jewish penicillin in this restaurant!) and chicken teriyaki and chips. The chicken soup was tasty and hot, and the chicken teriyaki, whilst maybe a touch on the rich side, was nicely set-off by the excellent chips. I was a bit disappointed (as was my son) by the chocolate ganache dessert, as it wasn’t as chocolates as we had been expecting. My son’s burger went down well, and my wife’s food also got a ‘thumbs up’. The food isn’t haute cuisine, but it doesn’t pretend to be, and although the prices are a bit in the high side the reality is that coming here is still an experience that people want to repeat over and over.

On Tues it was my son Jamie's 21st birthday and we were trying to make it a bit special because his party had been cancelled. Jamie chose this restaurant because he had read good reviews about it. How disappointed we all were when we sat down to eat. There are 4 of us and none of us were impressed with the food. We all had burgers with chips and to be honest Burgerking are much cheaper and the food is far better. To be honest I feel they should refund my husband because it wasnt cheap but was tasteless. The chips were disappointing and all ended up in the bin along with some of the burgers. Thanks for taking the edge of my sons 21st with your awful food JS.

Decent food. Price gone up a bit but will get a decent meal and nice staff. Takeaways also come out nice. Probably the best of the kosher restaurants in Manchester

A nice local restaurant which serves good comfort food at good prices. My one bug bear..sometimes a plate needs to go back as it's not as hot as it could be. The staff are attentive and helpful and don't hover. Will definately go again.

I was introduced to this restaurant by a local friend who took me there for a meal - I liked it so much that we returned the following evening. Food is lovely, service is friendly and portions are generous.

This is Manchester's premier Kosher Restaurant that has been in the same location for at least 40 years but with this owner for about 10 years.The decor has been revamped after a recent fire and now is all on one level with an mezazine area for smachot. Our meal was first rate- Good old fashioned Ashkenaz cuisine with an Israeli twist.My partner enjoyed chicken soup- like Jewish 'penicillin and liver with onions where my plate of hot salt beef was sublime. The restaurant is back to its excellent standards. Ths staff coped with the early evening rush with efficiency . It is gratifying to meet the owner on a regular basis. This is THE place for kosher dining of the highest quality outside Israel

We had a takeaway from JS that was delicious, so we had another one the next night! Generous portions and not overly expensive. Really enjoyed it.

My son and I visit JS when we are in the area, being Jewish it was a favourite. Our latest visit however was disapointing and much of the traditional Jewishness has gone from it, attempting to produce more "up-market" menu items and "up-market" prices.

Well, you know what you’re getting here: filling food, served with a bit of attitude and not a lot of love. And so it was. Our greeting was lukewarm, to say the least, with no apparent joy at our arrival and no sense of our being welcome. As for the food, the sesame chicken was good without being amazing, and the chicken soup was as good as it should be in a kosher restaurant. My wife’s meal was not good, though, first because the steak was underdone (despite the way that she had asked for it to be cooked), and secondly because the rice was too salty for her. When she asked for it to be re-done, she was told that that wasn’t possible, because the rice was cooked in a batch and all of it was cooked in the same salty way. There was an adjustment to the bill, but this only reflected the fact that she didn’t eat much of her main course (the steak was re-done, by the way). The manager was good at explaining the problem with the rice to her, but ultimately there was no solution. And you get the feeling that this restaurant don’t really care that much - with so much of the market cornered, why should they?

Absolutely amazing experience. Extremely friendly, customer service top notch. Food was delicious. Will definitely come back. Thoroughly recommend the shwarma and breaded mushrooms.

This place had a makeover a year or so ago, following a fire, and it looks only slightly different now. I’m not sure that the changes are for the better, as the benches and chairs make it look more like a cafe (as opposed to a restaurant) now. The menu has also changed quite a bit - it’s more restricted now, and it has more of a Middle eastern feel than a traditional kosher feel. In other respects, though, it’s still the same: you still get service that floats between unfussy (on the edge of surly) and helpful, and the waitresses were particularly good at advising my son on the kids’ portions and helping him to decide whether to order from the kids’ menu or from the adults’ (and offering to adapt the latter to suit him). The best bit, as ever, was the food, with large portions as usual: good, hot chicken soup (although a bit too salty), and good teriyaki chicken (with the customary excellent chips); the lamb was good too (a huge portion), and my son was very happy with both his burger and his hot dog. The desserts were a bit disappointing, with the description of the chocolate explosion somewhat over-selling the rich, distinctly unchocolately product that arrived. The least impressive bit was that there wasn’t a lock on the gents’ loo - with only one male loo facility (no urinals), it really isn’t good enough to expect occupants to sit (or stand) there knowing that some unwitting other customer might walk in at any time. This restaurant of course corners the market, but it wouldn’t take much to convert it from being a decent place to a very good place. As it is, there’s a just a bit too much of taking the clientele for granted for me to be truly evangelical about it.

Four of us visited JS a couple of weeks ago for a birthday. My husband and I shared a mixed platter for 2 - and boy was it good! Plenty of food: lamb chops, steak, liver, cumberland sausage, chicken shnitzel, wings . . . really good. Also had a delicious dessert.

First visit to the refurbished restaurant - fabulous, food excellent, a tad pricey - could do without the "music".

Attentive staff from the minute we walked through the door, we all thoroughly enjoyed our well sized and delicious 3 courses, presentation and service perfect. Would definitely recommend you try this lovely restaurant, we will be back.

What an amazing experience we had. Food was fab from the seasonal menu. Was really tasty and lot of eat. The mix gill, is fab. Lots of food and different tastes. Staff delightful and helpful. Will be back again. Well recommended.

Went for a quick lunch with my brother in law this week.

Over the years we have visited JS regularly when visiting family in Manchester. Our most recent experience at the end of November was truly awful.

We took my elderly parents for dinner one evening to the newly reopened JS. There is access for disabled and elderly and the service is a s friendly as usual. JS ..you were missed!

This was my first visit to the new-style JS following its refit and refurb, and I was disappointed to see that the previously extensive menu had been cut right down. The food was as good as ever though, although my chicken burger was basically a chicken schnitzel in a bun. No qualms about the portions though- or about the excellent chips. The service too was better than it was before, although we may have benefited from getting some of the senior guys to wait on us rather than some of the more grumpy waitresses who traditionally roam the place. There’s no doubt that this is a Jewish Manchester institution, but I do wonder whether the combination of the reduced menu and the competition from Ta’am across the road might have more of a negative impact than the proprietors here would like.

This was my first time coming back since the re-opening of the Resturant. The whole Resturant has changed- for the good. They have really uped their game with the food and the new manager was great friendly and really helpful. Big portions and food was really tasty and fresh. Service was great and really fast. Was great to see that everything was homemade and fresh. Will deff be back soon, was really great. Five stars

I have dined at JS on a multitude of occaisions and find the review I have just read both insulting to the venue I hold in high regard and personally...as it calls into question my ability to appreciate what is good.

Yummy food, friendly owner, and a nice atmosphere for relaxing. Loads of gluten-free and vegetarian options, and the staff are willing to accommodate. Some meals have far larger portion sizes than others, (ask before ordering). All in all, a very enjoyable meal out.

I visited with my family for a celebration. It was the first time we’d been back since the refurbishment. The food and service was excellent. The burgers were out of this world. Will definitely be back and can’t wait to try the takeaway menu

Reservamos una early bird para comida un poco atrasado del Día del padre. No me impresionó cuando entramos ya nos dejaron para 5 / 10 minutos antes nos sentamos. Sí, estaba muy lleno, pero había sólo "camareras". Nos sentamos y fue bastante tiempo antes de que nos dieron un menú. Yo era grosero a la persona que finalmente trajeron el menú (no disculparse! ).

He estado tres veces ya que JS tenía su renovación forzada y cada vez la comida tiene mejor y mejor.

We were in JS twice in two weeks the early bird menu just restarted nice welcome from staff nice new seating .lovely tasty food served nice and hot and fresh .and nice portions and we will BE BACK

Phoned 30 minutes before we arrived to book. Greeted warmly and ordered after 10 minutes. Food arrived after another ten minutes , large portions and very tasty. Waiter checked twice to see if all was in order. Apple strudel with a rhubarb Icecream was outstanding!

We have eaten at the JS on very many occasions and have always enjoyed the food. This evening went for the first time since it's re-opening following the fire which devastated the place. We won't be going again. Gone are the lovely dishes (spaghetti Bolognese, cottage pie, chicken schnitzel, lovely soft ice cream etc.) and instead (we presume) exotic dishes. My husband had chicken soup with dumplings - something he always had there - price is now £6 for a bowl of soup in a local restaurant. He asked for some white bread to have with the soup but was told there was none - only pitta bread. All four desserts on the menu were of no interest whatsoever - no plain ice cream - one of the desserts was priced at £8! There used to be an early bird menu from 5.30 to 6.30 p.m. - that is no more. As I said above, we will not be eating there again.

We were having some visitors from London for a communal event and originally I booked the JS restaurant for 8 people.

The chopped liver is really different, it’s almost deconstructed and it’s delicious, you have to try it!

If angels made burgers this is how they would do it.

Go to JS once a year with Jewish Friends and I must say I absolutely love the place. The food is gorgeous and the Staff are lovely and friendly, nothing is too much bother. LOVE LOVE the starters :)

Just been to this restaurant which never fails to please. The staff are so pleasant, the place itself is spotless and the menu large and varied - something for everyone. I can recommend the spag bol - very tasty.

Came to the JS restaurant for a family birthday meal. A great choice of menu. The Israeli platter to share for starters was really tasty and authentic. Service was much improved from our last visit.

We went as two couples for the early bird starter main course and a drink included . lovely friendly service and lovely tasty and well cooked food we all enjoyed all of it .and we will hopefully be back soon

Excelente comida servida por un personal encantador en un ambiente cálido y extremadamente limpio. Si quieres comer fuera, JS es el primer sitio en el que ocurre.

Can't fault this place. The food is always excellent as is the service and the place itself. You can tell that some of the staff have been there since the dawn of time and are a bit moody at times, but hey...it adds to the experience!

We went for early bird dinner for my sons birthday .told the girl on the way in its his birthday .we had a lovely starters lovely main course plenty of food and drink .and when his desert came with a big sparkler and happy birthday on speakers made the day .a great time we had and great service.

The food was tasty and there was a great selection to choose from, the service was lovely and very helpful. I am looking forward to my next visit.

Seven of us rolled up without a reservation, all of us got fed, and nobody was unhappy. There's no doubt that if you want kosher food then there's nothing comparable in Manchester, and certainly the wide-ranging menu is impressive. The kids' meals all went down well, the chicken soup was lovely as usual, and the teriyaki salmon was very good. But somehow...you always get the feeling that the food's being thrown at you, with not a lot of care and love. We were the only table upstairs, and it was often difficult to get anyone's attention - and, when we did, we couldn't get so much of a smile out of our server, Kasia. Maybe she struggled with the language, and she certainly got all the orders right, but a smile - or even a pleasantry - wouldn't have gone amiss.

Every time im in Manchester, I end up here and am never disappointed. prompt and friendly service with tasty food..and a North West Manchester ambiance that cannot be replicated.

Dear TripAdvisor reader,Once again JS have come up trumps...and it is only fair to say that this was in no small part down to the efforts of Michael (the owner). We were a party of 21 lively adults and kids and we wanted a place to celebrate my grandmother in law's 70th surprise Birthday. Michael was extremely amenable and allowed us to set up with our own decor beforehand, complete with banners, balloons and table decorations. We had exclusive use of the top floor, the service was excellent...the food was sumptuous and plentiful and the atmosphere and willingness of the staff to please was second to none. We overstayed by more than an hour after closing time and the staff were still smiling at us and pleasant to deal with.Thank you JS for making this fantastic event possible!!!

I came to meet a large group from Leeds (pensioners) who were stopping pre-travel home. A party menu was given, which I gather was not the menu, shared prior to people coming. Food not bad. A little uninspiring and chicken soup definitely well below par. Of disappointment was the lack of clarity about pricing. As a large group, the understanding was that a discount had been offered. Waiting staff reported not to have hear this. Thus a group of people, on a budget, were expected to pay £12.95 rather than £10 per head (as reported as agreed when the party booked) for an evening. This seems vastly unfair. If you are a group do get your quotes in writing and ask that the restaurant sends the correct menu/ correct price, so that you are not left in an embarassing position of funding the difference from your own pocket, rather than ask people to pay a difference, that they can ill afford (with the additional hint that the new and revised fees do not include service). Perhaps management might do the good deed of contacting the party organiser (not myself), apologising for the error and refunding the difference.

I am constantly amazed that a city the size of Manchester cannot command more kosher restaurants. Whilst this is an old favourite, it is average to good....no better and it's Manu is unimaginative, stodgy and tired. The concept of medium rare is lost on the chef....either you have a steak medium or....medium.....or if you really insist, medium. Chopped liver was poor today, chips a little soggy and the rest seemed passable, but no more than that. Can't somebody save this community from culinary mediocrity? Rare was a move in the right direction, but sadly could not survive. Tragic.

We have been here before and came again as there is limited kosher restaurant choice in Manchester.As we weren't that hungry we opted for the pastrami sandwich which is served on either white bread or brown - no rye bread available The sandwich was dry and rather tasteless ad the latke was awful - we both left the latke.As we were leaving we discovered in another part of the restaurant there is a 'diner' section serving the same food as the restaurant but at cheaper prices.

We went to J S two couples for the early Bird .We ordered two courses and the drink all one price. when my wife starter came she changed her mind .no problem no fuss changed it .we had a lovely meal and a nice time and a an early bird we were never hurried or felt rushed very nice and very busy will be going back soon

We 'schlep' from Cheadle regularly (only 20 odd minutes) and the food is consistently good, the staff are always polite - and they do work very hard with the customers they have! We think that the Early Bird is good value. I am always amused by the criticisms on other reviews which seem to be a bit OTT!

We visit this restaurant sporadically with friends who like to eat kosher. Our latest visit convinced us never to return again - the food was extremely expensive and mediocre. My wife had the chicken schnitzel which was thick like a door plank and tasteless while I had the salt beef which was carved so thinly, when I returned home I had some toast. Both meals were not particularly enjoyable. The toilets were disgusting - with no toilet paper in the ladies and dirty. They are far too near to the eating area - the door handle hits the back of a chair where customers sit - ugh. The staff are pleasant enough however. For those in Leeds seeking a kosher meal I cannot see the attraction of travelling to Manchester when there is The Vine in Leeds- the food here is fab, plentiful and consistently good. It's a thumbs down for JS

I haven't been to JS in a number of years as we live in south Manchester but I was given some vouchers as a birthday gift so this was a good opportunity to go. I was very impressed with the whole experience from start to finish. It is unpretentious, wholesome kosher food with a good variety of choice to suit everyone. I had the chicken spring roll, then mixed grill with a latke and managed to squeeze in an apple crumble and it was all excellent. The meat in particular was cooked to perfection on the chargrill and it was delicious. The restaurant was very busy with it being a Sunday night but the staff were very efficient, attentive and friendly, even the owner came round the tables at one point to ask if we were ok and if there was anything he could do for us. This felt genuine and is not something you see in other more 'high end' places. We will definitely be returning.

This restaurant's usually great with excellent food and have visited many times. Today, for the first time, we decided to use the delivery service. We easily selected what we wanted online. However, the system wasn't' working properly and we could not make payment so we called the restaurant. The staff were extremely unprofessional. We asked for Salt Beef Sandwiches, a staple of a Jewish Restaurant. We were told they were out of Salt Beef. When stating that, we could turn up at the restaurant and have Salt Beef, they said they would sort this for us. They also said they were extremely busy and could not deliver our order for ninety minutes at least. After a heavy phone call, the food arrived around forth minutes later. The orders were not entirely correct but we leave them as they were. Whilst we recommend the restaurant, we would not use the delivery service any more.

Not only was the restaurant beautifully set out, the 4-course meal was absolutely delicious. The food was not only attractively plated, it was hot (as it should be) and tasty. The staff were so pleasant and eager to please (as they always are no matter the date or time) and an added bonus was the magician who "visited" each table entertaining guests with his amazing trickery. The evening finished at midnight with a fabulous firework display in the street outside - diners could either view from inside or in the open air. A thoroughly enjoyable end to 2015. Well done JS.

If you want good, wholesome portions of kosher food, JS always delivers- as it did on our visit. The food was good, hot and tasty. The service was good and efficient, and we particularly appreciated the helpfulness of the waitress in identifying that if we allocated our order to a 'special deal' we would save money (which we did). The chilli sauce was a bit watery, but the rest of the food (esp the children's meals, the spring roll and the always-excellent chips) more than made up for that. Not cheap - but an enjoyable experience as ever.

Visited JS Restaurant last week on the spur of the moment with no booking. We were welcomed by friendly and helpful staff. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. We arrived during the Early Bird Evening Session so we got excellent value for money with two courses for around £12.95. The portion sizes were generous and the food perfectly cooked. Even the Early Bird Menu's so large that we find the choice hard to make!!! Would always recommend this restaurant for excellent value and delicious Kosher Food.

Have been a few times to the JS, which serves traditional Kosher food. Good atmosphere, spotless, and good service - however meals are quite expensive

For an ordinary Manchester restaurant JS is getting expensive - £22.50 for a lamb dish with potatoes and no veg. A grilled steak the same with chips. The restauarant is no great shakes and when compared to restaurants in Edgware Middlesex I find the JS very overpriced. In Edgware you can have a 3 course meal for this price. The food can't be faulted but people will look elsewhere if prices climb. The lamb was beautifully cooked and very flavoursome. I didn't like the saute potatoes. Very soggy and not crisp like they should have been. The desserts were not very imaginative or varied and so I didn't order one. Ice cream sundae came as a whirl of ice cream with a coloured sauce at an inflated price.

I travel to Manchester on business 5 or 6 times a year (ironically to do the accounts of a nearby Convent) and have always found the food to be freshly cooked and tasty. The lockshen soup is very good, the chopped liver not quite so. For main course I have had chicken schnitzel, roast chicken and salt beef. Strangely salt beef has not been available for three our of the 5 visits I have made here. I have seen poor marks given for the steak. I would never choose a steak at a kosher restaurant in England, go to Israel or New York for that (thank the Beth Din for not allowing hindquarters). Last time I went I had the early bird set menu , three courses plus a hot drink and a beer for under £18, amazing value. Could never get that in London
