Amazing food and the best soup I’ve ever tasted. It’s a shame that such a lovely place had such dreadful service. There was one man, brown hair and glasses, looked about 20s who was serving us. Upon walking in he rudely said there were no tables, we said that’s fine and we could wait. There was a couple waiting ahead of us but we were more than happy to wait as we’ve been here many times and have had no issues before. The server said “fine” and was generally rude to the idea of us waiting for a table. Once we were sat down, he took our order hurriedly and went off. He practically threw the water on the table and walked away. When we went to pay he ignored us while he was standing and doing nothing, leaving his other coworker to take our payment. All the other staff that work at JPs are lovely and have consistently good service, so I would be doing a disservice to say all service there is bad as that is simply not true. It was just one member of staff that was rude and that does not reflect the whole of JPs. I would highly encourage this one member of staff to take a minute to reflect on his service and improve himself.

13th out of 26 in North Berwick? Something wrong here. This place should be number 1. We have visited twenty or more times; amazing sandwiches and soup and other lunch items and coffee; fast and friendly service. You’re lucky to get a table, and that’s because it’s so good. Five stars, no question.

Popped in after a chilly beach walk with my toddler and my 1 year old. Super friendly staff considering the chaos that I had walked in with! Tasty coffee and cake and a special hot chocolate order for the little man. Very reasonably priced also. Will come back again. I didn’t get the name of the lady who distracted my toddler whilst I paid and gathered all of our belongings up but thankyou! 😊

Having had a coffee and cake with my brother, I made the mistake to pay at once. I went back to the table and intended to read a little, when a waitress promptly and peremptorily asked me either to order something else or leave. This is the only time it has ever happened to me in 67 years, and I consider it unacceptably rude. They may well have been able to have another order immediately, but have lost a customer.

I don't write reviews but I was that disapointed with a server in the cafe. I am visiting from Canada, was in the shop browsing, went to use the washroom and was told if I didn't buy a coffee I couldn't. I may have, but was a customer with 5 people and was taken a back. We left. It wasn't busy and would never go back. I also suspect a senior doing the same in Canada would not be shown the same dis-service

As an American, I am not in the habit of drinking tea every day. But we were walking near the beach on a cold, rainy November day and wanted to warm up. Tea sounded like a good idea. We ducked into JP's and were seated at the back in a cozy table (there were 3 of us). I wasn't hungry (having eaten a big lunch) so my eyes went right to the teas on the menu. I settled on green tea, which came quickly enough. I was delighted to get a full pot of tea (not just a small cup). I have to say, this was the best green tea I've ever had! My companions enjoyed their teas as well--I don't remember what they ordered. I can only imagine that the food is of the same caliber as the tea--it's actually a shame we weren't hungry! But the tea hit the spot!

My partner and I headed to North Berwick for the day and we went to Jps for lunch. We hadn't been before , so we thought we'd give it a try. I had the quiche with salad....the quiche was very nice, and the sald was plentiful and tasty. Best lunch I have had in a while in a cafe. My partner enjoyed his black pudding roll. Our coffee and tea was nice also. The place was clean , so were the toilets. Staff friendly, the girl who served us was very chirpy and on the ball...with a loud voice ha ha....but she was great...service was great. Went into this establishment yesterday with a friend, we were looking to have lunch. There was a table available and my friend and I went to sit down. A member of staff shouted to us, quite rudely, that they were taking no more customers as they were short of staff as there were only two of them working . I politely asked when they would have a table and was told by another member of staff that they couldn’t say as there were only two of them working. We left the shop, after being recommended to go there, and decided they did not deserve our custom due to the rudeness of the staff. I appreciate businesses are have difficulty with staff but it would have been far better if the staff had some respect for customers and learn how to talk to them. We did however find another place to eat, tea at Tiffany’s, which was busy and were met with a warm welcome and had a delicious lunch!

Had a coffee (!) and an empire biscuit - looking forward to my coffee especially as there were about 30 jars of coffee beans for sale at the counter - what I got was not anywhere near a cup of coffee - more brown liquid in a cup = POOR. And then my empire biscuit - biscuit was hard and as I tried to cut it in half the entire piece of icing came off in one piece - there was no jam inside only a dried bit of something that might have been jam ! Serving staff had annoying way of calling everyone "my lovelies" "my darlings" and "my dears" - that really gets me annoyed !

We joined the diaspora from Edinburgh one sunny Sunday afternoon, to sample the delights of the coast on the banks of the Firth of Forth. Needing more thn a coffee and a cake we were enticed into the JP café by its offer of light lunches, as well as other deli delights. We all succumbed to the trio of salmon salad, which was great, with smoked salmon, a salmon rillette and a hot smoked tranche adorning a tastily garnished plate, which was accompanied by your choice of bread or oatcakes. With a coffee apiece, £10/head seemed a very reasonable price for a tasty lunch.

Stopped here for lunch and got really tasty sandwiches with a decent side salad (not the usual handful of undressed bagged leaves). They even gave me a choice of deli salads to replace the coleslaw (I hate coleslaw) and so I had some delicious potato salad. It also operates as a shop and the food in the deli counter all looked really good. Everyone in the place seemed to be clearing their plates, and even my cup of tea was great (no cheap catering pack of teabags here). If I’m ever in North Berwick again, I’ll be heading back to JP’s.

The menu displayed in the window looked attractive so we went in. The cafe doesn't have many tables and it was busy but we managed to squeeze onto one small table taking spare chairs from other tables. One good feature is that the breakfast rolls (bacon roll, sausage roll etc) are available all day. There is a choice of two soups, sandwiches with interesting fillings, and a soup and sandwich deal which gives you a cup of soup. The food was excellent, service was very good. We were offered a bigger table when one became available but we decided to stay with our original table - still, it was a nice thought by the waiter. Coffee was good, prices were reasonable given to excellent quality of the food. The deli part has a nice selection of good quality products. In a cool counter there are delicious looking quiches such as Brie and Cranberry, Mozzarella and Pesto, Stornoway Black Pudding Bacon and Mushroom, etc. Also Carrot Cake, Apricot, Cranberry and Almond Shortbread, etc. We had a very enjoyable lunch.

If there's something which slightly annoys me about a Deli/cafe or Restaurant is when they don't have a menu in the window, even a sign such as hot and cold rolls or breakfast served all day sort of gives you a clue,....however the reason I went in to JPs for the first time was the fact they had a menu in the window all be it- 'I would recommend they up the font size for old folks like me--witch of course Leeds to more custom. Its a sit down and be served place,'I didn't notice the sign'. maybe this could be added to the larger window menu sign.I ordered a black pudding roll and a coffee, they where both first class, a good quality roll with some spread on it 'which a lot of places don't bother with',a selection of sauces in sachet form witch I also like as opposed to hardened sauce around the bottle tops.Nearly forgot, I of course visited the toilet to wash my hands before my snack 'always lifts the heart a bit' to find a loo in good condition- a good pointer to the general cleanliness 'and attitude of the proprietors' lovely to find white disposable towels and a clean environment overall. The staff where polite and friendly So J.P.s will therefore be my place of choice for food when I visit North Berwick as I do on a regular basis.

Unassuming little place but sandwiches were excellent, particularly the smoked salmon and dill sauce one. Served with a side salad which managed to make humble ingredients interesting. Chicken chowder was creamy delicious and the millionaire's short bread definitely didn't come out of a factory. Also very pleased with the overall bill at £21 for two (two sandwiches, one chowder, one diet coke, one white wine, one espresso and one short bread). Shame we forgot to purchase one of the naive art postcards. We'llhave to come back!

This cafe is one of the few serving weekend lunch snacks in north Berwick. The food is tasty, nothing spectacular. Just tasty ordinary food. The one unfortunate let down is the customer service. The staff take forever to acknowledge customers, impolite and generally rude. This place would be thriving if the customer service got a bit of management!

I popped in with 2 friends on the hunt for a late brunch. The selection of breakfast rolls was good and flexible. You could add on extra items for an additional £1 per item. The soft flour dusted roll was clearly fresh. The Stornoway black pudding was delicious as always, but not over cooked at all. The fried egg was perfectly smooth with no oil pockets and nice runny yolk. Such a simple dish, but done very well. My friend was ordering a salmon sandwich, but had asked the waitress to make several alterations to the order. This was handled professionally and the waitress seemed happy to oblige. It's not often that you are treated warmly when making such requests! The only downside to the whole visit was when we tried to pay our bill. We struggled to get the waitresses attention, as it had gotten very busy for the lunch service. Eventually we were instructed to pay at the till, which is fine but since the rest of the meal had been table service this was a little confusing. Not a problem, but maybe a sign saying to pay at the till, or instructing people to do so on service would help (If there was a sign I missed it). I would definitely go back the next time I visit North Berwick. Delicious and enjoyed by all!

Stopped off in North Berwick today for a coffee before walking up Traprain Law. Hadn't been to JP Deli before so gave it a shot. Clean and tidy with very friendly staff. The choice of two soups was fine either lentil and ham or tomato and basil. Chose the former which was served with a brown wheaten roll. Very nice indeed. The coffee was also good which is a must for me. Also tried an egg and sausage rolls which arrived on a sandwich as they had run out of rolls but that was also ok. Would have marked this higher but post christmas rush I think they were under a bit of pressure and got the order a bit wrong. Also running out of rolls midday isn't great. However I'll put it down to this time if year. Will definitely try it again. Good atmosphere and pleasant staff.

Excellent service. Ordered 2 chicken mystique baguettes with salad and they were ready for me to pick up. Delicious. We order this every time we meet for coffee.

We had a delightful lunch at East Coast Musselburgh today, choosing from their set menu. The restaurant is clean, contemporary, and tastefully decorated, which created a welcoming atmosphere. We both started with the mussels in a spicy tomato sauce that also served as a flavorful broth. The sauce had the perfect balance of heat and richness, complementing the fresh mussels. For mains, I opted for the Spaghetti Harbour, which was generously portioned and packed with clams and mussels. The seafood was cooked perfectly, and the dish was hearty yet refined. My wife had the King Prawn Calamari, which was served with a light, perfectly cooked batter, accompanied by crispy skinny fries, a fresh salad, and tartare sauce. She loved the combination of flavors and textures. We washed everything down with a refreshing Leith draught beer, which rounded off our meal perfectly. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and we felt well taken care of throughout our visit. The facilities were well-maintained, including spotless toilets, which is always a good sign. Overall, the meal was excellent value for money, and we left feeling satisfied and eager to return. I highly recommend East Coast for anyone looking for fresh seafood and a great dining experience in Musselburgh.

Went here today for a birthday meal What a total and utter disappointment the quality of the food was very poor. I would have rated it no stars but had to give at least one to continue with the review. The meal I ordered was billed as a triple steak burger, OMG it was awful, when it was served to me the burger was bone dry and very small, over cooked and totally tasteless. There was no burger sauce, (what we were offered was a bottle of ketchup and seriously watered down mayo) there was no onion or cheese only a little piece of stale lettuce and one slice of very thin tomato in the very dry bun. It was listed as being served with rustic chips but I actual found they were nothing more than a handful of frozen skinny fries from a bag. I was charged almost £17 for this which is an absolute disgrace. I've had far better any tastier burgers from McDonald's for a third of the price. My partner had what was billed as peppered chicken which was very poor, served in a skillet which was no deeper than a saucer and it was served without rice which was listed on the menu. The manager came over before it was served and gave her a spoon and we were wondering why you would need a spoon to eat the meal! Then It became apparent when it was served, hardly any chicken and a few bits of pepper and onion and was swimming in some kind of peppered sauce, hence the spoon. This was also priced around £16/17, again ridiculously over priced for what was actually offered. We checked out the menu online before booking a table but when we arrived we were given a totally different menu from what was online. Then to top it all we paid cash and after some time we had to ask for our change from the bill (over £5). When the ki Manager came over he then said "folk normally say just to keep the change " we were Shocked and utterly embarrassed by this comment. What an absolute rip off this place is and we certainly won't be back .
