Joe's Fish and Chips in Watford

The cook made us a wonderful fish with his own recipe. Such a lovely service and the cook made us feel very welcomed .

I used this restaurant once when it was called joes fried chicken and smashed burgers restaurant and here is the review that I posted but more importantly what happened next. Original Post:- First time user was expecting a good experience due to ratings. However, ribs were cold, tough and chewy, chicken tasted off and the coleslaw looked grey and there was very little of it considering they charge £2 for it. Tried contacting the shop the same night as wanted to return the food as inedible no answer tried again all day the following day still no answer. Will never be using again waste of money and cannot get to speak to anyone Following that review around a week later the owner turned up on my doorstep out of the blue There were two very large men the largest was the one who came to my door. He said that they were a family run business and accused me of trying to damage their business but was in a brand new Range Rover. The only reason he posted a response to me was because I reported him to Uber eats and the police. His manner on attending my home was threatening and intimidating. Your personal information should not be used by an owner to track you down. As for making a refund which he states as his reason for coming to my home he could have done that by refunding back to my card so why didn’t he? His personal home visit had nothing to do with great customer service. He even says himself that I became emotional and upset who wouldn’t when a large man you don’t even know is on your doorstep having a go at you because you didn’t enjoy the food he supplied. Even after I closed the front door he did not leave immediately and proceeded to keep going through the letterbox. I asked him to leave more than once and yet he persisted. The only reason I didn’t post this at the time is because I was worried about the repercussions as he already proved he knew where I lived and had kept that information. I now feel safe to post as I live at least 3 hours away and he doesn’t have my new address. As regards to tell me to go elsewhere for food I think that was a decision I had already made for myself. Food was well below par, as for the service his own personal brand is I am sure not one that anyone would welcome. When he added his response he did so in the hope of covering himself because he knew following my reporting of him that he had overstepped the mark. A bully who feels it is appropriate to turn up mob handed on customers doorsteps unannounced. Interesting to note that their other posts which were all great were unverified and since the business seems to have changed its name. If you want to retain customers then I suggest you offer what’s promised good food at a fair price. Don’t hunt people down, not professional certainly not good practice. To be fair I have never been back so do not know what the food is like now. However my biggest concern was over the owners extreme behaviour.

we have now been to Joe's three times in the past couple of months, thoroughly impressed. A friendly and charismatic owner who always has time for a chat while your food is being prepared. Generous portions & the haddock is especially tasty. Highly recommended

Surprised by some of the reviews. I was really impressed. They even made onion rings when I asked even though they were not on the menu. It was fresh onion and probably the best onion rings I’ve ever had. I will be going back.

Based on reviews thought it was worth a punt but it’s not great to be fair and was expecting more... Kebab meat is frozen and not fresh off the spit which was disappointing And think the google reviews are more fake then genuine

Food is tasteless and oily, the chips are way too salty. Don't recommend it. We had to throw it away because we couldn't eat it.

Joe’ fish and chips are located in queens Road a short walk from intu Watford. I had a large cod and chips which tasted fantastic and was a really good size portion. It was all prepared fresh and cooked in groundnut oil that made the food tasty...something I hadn’t had before but will certainly go back to have again!! I would recommend trying the homemade tartar sauce. 👍

What a place!!! Best Fish and chips I have ever eaten, been reading some reviews on here, and they are EXTREMELY unjust I honestly cant see what they are saying!! Joe's is what a traditional chippy is all about the guy is going above and beyond for his customers!! Keep up the good work Joe everyone thinks there a critic these days, Homemade Tartare sauce is a Gamechanger Love.this place

This has newly opened and I would like to say 10 out of 10. Everything cooked fresh so a bit of a wait, fish was lovely and fresh and the burgers omg!!! Just try them

Had such high expectations but was so disappointed. The fish portions were dear but so tiny ... palm size. The batter was flat and had a bitter taste. The chips were soggy and very greasy

Looked like oil was dirty, or they’d been there for ages. They were inedible :( these photos were taken less than an hour after I got them. Won’t go back

Poor customer service, you don’t always get what you’ve ordered and they don’t seem to care. I won’t be ordering again.

Good food, friendly staff, chips are nice had sausage in batter and without both nice and tasty would def go in again

This place has only been open a couple of months but I think the proprietor is from a fish and chip family so he knows what he's doing. The batter is light, the chips were well cooked and the tartar sauce was creamy and not too caper-y. It's my new go to chippy.
