Always use JL cafes but this one was awful. More staff than customers, who did not look like they had a clue what they were doing. They stopped the queue in the middle leaving the end til empty with 3 staff. Coffee and tea both were Luke warm. Hot chocolate was like dish water normally comes with cream and marshmallows, cakes were fine. The tables weren’t cleared so we did our own, the teaspoons were dirty stuck together in the tray. Really disappointed, whoever the lady was in charge was clueless and it wasn’t even that busy.

I don't understand why service here is so slow. It used to be quicker but now it is dire. Other similar cafes manage to move customers through quickly. John Lewis will loose more and more customers if they don't recognise this as a problem and do something about it.

When will the management at this store sort this situation out , the counter service is a shambles . We arrived at 11.30 and it was 12.10 before we sat down with our food , will be going into the Trafford Centre next time .

Great place for brunch. All staff very friendly and helpful. Served today by Chrissie who was lovely. We like the fact that we can bring our dog who is also made very welcome.

Ridiculous system and service, I waited over 1/2 an hour to get a hot drink and piece of cake. I ended up walking out in the end. Stood in a queue that didn’t seem to move, people ordering hot food, whilst others just wanted a drink and cold food. The service was extremely slow. What a poor show. Never again, avoid unless you have hours to spare !

So many staff just standing around while the poor girl on the one til deals with everyone’s coffee and breakfast orders! Queued for 20 mins for a coffee and a piece of cake. Totally inefficient for everyone to queue in one line for everything- this cafe really needs to take some lessons from the JL cafe setup at Cheadle branch!

Long queue and no advance notice they were unable to serve hot food. There was no signage as you entered the store and the person controlling the queue failed to advise people. We ended up getting back in the car and driving to an Ember Inn in Worsley a few minutes away. Great service and good choice of food there!

No breakfast left waiting in line , only one till open . Not enough staff. Very poorly organised and managed. When will these places realise that hospitality is key and poor service leaves a bad taste. Get more staff and better managament.

Second visit to JL Trafford Centre. The queuing system leaves much to be desired. Food is adequate. I had a Sweet Potato and Red Pepper Fritatta which was tasty with a side salad which was plastered in dressing. My wife had a baguette and we both had scones (tasty) and tea. £25. Hmmm. I will say that the lady who was tasked with clearing the tables was lovely. (16th October around 1pm)

Terrible! Waited in the queue for about 20 mins. They decided to open another till which I had gone past so those behind me got served before I did. No hot food left other than soup. Cold food was egg sandwich or bagel. The glass was open on the customer side and previous person took with his fingers as staff took tongues away. Feels old and miserable inside. At a time when retail is at an all time low, you are doing nothing to encourage customers back. John Lewis - try harder to keep the customers you still have.

It is a quiet day at the Trafford Centre and decided to lunch with JLP as usual. The food selection was minimal - mostly cakes and the sandwiches had sold out at 12.25. I then had to wait 20 mins to be served before being embarrassed by a member of staff. She opened up another till so I moved toward her before she started yelling that she would come and select people from the queue to serve them. I was the next in line and had to insist that she serve me. Horrible experience and will never visit again.

I will never set foot in this cafe again. The member of staff I spoke to was nothing but rude with a terrible attitude. I’m not being accused of queue jumping when I’m not. At one time they used to have someone asking if if you were queuing for hot food or cold food and would quite you to a counter to order but this doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. I put my tray back and left as I won’t be spoken to like that especially as a regular and loyal customer to John Lewis. Unfortunately there’s not an option to give this review zero stars or I would have.

Service very slow we waited 25 minutes! John Lewis has gone down hill. Cheadle branch too. Go elsewhere. The coffee didn’t taste very nice, had to take it back.

Poor service... staff member at till, not serving at counter, when we approached to order drinks and pay for our sandwiches, she walks away. Then she returns and asks if we were asked to come to her counter, to we said "No"... she follows up with... "well the queue is there".

As loyal customers of John Lewis and Waitrose, we decided to choose The Place to Eat as there were very few options for food in the Trafford Centre without going for greasy fast food. We've been to the M&S Cafe before and as with their cafes, they are all enjoyable and the food is of high quality, similar to the food hall. The difference in quality between John Lewis Cafe and Waitrose is much bigger, the food was just poor. Greasy toastie with very thick slices of ham which weren't even warm and soggy bread. Scones had very little flavour and were stale albeit large. The range of drinks was poor, a large amount was out of stock and had no type of frappes or milkshakes, why didn't they serve these instead of prosecco? Who would want to have prosecco in a substandard cafe? The ordering experience was unorganised and very busy, took about 30 minutes alone just to order. Very expensive too for what you got, ended up not eating the food and grabbing a Starbucks on the way out. Just skip John Lewis and go to M&S next time, so much better.

Typical John Lewis Place to Eat. Fairly small serving area but nice up to date seating area. Stopped for a coffee which was OK but the person cleaning the table next to us sprayed disinfectant over us but at least my wife got her coffee replaced.

Food choice terrible. A lot of things unavailable. Wanted the children’s meal bag but no sandwiches available so asked what was available on the children’s menu- only fish and chips and cheese toasties. Chose the fish and chips. Pathetic portion size even for a child and fish was really greasy. Service was good but let down by the choice and quality of food.

Stood at a counter waiting to order drinks & ignored, then realised drinks were ordered at the payment till. The till operator stopped taking money to serve hot drinks when there seemed to be enough assistants who could serve drinks - confused !!!!

Would give the food 4 stars but the service 5 stars. When we finally got through checkin and security we headed to the Grain Loft for some breakfast. We were greeted by a member of the staff called Kostas who looked after us throughout our time in there, cannot thank him enough. I would recommend asking for him next time anyone is eating there.
