took 2 hrs 10 minutes to delivery 1 kebab 1.2 mile at a charge of £3.50. Food was cold salad onion not chopped up. Very disappointed with service and no apology from them either. Safe to say I won't use this place again

The chips were cold, the mushy peas Luke warm and the ‘whale’ was more of an anemic dolphin. Have used before but this time we were extremely disappointed ☹️

Have eaten at jolly fryer for years now , never been let down food and service always excellent and theo greets everyone with a huge smile and usually by name for whale and chips it's the only game in town .

ordered food for delivery at 5.10pm and was stated up to 80 mins for delivery,however we did not receive food until around 9.20pm wich was too late for our 5 year old granddaughter so that meal got wasted. although the food is very good I feel they take too many orders on at the same time so your food gets delayed

We had our food delivered and it came at the said time and was piping hot. Fish and chips (also glutenfree) was excellent. We will definitely order again.

Since the fish and chip shop closes on Kingsway we have gone to the Jolly Frier and we have found the food to be cooked well and me and my dad are able to split a Whale and Chips between us. Sometimes It can be a little oily but generally it's very good. The manager also makes you feel welcomed and at home.

Amazing place. Superb staff. Can be a little slow with lots of people in but the food is awesome and well worth waiting for. I would go as far as to say that it is the best chippy in the area by far.

Amazing fish and chips! The staff are very friendly and polite. Wait times aren't too long, the only problem might be the on-street parking but we managed to get a space.

Best chip shop on the country, but desperately needs more delivery drivers. 1 hour 40 minutes is unacceptable for a a delivery.

Best chippy in the whole of the Nottinghamshire area... Just had donor meat and chips and it was bang on and the staff was amazing and even got there at the right time for some fresh chips being fried.... So i will be happily be making a return to the Jolly Fryer

Honestly the best chippy around, the food is amazing. Always piping hot and fresh. It’s so good we’ve been 3 weekends in a row so far! Theo is the best, such a sweetheart and makes sure the food and service is immaculate!

It's been many years since I have been here and have been bragging to my wife for years about how good it is, we had an opptunity to go and I had to have the whale and chips, this was hands down everything I remembered about the best fish and chips shop I've ever been to. To top off the great selection of food in this incredibly clean and inviting shop is the staff, the ladies were fun and happy, then there is Mr. Jolly, he is an experience maker, a refreshing take on service with a smile. You rarely enter a shop and come out feeling like you want it to have taken longer, a delay in whatever it is you are buying. Mr Jolly himself does this. You can feel his passion and his want to please. So very pleased we went and thank you to all the staff that was on. You made me reminisce and I will most certainly be back.

My wife went in to place an order 30 minutes before closing, the chef was irritated by this and my wife caught him pointing her out and swearing under his breath. If you don't want customers for the full duration you're meant to be open, close earlier. We won't be coming back.

After moving away from Kirkby for about 7 years, we had a Jolly special for dinner time at work. God I’ve missed this place, and it’s made me realise where I live, there are no good chippy’s. The so called mini fish is not mini. It’s a good sized fish, the batter is thin and crispy, and the chips are well cooked. The food was cooked fresh to order and arrived steaming hot. By far THE BEST CHIPPY. Thanks Mr Jolly, great as a always.

The whole experience is phenomenal from start to finish. Always greeted with a warm welcome. Portions are huge, food is always piping hot, tastes amazing and clearly made with love. The staff are lovely and will treat you like family. Big thank you to the Jolly Fryer team!

Not one to write a bad review normally but felt a little let down. Ordered with work £55 worth of bits for all the lads 3 burger meals all had chips missing which I know these things happen. Burger had a very poor dry bun asked for bacon had 1 shrivelled up piece of bacon not as big as a pack of bubbly gum and all was really cold. Then we had to go back for the chips. Just a little disappointing when spending so much on a chippy….

Food is very good and they offer gluten free which is fantastic…. However… we used the app to order which only gives you a delivery time after ordering, 80 minutes, fair enough you live and learn. We ended up having to Wait over 2 and a half hours for the food to arrive, despite calling them. Didn’t even get an apology, not good

What can I say....this is without doubt the best Fish & Chip shop in the County. Faultless fish, perfectly cooked every single time. Theo takes so much pride in the food that he serves. Totally worthy of five stars, don't waste your time or money going anywhere else. Outstanding fish, perfect chips, and great staff to serve. Brilliant.

Visited this little place after doing a Google search whilst working in the area. Busy little back street on the outskirts of Kirkby, and look like any normal little chippy until you get inside. I cannot recall ever being so impressed by such a simple everyday place as a chippy. ! The first thing that hits you, no matter where you look is the pristine cleanliness and shine of the place. Even behind the counter and around the kebab stand etc it is spotless, clean and hygienic. All of the surfaces are clean, grease and oil free and the floors spotless. Add to the the owner ( I assume) who is very very smartly dressed in clean crisp white shirt and big bright bow tie, with a friendly greeting, and the lady who served me was happy, chatty and a pleasure to be served by, The food itself was of top quality. Freshly cooked, tasty and not extortionate prices. Plus a good sized portion every time. I have visited only twice so far, but I will definitely be 're visiting again every time I am in that area. Such a breath of fresh air and happiness to see someone actually taking the effort to show us all how a place "Can" be if the effort is put in. This place definitely puts all of the many many chippy and kebab shops to shame with their scruffy and dirty aprons (if they even wear one) and unkenmp staff. 100 out of 100 for the Jolly Fryer.

5 stars isn’t enough for this chippy I would rate it 10/10 if the option was given. Theo makes every customer feel welcome and I honestly have no idea how he remembers every customers meal when they walk through the door. I barely remember what I want never mind Theo knowing exactly what I want. Footlong pigs in blankets in a yorkie what’s not to love

Absolutely made my day. Popped in for a fish and chips and after a few mins was greeted by Theo with this absolute leviathan. 'Best fish you've ever seen this' he said. And it was. And it tasted incredible. Succulent and crispy. AND the chips were crispy too! They didn't turn to mush even a little bit. Got back to my partner's and she confirmed that this is not a one off. It's whales everytime at the Jolly Fryer. Best chippy ever, no question. Treat yasel. Thanks Theo!

Owner fantastic would reconsider some of your staff most of them are fantastic one is very rude when serving an doesn’t offer as much sauce etc as the rest won’t be visiting again due to that staff member

Cannot recommend Mr Theo and the team any more highly. The food is always fresh and tastes amazing. The team are all very friendly, service is with a smile guaranteed and Mr Theo truly is the heart of the place. Kids portions are very generous, as are the full size meals, I've honestly enjoyed every meal I've had from the Jolly Fryer and there's never any complaints from the kids either. Halloumi naan is my fave go-to and it's just beautiful 👌 If you haven't tried them already, don't wait any longer, really is something special ❤️

There are three certaniities in life, Birth, Death and the Jolly Fryer I used to be a regular customer but moved away, I haven't visited the Jolly Fryer for about three years...until today! NOTHING has changed, spotlessly clean, exceptional customer service...it was meeting old friends again AND the best whale and chips in the area...the cod was exceptional with a humongous portion of delicious chips. I really miss my Friday night.visits If you haven't visited, you need to.

Absolutely fantastic we wont go anywhere else. The food is cooked to perfection and you always get such a lovely welcome. We travel a 14 mile round trip thats how good it is.

We attended the jolly friar today the 20th this evening. We travelled from Bilsthorpe for this chip shop. Seeing it all over Facebook it’s got to be done. We entered the shop by Theo the owner. Amazing personality towards his customer and an amazing attitude towards his successful business. His other staff members was lovely also. We had the 3 meat mixed naan and also a kebab with a small chips. I say small but my god they was a good size for a small. Very impressed! The kebabs was by FAR the best I’ve ever tasted. I’ve visited ALOT of Chippy establishments and the jolly friar is BY far the best I’ve ever tasted. The chip shop was clean, the food was incredible and the customer service was grade a star. The price was £21. People think that’s expensive for what we had. NEVER. You pay for Michelin star food and service you pay the price. Simple as that! I have reviewed way over 50 places this year and I will be returning 110%. Be proud of your amazing company. Thank you James. Onto there sister company next week. Fish bits.

Delicious fish and chips, both cooked perfectly, we traveled from Matlock after seeing reviews of the Jolly Fryer on Facebook and we certainly were not disappointed. The staff are lovely, helpful and friendly and the main man Jolly Fryer is just that!! Definitely will be back again soon

The one time me and my boyfriend and I went here for a decent meal, it was greasy and disgusting. Server's were using their hands to pick up food. Their hair wasn't even kept back, coughing and not covering their mouth. Disgusting and unhygienic.

Ordered fish chips peas and one fritter Waited while fish fried Then was served. We live local We only live around the corner from shop drove straight home took minutes Sadly when we unwrapped food the only item that was hot was the fish The chips were Luke warm the fritter was over cooked and dry and not very warm either Won’t go there again.
