Ji The Chicken Shop in Southampton

The best chicken I have ever had and the plum chips were fantastic. Portion sizes were beyond generous and myself and my husband couldn't stop talking about how lovely it was. What a brilliant hidden gem of a place we found. Honestly gutted we don't live closer and can only pop in when we come up to Southampton. I want to both tell everyone how good this place is and also keep it a secret so noone finds out about it so they don't sell out when I next come.

I like the food here, but waitress provided bad service. 😔

Food is tasty but the deep fried squid can be improved due to watery inside. It will be great to have music or nice decorations around.

Food was good, but attitude is terrible. I only ask her to amend menu and she roll her eyes at me.

When I took it home, I realized that there was one less fries for me, but I paid for it.

They have sent me a missing order. It was so inconvenient on my part.

Nice chicken but no cutlery, no sauces, very bad atmosphere, everything packed in bags. I don't know why there are tables - the owners obviously don't want anyone to eat inside?!

Ji Chicken , should be called dry chicken ..... no sauces with anything so just feels like you are chewing what i can only describe as CONCRETE . The chips taste like what i can only imagine if Willy Wonka spaffed on them . 100% Sugar . My mate had a side portion of the squids witch gave him the squits. Chicken with out dip or sauces . Over priced - you are better off going across the road to the mexican place . Better value for money and tastier food . Dont normally like doing reviews but this place needs to up their game .

It's baaaaad. True, chicken is really crispy and that's where it ends. No flavour. Dry. Tables are dirty. No tray No utensils No napkins No sauces No bin? No atmosphere. You literally eat tasteless chicken from paper bag. I spent 40 quid between 3 people. We all ordered different items and no-one was pleased with their order. Avoid. I hate to say it but go for kfc at least you know what to expect...

Our favourite halal place to eat in Southampton. The food is always 10/10 and never lets us down. Great portions and taste plus a great selection of seasonings. We have never had a bad experience and although It’s expensive considering it’s simplicity (chicken and chips) it is so worth considering there aren’t many options in Southampton for Muslims.

Interesting enough Taiwanese chicken joint. You might love this place, so give it a try - but it's not for me. Everything on the menu is deep fried apart from chips. They also only have flavour powder but no sauce, which is just odd I think. £12 for a set meal including a bubble tea isn't too bad but choose carefully with the meat - some of the chicken is OK but today I ordered boneless chicken thigh and it was inedible - greasy, not seasoned well and horrible gluey fat still stuck to the meat - it was just under-prepared. I don't really care for the batter on the chicken either. The fries were just OK - large portion and hot but for some reason covered with a sweet "plum" flavour which ruined them (this is the only option on the set menu...why??) On a positive note we did like the squid and the popcorn chicken was OK.

Anything fried is good but this place was somewhat disappointing. Not much flavors with the wings and thigh. Fries was just ok. There is no trash bin inside the restaurant.

The best Taiwanese chicken steak in Southampton! My favorite is the fried chicken steak and fried squid. It’s perfect with cheese powder and plum powder.

It's ok I guess. Chicken strips, fries, octopus. Could have gone a bit heavier with the seasoning. This place really needs to provide and ideally make their own dipping sauces, only thing that was missing. But yes overall it was ok, have had better chicken strips in the past though, octopus was nothing special, fries were ok (without plum seasoning).

I was disappointed as I LOVE fried chicken and heard good things about their London sibling. I’ll start with the great, the chicken skin was definitely 5 star. As good as it sounds, fried chicken skin with your choice of Asian seasoning. I found the chicken breast disappointing, not bad but very light on the chicken. Also didn’t care for the lotus root chips (and I like lotus root), very hard and the deep frying just added a layer of breading. Will go back for the chicken skin but with more reasonable expectations.

One thing for sure,,,the chicken we ate is not fresh at all!

Could never complain about this place. Visited here over 4 times and never disappointed. Garlic crispy chicken thighs, chilli lotus root chips and lemon crispy baby octopus. I love it all. Connected to happy lemon bubble tea. Amazing food, audibly crispy and kind welcoming staff :)

I believe this place hasn’t been open for very long, might excuse the 25 minute wait for the food, so not so fast food. Food pleasant enough but at £12 for chicken and chips, basically, not worth the money.

Good food at reasonable prices. Must try the Crispy prawns delicious. Fresh and flavoursome.

Recently had been to Southampton to pick up my sister and we were a bit hungry so we tried their Taiwanese Style Crispy Chicken and should say it was the best choice. It's crispy and delecious, staff are very helpful in recommending me.

Taiwanese fried chicken in Southampton? Yes please! Very happy for this addition to the city's food scene. I liked how hot and fresh my order was, the octopus was tender and juicy, the popcorn chicken was crunchy and satisfying, and I loved my lotus root chips. There's a massive selection of bubble tea and I was happy with my selection. My one quibble is that they could go heavier on the seasoning. There is a bit of a wait for food but things seemed to be cooked to order so that's fine with me. Ji is no Hot Star (nothing can beat Hot Star IMHO) but it's still great IYKYK

Nice place to have lunch and having variety of snacks for kids.

It was so good and I totaly forgot about taking a photo of the chicken that I ordered. The chicken is so juicy. Definitely worth a try. Highly recommended..

Had a great experience in the one located in London, so when I saw Ji here, I got to have their crispy squid and crispy octopus again, they are truly delicious!!

We stopped here for lunch on the way to Isle of Wight. The food was amazing quality and very delicious. It filled us up so much we did not have to eat any dinner later. That's what I call quality food. Will definitely visit again if we're back in the area. Highly recommended

Hands down one of the best fried chicken I've ever tried, crispy but juicy and soft at the same time. Good variety and the portion sizes are more than generous. Most importantly it's a very clean and well presented establishment, which seems to be a rarity now with chicken shops. Definitely recommend 👌🏾

Always been a fan of trying new food, and apon trying the Volcanic chicken, I was a fan. I've always loved hot food and this definitely hit the spot, and it wasn't too badly priced for the quality of it. I will be back to try some more stuff.

Never a disappointment. Have tried a number of menu items and they're consistently great; food cooked to order so it's always super fresh, hot and crispy.

I have been here twice in a week, once with my sister who’d recommended it to me and then I brought my family. Everything ordered was piping hot and well cooked, have sampled a lot of items on the menu between all family members. Portions are large. Very tasty and crispy batter on the popcorn chicken, chicken leg, lotus root and chicken skin. Volcanic chicken is a family fave. Will definitely be coming back again but not in the same week next time :’)

I have tried the chicken here 3 times but this time is really disappointing. When I came in, I was the only one customer but still needed to wait nearly 30 mins to receive my order. After first bite, I realized the chicken is still raw and asked them to do it again. Another 20 mins wait and what I received is the re-fried meat and of course, it is not as good as it should be. Also, the plum fries are oily and not crunchy. I was a big fan of plum fries here when I tried it previously. Really disappointed for today visit.
