John Lewis - The Place To Eat in Barnet

Very poor selection, slow service and hot food was cold ! 4 of us went for lunch, hungry after our shopping trip. 2 of us wanted chicken pie with mash but there was only 1 available ? (In the middle of lunch time, why is that ?) Ordered the one that was available, 1 opted for soup (wait for it no rolls available !) the other 2 decided on toasties only to be told there was only tuna left ! This is at 1pm what is going on ? So of the 4 of us only 2 ordered food. Both meals were cold and I don’t mean just warm I mean stone cold it was is bizarre. No selection or variety, poor, slow service and cold food . Baffled why anyone would return. And there we were wondering why a lovely cafe in John Lewis was empty at lunch time know we know. STEER CLEAR !! Place to eat Chelmsford

Had avocado salmon sour dough toast presentation was appalling wanted to throw it back at the idiot that put it together toast with avocado scraped over and hidden under the.salmon cold poached egg looked like an afterthought it's 4am I'm awake writing this review presentation counts btw I've done c&g 706 1/2 I know how to present food atrocious presentation

Service is SO slow! There is one lady who is really good; the guy was slow and wasn’t very helpful. They have a range of non- dairy milks and hot drinks were done well.

John Lewis used to do lovely cakes at their Place to Eat. Nowadays the cakes are mediocre or less. Today I declined to buy one.

I have very fond memories of The Place to Eat, made a conscious decision to come to Brent X and have the freshly cooked breakfast. What a huge disappointment. I am taken aback by how poor this set up is, saw the same in Peter Jones on Sloane Square to be honest. This unit used to be amazing, everything was freshly prepared and cooked to order. Not anymore, items are precooked and displayed in the heated cabinets. The tea was good to be fair but the rest was poor. Not recommended

My mother who is 85 and suffering with cancer wanted to go to Johnlewis to pick up bedding, which was great we were hungry, so we ate upstairs at the place to eat we like hot food there was a small selection. I asked the young lady I wasn’t sure if I fancied fish and chips, which looked great or steak pie and she said what do you normally eat and I said fish and chips but I was concerned as normally there’s no meat in the pie. She assured me there was I wish I’d listen to my gut pastry was very heavy when you cut it, it remained intact and literally half the meat was just sufficient for half the pastry which Wass dry, and the meat was quite fatty. Really really disappointed.

Annoying system of queuing, that means it entirely unclear whether you can go straight to the Hot Food bit or have to wait ages behind people getting sandwiches ! Ok food but v little choice , no decent salads or open sandwiches. Understaffed , obviously, but pleasant service , no complaints there. Just was all a bit ropey , for John Lewis... would have thought it could do better !

What a horrible experience, queued 20 minutes to order a coffee while the other half queued for the same length of time to order 2 toasties and chips. The toasties arrived but no chips, had to go and ask for them after 10 minutes. The staff were lovely and friendly but ordering and receiving your food is impossibly slow and inefficient.
