Fab little cafe. Really friendly staff, especially young man who offered food left over when closing. Coffee great too. Do go.

Lovely cafe run by really nice, enthusiastic team of young staff, serving wholesome food in both indoor & outdoor settings. We can hardly believe some of the negative comments left on this site. Most of the food is prepared fresh on the premises, there's a wide range of healthy choices on offer, portions are substantial and the personnel went out of their way to provide what we wanted. Everything is served up in easily recyclable, eco-friendly cartons. Whether you arrive by boat from Waterhead (as we did) or take the narrow road round from Ambleside or Hawkshead, Wray Castle is remote. So we were very pleasantly surprised to find such a nice cafe adjacent to the main attraction. We enjoyed the experience so much that, following a look around the fascinating Mount Everest exhibition and a walk along Windermere's western bank, we returned for a spot of afternoon tea (minus any carrot cake, as despite literally trayloads having been baked in the morning, they'd sadly run out by late-afternoon!)

Poor, very slow service from the three disinterested staff behind the counter. All food - cakes, drinks, soup, pasties etc - were overpriced. However, the leek and potato soup and scone were delicious.

Fantastic little independent cafe at the Low Wray National Trust site. Lots of great cakes and sweet treats on offer. Plenty of alternatives to the norm as well. Chocolate covered frozen bananas were a bit with our young children!

After standing in a queue for longer than I should, due to a very slow service, I then found out it was 100% Vegan only! I should have walked away, but we had an early start and was then going for a decent walk, so I wanted/needed some fuel in me, but I ended up with a lump of stodgy cake, which was difficult to navigate, tasteless and extortionately overpriced! Visiting NT sites across the Lake District for the week, as we are members, I then gave Joey’s cafes within those sites a wide berth and we ate elsewhere! Choice should always be offered, I don’t want to be converted to a Vegan, everyone to their own, but a wider choice should always be available, which includes meat!

Just went to Joey’s inaugural evening service at Claife, well what an experience, the food was out of this world (vegan is not usually my bag!), the service exceptional. All in a friendly laid back environment, perfect location for an after dinner walk, what more could you ask for in the heart of the Lake District. Cannot wait to go back.

Thought we would have tea and coffee plus cake here mid morning before visiting the castle. First point of annoyance was the staff talking to each other rather than paying attention to their customers. I bought 1 tea. 1 coffee and two lemon tarts. Second point of annoyance was the paper bags that I was served the lemon tarts in. Cardboard cups I find irritating enough but paper bags ? No tray to take cups and bags outside to partner with but luckily I had a jacket with pockets in it. Final point was the inedibility of everything ! The 'builders' tea' was foul. Could have been coloured water. The Americano was weak and tasteless. The lemon tarts had a taste but unfortunately it was of of petrol or diesel - we could not agree on which. It was certainly not lemon and their texture was thick and greasy. We threw most of the 'food' away. Vegan food can be excellent. I have a grandson allergic to both dairy and egg and make a very tasty lemon tart for him. Perhaps I should offer Joey's the recipe. Will not visit again and do not recommend it to anyone else.

Can’t fault the service and the usual Costa coffee standards. But seriously marked down for atmosphere - a noisy aircon unit or fan filled the space with white noise, absolutely impossible to hold a conversation.

Used to be a little bit different, a little bit higher quality in ingredients and in beer offerings. Now it’s just the same downgrade Peroni to Nastro etc. Save a few pence but turns the product into the same as everywhere else instead of that small cut above. Such a shame.

Best thing about our lunch was that the cafe was dog friendly. The coffee was OK but only lukewarm. The soup and toasties were a massive disappointment. Only time we've ever been served soup we couldn't eat. It was meant to be tomato soup but it was so thick that it looked and tasted more like a pasta sauce. Taste wasn't impressive and it was loaded with soggy croutons. The toasted sandwich had unmelted cheese. It was floppy, spongy and almost soggy. Horrible. If you can't get soup and a sandwich correct you shouldn't be working in a kitchen

I generally like Costa, but it's a bit disappointing that you're overcharging for oat milk. Not everyone can drink dairy, and over 40p for a drop of oat milk is ridiculous. I should get a rebate for not having dairy. Staff were nice but messy table and being sniffed by a mangy dog made it not what it used to be in Costa lotta

asked for some napkins for a spillage in the car before getting drinks for our friends birthday, we were bluntly sent out with the napkins with the door slammed behind us. telling us they will “see us another day”. they will not be seeing us another day. horrible bar staff member
