Delicious food and really friendly and polite service. Would definitely recommend. The Lamb Saga was particularly tasty as was the keema rice. Yum!

We had a really lovely time tonight at Joy Raj. We felt very warmly welcome and the food was delicious! We were served by Shabs, who was attentive and great to chat with. Would definitely recommend for both dining in (very cosy) and takeaway!

Good curry, great service - disappointing to realise all the meat is halal - a wicked process.

Placed a £40 order from daliveroo foid came damaged in the cartoon leaked all through the bag on top.of that the and tasted bland no spice what so ever and part of the order was missing..... only recived my partners order mine was missing ontacted the restaurant to have a replacement order they refused to collect and replace the food .and wouldn't take responsibility for any of the issues raised .. including the way the food.was cooked as it cancelled from there restaurant. They wouldn't refund and told us to.contact daliverro we contacted them.and the basically they said the same.thing that it was not there responsibility no refund was offered or credit I'm disgusted with the way the handeld my complaint customer care was verry poor. I regularly orders from.the thease online restaurants and the realy have dony have good people skills and verry poor customer care service it's disgusting how a restaurant can sell food in such alow quality and refuse to do.anything about the food they proved we've lost out on nearly £50 no food refund no solution We have just had to order food from a Chinese takeaway when originally we fancied Indian what we have just reordered came to half of the price and least with this takeaway I know whY I'm getting good quality food not lime joy raj the worst experience iv ever had DO NOT ORDER FROM.THEASE PEOPLE DISCUSTING FOOD AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Great place for an Indian, went for our friend's birthday and all the food out came together. Polite staff.

My wife and I had an excellent meal at Joy Raj - the food was particularly tasty and the service was exceptional. As paneer-loving vegatarians, Shabs and the kitchen staff were more than happy to let us have a custom dish. The sundries were just as delicious as the mains and I am already looking forward to my next visit

Celebrated my 20th birthday here and the service and food was absolutely amazing! I had the Tandoori King Prawn Masala, 10/10 dish. Definitely recommended coming :)

This is potentially one of the worst Indian meals I've ever had. It is unbelievably bland. They don't even know what salt is, let alone curry seasoning. Naan tasted like they just bought them in Sainsbury's down the road, same with the rice. I genuinely don't understand how this place gets any good reviews unless some people are completely missing their taste buds. I would avoid at any cost.

I love this place - great food, magnificent service - especially from Shah - and a lovely atmosphere - (also 30% off at the moment Monday/Thursdays 5.30 - 9.30) so even better although happily pay their normal prices and have been for years.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Joy Raj. The staff were courteous, polite and attentive, making sure we were well looked after. The food was excellent and served promptly. It’s evident that the staff values both service and quality, making this restaurant a great option for dining. We'd gladly recommend it to anyone in the area.

Easily the best Indian in Bristol, all things considered. Excellent food and good helpings, so count on the doggy bag! Kind, friendly, unobtrusive service in a really relaxing and comfortable setting. Surprisingly, good value considering how big the dishes were. The house red is a good choice and not overpriced, either. My only gripe is with the substandard toilets which urgently need renovating to the same standard as the rest of the restaurant. Apart from that, the best choice if you're looking for a good Indian!!

Ordered through Uber eats because they don’t delivery themselves anymore. We didn’t receive part of our order and had no way of recouping our loss. Restaurant just fobbed us back to Uber.. useless

Best in Bristol - Shab is a legend!

Service from the staff was attentive and friendly. Their dishes are halal which was great for some of our group. The food took a long time to arrive (we were a large group though) and unfortunately we all felt the flavours were disappointing.

Staying at the apartments opposite for work from Nottingham. The food was amazing and the host was very funny, polite and friendly. Would highly recommend

We just ordered an Uber Eats delivery from this place and the food is disgusting ! The lamb tikka bhuna is sweet and there is so much water separation from the sauce it’s obvious this has been prepared with haste rather than quality! We paid premium prices for such rubbish food! Never ordering from this place again. Nasty food!!!

Have eaten here a few times now and have to say its a great place. Service is always spot on and never been disappointed with the food quality, portions or price. Reccomend house Biriyani as something a bit special.

Shab and the team were amazing. We came here for Easter and the food and service were outstanding. They make all the food fresh and it went above my expectations if you are in Clifton please come and visit this place! Well worth it.

This restaurant, Joy Raj, I found on Uber and what a diamond find it was ! If you order from here you would not be disappointed I order every week and never unsatisfied I’ve tried so many dishes and starters from here and not one have disappointed and the price for the quality of food and portions is outstanding, I do eat from a lot of Indian restaurants…. Blue, ginger, paprika, nobanos, Indian cottage, the clove , spice bazaar and travel around places I’ve also tried so bad indian restaurants but this one isn’t one I highly recommend, polite staff and compliments to the chef/chefs.

I have only ever ordered from here, but it always came so quickly. Also the people who deliver are always lovely, and the food is delightful. This is probably in my top 3 curry houses in Bristol. Not too expensive as well.

Overall food is tasty and fresh. Specially try mint yogurt chutney - Its really delicious.

We were really reluctant to leave a negative review but felt compelled to as lovers of curry. The reviews for this restaurant were some of the best on deliveroo so we thought we’d give it a try. The food wasn’t bad as such, but it lacked flavour and spice. The bhaji were incredibly greasy and flavourless. The Madras was more like a soup with little heat and not much content. The paneer itself was rubbery and the dish was lacking in flavour as was the Chana Masala. There was nothing wrong with the food it was just not particularly good and left us unsatisfied and hungry. I cannot comment on the establishment as we had a delivery. But I’ve heard it’s very pleasant.

Ordered the “feast for two” on deliveroo. Delicious, generous portions (including chutney sizes too), would highly recommend the lamb saag and Tarka dal. Called up to ask if they were able to accommodate my nut allergy and had great, clear communication with them on the phone (a young guy, should have got his name). Really put me at ease to see how well he knew the menu and ingredients/allergens. All round the food was tasty, made with quality ingredients and well-priced. Bonus points for mostly sustainable delivery packaging. We had an all-round great experience and will order again from here.

Unfortunately lost a loyal customer tonight. Cut my calls off three times; I understand it's going to be busy over Christmas, they obviously don't. Response to restaurant - there was nothing wrong with the phone 'pal', it rang for different lengths of time each call, if you're too busy or it's too close to closing, answer and just say so, easy. If you can't answer a phone next to you what hope is there with an email. You not understanding the last sentence and your response speaks volumes.

Useless forgot the rice. By the time it was delivered had cold curry with no rice GREAT.

We love it here. The food is delicious, the staff are always helpful and the atmosphere is great. Always a high standard and takeaway is fab too. Maybe a little more expensive than it used to be but worth it.

Great meal, they are very accommodating, I hate onions so they made my meal with red peppers. The prices are also very good. I would totally recommend this place. Don't be put off by the entrance.

I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this restaurant. The waiter's behavior was absolutely unacceptable. He outright refused to take our order simply because we wanted to order only two items. It was clear that he had a problem with it. To make matters worse, I couldn't help but feel that his attitude towards us was influenced by our ethnicity. The menu prices outside were different from what we were told inside, and when we questioned this, he responded with extreme rudeness. This level of customer service and discrimination is utterly unacceptable, and I will definitely not be returning to this place ever.

Staff was really rude . We just wanted to have 2 dishes but the waiter told us that you have to order more otherwise you can leave the restaurant. Outside menu price was cheaper than the menu which they offer you inside . Their is nothing written on outside menu that the prices are for take away . Will never recommend anyone

Excellent food - incredibly tasty, large portions and extremely reasonably priced. Attentive staff - took quite a bit home in a well packed bag and enjoyed it all over again later! Definitely recommend.

Worst experience ever..We ordered few dishes. The chicken biryani and the panner was the worst. ..I think it's just named as Indian restaurant. But it doesn't taste like one. It's not at all cost effective as well..Frankly I won't recommend this to any Indian especially south Indians. I appreciate the waiters,they were good.

Not an Indian restaurant… this is a Bangladeshi restaurant who opens with Indian name. Staff is rude to Indian only care for white People. If any Indian come in , talks differently and rude to them and if any white people came .. even trying open their zip too. Rude

Excellent customer service and great tasting food!

If I could give 10 stars I would! All Indian restaurants could learn a thing from here! The food was outstanding was talked into trying a dish I’ve never heard of and wasn’t disappointed! We had a bit of a mix and every dish tasted amazing you could really tell that this isn’t from a jar or mass made!

Order was delayed and delayed and delayed and then cancelled. Waste of time for takeaway. Not happy with service at all. I get it Saturday night is busy - if you can’t cope remove yourselves from delivery option on busy days. Been a few times in person usually ok but I shall try elsewhere now I think

Amazing place! Came here during balloon fiesta with my family over the weekend. Ordered Chicken hunza and a sag aloo for my baby. Service is top notch and food is delicious. Will visit again when we're in the clifton area for sure

Had a great sit down meal in this restaurant last night. Very late after the balloon fiesta, but despite closing, they couldn't be more accommodating for our group of six, with service being excellent, the food wonderful and fair pricing. Would definitely recommend

We were staying in Bristol for weekend and decided to have a Indian on the Friday evening. We decided to try Joy Raj as it had a good write up etc. Upon walking downstairs we were asked where we wanted to sit. We selected a table away from a stag party by the looks of it, but after sitting down the start of the evening was getting stressful as along with us and other customers we could not even hear ourselves talk and have our own conversations. I asked the waiter to have a quick word with the table to ask them to just tone it down a little and have some respect of their other customers. This was ok for about 30min. We decided to stay and order the food which was bland, rushed and did not taste right for a chicken tikka main meal. I ordered a chapati with my meal and instead of it being presented on a side dish, it came to me in a plastic bag on a plate.. I think we were in there less than 1hr and quickly left after that.

On arrival we were warmly greeted and seated straight away. Our drinks order was taken and these arrived quickly, we were also able to order poppadoms and pickles whilst deciding on what to eat. If I was to have one slight issue, and this is a common problem with many restaurants, it would be that the soft drinks range should be just as extensive as the alcohol range etc. and of similar size ranges, not just tiny little bottles. As our group had not met up for some considerable time we did take quite a while before placing our main food order, but this was not a problem for the staff as they were available when we required them but they remained in the background and were not pushy or overbearing in trying to get us to place our order. The food menu was wide ranging and well explained, the staff were also more than willing to alter dishes to accommodate dietary requirements where possible and were knowledgable about the ingredients of each dish. The quality of the food was very good and it was evident that care and attention had been put into each and every dish that we had. The food was well presented and portion sizes were plentiful, certainly everyone was very well fed. After our main course was cleared we were provided with hot towels to freshen our hands, and with out bill we received chocolates for everyone. A good time was definitely had by everyone. I thank all the staff at the Joy Raj for a great evening out.

Got a takeaway from here last night through Uber eats. Served us raw chicken in the butter chicken. Didn't even realise until we had ate few bites of it. Spent the rest of the night feeling sick. Only refunded 2/3 of the order as well. Avoid at all costs

Was recommended to try by someone I know. I have never been a curry lover so was recommended tandoori chicken. It didn’t disappoint 😊 It was so tasty. Clean plates all round. Can’t wait to book a table with the rest of the family to enjoy another tasty meal.

Delicious food. I will definitely return. I had a chicken Passanda, pilau rice and a lovely garlic naan that tasted so fresh. This has got to be one of my favourite Indian dishes, but after looking at all the photos of the other dishes I might be more adventurous next time. Thanks Joy Raj. 😋

Access - 2/5 downstairs, difficult for disabled people/pushchairs to access. Price- 3/5 average price Taste - 2/5 - we ordered their grill special.and the standard lamb biryani. Im 99% sure the lamb biryani wasn't fresh, tasted stale. The grilled food was standard. Service - 3/5 average service, waiters were on their phone a lot. But were helpful and pleasant. Feel/atmosphere - 2/5 dull, the restaurant needs an update in decor. Old carpet and chairs, feel like everything is about 10years old. #halalfoodreviews

We chose this place as it has good reviews. The food is very bland and low quality. We ordered butter chicken, and for someone that knows Indian cuisine, I was disappointed with the flavour, colour and taste. It was also dripping oil. The paneer dishes were scarce, one of them had hardly any paneer in it. The service was poor and we were waiting 20 minutes to pay the bill until eventually we made our own way to the desk to pay. I would avoid this restaurant.

Pretty disappointed with the chicken hunza curry and the lamb tamarind sauce dish. Both pretty bland and flat tasting.

the food was DIVINE. i had my usual (chicken tikka masala plus extras) and it was the best i've ever had.

Absolutely brilliant. Service was exceptional, as was the quality of the food. Highly recommend arriving ravenous as portion sizes are enormous, with a good selection of popadom sauces.

Ordered one Goan lamb and a chicken tikka masala along with vegetable rice and a garlic coriander naan. The lamb and naan were the highlights of the meal. I felt the chicken was disappointing— it had zero grill marks and thus lacked the depth of a chicken tikka masala. Although the food was pretty reasonably priced and delivery was quick, I wouldn’t order again.

Not been to this place for a few years but returned with a few friends and family and had a great curry with very friendly service. Would highly recommend it.

Food was not good. The naan dough that was used is sweet and difficult to eat, the dishes were bland, and the chutneys and side salad were equally disappointing. I would not recommend for someone wanting nice indian food. I would've given one star for the food but the service was good, so an overall two star visit.

Very friendly staff, no long wait for food, we tried a dish new to us and staff were happy to explain what exactly it is, the process they use to make it. Never had a bad visit here, food has always tasted amazing, definitly the best.

Great atmosphere. The staff are super friendly and fully accommodating. The food was great. The food is great and the service is excellent. . Unfortunately they have let the decorating go and it looks shabby as are the toilets. I say this out of sorrow as it was the best indian restaurant for miles.

1. Just popped in for a takeaway as I was passing on my way home. 1st time I'd been in. Hope it's as good next time as I will definitely return. This curry really hit the spot. Staff were excellent too. 2. Returned for 2nds a few days later on a busy Friday evening. Was not disappointed, had to wait a little longer but the curry was again excellent. Long may it continue.
