Jewel in the Crown in East Ayrshire

Will be going tonight to try ti's place out . I have read mixed reviews on the food here . Hope it lives up to the good ones. I Used to use the Torranyard and had one of the worst meals ever on xmas night so let's hope the curry here can be top Notch ...We'll went last night and this place was fantastic 👌 The food was amazing we had the table buffet . Two curries on the main course We were both stuffed and the manager came over and put the rest in takeaway containers so gulag jamun for lunch 😀 PLEASE TRY THIS PLACE WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK

We just had the chicken tikka Kerahi and the chicken tikka pasanda. Both were brilliant, chicken was perfect and the garlic naan was 10/10. Beat Indian dinner I’ve had in years.

Service was fine. No problems at all but the food was dreadful. We chose to have the buffet. Bad mistake. The chicken pakora was over cooked, dried out and basically inedible. There was no poppadoms and spiced onions on offer. The chicken in the chicken tikka hadn't been chargrilled. There wasnt any lamb or even vegetarian dishes on offer. Only 6 chicken main dishes. All of which just looked like a big bag of cooked chicken had been tipped into a bain marie of mediocre shop bought sauce. I don't think I've tasted a worst chicken korma in my life. It was watery and tasteless. It certainly wasn't creamy or coconutty. The naan bread was nice though, so as we were hungry we mostly ate that and picked out some bland chicken from the sauces. So disappointing as this used to be an amazing place for food. I was going to give verbal feedback on our visit but we were given a review card with the bill so I filled that in. We were happy to pay the bill and leave a tip as it was incredibly cheap, we did eat some chicken and loads of naan and the service was alright. But we won't be back and I'll certainly not be recommending The Jewell to any friends or family.

My partner and I are here tonight (03/01/24) food was excellent, however the service absolutely amazing. I only wish I had gotten the girls name that looked after us to name her personally as she was fantastic. Such a happy, welcoming girl who had so much knowledge and many recommendations of dishes for us to try. She really is an asset to the restaurant.

Went tonight advertising all you can eat buffet.Had to ask for starters to be filled.Main courses we sat for 20 mins waiting on them being filled up there was no chicken in any of them.Eventually we just got up asked for bill and left.We weren’t even asked if everything was ok.We are now home making something to eat.Certainly won’t be back it was shocking.

Absolutely lovely food and service. The food is good quality and a big step up from any other Indians in the area. Great veg and lovely chicken pakora as well as fresh naans and chapattis. And the lamb madras’s was superb. Melt in the mouth and great sauce. Highly recommended.

Took our children for a meal for a special occasion. Had the buffet. We were told that if anything runs out dont be shy & just let the server know. There was no popadoms or chicken korma. Naan, pakora, onion bhaji, chicken chaat, rice were all dried out. Tried to ask server on many occasions, unfortunately they she was busy all the time talking to a group of men. The group of men were also extremely loud & one made my daughter uncomfortable when she went to the buffet. Again there wasnt anyone to speak to as we couldnt hear ourselves & couldnt get hold of the only server we saw.

Ein kleines Indisches Restaurant. Mit einer herzlichen Besitzerin. Sie hat uns sehr gut beraten, wir waren das erste mal Indisch essen. Sie hatte uns vorher sogar einiges zum probieren an den Tisch gebracht. Sehr zu empfehlen. Es war sehr viel Betrieb, Vorallem außer Haus betrieb. Viele liebe Grüße aus Deutschland

Placed an order for collection, it was ready on arrival. Ordered chicken tikka korma, rice, nan bread, chicken pakora and chips. The korma was watery and tasted off, the pakora was dry, and chewy. The nan bread was dry, flavourless, and worse than some store bought ones I've had. Overall its got to be one of the worst Indians I've had in kilmarnock, very disappointed and not like ones I've had in the past from here.

Great food with lively atmosphere

Went on a Thursday night, the whole time it was such a lovely calm enviroment with music to match. Our frount if house worker was so amazing she alone would make us want to return back. Now the food, WAS BEYOND AMAZING. The meat was so tender and flavorful with the sause of the currys we orderd was just hitting the right spot. The starter we had a share plater for 2 and it was perfect for 2 set up yhe main perfectly. I honestly wish i was better with my words because this place is honestly the top tear of Indian food.

Have been to The Jewel many times before. Went again recently for birthday dinner. Great food and service 👍

Food was delicious and fresh. Very good sized portions. Staff were lovely and attentive. Only issue was cash only. Sign on the door. Will definitely be back and will try their delivery next.

Best Indian in Kilmarnock (by a distance). Food is good although a wee bit expensive with Glasgow prices for some items. Nobody else was in (on a Saturday nonetheless) so the atmosphere was a bit weird.

5 stars does not cover how good the food is in here. Honestly one of the tastiest Indian meals I’ve had!!!

Hadn’t been in here for many years as I don’t live locally these days. Food and service still first rate; very fresh and tasty. Good value too. Most enjoyable. Recommend.

Had a lovely meal at the Jewel tonight. The service was fantastic and front of house are so helpful and welcoming. Food was excellent as usual.

We went as a family this evening. The waitress was very pleasant and ensured all was well with our meal. The meal itself was enjoyed by all of us.

Loved it! Very pleasant staff who were very accommodating for 2 of the party who had severe food allergies.Will return.

Had the buffet and food was great for the price. Will hopefully try soon for a takeaway as that seemed very busy with collections when we were in.

Been a while since we visited here and it was Fantastic £10 buffet great price and the quality of the food was faultless with a huge selection of starters and mains on offer!! I would highly recommended

Recently had takeaway comprising of chicken pakora & chicken curry, whereby the chicken was tough & not fresh & tender like other Indian restaurants in Ayrshire. IMO, they must be using reheated &/or frozen chicken, as it was extremely chewy to eat.Will never use again which is a shame, as the previous family owners ran an amazing quality restaurant & takeaway service.

instead of 45min delivery time it was double that. also driver demanded 50p more than the quoted price that in my opinion was expensive for two meals a rice a nan and a side dish £33.20

Ordered delivery from, it arrived 30min later than quoted. Meals were okay, not bad, not great but my husbands chicken was undercooked with raw pink bits. Wouldn't recommend.

Ordered a takeaway and having a free pakora from missing it out last time we were not given any sauce. It was cold and had a rice missing. Phoned and was told we only ordered one rice but chicken tikka came with rice unless that has changed. Don’t think we will order again.

Used to love this restaurant tend to avoid placing negative reviews but there appears to be zero consideration for their customers these days. Ordered food today at 1815, with the Just Eat app estimating 45-60 mins for delivery. That changed on order, as usual, to 60-80 mins. They updated the Just Eat app at 1935 indicating it was out for delivery. We called to check at 1955 and apparently it was only just coming out the kitchen then. It's now 2045, 2.5 hours after the order, it's and still not delivered. Their phone is off the hook and we've started eating snacks.

Friendly staff and food arrived quickly. Vegetarian sharing platter has more than ample for 2/3 to share. Good value.

Spur of the moment Friday night dinner with my wife. Restaurant relatively busy but felt spacious enough not to worry about covid. Servers v attentive and friendly. Ordered paneer Tikka and chickpea dosa to start... Superb. Decent sized portions and both lovely. Mains I had the chicken tikka tandoor and wide had the punjabi chilli. My main was so large in portion I asked to take the remainder home for lunch which was obliged. Punjabi was suitably hot. No complaints. Only issue is only Tennents on tap.... Kingfisher bottles a poor substitute for a pint. £50 Inc drinks and tip. Definitely be back. Music playlist also good :)

I've used The Jewel for years and always really enjoyed their food both in the restaurant and as takeaway. Recently I ordered a takeaway via JustEat, between Christmas and New Year and it was delivered very late. As you can imagine I was very miffed. I contacted the restaurant and the owner was professional, courteous and very pleasant. They explained all the problems that they had faced that night (I think we can all understand the various mitigating factors, these days) and promptly offered a set meal for two by way of compensation. I ordered the set meal a week later and it was great. I will continue to use the Jewel as the best food in Kilmarnock. I will, however, think twice about ever using JustEat, again. I'll go directly through the restaurant whenever possible.

We've had sit-in and carry-out meals from the Jewel for a few years, and it's been mostly very good. Tonight's wasn't. It was way over time for delivery, and the food was sub standard. The pakora was luke warm, soggy and greasy, the nan was doughy and unbaked. The masaleda was simply chicken in a tomato sauce, like tomato ketchup. The jalfrezi was okay as was the rice. This meal was a step down from the usual high standard. We will not return for a while.

Poor service standards. Menu not great. Currently the best Indian restaurant in Kilmarnock town centre.

Food wasn’t as good as it was. The tandoori chicken didn’t have the correct price on the menu for starters, so I was overcharged. so if not for double checking I would have been totally unaware. Tandoori chicken was just a breast cut length ways , or maybe 2 breasts of chicken. Not on the bone. And not sizzling. Not that great IMO. And no discretionary popadums and pickle as is a norm elsewhere. Disappointed. Very.

The food was good, but unfortunately the young staff had not been trained properly and did not know the menu or drinks list very well at all.

Passing through Kilmarnock, we looked for an Indian restaurant and found The Jewel in the Crown. Friendly welcome from the owner, good menu. Our choices (a paneer dish and prawn achari) were tasty. Portion-control tip: less sauce! Minor things, the naan wasn’t the proper fresh...

The food here is almost always great. Just a few exceptions. Over the last two years we have gone here. Sadly it has really deteriorated. Not the food, but the service. For takeaways, currently every other one has a problem. Either cold, wrong time given,...

Lol got meal tonight no pakora no second rice but lady who owns restaurant is the most ignorant ladie out I got meal one night and was wrong meal she sent me chaos I i dnt like that ordered South Indian chilli chicken so abrupt...

Went for a takeaway was told 15 minutes. 55 minutes later we got our order. Only ordered 1 curry and sweet nan. 55 minutes for 1 curry absolutely shocking service and curry was cold. Never going back again.

Four of us had a pre-theatre on Saturday, large menu, competitively priced. The good: starters were fine, mains were a mixed bag some decent others not so The bad: service was provided by some c. 16 year old girls, who very friendly, however, long waits...

It’s been a while but it was great to be back for a sit in. Great value con the set menu and top quality food especially the fish pakora. Staff were top notch as always!

Why on earth do you give out times to come and collect an order and then have customers waiting for over an hour outside. Absolutely rubbish service and the food wasn’t that great Won’t be back

I waited two and a half hours. Cancelled the order. Then they lied to just eat so I didn't get my refund. Do not order from here.

If you are willing to wait 3 hours on an order that was supposed to be delivered in an hour.....order away. Every call was full of excuses. On the positive, the food is usually good 👍

Just had an order for 3, cost over £40 for 1 starter and 3 mains! I don’t normally write reviews however this was probably the worst Indian I’ve ever had! Highly priced for overdone meat and dry pakora! Absolutely dreadful!

Well patronised local Indian eatery, loads of takeaway orders continually being collected. Good food and friendly service from local lasses. Never see owners or chef, probably too busy cooking!

Went on a Tuesday evening, I guess we just assumed they'd offer the Eat Out to Help Out discount. The fact that the there was hardly anyone in the place should've given us a clue. The fresh nan was delicious.

I can’t speak highly enough for the Jewel in the Crown. Fantastic food and top notch staff made our family’s visit for a curry great. The set menu is highly recommended. Again I commend the two girls who served us when it was a full house. Professional and we felt safe in these difficult times

Tonight my friends and I decided to get a carru out which we've been looking forward to for the last 3 months we got two portions of chicken tikka and two sauces we enjoyed the sources we got a couple of channa pouri also which were fine but the chicken was the most awful pieces of chicken I've ever experienced from this restaurant four chicken breasts which were hard they were burnt they were dry we could hardly cut through them, in other words they were inedible the order cost £35 we got no free poppadoms and spiced onions, which you used to get, basically very very disappointed, as this has always been our go-to Indian restaurant it will be awhile before we go back unfortunately, very poor. 😢👚

My and my GF ordered the Set meal for two last night which you get two curry’s 1 Naan, 1 Rice of your choice and a pakora. Excellent value for your money, big portions and the food was great. Easily the best chicken pakora in town.

Used to be our favourite but has really went down hill. Ordered take-away on Friday and was told be 30 mins and arrived 1hr 20mins later stone cold. Never expect to have to microwave our meal but had no option it just wasn't edible. Never even got poppadoms with it which is usually standard with an Indian meal! We ate in the restaurant the other week too and this was so different, slow service, have started charging for the poppadom platter when you used to get this before your starters which a lot of Indians do. Don't mind paying for them, even if they just added the cost to the prices of the main etc it's just a nice touch when you go for an Indian meal. They also got our bill wrong as well which isn't like them, the service was just night and day from what it used to be. I'll probably get our take-aways from bombay grill in future, it's so much further away from us but is always hot when it arrives!

This restaurant is first class. My husband and I have just returned from having another amazing meal and can't rate it highly enough. The food is lovely and fresh with generous portions and is the best curry we have had. Inside is lovely and cosy and beautifully decorated so you can relax and enjoy your night. I can't recommend it enough. We think it is the best place to eat in Kilmarnock. Give it a try!

There are more cost effective options in and around Kilmarnock but the range of options here is impressive. The food itself is consistently average and far too expensive.

Visited last night for my husband's birthday meal. Firstly service was spot on, both gents working were very attentive without being intrusive. The food was right up there with the best restaurants, it really was so tasty. Decor seems to be all done now, again really lovely, spacious and fresh. Nice touch with the drumsticks lol beats after eights. Thanks for a lovely night and see you on valentines night.

Visited The Jewel in the Crown at the weekend with my family, we had an amazing meal. The pakora was the best pakora I’ve ever tasted, was cooked to perfection. I had the chicken korma for main and was amazing, plenty of meat and it was roasting hot and was made fresh to order. The service was outstanding the girls were so helpful and went above and beyond to make sure our visit was perfect. The owner Katrina is so kind and a brilliant host. Will definitely be back and will be recommending the restaurant to all my friends and family. Thanks again.

The jewel in the crown was recommended to us and we were so glad we went. It has a lovely friendly atmosphere and the staff make you feel welcome from the minute you walk in the door, especially the owner Katrina. The food is delicious and its definitely made to order. I cant recommend this restaurant enough, this was our first visit but it wont be our last.

First visit. The food was very good. Mixed starter was excellent. Lovely pakoras. Usual selection of curries, we all ordered different ones and shared, all very well made and tasty. Service pleasant and friendly but could have been a little more attentive. Would definitely return.

I went to Jewel in the Crown with friends recently. So disappointed as I've been there in the past and it was very good. First of all I booked the table for 6 people and they gave us a table for 4 people! I always speak loudly and clearly when booking a table as I am aware that staff can struggle to hear if the restaurant is busy. The staff did transfer us quickly to another table. I had mushroom pakora which was quite tough. It was a large portion and there was a decent salad with it. I then had vegetable passanda. The sauce was delicious but the vegetables were very hard, I didn't eat them. The Peshawari naan was Ok ish. The rice was quite undercooked. The service was fairly slow but it was very busy. Some members of staff were pleasant but certainly not all were. We were not asked how the meal was and I had the impression that the staff weren't very interested. I recommended this visit to my friends as I had previously had a good meal there. I was very disappointed and feel that I couldn't recommend it

We have never used this takeaway before but had been recommended this, ordered takeaway to collect, this meal was delicious - ordered the Chicken Chasni and Peshwari Naan and Vegetable Pakora, Very impressed with portion size and quality and taste.

The food here is very good we eat here regularly either sitting in or a carry out. I would recommend this restaurant highly.
